Liza Soberano, the new face of Pru Life UK : Decoding the secrets of your identity - A lowdown on commercial DNA analysis

Liza Soberano, the new face of Pru Life UK, also took the scientific and personalized approach to becoming her best self, using myDNA Pro to guide her diet and workout plans.

DNA—or Deoxyribonucleic acid, the long molecule that contains our genetic code

Pru Life UK brought the myDNA Pro Program to the Philippines to give their clients total life, wealth and health protection in one product that goes beyond regular exercise and diet. A component of Pru Life UK’s myDNA Pro Bundle, the program is bundled with the company’s eligible insuravest or investment-linked life insurance products: PRUlink assurance account plus, PRUlink exact protector, and PRUlink elite protector. The package also provides coverages for disability, accident, hospitalization, and critical illness.

Humans are innately curious and it’s part of our nature to want to know more about ourselves. As we become more introspective, we explore wider sources of self-discovery. Today, horoscopes and personality quizzes are not enough to give us a bigger picture of our identity.

If you’re itching to know more about yourself, go beyond finding out if you’re a Metal or Fire Dragon, or how Mercury in Retrograde affects your star sign. More than learning about your personality, why not look into your biology to understand the essence of your identity? The answer to your questions is found in three letters: DNA.

Unraveling the strands of your identity

We all know about DNA—or Deoxyribonucleic acid, the long molecule that contains our genetic code—from school. Similar to an instruction manual, it dictates how we are built, how we grow, and how we develop.

Since last year, consumer DNA tests have become more popular than ever. The number of people who have had their DNA analyzed with at-home consumer kits exceeds more than 12 million, according to global industry estimates. Popular genealogy tests such as AncestryDNA and 23andMe Review give an individual’s genealogy profile, detailing a person’s ethnicity and origins. These services have become a big hit by revealing who we are at our very core.

Commercial DNA analysis is the next big thing in personal assessment. But more than telling your ancestry and details of your past, this innovation gives information that will help with your present life and give you cues on how you can optimize your future. Some DNA analysis services can tell you which nutrients or what diet work best for your genetic makeup, for example. This study of genetics and how it affects nutrition is called nutrigenomics.

DNA discovery starts at home

Services like the myDNA Pro Program use nutrigenomics to help you discover how you respond to food based on your genetic profile. This gives you an idea of why a popular diet works for your friend but not for you, or why your sibling, who barely does any exercise, can be skinny while you have to consistently workout just to keep flabs at bay.

The myDNA Pro Program analyzes genetic variations that affect individual nutritional needs, sensitivity to certain nutrients, and fitness traits. Specifically, it can detect factors such sensitivity to alcohol, gluten, or caffeine; appetite control; and injury risk. It also provides your ideal method of preventing diseases like hypertension, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. The myDNA Pro Program gives you a picture of your general well-being and provides tailored advice that leads you to a healthier life.

DNA analysis starts with a simple saliva swab using the sampling kit. The sample is sent to Prenetics, the leading genetic and digital health testing company in Southeast Asia, where a team of scientists and registered dieticians decode your genetic makeup. After the analysis, the user receives the following within 10 business days -- (1) a detailed and personalized health risk and nutrigenomics reports; and (2) an exclusive 12-month access to the myDNA Pro mobile app where the user can set health goals, find recommendations based on his DNA, record his food and calorie-intake through a photo-food diary, chat-on-demand with a health coach, and follow a 16-week lifestyle intervention program.

Achieving your best self with total health and protection

The myDNA Pro Program was introduced locally on April 19 by British life insurer Pru Life UK.

Health and fitness personalities like The Sexy Chef co-founder Rachel Alejandro, and fitness coach Bok Santos attended the launch to talk about the practical applications of the myDNA Pro Program.

Liza Soberano, the new face of Pru Life UK, also took the scientific and personalized approach to becoming her best self, using myDNA Pro to guide her diet and workout plans.

Iconic Australian duo Air Supply takes us back to the 80’s for a special one-night show on 31 May 2018 at the Santa Rosa Sports Coliseum in Sta. Rosa, Laguna. This year’s Philippine concert is the first of several shows part of their Over Asia 2018 Tour following dates all over Canada and the United States.

Still supplying the classic hits 43 years since the release of their debut album, singer-songwriter and guitarist Graham Russell and lead vocalist Russell Hitchcock celebrate their trademark soft rock sound by serenading us once again with their massive catalog of evergreen love songs.

Air Supply began its humble musical journey opening for Rod Stewart back in Australia and eventually across North America and Canada, breaking through a whole new U.S. audience. Subsequent to their fourth studio record, Life Support, was the success of many beloved songs, including “Lost in Love” which unexpectedly rose to Top 10 in Australia. Their refreshing take on soft rock music somehow found its way to the distinguished Arista Records in New York. Immediately after the duo signed with the label, "Lost in Love" became the fastest-selling single in the world, leaping to the top of the charts worldwide. The band’s second single, "All Out of Love," attracted more fans and reigned the charts even longer.

Eight Top 10 hits later, "Lost in Love" was named Song of the Year in 1980, and, with the other singles, sold more than 10 million copies.

Russell Hitchcock's soaring tenor voice and Graham Russell's pure yet majestic lyrics have created a warm signature sound that would live on for a very long time.

Other hits of Air Supply are Making Love Out of Nothing at All, The One That You Love, Here I Am, Two Less Lonely People, Every Woman In the World, Sweet Dreams, I Can Wait Forever, Lonely Is the Night, Having You Near Me, to name a few.

Globe GCash now accepts PRN-based SSS payments from employers

All employers registered in the Social Security System (SSS) can now use GCash in paying contributions of their employees using the Payment Reference Number (PRN), which serves for real-time posting of contribution payments.

SSS President and Chief Executive Officer Emmanuel F. Dooc said that nearly one million employers, including household employers, will benefit from the mobile wallet service powered by Globe Telecom.

“This is part of the continuing improvements in the recently implemented new SSS collection system that makes use of PRNs to allow real-time posting of contributions. In partnership with Globe’s GCash, PRN-based contribution payment is now made faster and easier for business and household employers through their mobile phones,” Dooc said.

The GCash facility is a free mobile application exclusive to Globe or Touch Mobile prepaid users and postpaid subscribers. To pay through GCash, employers must use the system-generated PRNs, which they can obtain from the My.SSS portal in the SSS website.

To start using GCash, employers should register either by downloading the GCash app or dialing *143# to access the self-service menu using their Globe or TM mobile accounts.

Both business and household employers will be asked to assign a four-digit Personal Identification Number (PIN) to proceed with registration. The PIN must be keyed in together with the following information: for business employers, the first and last name of the company representative and complete company address; and for household employers, the employer’s first and last name, and address.

“It’s easy to get started paying SSS contributions with GCash. Once registered, just dial *137 and follow these steps: First, select 2 for 'National Government Agency' from the list of billers. Next, select 'SSS Employer/Household' then press 1 for contribution. In the next field that will appear, enter the PRN and click submit.” Dooc said.

For every successful transaction, GCash users will receive a text confirmation indicating the payment details, employer ID Number, applicable payment period and PRN.

“Globe GCash also offers a safe means for all our registered employers to pay contribution without any service fee,” Dooc explained.

Globe GCash lets users to purchase load credits, do online shopping, transfer funds, and pay bills. Users can put funds in their GCash mobile wallets by going to any authorized GCash partners, and through mobile phone banking and online bank transfers, among others.

For inquiries, employers may contact the GCash Customer Service Support Hotline at 739-2883, SSS Call Center at 920-6446 to 55, or email member_relations@sss.gov.ph.
