Why #Petmalu teen singing idol, LA Santos loves music?

With passion for music, Lnard Antonio Santos known as LA Santos, the 18-year-old UST (University of Santo Tomas) student, is the singer behind the hit song Tinamaan.

Some called him as "The Boy Next Door" or "The Singing Idol", this teen singer also composes songs. Being grateful and blessed, LA has found his niche in music and is carving a name for himself.

A testament to how powerful music is, LA admits music has done a lot of good things to his young life.

“I am able to express myself through music. It is said that music is a universal language. There is a song for every emotion, whether you are happy, depressed, in love, heartbroken, angry. It also helps you compose a song because may hugot ka. I get lost when I sing. I let people know who I am and how I feel through the songs I sing. In fact, I am a living example of the healing power of music,” LA shares.

The Star Music recording artist has a self-titled debut album which contains six originals (Tinamaan, Ikaw Kasi, One Greatest Love, Bakit Pag-Ibig, Miss Terror, and Mine) and three covers (Bruno Mars’ When I Was Your Man, Sarah Geronimo’s Forever Is Not Enough and Angeline Quinto’s Hanggang Kailan).

LA just recently finished a two-night mini concert at The Music Hall @ Metrowalk with the SRATS (the young stars of Asian Artist Agency).

Aside from performing on Ian Veneracion’s first major foray into concerts, LA staged a sold-out major solo concert titled #Petmalu at the Music Museum which one concert goer described as "malupet."'

LA with the SRATS have mall tours for series of shows:
  • June 9 (SM Valenzuela)
  • June 10 (SM Pulilan)
  • June 30 (SM Sangandaan)

“It’s fun to work with SRATS. I’m looking forward to our next collaborations.”

How LA balances his time on his studies, career and lifestyle?

While he is happy to share his passion for music, LA admits there are challenges that he has to face.

“Actually, it’s difficult na pagsabayin ang studies and singing career. I am in my senior high at UST. Minsan nagkakasabay ang pag-aaral for an exam and rehearsal for shows. I don’t want to sacrifice iyong isa over the other. I have to balance my priorities and follow a strict schedule if I want to succeed in both my studies and career. At first, it was really hard especially when you have to wake up early for class after coming home late at night because of a commitment. I’m used to this routine now. I don’t regret any single thing. Who am I to complain? I’m grateful to be given these opportunities.”

LA also talks about his mother, Florita Santos. “I love my mom! Her unconditional love inspired me to dream big for myself, to conquer my fears, and to be the best version of myself. She is my biggest fan. Whenever I look in front of the stage, my mom is there, busy taking pictures and videos. I want to tell her that I love her and I’m thankful for all the sacrifices she has done for me.”

And more to see on this newest singing idol,  LA is  also doing acting workshops and on a movie project these coming months.

Asian Artists Agency New Generation Artists Stand Up Against Bullying

SRATS, the next generation stars of Asian Artist Agency say No to bullying.

SRATS include Aiana Juarez (online singing star and cover princess), Selena Marie (dubbed as the Ukulele Girl of YouTube and Facebook), Drei Raña (acoustic singer and PolyEast recording artist who just launched his debut single titled Ligaya), Miko and Gab (singing duo who popularized the hit song Hugot and who recently released another single, Sino Ba S’ya), Mastermind (online dance superstars and YouTube Silver Creator Awardees), and Wilbert Ross (Hashtag member and Showtime’s Kilig Ambassador).

These young talents are banding together to stand up against bullying which is rampant online and off.

To show their vehemence against bullying SRATS will stage a two-night mini-concert together with LA Santos at The Music Hall @ Metrowalk in Ortigas on May 19 and 26 (Saturday), 8pm. Billed SRATS (the next stars) Step Up! Stand Up! Be Better for a Better World, the show serves as a mouthpiece to voice out the teens’ solid stand against all forms of bullying. Ticket prices for the show is P500.

The show integrates the “Step Up, Stand Up” campaign that aims to promote Anti Bullying awareness in schools, campuses around the country. It strongly encourages everyone to stand together against all forms of bullying. The campaign aims to increase awareness and inspire people to act. Aside from the Anti Bullying message, the show also promotes every individual’s Power to Dream and Power to Love. It encourages the youth to never give up on their goals, to find their purpose in life, and to know that everything good is possible.

SRATS share their views on bullying and how they overcame this form of human abuse.

Wilbert says, “I felt bullied when I first came to Manila. Lumaki kasi ako sa Davao so lahat bago sa akin pagdating ko sa Maynila. Niloloko akong promdi. Of course, I got hurt but it didn’t stop me from pursuing my dream to be an artist. Di naman porke taga-probinsiya ako eh hindi ko kayang makipagsabayan sa hamon ng buhay sa Maynila. When I look back, natatawa na lang ako. I became stronger because of the unpleasant experience I had in the past.”

Miko shares an experience when their family left for Canada. “I was teased by some of my classmates because of my Cebuano accent. They couldn’t understand me when I talked. I just shrugged it off. I told myself, ‘Hey, just do your stuff. You can’t please everybody.’ They can say nasty things about me but they can’t take away my dream and my talents.”

Gab has his own take on bullying. “I was once told na mahina ako because I am naturally shy. Some people have this impression that I am submissive at laging nakasang-ayon sa sinasabi ng iba. That’s not true! I stand firm kung alam kong tama ako.”

Aiana relates, “When we moved to Canada, it took a long time before I had my own circle of friends. I was even asked when I went to class, ‘You’re not Canadian, right?’ I told the girl, ‘I’m from the Philippines. Is there a problem?’ I think you have to show people na hindi ka nila kayang takutin.”

“There was a time when a neighbor got mean. Maybe she thought no one will protect me. My parents are always out of the country. At a young age, I learned how to be independent and strong because I have to rely on myself,” Selena adds.

Drei has his own share of experiences with online bashers. “I like uploading my covers on Facebook but sometimes I am surprised to see unfriendly comments. I guess you can’t please everybody. But these comments serve as my motivations to do well. Kasi kapag pinansin ko ang mga ito, nagpatalo ako sa kanila.”

“Marami kaming pinagdaanan ng grupo before we became Mastermind. Minamaliit kami dahil probinsiyano. May mga kantiyaw na masasakit pero ito rin ang nagsilbing inspirasyon namin para magsumikap at pagbutihin ang aming pagsasayaw,” Pao of Mastermind comments.

Who Is Afraid Of Tin Catacutan?

Tin Catacutan probably comes across as a strong and liberated woman who is confident to bare some skin either on her social media accounts or on the small screen. She played a beach babe, the vivacious local surfer Vivoree in the afternoon series Hanggang Saan where she donned two-piece swimsuit. “I’m at my happiest in a bikini. Or any beach-inspired outfit,” when asked about her favorite get up. People may find Tin intimidating but is there anybody who is afraid of Tin?

There’s more to Tin than meets the eye.

Tin describes herself as a “nature-loving, good vibe-sharing hippie firecracker.” She is full of zest and she saunters through life. This kind of personality makes her an exciting artist, event host, and model.

Tin is no stranger to the entertainment scene. The DLSU Communication Arts graduate started honing her hosting talent in high school but it became a full-blown passion and career in college when she was a radio DJ for DLSU’s radio station. With her wit and gift of gab, Tin has already hosted several events and is now getting many hosting offers. “I make sure to prepare ahead of time. I get to know the clients, the audience, and the program thoroughly to make sure I know how to handle that particular event.”

She never frets whenever she encounters problems during an event. “I work with what I have. If there are technical issues and I am asked to stall, a trick I always do is to roam around and talk to the audience. I don’t have to keep talking nonsense on stage just to avoid dead air. The most common problems are technical issues and late speakers. When those inevitable things happen, I do my trick or shuffle the schedule around a bit (with permission from the organizers of course).”

She has recently expanded her resume to include actress in her job description. Tin always dreamed of being a part of a fantaserye. Her dream role is to be a warrior princess or anything that will involve action.

Tin shares, “I like my job because it’s FUN and every project allows me to grow as a performer and an individual. I’ve met a lot of interesting people and travelled to beautiful places because of my job. I stay motivated by keeping in mind that each circumstance is a chance for me to learn something and that everything happens for a reason. It also helps to maintain a grateful heart. That way, you can look at everything in a more positive light.”

“What I like most about the entertainment industry is the ability to make people happy. But even more than that, I love how being in this industry allows me to have a platform to affect people’s lives. My mission is to educate, inspire, and spread good vibes,” Tin adds.

Tin says that God, her family, nature, and the desire to become a positive force in this world are what inspired her. So who’s afraid of Tin Catacutan? With all the positive vibes she is spreading to those around her, definitely there are no reasons why people should be afraid of Tin.

Chef Anton Amoncio in "Let It Snow": An Early Christmas in Canada

Chef Anton, together with other world-renown chefs, whipped up appetizing recipes using Canada beef.

It was an early Christmas gift for celebrity chef Anton Amoncio who is still in high spirits after participating in “Let it Snow,” a chef exchange program by the Canadian Beef Centre of Excellence held in Calgary, Canada. This is the first time that a Filipino chef was featured in the exchange. His trip was made possible through the Culinary Exchange program of the Canada Beef Centre of Excellence and in partnership with Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise.

The week-long event is in celebration of Canada 150, which is the 150th founding anniversary of Canada. Three events happened at different Canadian luxury resorts, highlighting the seasons of Canada: at the Fairmont Banff Springs in early summer, Fairmont Royal York Toronto in harvest season, and Chateau Lake Louise for winter. Chef Anton’s visit to the famous Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise is the finale of Canada Beef’s Canada 150 celebrations this year.

Chateau Lake Louise is a luxury outdoor travel experience located in one of the most beautiful sceneries that Canada has to offer.

Chef Anton rubbed elbows with some of the culinary experts including Chef Marty Carpenter, president of the Canadian Beef Grading Agency, and Abe Van Melle, the Technical Manager for the Canadian Beef Centre of Excellence. Interesting topics about Canada were discussed over dinner at the Chop Steakhouse and Bar.

According to Chef Marty, Canada beef is classified by its flavor, which comes from the predominant use of barley in their cattle feed. Combined with the almost vineyard-like culture of their cattle industry, this puts Canada beef in a league of the world’s premier beef products.

Chef Anton also joined in the briefing activities scheduled for “Let it Snow” and toured the kitchen at the head office of the Canada Beef Centre of Excellence. Chef Marty brought the entourage for lunch to the Bow Valley Ranche Restaurant at Fish Creek Park where Chef Anton had the opportunity to meet Jean-Francois Fortin, the Executive Chef of the famous Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise and Michael McLean, who works with the Bar U Ranch National Historic Site.

Chef Anton had his share of the limelight when he presented his own recipes using the best quality Canada beef: Beef Morcon Sliders, Bistek on Green Onion Blinis, and Beef Shortribs Sinigang in Green Mango. He proved once more that Filipino chefs are at par when it comes to culinary artistry. The warm acceptance that Chef Anton experienced in his trip to Canada was enough to melt even the biting cold of winter.

Dawn Zulueta Reunites With Vic Sotto

Dawn Zulueta takes a break from doing drama as she brings comic relief to the public with her new movie Meant to Beh opposite Vic Sotto.

One of the eight official entries of the 2017 Metro Manila Film Festival, 'Meant to Beh' directed by Chris Martinez, marks the reunion of Dawn and Vic who have worked together in Okay Ka, Fairy Ko several years ago.

Meant to Beh is about married couple Ron (Vic) and Andrea (Dawn) whose differences mar their relationship despite living in the same house with their children. How will they reconcile their differences and save their marriage? Find out in Meant to Beh.

Dawn shares, “I was so excited when I learned that I will be working again with Vic. It’s been years since we did a project together. Meant to Beh is a feel-good movie for the whole family. The holiday season is meant to be shared with our loved ones. The audience will not only laugh as the story unfolds but they will also learn good values that they can bring to their homes. I’m sure they will enjoy watching the movie. Love must always be present in a relationship but spice it up with some laughter and cheer.”

Meant to Beh also stars JC Santos, Daniel Matsunaga, Sue Ramirez, Andrea Torres, Gabbi Garcia, Ruru Madrid, and Baste. The movie is an official entry to the Metro Manila Film Festival 2017.

Juarez Siblings: Family Goals

The Bee Gees, The Carpenters, The Corrs, Hanson, The Jackson 5, Jonas Brothers, The Moffatts, The Pointer Sisters. These are only some of the famous siblings who skyrocketed the charts with their musical talents, creativity, and commercial success as a group.

If these characteristics worked wonders to the famous broods, then musical success is also possible and within reach by the Juarez siblings composed of Anton, Miko, and Aiana. As the newest talents of Asian Artists Agency, Inc. (AAAI), the siblings are steadily making a name for themselves in the local music scene.

These brood of musicians once formed a band called Game4 whose song covers can be viewed on YouTube. Their family moved to Canada in 2011 but returned to the country last year to give way to Miko’s audition in ABS-CBN’s Pinoy Boyband Superstar.

Anton Juarez is a gifted singer-songwriter who started his love affair with song writing when he was 13. He penned the hit debut single Hugot of the singing duo Miko and Gab. He shares, “One evening last year, I wrote Hugot. It was from 11 pm to 3 in the morning.” Little did Anton know that the single will become an instant hit among fans and music lovers. The single is currently at the top of the chart at MOR 101.9 and its official music video is gaining a number of views, shares, and likes. Anton’s music credentials include penning the song Restart Back to Love (with Jonathan Manalo) and writing songs for artists like Yeng Constantino.

Younger brother Miko Juarez got the public glued on television when he joined Pinoy Boyband Superstar. He became an instant heartthrob among fangirls. He lasted until 12 aspirants remained. When asked about his take on fame, Miko said, “Fame doesn’t happen overnight so we have to work hard and improve our skills if we want to last in this industry. Our family goal is to support and bring out the best in one another and to create good music that can inspire people.”

As the other half of the singing duo Miko and Gab, he is overwhelmed and grateful for the public’s interest in them. Their song Hugot can be downloaded in Spotify and iTunes.

The youngest and only rose among the thorns, AIANA is a real head-turner. If looks is not enough, wait until you hear her sing. She has viral covers of Titibo-Tibo by Moira dela Torre and Dahil Sa ‘Yo by Iñigo Pascual. “Like music, we siblings live in harmony. I thank my kuyas for being there for me. I can always rely on them. It’s fun jamming along with my brothers. When someone starts humming tiyak na there’s another one who will sing along with the tune.” Aiana is also featured together with Miko and Gab doing a cover of Too Good at Goodbyes.

You can follow Anton, Miko, and Aiana at their social media accounts.
