CAMPI launched the 5th Philippine International Motor Show

The Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines (CAMPI), the country’s largest auto industry organization, celebrates industry progress, gathered motoring industry players and members of the media for the launch of the 5th Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS) held at July 10, 2014  the Fairmont Hotel Makati City.

In celebration of the Philippine automotive industry’s exponential growth, the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines (CAMPI), the country’s largest auto industry organization, gathered motoring industry players and members of the media for the launch of the 5th Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS) happening on September 18-21 at the World Trade Center in Pasay City.

On its 5th year, CAMPI takes PIMS into a whole new level as it features the largest convention of motoring manufacturers and distributors in the country. Aside from a high caliber motor show, the event will also serve as the launch pad for majority of the participating brands to introduce their latest vehicles and cutting-edge technologies including concept engines and hybrid cars.

An iconic car display called “Progress in Motion: The Evolution of Philippine Automotive Industry” which will showcase 12 iconic cars that represent six decades of automotive trends in the country.

“There is no better occasion to celebrate the automotive industry achievements than at the 5th Philippine International Motor Show,” said Atty. Rommel Gutierrez, CAMPI President. “PIMS is set to give the industry another boost as we continue to strengthen our footprint in the ASEAN region,” he added.

With the theme “Progress in Motion”, the country’s most authoritative car show serves as a platform to champion milestones and successes achieved through collaborative efforts from the private sector and the government. The automotive industry reported double-digit growth for three consecutive years. From 11% in 2012, industry sales climbed to 16% in 2013. In June 2014, the industry achieved the highest monthly sales of more than 19,000 units from over 14,000 units sold in the same month last year. For the first six months of 2014, CAMPI members already sold more than 100,000 units representing a staggering 25% year on year growth.
This progress transcends the automotive industry and has greatly influenced the economy as a whole, as it accounted for 12% of the industrial sector output and 4% of the total GDP, according to data from the National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB). Philippine automotive industry has generated more than P120 billion in investments which translated to almost 500,000 jobs for Filipino workers. It contributed to the national budget in terms of annual payment of duties and taxes of over P30 billion and recorded total exports of about US$3.4 billion in 2013. These major contributions are expected to increase this year with a higher forecast of 20% growth amounting to projected sales of over 250,000 units, up 9% over the original 230,000 units announced in January.

“We at CAMPI put great importance on furthering the country’s economy with the goal of making Philippines a prime automotive production hub in the ASEAN region. In fact, we are working hand in hand with the ASEAN Automotive Federation (AAF) to ensure that we are always at par with the standards of the region,” said Gov. Jose Ch. Alvarez, CAMPI Chairman.

“With the support of the government and private sectors, I am confident that the Philippine automotive industry will continue to progress,” he added.

CAMPI also gives emphasis to its “Vision 2020”, a goal to reach the 500,000 mark in the next six years prodded by the growing domestic demand for automobiles, the price variance in the Philippines compared to other ASEAN markets as well as the industry’s capacity for exports. The strong domestic market potential is marked by the Philippines’ current population of 100 million with a vehicle ownership ratio of only 35 per 1,000 population, much lower than those of its ASEAN neighbors. The country already reached a GDP per capita of US$2,790 in 2013, higher than the motorization threshold income of US$2,500 which makes the potential growth even more attainable. This vision can only be achieved with the right policy direction and government intervention through the issuance of the much-awaited automotive industry roadmap.

CAMPI invites everyone to support the automotive industry by taking part at the 5th Philippine International Motor Show and witness key industry players come together to help shape and strengthen our nation.

The 16 top automotive brands participating this year include: BAIC, BMW, Daewoo, Honda, Isuzu, JMC, Kia, Lexus, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Peugeot, Suzuki, Toyota, and Volkswagen.

LINE’s new Disney TsumTsum puzzle

Here's for an avid community of mobile gaming enthusiasts, LINE, is bringing popular Disney characters to Android and iPhone users in the Philippines with the launch of LINE’s new Disney TsumTsum puzzle.

LINE Corp., owner and operator of the free call and mobile messaging app launches new Disney-themed gaming app.

The popular TsumTsum puzzle, which has been released in 41 regions worldwide, has been developed under the license of Walt Disney Japan that features Disney characters from Mickey Mouse to Winnie the Pooh to spice up your gaming experience.

According to Tech in Asia, about 78 percent of the country’s mobile internet users downloaded games last year. In addition, the endearing Disney characters featured in LINE’s TsumTsum will make it a highly anticipated title for Filipino users.

“The Philippines is not far behind its neighbouring countries when it comes to mobile internet usage,” said Greg Kim, Head of LINE Philippines.

“That is why LINE Corp. eyes the country for further growth, especially now that we recently reached the one-billion-download benchmark.”

In a global scale, the number of worldwide app users for TsumTsum and LINE shows great promise. Kim added, “Who doesn’t love Mickey Mouse and his friends? Young people have a genuine connection with these characters and, at the same time, they remind the adults of their childhood.”
The TsumTsum and its colorful cast of characters have gained more than 14 million downloads. In fact, it was one of the top downloads in both the Apple App Store and Google Play.

This helped LINE extend its service to offline users, while fueling a 40 percent increase in sales.

The new game app’s popularity became evident when it bagged 2nd place in the Games, Toys, and Stationary category of Nikkei Trendy’s “First Half of 2014 Product Popularity Rankings.”

“It’s easy to enjoy this game,” remarked Kim. “The looks of the characters are given a unique twist and gameplay is simple yet engaging.”

High scores in TsumTsum are achieved by matching three or more sets of Disney characters or “Tsums” within the span of one minute. The aim is to eliminate as much characters as possible to accumulate more points. When the player eliminates five or more Tsums in a row, coins will be released; eliminating seven or more will guarantee the player the “Magical Bubble” item that serves as the game’s booster.

“The players can choose from our 29 different characters and enhance their skills to gain special abilities—including the ability to stop time or eliminate Tsums at the center of the screen,” Kim explained. “Apart from its offline availability, you can also play TsumTsum with friends and family through online play. This is definitely another way to have fun and reconnect with your loved ones.”

DepEd turns over school building in Batangas

The Department of Education (DepEd) handed over an eight-classroom, two-story building with provisions for Persons with Disability at Julian D. Luna Elementary School.

Education Secretary Br. Armin Luistro said adding that as a learner-centered public institution, DepEd establishes child-friendly, safe, and motivating learning environments, where differently-abled learners would be able to achieve their full potential.

Under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) for School Infrastructure Project Phase I, DepEd ensured that the classroom building was complete -- from electric fans to toilets -- before the turnover. PSIP involves the design, construction, financing, and maintenance of the said classrooms equipped with school furniture, fixtures, and toilets.

Classrooms built under PSIP have a design life of 25 years, as part of the Department’s technical requirements. Under the PSIP I contract, the contractor covers major maintenance such as structural assessment, termite control, and repainting of the school-building within 10 years.

The Aquino administration remains committed in addressing the growing needs in basic education. Even in the "last two minutes" -- as President Benigno S. Aquino III likes to call the remaining years of his administration -- DepEd will continue to provide basic inputs to address incremental enrolment, regular wear and tear, and senior high school (SHS) requirements.

He added that DepEd shall construct more classrooms in this year to prepare for the full implementation of SHS (grades 11 and 12) in 2016.

Denim Rules: What your jeans says about you ? Check this out

Take bell bottom jeans, for example. These pants, with their iconic bell-shaped hems, were introduced innocently enough—sailors in the U.S. Navy first wore them in the 19th century.

By the late 1960s, however, these exaggerated flares had been adapted by fashion-forward teenagers, not only as adolescent garb, but also to show a generation’s counterculture sensibilities. Even today bell bottoms speak so symbolically that they’ve become a key emblem of the 1970s, as much as a tie-dye headband.

Sporting bell bottoms in modern times isn’t out of date, but simply retro-chic, depending on your overall sense of style. Luckily, you’ve got plenty of other denim options—from skinny jeans to colored jeans—that speak volumes, too.

So what are the new fashion rules for wearing denim? Just one: DENIM RULES!

Jeans, in all their body-contouring comfort, can be worn everywhere—from the office to after-work parties. Whether you want to live in denim at work or play, the key is adapting jean-altering trends to suit your own style.

What do your jeans say about you? From revealing classical leanings to trend-spotting clues, we’ll tell you how your jeans are spilling the beans. But first, we’ll look at the different types of jeans out there.

SKINNY JEANS

Strutting your stuff in skinny jeans means one thing: You enjoy showing off your body. Skinny jeans say, “I want to attract attention,” and they do.

Caution: Skinny jeans are for slender and fit bodies only. Wear a long top either tucked in or worn on the outside to avoid a “whale’s tail” fashion disaster (a.k.a your underwear showing)

BOOT-CUT JEANS

Boot-cut jeans are just a step above “mom jeans”. In other words, they make for a flattering look, but they’re not exactly trendsetting. Boot-cuts say you’re not willing to push the envelope, but you’re also not willing to be completely left behind. How to make them cool? Wear them with a more modern shoe and funky accessories to liven up the look.

JEGGINGS

As in, jean-leggings. These super-slim pants are often manifestations of personality traits like being ultra-trendy and having a youthful flair. But, keep in mind that they are best worn by slim guys and gals.

Jeggings are very useful since they have a “tights” effect. They are great with voluminous, long and multi-layered tops.

BELL-BOTTOMS

The bell-bottom wearing woman is one who appreciates the “vintage” look. But they work mostly for people who have some height to their frames. Word to the wise: Bell-bottoms paired with a fitted top will draw attention to the waistline.

COLORED DENIM

A colored jean suggests whimsy and fun with a bit of “I’m not afraid to experiment” mixed in. Just avoid going monochrome—yellow over yellow, for instance, is a fashion disaster waiting to happen. How to wear it: Since the colored denim will take center stage, pair it on top with neutrals and clean lines.

Finding that elusive, yet perfect jean for your body type and personality can take a lot of time. Luckily, SM Supermalls will be holding a month-long jeans festival this July. Celebrating fashion that never goes out of style, SM will showcase a wide variety of events for denim lovers everywhere.

Check out THE DENIM BAR and get stylish ideas to rock your denims. The goal is to create the perfect outfit for you from their wide selection of jeans as well as tops, shoes and accessories.
