Tell your story and join Singtel’s The 5-Min Video Challenge, Get the chance to compete with the best in Asia, Africa and Australia and win as much as $30,000

What can you do in five minutes? Not many would claim to watch a film, but it’s a challenge that Singtel would like to make to seasoned and budding content creators with The 5-Min Video Challenge, a regional film competition where participants must create compelling content in a limited time frame.

The challenge’s theme is “Connecting Lives,” which aims to explore how the connections in life can bring the world together. The competition is open to creators from Singtel Group's markets across Asia, Africa, and Australia.

In the Philippines, Singtel has partnered with Globe to search for the country’s top content creators. Those interested in joining must fill out the application form available on the Globe website and submit their five minute video, along with the video poster, subtitles (if applicable), and members’ photos. Entries will be accepted until October 22, 2017.

“Our partnership with Singtel’s The 5-Min Video Challenge is part of our vision to give more opportunities to talented Filipinos to produce original content. At the same time, we are giving local audiences the chance to have access to quality content which they can watch whenever. Sometimes, all you need is five minutes to get a point across,” shares Chief Commercial Officer, Albert De Larrazabal.

Three local winners will be announced on the official Facebook and Twitter pages of Globe Telecom on October 30. The grand prize winner will get P150,000, while the first runner-up will win P50,000 and the second runner-up will win P25,000.

The grand prize winner and the first runner-up will fly to Singapore to represent the country in the regional round, where they will compete with entries from Africa, Australia, India, Indonesia, Singapore, and Thailand. The winners will be announced in a gala celebration on November 22 and the grand prize winner will be awarded $30,000, while the runner-up will take home $15,000.

Singtel will also be giving away special awards such as the Social Media Star award with the prize of $3,000. It is for the entry with the most number of likes on its trailer until October 22. There will also be two People’s Choice winners based on the top 2 entries with the highest votes during the regional voting in November. Winners will take home $3,000 and $2,000 respectively.

The 5-Min Video Challenge was established in 2016 by Singtel to test the creativity of the most talented minds in the region, and create a collection of entertaining and thought-provoking content in bite-sized pieces perfect for the mobile phone, one of the strongest drivers of entertainment consumption.

Last year, Miguel Lorenzo Sotto and Jazmine Yvette Reyes of the Philippines won first runner-up for their short film entitled Pagnanakaw.

“Biyaheng Proud Nanay, Trip Namin ni Nanay” winners finally arrived

LAST July 28, 2017, classes in all levels were suspended. Government offices had to close down due to heavy rains in Metro Manila because of Typhoon Gorio. But this did not stop the winners of “Biyaheng Proud Nanay, Trip Namin ni Nanay” selfie contest to troop to Manila to receive their prizes.

The selfie contest which follows the theme of "mother and child" is a collaboration between Make Your Nanay Proud (MYNP) Foundation, Inc. and Genesis Bus Transport Service. The selfie should be taken inside the bus with a caption that answers the question, “Why do you consider this travel unforgettable?” MYNP received 50 entries from different destinations of Genesis and Joy Bus.

Ms. Bemz Benedito, MYNP Managing Director, Gizella Martinez, Sarah Grace Codilla, Dr. Boy Abunda, Filipinas Bagorio, Ms. Loren Zubia, Assistant Marketing Manager of Genesis Bus Transport Service

Filipinas Bagorio is a 39 year old mother from Baguio City. When she heard that she won the contest, she immediately called the office of Joy Bus to make a reservation. Filipinas has three kids and she works in an insurance company for motor vehicles. “Tuwang tuwa po ako na ako’y nanalo dahil sa dami ko nang sinalihan ay ito ang pinaka una kong panalo,” Bagorio said.

Another winner is a CCTV and telephone operator of an electronic company from Cabuyao, Laguna. Nanay Gizella Martinez is 34 years old and has three children. She said that upon seeing the flyers inside the bus about the contest, she immediately posed with her daughter and sent it to MYNP and wrote a caption coming from her heart “Unang pag bisita sa pamilya at mga kaibigan sa norte. Salamat Genesis Bus sa safe na biyahe.” She added that she chose Genesis because she feels safe and comfortable.

On the other hand, another mother from the summer capital of the Philippines was very lucky during the rainy season as Genesis officials picked her entry. Nanay Sarah Grace Codilla, 25 years old has two children. She’s a native of Bukidnon in Northern Mindanao but settled in Baguio. Her work entails travel from Manila to Central and Northern Luzon as an insurance broker. She admits that there were times when she had to bring her daughter to her trip, Manila especially, where she has relatives too. “Genesis is always my travel buddy,” Codilla quipped. “Accomodating pa ang mga staff sa loob ng bus,” she added.

The awarding of prizes to the winners were attended by Make Your Nanay Proud (MYNP) Foundation, chairman Dr. Boy R. Abunda, MYNP Managing Director, Ms. Bemz Benedito and Ms. Loren Zubia, Assistant Marketing Manager of Genesis Bus Transport Service.

The three winners received a good for two all-expense paid vacation at Costa Pacifica Resort in Baler, Aurora and Php10,000.00 cash. The winners were very excited to their getaway vacation to rejuvenate with nature in picturesque Baler. After all, moms need a break, too.

Coaches Lea Salonga, Sarah Geronimo, Bamboo, Sharon Cuneta Team Up In “The Voice Teens”

Top-rating singing reality show “The Voice” is letting the voices of teens be heard as it opens an all-new season for teens for the first time in Asia soon on ABS-CBN.

Talented artists 13 to 17 years old will take on a musical journey of a lifetime with the guidance of four superstar coaches: Lea Salonga, Sarah Geronimo, Bamboo, and Sharon Cuneta.

“I don’t know what to expect. I joined the ‘Kids,’ now ‘Teens.’ I’m relaxed. It’s nice to be with people you’ve worked with before. It’s exciting, it’s the beginning of something again,” said the Megastar.

The first edition of “The Voice Teens” recently began taping its blind auditions, the first stage of the competition where teen artists from different parts of the country and the world try to get the coaches to turn around for them with only their voice.

“What I like about the teens and what makes things easier is their age is closer (to ours). You can be more critical. It’s a different game this time around. The teens, I’ll still give them a hard time – it’s my job,” said rock icon coach Bamboo.

Like in previous seasons, the coaches have prepared “possible sales pitches” to woo the artists they want to draft into their respective teams. But according to coach Lea, unexpected things happen during the blind auditions that viewers pay more attention to.

“A lot of the times, no matter what kind of preparation you make, you say things that fight for that person, not having prepared anything. Everything just comes out from the heart and it’s spontaneous. And I think it’s more fun when there’s stuff that you don’t expect, that are unplanned,” said the broadway diva.

Returning coach and popstar royalty Sarah is excited to return to coaching and will do anything to win this season.

“I still feel like a teenager. I think you should be familiar with the current hits because it’s their sound and it seems that a lot of them sound alike. The challenge is, how do you bring out the real them?” she said.

Which team will produce the next “The Voice” grand champion? From what part of the country or the world will the next Mitoy, Jason Dy, Lyca Gairanod, Elha Nympha, and Joshua Oliveros come from?

Watch out for “The Voice Teens” soon on ABS-CBN.

TOFARM captures lives of Farmers through Music

After successfully putting the spotlight on the lives of the Filipino Farmers at the ToFarm Film Festival, Universal Harvester continues its advocacy of recognizing the inspirational stories of the agricultural sector with the first ToFarm Songwriting Competition.
“What started out as a program to give recognition to the hardworking farmers has now evolved to different layers that form our main advocacy for agriculture," says Dr. Milagros How, Executive Vice President of Universal Harvester lnc.
“ToFarm was first crafted as a program to help award those in the agricultural sector whose hands and feet, hearts and minds have been dedicated to provide bountiful feast for the whole nation. But then we thought it would be more meaningful if the much needed call to recognition for this industry is extended to the public,” she adds.
This is an opportunity that Dr. Milagros How, Executive Vice President of Universal Harvester lnc. took advantage of as she continues her quest to creating awareness and recognition for her advocacy in the agricultural sector. To find a voice through song and to use music to gain recognition for our hardworking farmers and other workers in the similar sector this is the mission of the first TOFARM Songwriting Competition.

The TOFARM Film Festival last year where six stories highlighting the tribulations and triumphs of our farmers and similar workers in the sector were made, Universal Harvester Inc. now ventures into another medium to give more hype and meaning to their push for agricultural revolution.

“The TOFARM Film Festival, we harnessed the power of the cinematic arts to present the lives of our dear farmers and kababayans in the agricultural sector. Now, we are utilizing another field of art, which is music. Music is a universal language and we Pinoy are musical people. Filipinos are born with an innate talent in music. Our music are written from the heart in both lyrics and tune as we portray lives and everyday experiences through songs. Our songs contain and express our ambitions, dreams, emotions, frustrations, struggles and successes. With the musical compositions that we will harvest in the first TOFARM Songwriting Competition, we hope to discover musical wonders that would highlight the diligence, hard work, perseverance, resilience, tenacity and optimism of our farmers” - Dr. How explains in front of media at the launch event held at the Edsa Shangrila Hotel.

The opening of the Songwriting Festival was held last September 10, 2016 at the Mactan Function Room of the EDSA Shangri-la Hotel.

Heading the announcement during the launch are Dr. Milagros How, Executive Vice President of Universal Harvester lnc., Project Director Rommel Cunanan, with Luchie Roque, Trustee and former Program Director, National Music Competitions for Young Artists (NAMCYA), Jed Balsamo, resident music director of Ballet Philippines, Olivier Ochanine, former music director and conductor of the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra (PPO) and members of media present during the launch.

UP student bags first prize in local digital art contest - 'DigiPinoy”

A fine arts student form the University of the Philippines, Juan Paolo L. Magtira was recently declared as the winner in a nationwide arts contest dubbed “DigiPinoy” organized by Globe Telecom venture company AdSpark, an advertising solutions provider for local and global brands.

Magtira’s artwork, titled Intertwined, was picked as winner for the art contest for its sheer beauty and artistry.

Image credit: AdSpark.ph, Juan Paolo Magtira

“His entry was a unanimous choice among the judges out of 39 entries in the contest,” said Jean Lander Agor, marketing and creatives associate director at AdSpark.

“His piece was judged based on how well it exemplified the theme DigiPinoy, its originality and artistic merit. Intertwined will be displayed as a mural at the Creative Wall for the AdSpark office,” the company statement said.

Magtira is a graduating student of Visual Communication program of the College of Fine Arts in UP Diliman.

The description for his entry read:
This image depicts the ‘love story’ between man and technology; technology (represented by a robotic woman) is connected to man in an effort to foster advancement. To allow man to live efficiently and easier by removing his own limitations which is depicted by stones that cover his body (a reference to ‘stone age’ that connotes a primitive way of living). A robotic woman is chosen as symbolism because women are the conduits for the gift of birth; the concept being that women have the ability to create an entirely new essence. This can be compared to the technological advancements that can push mankind, or to be more specific our country the Philippines, to greater heights. Someday we may be free from our innate weaknesses; to live up to our infinite potential as a race granted with the gift of technology.
“The theme DigiPinoy delves on the concept of how Filipinos are impacted by the rise of technology and how going digital is shaping the Filipino culture while preserving our age old traditions,” AdSpark statement said.

According to AdSpark, “Social media and other digital platforms have profoundly transformed the way we carry on with our lives, especially for us Filipinos. It has opened up the possibilities of discovering new information, sharing ideas and revolutionizing how we interact with one another and the world around us. Among those in the frontline of the most digital savvy people in the world are the youth.”

Prizes for the winner include P10,000 cash, a Macbook Pro and 6-month paid internship at AdSpark. A formal awarding ceremony is being scheduled this month.

Apple Deleva, the Grand Champion of Season 2 McJim Classic Leather's "Dreams Get Real: The Search For The Next OPM Star"

Apple Deleva of Cabuyao, Laguna emerge as the champion during the concert-like finals night of the second season of McJim Classic Leather's "Dreams Get Real: The Search For The Next OPM Star."

Deleva receives a full album and music video grant; P100,000 in cash prize from McJim Classic Leather; artist marketing support; and a talent management contract.

With their aspirations for stardom at stake, McJim Dreams Get Real Talent Search’s Top Six gave the search their best shot—and their best performance ever—during the epic grand finals nights on Monday, Nov. 9, at the Music Museum in San Juan City.

From ten strong contenders, only six standout acts moved to the final round of the competition. Three of the six finalists were chosen by producers based on their overall performance and star quality, while the other three were people’s choices.

Deleva, a 19-year-old Communications student of University of Perpetual Help in Las Piñas, is a power belter who usually sings ballad and pop songs—and names Whitney Houston, Sarah Geronimo, Regine Velasquez, and her mom as her musical influences. Deleva quite expectedly aspires to be a professional and famous singer someday—a lofty goal that surely within reach. Her array of awards, after all, come from numerous singing competitions here and abroad. One that stands out was the Karaoke World Championships 2014 in Stockholm, Sweden. Deleva was also a semi-finalist at GMA 7’s popular show, “Bet Sa Kantahan”.

The producer’s picks include Laguna native Apple Deleva, and both Rizal natives Zsarina Concepcion and Carmela Ravanilla, while the people’s choices were Erickson Malabanan from Batangas, Micah Llona from Taguig, and Trix Casauay from Caloocan.

What makes this season even more exciting is that five of the six finalists are outstanding female vocalists who inspire each other to shine. But Malabanan, the lone male contestant, vows that he will go into the competition with his strongest performance ever.

Through the Dreams Get Real Talent Search, gentlemen’s brand McJim Classic Leather affirmed its image as an advocate for fresh new Filipino talents and Original Pilipino Music (OPM).

After launching the careers of some of the most in-demand acts today, like vocal trio JBK, pop-rock band Fifth Dynamics, and Neo Domingo, McJim continues to enliven the local music by giving aspiring artists the opportunity to kick-start their own musical journeys.

“The six last acts gave us an extraordinary show! Each one of them has something distinct to offer, which result in an epic finale,” says Chris Cahilig, Dreams Get Real project head. “It wouldn’t surprise me if all of them attained success after this competition because their talents are mind blowing.”

With each having different reasons for joining the competition, the finalists would rather let their performances on stage decide who the best really is come finals night. However, the contestants, who had found a new family during the talent search, say that no matter what happens, they will always be grateful to McJim for the wonderful opportunities given them.

Considered as the biggest threat in the competition, Deleva is humbled by the recognition but still feels nervous about performing on a big stage. The19-year-old Communications student of University of Perpetual Help in Las Piñas declares with confidence: “They can look forward to getting more from me as a performer.”
