Ninja Van Philippines kicks off DIGeCONOMY Bootcamp Series

Tech-enabled express logistics company, Ninja Van Philippines, continues to push its customer-first agenda to support micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) in the country. With the launch of the DIGeCONOMY Bootcamp Series, business owners can learn valuable insights and first-hand knowledge from industry experts to help them overcome the challenges of transitioning towards digitalization and maximize opportunities in the digital space.
During the first learning session, speakers from the public and private sectors shared insights on how MSMEs can better build their brand online.

“The Philippines is the fastest-growing market in the region and this has been driven by strict lockdowns caused by the pandemic, which led to businesses having to adapt and shift their transactions online. Here at Ninja Van Philippines, it is our mission to supercharge MSME growth in the digital space. We believe that Filipino businesses can further reach their potential with the help of these advancements and technology,” said Sabina Lopez-Vergara, Chief Commercial Officer of Ninja Van Philippines.
Sabina Lopez-Vergara, Chief Commercial Officer of Ninja Van Philippines.

Through multiple legs, the DIGeCONOMY Bootcamp Series will follow the digital transformation journey of SMEs and MSMEs—from building and growing their brand online to maintaining brand affinity among customers. Last March 22, the first leg of the series already began with a learning session that centered on developing a customer-centric brand for MSMEs and its importance as well as the available tools and solutions they can utilize to stay competitive in the digital market. It featured Ms. Nelly Nita Dillera, CESO III, Executive Director of the Department of Trade and Industry - Philippine Trade Training Center (DTI-PTTC); Ms. Kim Sabala, Founder and Managing Owner of Cold Gold; and Mr. Edward Cruz, CEO of ATOZ as the speakers.

Government support

Venturing into e-commerce is more than just presenting and selling products online. DTI-PTTC Executive Director Nelly Dillera ran through the end-to-end e-commerce management services that MSMEs have to know. From marketing management to data analytics and customer service, all of which are important for their businesses to be successful.

“The PTTC-GMEA (Global MSME Academy) has programs that can assist you on the different processes that I’ve mentioned. Our coverage includes business development, accounting and finance, and other business functions that support MSMEs,” Dillera said. “You can also visit PTTC’s website for self help training programs and further assistance on how you can progress more in your business.”

DTI has also compiled a list of TechTools that MSMEs can use to boost their businesses including e-commerce platforms/resources, e-payment channels, digital marketing solutions, and logistics providers like Ninja Van Philippines.

Branding essentials

Once you have all the tools and training to effectively run your business online, the next thing you have to do is focus on your branding. Founder and Owner of Cold Gold, Kim Sabala, shared how she grew her businesses to what they are today by maintaining consistent branding across all channels using three essentials: brand guide, social media strategy, and content calendar.

A brand guide helps you define the essence of what makes you stand out from your competitors. It involves identifying your target audience, mission and vision statements, unique selling proposition, core values and brand stylistics. On the other hand, having a social media strategy is important in knowing what works for your business goals and what doesn’t through social listening and setting key performance indicators (KPIs).

“From there, we can test, refine and evolve our practices to better work for our goals. Not having a strategy is like shooting in the dark. When you aim for nothing, you hit nothing,” she said.

Finally, your content calendar must include the type of content you want to deliver to your consumers, your preferred platform/s, a timeline, and some key events to make your content more relevant. Once you’ve done all these, you can begin implementing your plan and growing your brand.

Customer journey

According to the CEO of ATOZ and long-time Ninja Van shipper Edward Cruz, one of the most neglected processes when it comes to e-commerce is mapping the customer journey. “For us in ATOZ, we make sure that every data that is coming in the platform has an engagement whether it’s pre-purchase or after purchase.”

Customer journey begins with awareness of the product, which is a customer’s first engagement with your brand. From there, you can deepen the customer’s understanding of who you are and what you offer through influencer marketing and more advertisements that will drive consideration and finally, turn customers to buyers.

After purchase comes retention. “After the customer purchases from you, you have to re-engage them because at the end of the day, the first purchase they make on your platform will not really result in big profits. But if you have good retention, it’s very easy to re-engage those customers through email, SMS and social media content,” said Cruz.

The customer journey ends with loyalty where businesses get to deepen their relationship with their customers and really drive home the message, they want to instill to their customer base. Mapping out the customer journey can help MSMEs deliver better customer service and maximize every customer interaction, which can be advantageous for their brand.

Watch out for the next DIGeCONOMY Bootcamp Series learning session for this leg happening in May! Visit facebook.com/ninjavanph for updates and more information.

Puregold Channel Launches the Much-Awaited “Ang Babae Sa Likod Ng Face Mask” Romcom Series

This summer, expect pure fun and entertainment from Puregold Channel with the much-anticipated release of its first-ever rom-com digital series “Ang Babae sa Likod ng Face Mask” on March 26.
A 13-episode romantic comedy series conceptualized with Puregold, produced by award-winning filmmaker Chris Cahilig, and directed by critically-acclaimed Victor Villanueva, “Ang Babae sa Likod ng Face Mask” marks the introduction of social media personality and comedienne Herlene Budol in her very first starring role.

Popularly known as “Hipon Girl,” Herlene’s wit and charm helped her get an initial break—regular exposure on the variety show ‘Wowowin’. Now she takes on a lead role in Puregold Channel’s second digital series, “Ang Babae sa Likod ng Face Mask”.

“Napaka-exciting na opportunity ang ibinigay ng Puregold sa akin,” Herlene gushes. “Nakilala ako bilang co-host at sa aking sariling YouTube show. Ngayon naman, gusto ko ipakita sa lahat ng followers at Hiponatic supporters ang kakayahan ko bilang isang leading lady.”

“Ang Babae sa Likod ng Face Mask” tells the story of Malta, played by Herlene Budol, a 25-year-old cashier. Malta works hard to support her mother, Madam Baby, portrayed by seasoned actress, Ms. Mickey Ferriols.

One day at work, Malta meets the handsome but unlucky in love Sieg, played by Kit Thompson. It’s love at first sight for Sieg, who is mesmerized by Malta’s eyes. What unfolds is the story of how Malta and Sieg find love and overcome their doubts and insecurities, and break the negative cycles of their past.

“Ang Babae…” follows in the footsteps of Puregold Channel’s first series, “GVBOYS.” Both bring back warm feelings of nostalgia from the early years. Where “GVBOYS” is reminiscent of the 90s sitcom “Palibhasa Lalake,” this new series can be seen as the modern and comical “Blusang Itim” excluding the elements of fantasy.

Puregold marketing manager Ivy Piedad adds, “The ever-present face mask is now a symbol of hope and self-love for our lead in this new series. And we hope to entertain a large number of viewers online especially given the Pinoy’s fondness for light, romantic comedies.”

The entertainment media caught a preview of “Ang Babae sa Likod ng Face Mask” during its virtual launch, which drew the attendance of the show’s stellar cast such as Herlene, herself, her leading man Kit Thompson, Mickey Ferriols, and others.

Expect laughter, tears, and the highs and lows of great romcoms from the “Ang Babae sa Likod ng Face Mask”. Stream the digital series for free on YouTube Puregold Channel every Saturday, 6PM, beginning March 26, 2022.

Philippine digital revolution opens opportunities for more hyperscalers

With a fast-growing digital economy and strong digital roadmap, the Philippines proves to be an ideal investment destination for global hyperscalers or the massive international companies that dominate the cloud service sector.

Being one of the early adopters of 5G in the Asia Pacific region and tagged as a second ‘overperformer’ by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) in terms of readiness for frontier technology use, the country has the potential to become a valuable cloud region that could provide vast opportunities to global tech giants.

The Philippines boasts of an enticing demographic having the second-largest and one of the youngest population in Southeast Asia. It also has a literacy rate of 91.6 percent, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), that is among the highest in the world.

A report from We Are Social also showed that the country has unparalleled mobile penetration of 152.4 mobile connections and 67 percent internet penetration. Last year, the country also marked more than 4.2 million additional internet users which, overall, spend an average of 10.5 hours online, the longest time spent globally.

Likewise, the said report found that businesses have also been adaptive to the digital transformation with 80 percent e-commerce adoption. Market and consumer data provider Statista also estimated that e-commerce users will rise to 55.8 million users by 2025.

In this regard, PLDT—the largest fully integrated telecommunications company in the Philippines—has been ramping up its network and data center infrastructure to continuously increase the country’s attractiveness to more hyperscalers. To date, PLDT is already servicing a number of international content and cloud service providers by hosting their colocation, cloud, and connectivity requirements in its VITRO Data Center network.
The group – through its ICT arm ePLDT - currently owns a network of 10 globally certified VITRO data center facilities strategically located across the country, with a total capacity of 80MW and over 9,000 racks. Since network is as essential as data center reliability, all VITRO data center facilities are carrier-neutral, allowing other telcos both foreign and local to provide network connections based on customer preference and resiliency considerations.

“We believe that the Philippines has become an ideal data center location for global hyperscalers and that it is an emerging regional hub in Asia, which is why we at PLDT are continuously strengthening our infrastructure and network capabilities to support the hyperscale requirements of international tech giants,” said Jojo Gendrano, FVP & Head for PLDT and Smart Enterprise Business Groups.

The company has been rolling out initiatives to boost its network infrastructure, such as the completion of Jupiter Cable system that is expected to be fully operational by the first quarter of 2022. This will expand PLDT’s existing international bandwidth capacity of 16 Terabit/s with an additional 39.2 terabits. Its wireless subsidiary Smart, meanwhile, has already introduced its 5G services that provide faster data, less latency, and less interference for better efficiency.

“With our robust domestic and international network infrastructure in place and data centers at par with the technologically developed countries, PLDT serves as the gateway to bridge more global cloud service providers and content providers to the Philippines, further making it the new hyperscaler destination,” Gendrano noted.

In support of such thrust, PLDT’s B2B arm PLDT Enterprise launched a campaign that highlights the country’s capabilities as an emerging market suited for international technological companies on the lookout for expansion amid the fast-growing demand for digital services.

This video captures why the Philippines has emerged as the next important destination for hyperscalers. Check out PLDT Enterprise’s campaign video here: https://youtu.be/8XDziWohoJE

Curious about deepfake videos? Globe reminds netizens to be more careful online

More people now use the internet as their primary source of news, but along with it, the danger of being lured with false information. Advanced technologies have made the proliferation of these manipulated content and media more sophisticated.

One of the most widespread types of manipulated content involves deepfake -- videos that have been expertly edited to replace the person in the original material with someone else, usually a public figure. The aim may be to create confusion, deceive the public, cause reputation damage, or spread fake news, among other reasons.

Since it is very easy to take presented information at face value, Globe has made the Digital Discernment eModule under its Digital Thumbprint Program (DTP) available via its YouTube channel and Globe Bridging Communities Facebook Page. The Digital Discernment eModule serves as a guide to help netizens be conscious of the content they consume.

“The internet provides easy access to information, but not everything is real and verified. It’s important to always be critical of what we see online. As responsible digital citizens, let us do our part to deter these threats by stopping its spread and reporting malicious content,” said Yoly Crisanto, Globe Chief Sustainability Officer and SVP for Corporate Communications.

To tell if videos are deepfakes, the Digital Discernment eModule lists the following tips:

Carefully look at the difference of color whenever the subject speaks or the angle changes

Check for blurred spots, especially between the face and the neck

See if there are unnatural eye movements, facial expressions, and body movements

Observe if the speaker's emotion matches their speech or if lip movements match

When in doubt, netizens must research and verify with legitimate news and established entertainment sources if the videos are authentic.

Earlier, Globe created two other DTP eModules: Digital Insight, which deals on cybersecurity and safety, and Digital Impact, which is about online responsibility and etiquette.

“We have transitioned our highly successful DTP program into eModules to adjust to these changing times. People are online more often, and we want to create a safer digital environment for netizens. These bite-sized eModules present important lessons on digital citizenship in a very approachable fashion,” Crisanto said.

DTP is a series of workshops patterned after the Optus Digital Thumbprint in-school program in Australia. Each module aims to increase students’ knowledge of digital citizenship and cybersafety by taking a critical look at their online behavior and helping them develop insights into the influences of the online world and the choices they are making.

The company strongly supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDG), particularly UN SDG No. 4 on Quality Education and UN SDG No. 9 on Infrastructure, Innovation and Industrialization. Globe is committed to upholding the United Nations Global Compact principles and contributing to 10 UN SDGs.

Globe launches Shop & Pay

The future of retail to boost customer experience is here

Globe continues to elevate the customer experience while keeping them safe with its new store concept that combines traditional brick-and-mortar Globe Stores with a digital retail format.

Called Shop & Pay, the hybrid offering is a one-stop-shop for all of Globe's essential products and services. It was introduced as part of Globe’s annual 917 Day or September celebration inspired by its most iconic prefix: 0917. This month, Globe makes it a point to show its appreciation to its loyal customers through innovations that can uplift their lives.

“Globe provides today’s life-enabling essentials packaged in a reinvented retail experience centered on customer care and safety. With the pandemic and the growing adoption of digital technologies, we saw a big opportunity to mix online and on-ground retail experience for our customers,” said Bernie Llamzon, Globe EVP for Channel Management.

With the resurgence of COVID-19 cases, customers are looking for an alternative, safe, and convenient way to do their transactions in the new normal, thus, the rapid shift to digital.

The Globe Shop & Pay digital kiosks will help address customer hesitancy to visit and transact in physical stores. Instead, customers can use a digital touchscreen display in purchasing products and availing services. QR codes can be scanned, leading to online shops for payment and delivery requests.

To learn more about the different products, customers can use the “lift and learn” option. Once a demo unit is lifted, the video displayed will be interrupted to show the features of the phone and the corresponding hero offer bundled with it. If two demo units are lifted, a comparative table will appear to show both phone features and plan offers.

The digital displays also educate customers of available digital channels, highlighting mobile applications such as GlobeOne, GCash, and Globe At Home apps to help in the transition towards digital transformation.

Likewise, there are vending machines in the Globe Shop & Pay kiosks for bills payment, GCash cash-in, load top-up, or buying prepaid call cards and SIM cards.

This initiative is part of Globe’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDG), specifically UN SDG No. 9 which emphasizes the roles of infrastructure and innovation as crucial drivers of economic growth and development. Globe upholds the UN Global Compact Principles and contributes to 10 UN SDGs.
