Microsoft joins DICT in Empowering the Filipino Through Digital Transformation at National ICT Summit 2018 in Davao City

“Empowering the Filipino through Digital Transformation”. That is the theme of this year’s National Information and CommunicationsTechnology (ICT) Summit held in Davao City. The summit is the culminating event of a month long celebration of ICT in the Philippines.

Since 2008, June of every year has been celebrated as ICT Month by virtue of Proclamation No. 1521, series of 2008. This is in recognition of the power of ICT as a strategic tool in governance, in delivering government services, and in driving economic growth.

The National ICT Summit was well attended, with over 500 government executives, ICT managers and practitioners, local government officials, academics, the private sector, students, and ICT industry players participating in the event.

Gracing the event was none other than President Rodrigo Roa Duterte who was guest of honor and speaker at the two-day summit.”

A faster and more efficient Government

In today’s digital world, it’s clear how huge ICT’s role is in the development of government services. Throughout the entire month of June, the DICT showcased projects that harnessed ICT to improve the efficiency of government processes that positively impact the Filipino public. From seminars, conferences, fora, focus group discussions, to technical trainings, there was no shortage of activities that presented and discussed emerging ICT technologies, products, services and new paradigms.

At the summit, the DICT showcased how ICT transforms the way government flagship and mission-critical projects such as the bold "Build, Build, Build" Program and the "Ambisyon Nation 2040" are efficiently implemented, monitored and managed.

To empower the Filipino, the government is looking to ICT to improve access to accurate information and develop more efficient services. This is through complementing government ICT plans, programs, policies, guidelines and standards affecting processes and the delivery of information and services to the people.

Digital transformation, cybersecurity, and AI

Also present at the National ICT summit was Microsoft, a digital transformation leader who presented global best ICT practices, emerging technology solutions, tools and paradigms that will allow the Philippines to leap-frog development stages.

In a keynote presentation, Microsoft Philippines discussed the economic impact of digital transformation, the hidden costs of cybersecurity, the future that is artificial intelligence, as well as the value of ICT in the development of the country.

“ICT remains a core component in the transformation and development of the Philippines. As the world moves toward a more digital way of life, so must our country. Technology is the great equalizer, and the key towards reaching our full potential,” said Christian Lim, Country COO - Microsoft Philippines.

As the country embraces digital technologies, Microsoft urged attendees to be vigilant and reminded them of the value of cybersecurity -- in terms of economic loss and loss of trust. Similar to the Comelec breach in 2016, breaches can come from anywhere, so it is extremely important the government’s data is secure.

Moreover, AI is a technology that is becoming more pervasive and can be a big contributor to the Philippines’ digital transformation. In particular, Microsoft highlighted conversational AI, such as chatbots, and how it is already making waves around the world. In fact, AI is already being utilized to serve local communities in other Asian nations like China and Japan.

“Microsoft is all about empowering people and organizations with technology. So it goes without saying that we are staunch supporters of the administration and the DICT’s mission to empower Filipinos through digital transformation,” said Lim. “Through the digital transformation of our government processes, we don’t just address operational inefficiencies, but create meaningful economic impact as well, leading to further development of the Philippines.”

Amaia VisMin gives youngsters a summer to remember

Summer is always a happy and memorable time for children. It conjures up a laidback and carefree season when kids just want to have fun with friends and family.

This is why top-of-mind affordable real estate provider Amaia Land helped kids in its Visayas-Mindanao communities experience a fun-filled but productive summer last May.

For aspiring young hoopsters, a basketball sports clinic was held last May 5, 12, 19, and 26 at Amaia Scapes Northpoint. Experts and professionals from the field helped kids aged 7 to 10 years old hone their skills on dribbling, passing and shooting, even as they enjoyed playing with other participants.

Amaia Scapes Iloilo also held its “Kids Day Out!” event last May 25, 26, and 27 during which the youngsters—aged 6 to 12 years old—were provided with playground inflatables to play in and bounce on. They were also enjoined to participate in face painting and arts and crafts sessions. To top it all, all the kids received snacks, loot bags, and other freebies from Amaia.

Grace Guinto of Amaia Land says that their Summersaya program was intended not only to provide fun and amusement to residents and neighbors but also to encourage families to spend quality time together.
Guinto likewise relates that “the Summersaya activities fostered a spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie among the Amaia communities’ children and helped boost their self-confidence, improve their social skills, and enhance their creative expression.”
Looking forward to holding similar activities in the future, Guinto also wishes to thank their partners who helped make these events possible.

Why You Should Add Health in Your Calendar

Healthcare is now more than just curing diseases. Medical practitioners have a new and more comprehensive approach when it comes to treating their patients.

According to Dr. Lizbeth Sto. Tomas, a Wellness Doctor of Internal Medicine at The Medical City Clark, “Health is simply the absence of any physical sickness. Wellness, meanwhile, is a more encompassing concept that is rooted in a person’s overall lifestyle.”

The Medical City Clark’s Executive Check-up program focuses on giving solutions that aim to improve their patients’ overall wellness, one that is preventive, promotive, proactive, and personalized.

More comprehensive tests than regular check-ups

According to Dr. Sto. Tomas, the doctors at The Medical City Clark’s Executive Check-up do comprehensive tests that allow them to check the patient’s overall condition. They personalize it based on the patient’s current lifestyle as well as his genetic family history and previous medical conditions. The same physician also oversees the same patient for a better and more comprehensive overview of the patient’s case.

Ms. Rochelle Aquino-Lagman, the Manager for Customer Relations and Allied Services of the Medical City Clark noted a crucial detail in their program, “We make it a point that our Executive Check-up Coordinators would be closely managing a patient up until they checkout. The same person will also be following up on them post-executive check-up.”

Comfort and Convenience

Waiting for the doctor’s appointment can get dragging and results can take hours or even days. The Medical City Clark offers its VIPs a comfortable stay complete with a lounge with free snacks, Wi-Fi, air conditioning and television. VIPs who undergo a complete physical exam have the option to be admitted in one of The Medical City Clark’s hospital suites for an easier time in getting results the next day. Ms. Rochelle, who has a background in hotel management, describes their Executive Check-up Program as “similar to a hotel, a mini-hotel, where we assist like a butler, up until the client will be inferred to a specialist.”

The Executive Circle Club Card

The Executive Circle Card is the newest offer by The Medical City Clark that has exclusive membership discounts that will even include the cardholder’s dependents. The Medical City Clark also partners with several hotels, offering corporate rates to patients as well as their dependents with the Executive Circle Club Card.

True to their VIP treatment of their patients, members will also have first access to events by The Medical City Clark such as post-graduate courses, congress fair, and launches. Card registration is free and is activated when you schedule an appointment at The Medical City Clark’s Executive Check-up Program.

Dr. Lizbeth Sto. Tomas recommends an annual executive check-up for patients with unremarkable medical history or those who don’t have any serious medical concerns in the past or at present. However, if a person is taking maintenance medications, the attending physician may require an executive check-up every 3-6 months.

When it comes to your health, choose a hospital that will give you the best care. The Medical City Clark is located in Clark Freeport Zone, Pampanga that is accessible to Central Luzon residents. For more information, you may call The Medical City Clark’s Wellness office at (045) 300 8000 or 0916-448-8046.
