Generation G in Full Swing: Kumu partners with GlobeOne for latest live talent search

Over the month of October, fifty content creators battled it out on leading social entertainment app, Kumu, to become the final sixteen to be on Generation G: GlobeOne Creator Camp, a show produced in collaboration with GlobeOne, the app that contains everything you love about Globe—from managing your account to getting exclusive gifts and discounts.

Hosted by KC Montero, also Kumu’s VP of Content, and featuring celebrity judges Kimpoy Feliciano, Anji Salvacion, Benedix Ramos, and Eian Rances, this competition can be watched on Kumu’s own channel (@kumusocialtv on the app) and will be streaming live at 7PM PST on the following dates: November 15 and November 22, with the finale set for November 29. The first episode went live last November 8, which saw Dom Real come out victorious.

A “wildcard winner” will be selected to enter the finale to really shake things up, determined by the total number of GlobeOne app downloads they generated throughout a livestream challenge before the finale. In the original pool of fifty creators, there were already some considerable wins, with prizes ranging from a year-long GPlan Plus 799 to a Globe at Home Prepaid WiFi LTE Advanced Broadband setup. The grand winner will receive Php 500,000 in cash at the finale.

Unlike previous campaigns, which focused on particular and more categorized talents, Generation G gives a wide berth for creativity in its search for the next big content creators. “We’re anticipating that those watching will be inspired by what the finalists produce,” says Roland Ros, CEO and Co-founder of Kumu. “As a company, that’s exactly the kind of future we’re hoping to play a part in—we want to help stabilize and bridge the gaps in the creator economy, to rightfully reward originality and inventiveness.”

This is only one of many of Kumu’s fruitful partnerships. Names like The House of Collab, Philippine Volleyball League, Penlab, and Pinoy Big Brother have all touched the kumunity in varying degrees, establishing spaces for special interests and nurturing the people who are drawn to them.

“Social media and entertainment apps feel like gathering places now—much more than just an icon to tap when you’re bored,” says Rexy Dorado, President and Co-founder. “Not only are Kumu and GlobeOne inclusive stages for anyone who has something to share, but they’re also productive—people can really build a career and a community this way. As for Generation G in particular? Let’s just say I’m excited to see what happens when the wildcard winner gets thrown in!”

Watch it all unfold live on Kumu, available for download for iOS and Android; or get updates on discounts and other deals on the GlobeOne app, available for download here. Follow and use the hashtag #GlobeGenerationG for updates on the show and the finalists.

BAYAN KO – A Filipino Concert by Philippine Baranggay Folk Dance Troupe all set on November 26 – 27

Come and celebrate the 76th anniversary of the Philippine Baranggay Folk Dance Troupe in a concert dubbed as BAYAN KO on November 26 (7 pm) and November 27 (3 pm and 7 pm) at the CCP Main Theater Lobby.

BAYAN KO is a depiction of the true identity of the Filipino people, showcasing the colorful and unique indigenous tribal and folk cultures with their customs and traditions, through music, song, and dance.

The artistic team of BAYAN KO is led by Ronnie Del Barrio (Director / Artistic Director of PBFDT); Mariano Santiago (Associate Artistic Director) and Jun Arandela (Musical Director).

Originally ‘barangay’ meant boats used by the Malays arriving on the shores of the Philippines during the pre-Spanish times. Later, the name came to connote the unit of government known as the ‘Pueblo’.

The word ‘barangay’, with its connotation of friendly association and harmonious living, was adopted by the Philippine Baranggay Folk Dance Troupe (PBFDT) to reflect its objectives of developing the physical, mental and social life of the individual through the cooperative effort of the members.

For the past seven decades, the PBFDT has traveled to the different stages of the world across Asia, Europe, and North America, providing a window to the complex and culturally rich history of the Philippines.

The troupe continues to research, preserve and showcase the diverse multicultural Philippine life, with its customs, traditions, various religions, depicting the gaiety and friendliness of its people through its performances of the native arts in their authentic form.

The folk-like and unaffected atmosphere of the performances have won the world over as they present the story of the Philippines through a panorama of songs, dances and music.

The troupe has received many citations and awards both nationally and internationally.

The most prestigious of these is the Philippine Presidential Medal of Merit Award ‘Patnubay ng Kalinangan sa Sayaw’ (1971)—a truly distinguished award of recognition for the important contribution the troupe is making to its home country.

In 2021, the PB proudly celebrated its 75th Anniversary, a testament to the pioneering leadership of the founding Artistic Director — the late Dr. Paz-Cielo A. Belmonte, awardee of the Gawad CCP Para sa Sining at Sayaw (1990), Philippine Centennial Awards (1999) and the Gintong BAI Awards (2005).

The PBFDT continues to excel as one of the leading dance companies in the Philippines, playing an important role in folk dance education, with most of its members being teachers and educators.

The group has had a significant impact on the development of the Filipino youth’s values in appreciation of their own culture, arts and traditions, particularly folk/traditional dance and music.

The PBFDT have traveled to Russia’s Red Square, climbed the Great Wall of China, visited the land down under in Australia, crossed the Berlin Wall and basked in the shadows of London’s Big Ben and Paris’ Eiffel Tower while criss-crossing all of Europe, danced on the stages of Las Vegas and Broadway and performed alongside Mickey Mouse in Disneyland.

Inspired and guided by the ‘Baranggay Spirit’ and discipline, members and alumni have organized folk dance groups in their respective schools/universities and communities worldwide, with the continued support of the mother company, previously under the leadership of Administrative & Creative Director, the late Mr. Eugenio C. Ticzon, or ‘Kuya Eugene’ as he is fondly remembered by most.

Indeed, the PB has expanded a thousand folds in its 76 years of existence — the longest running folk dance group in the country — and it will continue to expand to attain its mission of educating the Filipino youth towards appreciation, preservation and promotion of their Philippine cultural heritage.

Today, the dance troupe is under the new leadership of Administrative & Creative Director, Ronnie del Barrio, who joined the PB in 1982 as a Principal Dancer during his time at the PNC (now PNU). Ronnie’s career spans the past three decades, working as a creative director and choreographer, and a performer in London West End shows. Ronnie has worked closely with Philippine Embassies and communities across Europe as an arts consultant, collaborator and facilitator for cultural projects worldwide. Ronnie co-founded PB’s sister company, the Lahing Kayumanggi Dance Company (LahingKayumanggi.com), which has become widely recognized as Europe’s foremost Philippine cultural performance company.

The Journey Towards #MeganBeautyWorld

The world is our runway. To be able to walk with grace and beauty, one must be clothed with confidence and strength to face every challenge the world has to offer. In doing so, the power it takes to be fearless in taking on the world is something that has to be done with all the will-power one could gather, including the confidence in being beautiful as you really are.

As Miss World 2013, Megan Young has been a catalyst of women empowerment through championing beauty with a purpose movement. In one of her Instagram posts, she said “I want to feel empowered with or without makeup and not be hard on myself.”

On a random day, Megan Young was casually strolling along and discovered the products of Megan Beauty, and to share it with others, she featured it in her vlog. The brand caught her interest because it was in her namesake. She had bought a peel off mask, eye gel patch, and facial foam wash. Megan had the heart to share the products she bought as she thought it was really effective and had done the job right.
Later on after posting the said video, Lifestrong Marketing Inc., the company behind Megan Beauty, chanced upon Megan’s vlog and figured she could be the new face of the brand. As a result, a lunch date was set and that’s when they got to know her better which proved sealing the deal was the right choice. Hence, Megan Young was made the new and freshest brand ambassadress of Megan Beauty.

The reason why Megan Young is the ideal representation for Megan Beauty is because of how she fits just right with the brand. Megan Young, as most of us know, is the first ever Filipina crowned as Miss World year 2013. Aside from being a beauty queen, she is a model, television presenter, host, vlogger, a diehard gamer, and a loving wife to long-time beau Mikael Daez

Megan Young continuously lives up to the prestige that bears her name. As the newest brand ambassadress of Megan Beauty, she is now here to not just empower women from the inside out by making them feel beautiful, but also to embody confidence and be clothed with nothing but love of self-care. Megan once stated, “I always tell girls that I meet na as much as it’s great to become someone, make sure that your goal is to be the best you.” Undeniably, the beauty queen never ceases to inspire people of all ages with her wit and passion.

Margaret Lee, Megan Young and Lance Lee

Megan Beauty is a personal and beauty care product promoting Filipina beauty since 2009. It is known for being budget-friendly and easy-to-use without compromising the quality and effectiveness in achieving your desired Filipina beauty goal.

Furthermore, the products of Megan Beauty promotes not of changing one’s look to feel as pretty as one aims to be, but to enhance what one already has. Merging beauty and confidence is what Megan Beauty’s next campaign is, through #MeganBeautyWorld– it is a fusion of helping women realize that with Megan Beauty all Filipinas are beautiful, and showcasing that inner beauty as they take on the world by heart. This aims to empower all women, and the women at heart, in reminding that everyone is beautiful in their natural element; no more, no less.
