Jobstreet by SEEK named runner-up at the YouTube Works Awards Southeast Asia 2023

Leading online career platform Jobstreet by SEEK was announced as a runner-up at the recently concluded YouTube Works Awards Southeast Asia 2023 with its video campaign series “Hire Real Talent”.

Jobstreet by SEEK’s three-part video series is considered as one of the most innovative and effective campaigns on YouTube in the past year. It was nominated for “The All Action Hero,” a category that recognizes brands that maximize the action-oriented features of YouTube to effectively achieve its goals and encourage conversion and/or awareness.

YouTube had garnered over 750 applications from across Southeast Asia, with Jobstreet by SEEK being only one of the 12 Philippine brands that were announced as finalists such as Nestle, Lazada, and GCash to name a few.

The Hire Real Talent campaign aims to bare the realities of hiring candidates on social media while encouraging hirers to utilize legitimate job platforms to target the right candidates. Jobstreet by SEEK went with a satirical and witty take on the matter to show hirers that seeking talents through social media may not bring them the best-suited candidates which can result in an inefficient recruitment process. Social media lacks identity verification, making it hard to distinguish real from fake accounts. Users often lack professional profiles and work experience information unlike in job platforms, making it difficult for employers to assess candidates.

In the first video, the applicant being interviewed had a display photo of a newly set-up social media account—anonymous, lifeless, and unrecognizable. As for the second video, the applicant shown was unidentifiable due to their profile photo being a family portrait. Lastly, in the third video, the applicant is seen to have had work experience in a fictitious restaurant, making it difficult to determine factual information about them.

The annual YouTube Works Awards, in partnership with research firm Kantar, recognizes and celebrates campaigns to champion the brilliant minds behind them. This year, it made its comeback bigger and better by bringing the competition all throughout the Southeast Asian region, presenting new categories and a jury brimming with local experts and brilliant minds.

“Being named as having one of the most effective campaigns this year is an incredible honor as we’ve seen a lot of exceptional executions over the past period, so we are extremely grateful for the YouTube Works Awards for recognizing our campaign. We will continue on creating content that will not just get the interest but also educate our audience to remain the most trusted career and talent platform in the Philippines,” shares Dannah Majarocon, Managing Director, Philippines, Jobstreet by SEEK.

JobStreet shows the realities of hiring on social media in video series, urges employers to hire real talent

JobStreet by SEEK continues its initiative to empower companies in seeking better candidates in 2023 through a series of videos in line with their latest campaign, “Hire Real Talent,” baring the realities of hiring on social media.

Social networking channels are proven to be an effective way of communication, but using them for seeking talents may be more inefficient than hirers think—and this video series depicts a witty take on real-life scenarios and challenges among employers that use social media for posting their job vacancies.
Aside from encouraging hirers to utilize legitimate job platforms in their recruitment process, JobStreet’s video series attempts to show the truth behind social media recruiting: when you hire through social media, chances are you have no idea who you're interviewing.

The first video depicts an applicant who resembles the avatar of a newly set-up social media account, illustrating anonymity, a lack of character, or a genuine identity. Likewise, the second video demonstrates the difficulty of recognizing the true applicant whose profile photo is a family portrait. Finally, in the last video, JobStreet displays an applicant with experience working somewhere fictitious, portraying a lack of professionalism and accurate information.

As users are not required to authenticate their identities or credentials on most social media sites, it is challenging to discern between legitimate and fraudulent accounts. In addition, most social media users do not present themselves professionally and have little to no work experience information, which limits the hirers’ opportunity to fully scrutinize their applicants based on their criteria.

“While social media is a convenient tool to share information, we want to let hirers know that not everyone in your following or likes is looking for jobs—and the best and most appropriate way to recruit active jobseekers is to reach out to where they are searching for opportunities, and that is through official job platforms,” said Kim Viray, JobStreet Philippines Head of Marketing.

“In today's competitive and fast-changing world, we recognize the challenges that come with the hiring process, which is why we continuously empower hirers and provide them solutions that they need on top of offering a platform with millions of quality and qualified candidates,” he added.

JobStreet aims to make hiring more convenient and efficient for employers, particularly for SMEs. Through its free job ad postings, businesses are entitled to a 30-day free job posting credit upon registration on JobStreet, giving seamless access to over 14 million registered candidates with free use of powerful candidate management tools, easy-to-use job ad writing tools, inclusion in job recommendations, accessibility on multiple channels, and many other benefits, allowing hirers to focus on selecting the best candidate.

Its beneficial features assure targeted job posting to relevant potential applicants, and it may save time by using screening tools to check and match skills and credentials with the role.

Hiring behind profiles: Why social media is an ineffective platform in recruiting talents for employers

Social media has broken barriers and opened the world of seamless communication by allowing users to share life updates and socialize on the platform. With its astronomical growth, it eventually offered many opportunities for businesses not only to promote their service but outsource potential employees.

However, social media can be a double-edged tool when used for business processes, particularly for recruitment. While social media can be a seemingly convenient tool to announce job vacancies, it doesn’t necessarily translate to quality applications.

In line with their latest campaign “Hire Real Talent” dedicated to educating companies in seeking the right talents post-pandemic, the leading online job portal JobStreet Philippines advises companies to reconsider the use of social media in their recruitment processes.

Difficulty in finding skilled and quality candidates

On social media, recruiters may encounter various applicants but finding qualified candidates can be a challenge. Although social media accounts can be helpful in doing background checks, it can result in prejudice, and recruiters may be unable to find relevant information such as credentials, job experiences, and skillset as compared to an actual professional job platform.

Social media profiles exhibit more personal and non-professional activities or information about an individual—ergo, filtering of qualified applicants can be taxing for hirers.

Social media job ads may NOT be targeting active jobseekers

Targeted social media ads get promoted to a specific category of people and are also shown to the general audience. While ads can be specific, social media users who fall under the selected categories are not automatically active jobseekers because the platforms are mainly used for socializing or content streaming. Hence, the costs of boosting job ads on social media may not be as effective in targeting the right candidates and, therefore, could potentially be a waste of company resources.

Filipino workforce prefers online job platforms

According to a recent study by JobStreet, “What Jobseekers Wish Employers Knew: Unlocking the Future of Recruitment” when looking for a job, 28% of Filipinos prefer online recruitment platforms, corporate pages, and websites. This means many job seekers, from entry-level to skilled ones, go straight to the source of job postings when they are actively looking for opportunities.

Legitimate job platforms like JobStreet have specialized filtering capacities for hirers and recruiters to use when looking for a candidate that requires certain skills and experience. Through this, not only is it convenient for hirers but also reliable when looking for a legitimate candidate. Before applicants can post their resume, it is scanned and scored by an Artificial Intelligence tool built upon millions of data points from the JobStreet platform. The AI tool has been vetted by real HR professionals, employers, and corporate leaders.

Additionally, JobStreet offers a consumable budget-based model that allows hirers to set a budget for a certain period of time. With the candidates engaging on the platform specifically for job-hunting purposes, hirers are assured that their boosted job posts are shown to the relevant target audience and converted to legitimate applications.

“As shown in our recent study, it is now a jobseekers’ market. With the changes in preferences and behaviors of our young workforce, we aim for our hirers to be fully equipped and future-ready when it comes to their recruitment practices, and that includes optimizing their resources and utilizing effective platforms that help them get quality talents,” said Kim Viray, JobStreet Philippines Head of Marketing.

JobStreet offers numerous benefits for employers to aid them through their recruitment process and lead them to make great hires. For newly registered hirers, JobStreet offers 30-day free job posting on their platform with access to over 14 million candidates, useful features on multiple channels (e.g. website and mobile app), easy-to-use job advertisement composer, powerful candidate management tools, and many more.

Under the campaign “Hire Real Talent”, the job platform also recently released a fun take on the use of social media in hiring candidates. Watch it here: https://www.facebook.com/JobStreetPhilippines/videos/1139168213385418/

JobStreet shares in-demand skills that will benefit jobseekers in 2023

The year 2023 is an interesting year for the job market, considering the evolving work environment and the growing demand for hybrid work setups. As hirers and employees transition to their most optimal work arrangement, this likewise requires candidates to upgrade their skills to stay competitive in the coming year.

With this, leading online job platform JobStreet by SEEK shares skills that will enable candidates to become future-ready, seek better opportunities, and put themselves at an advantage over other talents.

Digital literacy is critical

Hirers are more likely to look for jobseekers who are able to use and work with digital tools and devices. Therefore, candidates are encouraged to upgrade their digital skills since they are an integral part of business operations. Gaining essential digital skills opens a lot of opportunities. You can improve this by taking free digital courses, increasing your online presence, learning emerging digital platforms, and staying updated on tech trends, among others.

Adaptability is key

As businesses adjust to the changes brought by the pandemic, employees are also expected to become more adaptable, which allows them to efficiently embrace and deal with different situations at work.

According to JobStreet, hirers value candidates who are able to adapt to changes in processes and operations, modify plans when necessary, learn new tools and technologies, and welcome new roles and responsibilities.

“The world is so unpredictable, we learned that very well with the recent global pandemic that took us all by surprise. As industries evolve, it matters not who is the most skilled in the field, but more so, who can adapt quickly,” said JobStreet Philippines Country Manager Philip Gioca, “since trends and demands from different careers change over time, candidates who are in for the challenge and can pivot immediately have a great advantage.”

Refresh your interpersonal skills

The pandemic has impacted our social life, keeping us away from our friends and colleagues. With hybrid work becoming a trend among industries, jobseekers are encouraged to strengthen their interpersonal skills. This helps create meaningful and strong working relationships among colleagues as well as improves the productivity and morale of the entire team.

JobStreet advises candidates to start by embracing team assignments or projects, being active listeners with seniors and colleagues, and having empathy and support in every way possible to help them grow.

Multi-task efficiently

More often than not, performing several tasks simultaneously and successfully is a valuable skill sought by hirers. However, mastering how to multitask can be tricky when done the wrong way, especially for people who find it difficult to work in between tasks.

The coming year is an opportunity to step out of your comfort zone and enhance skills like multitasking. To practice this effectively, JobStreet suggests jobseekers to list down the tasks, identify the most urgent items, and focus on what’s most important at a time while keeping track of other tasks. Remember to not do multiple challenging tasks at once as it may lead to not accomplishing anything at all.

Master time management

Time management is also a major skill that contributes to productivity and is desired by many employers. Especially for a hybrid work setup, companies are looking for candidates who can efficiently manage their tasks and deliver quality work according to timelines. It helps to create your plan and organize your tasks for the day, and do not forget to give yourself scheduled breaks to minimize stress and fatigue.

“With hybrid working becoming normalized, we are expecting more hirers to look for talents who already have and are open to learning both hard and soft skills that are relevant to their industry. We hope to inspire more candidates to seek better opportunities by also acquiring new knowledge and improving their skill set,” shared JobStreet Philippines Country Manager Philip Gioca.

SEEK Asia, Tech In Asia concludes regional hybrid conference in Singapore, flies selected Filipino job seekers for free

JobStreet representatives and delegates at the Tech In Asia Conference
powered by JobStreet by SEEK in Marina Bay Sands, Singapore

Bringing forth workplace and employee advancement through collective efforts, technology news platform Tech In Asia in collaboration with JobStreet by SEEK recently concluded its regional hybrid conference with the theme Southeast Asia: Built to Last which took place in Singapore.

Joined by over 10,000 participants across Asia, the conference helped attendees navigate bear markets, inflation and other current global events by featuring valuable insights from various key opinion leaders as well as interactive activities. Three lucky Filipino candidates selected by JobStreet Philippines through a social media contest were also given the chance to experience an all-expenses-paid trip and hybrid event at Marina Bay Sands.

Apart from providing entertaining activities for participants through various games and booths, JobStreet by SEEK was also able to tackle the new priorities of today’s digital talent and how companies can understand these to attract better quality hires through a session led by SEEK Asia’s Careers and Connect Platform Chief Growth Officer Yuh Yng Chook.

Digital talents’ increased desire for flexibility

In her talk entitled SEEK Better: The secret to attracting tech talent and leading more fulfilling work lives, Chook shared that digital workers prioritize their flexibility when looking for a job and that this ultimately points back to the importance jobseekers place on maintaining their work-life balance. She added that managers can address these shifting preferences by acknowledging and praising their employees, while ensuring employee welfare.

“In Asia, it’s common for employees to go above and beyond in their roles—but a simple reassurance from their managers would go a long way in ensuring employee satisfaction in the long run,” she said.

This desire for flexibility among digital talents also extends to the geographic location of their employers, with 68% saying that they are willing to work remotely for an overseas company. The data also showed that employers headquartered in certain countries are more attractive than others, with digital talents preferring companies based in the US, followed by the UK, Australia, China and Singapore.

To engage with overseas digital talents, international companies are encouraged to invest in their employment branding to increase their exposure. Organic testimonials through social media platforms and other mediums would be beneficial for companies in the long run.

Digital talents’ investment in social and environmental issues

Chook also highlighted the growing interest of candidates on social and environment issues. Digital talents also care about what’s happening in the world, with more than 60% saying that issues related to diversity and inclusion and environmental responsibility became more important to them over the past year.

These values are urgent enough to today’s digital talents that they would exclude companies who don’t match their personal beliefs from their consideration. According to Chook, companies can respond to this by emphasizing their genuine environmental and social efforts as one of their highlights when recruiting for new talent.

Digital talents’ need for security and certainty

Apart from aforementioned matters, Chook said that digital talents also worry about their future, especially in a constantly changing and evolving tech industry, with 42% saying that they were increasingly concerned about the implications of future innovations to their work. This transition led many jobseekers to be flexible in their career expectations and invest in their skills through self-led and online learning materials.

In order to accommodate these, Chook believes that companies and organizations should consider providing digital employees with an allowance to spend for their courses and training. Not to mention giving employees the space and time they need for their learning as it also gives job seekers the opportunity for further career development.

“To employers, you need to understand the reasons that attract candidates to keep them content enough to stay. To employees, SEEK better. Don’t settle for a job that isn’t making you happy. We’re currently experiencing “The Great Job Boom” with plenty of job opportunities out there, and there has never been a better time to look for a new job and negotiate for better roles,” she added.

These insights align with SEEK’S newest campaign called “SEEK Better” that aims to help provide a wake-up call for employees who feel stuck in their jobs and encourage them to chase after more productive yet fulfilling work lives.

SEEK better talents with JobStreet’s latest job posting package for hirers

True to its commitment to supporting employers in their hiring needs, leading online job portal JobStreet by SEEK has unveiled its newest job posting package to provide flexibility in this ever-changing employment landscape.

JobStreet revamps its hirer consumption model that aims to build a fairer and more flexible career marketplace that benefits both employers and candidates, following the frequent demand for candidates due to subsequent resignations.

Furthermore, through the newest budget-based hirer package, employers will have access and freedom to choose various job post types depending on their needs and avail of larger discounts with better planning and result. Every job post will automatically be deducted from the consumable budget and the remaining balance is ready for use for their next posting whenever needed.

According to JobStreet, many companies are facing recruitment challenges in the new normal, one of which is the unpredictability of its hired talents.

“We’ve observed that hirers have been experiencing uncertainty when it comes to hiring talents–they don’t know which positions will be vacant or how many employees will leave the company,” JobStreet Philippines Marketing Head Kim Viray explained.

A recent study shows that 4.6 million workers quit their jobs with the Philippines experiencing a whopping 176% in voluntary resignation across all industries in a phenomenon called “The Great Resignation”.

“We recognize that hiring requirements are evolving based on industries, market trends, and supply and demand of jobseekers. Hence, we want to help our hirers have that flexibility that is suitable for when the need arises in order for them to SEEK better when it comes to their employees,” he added.

As the top preferred career platform, JobStreet currently has a large and diverse talent pool of over 14.6 million jobseekers in the Philippines. The portal also has an advanced matching capability to provide relevant applications for employers.

Interested applicants can also explore other vacancies for Project Development Officer, Accountant, Auditor, Executive Assistant, and Information Technology Officer, among others.

The Government Online Career Fair is also in celebration of the 122nd anniversary of civil service in the Philippines and will be joined by more than 120 government agencies including the Department of Health (DOH), Department of Environment and Natural Resource (DENR), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR), Commission on Elections (COMELEC), Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP), Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC), and many more.

“For two years since the pandemic, JobStreet and the Civil Service Commission have successfully helped Filipinos find government jobs through online channels. With many government jobs open for candidates, JobStreet by SEEK underscores that this is an opportune time for candidates, including fresh graduates, to establish a steady career progression and networking opportunities while finding a sense of purpose through helping the nation. Aside from convenient job applications, the event will also allow candidates to learn more from the webinars conducted by career experts throughout the duration of the job fair. Guest speakers will tackle topics related to working for a digital job, building a website, career in government, government job flexibility, among others,

Empowering the “lockdown generation”

In its third Government Online Career Fair with CSC, JobStreet by SEEK aims to help and empower fresh graduates who have been facing numerous labor market challenges due to the pandemic.

With more Filipinos still looking for jobs that fit their lifestyle and preference, stiff competition awaits fresh graduates as they enter the workforce, not to mention the returning experienced and even migrant workers. Moreover, young jobseekers in the Philippines face multiple labor market risks such as severe disruptions in education and training, low earnings, limited employment prospects, and magnified job search constraints—all on top of the need for digital tools and devices among employees to secure job opportunities.

“While digital tools and innovation can help continue education and upskilling and is an advantage for the youth, there's much more that is needed to be done for our country to catch up when it comes to internet access, speed, and affordability. The youth needs to be supported in their journey to having access to job opportunities,” shared JobStreet Philippines Head of Marketing Kim Viray.

JobStreet and CSC will be offering 2,000 on the GOCF platform, and roughly 20,000 on the JobStreet Philippines platform, open for fresh graduates nationwide.

JobStreet reveals workforce’s view on upskilling, launches “Job To Cart” event for easier job seeking amidst recovery

With the growing demand for new and relevant skills, leading online job portal JobStreet reveals key findings on the Filipino workforce’s view on reskilling, upskilling, and digital learning from their recent Decoding Global Talent Survey.

When it comes to upskilling, 77% of Filipino employees are willing to be retrained for a different job as needed, according to JobStreet’s Decoding Global Talent Survey released last May. This is even higher among blue-collar workers at 82%.

The growing number of workers who value upskilling or retraining and acquiring multiple skills can be attributed to the need for job security. As the pandemic has changed the work landscape, candidates are more willing to learn additional or new skills to be able to remain efficient in their jobs during the quarantine economy.

“Job roles are transforming faster than ever and both hirers and candidates must understand the need for upskilling for them to be more competitive and employable, respectively. Besides, it sustains a culture of learning in the workplace, hence improving overall productivity and resiliency at the time of crisis,” shared JobStreet Philippines Country Manager Philip Gioca.

The same survey reveals that Filipino workers’ learning preferences are still traditional with On-the-Job Training at 70% shown as the most preferred way of upskilling, followed by Self-study at 63%, and Conferences and Seminars at 56%.

Job resiliency

Aside from the number of employees who are willing to learn additional skills, the report also features higher-risk and lower-risk jobs in terms of resiliency due to automation.

JobStreet recommends for companies to build plans to expand the skills of their workers especially those in Customer Service, Service Sector, Administration and Secretariat, and Arts and Creative Work, which are at higher risk.

Meanwhile, employees in lower-risk jobs such as Management, Engineering and Technical, Science and Research, Law, Health and Medicine, Social Care, IT and Technology, and Digitalization and Automation are also recommended to upskill or be trained to stay relevant.

“We can see that automation has become a key factor in the workplace, so it is an advantage to learn digital skills regardless of your job role,” Gioca added.

Making job seeking easier amidst recovery

While economic recovery is on the horizon, JobStreet understands that applying for jobs remains a challenge among Filipino candidates. To help jobseekers, JobStreet’s “Job To Cart” online event is providing applicants with thousands of career opportunities nationwide.

Happening from July 26 to 30, “Job To Cart” gives participants a variety of career choices over its five day run, with applications done through easy-to-use chatbots and live chat features with participating employers.

Day 1 will be dedicated to Luzon-based jobs, then on Day 2, available positions from Visayas-Mindanao jobs will be added. Day 3 is launching entry-level jobs, while Day 4 introduces overseas opportunities, and Day 5 opens government support and services.

Candidates can also catch JobStreet’s Facebook Live Shows, featuring special musical guests Fighting Monday, Reese Lansangan, and The Juans. Guests will also talk about their experiences in job searching and working in an office. With the help of hosts Show Suzuki and Bea Constantino, JobStreet will also present job vacancies that are up for grabs through “Job To Cart” during the livestream.

“Job To Cart is an effort that aims to make applying for jobs a more entertaining activity just as how much we Filipinos enjoy online shopping. Hopefully, through this online event, we are able to help more candidates rebuild their careers and find a job that matters to them,” said Gioca.

Job seekers can pre-register now through http://jobstreet.com.ph/vcf-21

How to achieve work-life balance in the new normal

Working from home is here to stay for the foreseeable future as we all adapt to the changes brought by the new normal. While working remotely has many benefits, finding balance within your life and job can become more complicated. Consequently, this can take a considerable toll on your health and happiness—leaving you feeling burnt-out, overworked, and stressed.

There is an understandably more significant level of work-related stress for employees since the pandemic. According to the August 2020 Job Report of leading job portal JobStreet, over half (54%) of the respondents who are working from home said they created a separate workspace, while 48% are working longer hours, 43% changed the times they work, and lastly, 37% take on more household responsibilities themselves.

As an established job platform in the region, JobStreet aims to help jobseekers in all phases of their career. To learn how to achieve work-life balance in the new normal, here are a few tips from JobStreet.

Define your work-life boundaries

The boundaries between your personal and professional lives start to blur when you work from home. It is essential to know when to sign in and sign off. Set a fixed schedule for yourself. Having a structured plan for your tasks will help you focus your mind on what needs to be accomplished for the day.

Create a daily routine

Setting up a daily routine can help you to maintain work-life boundaries while working at home. This arrangement gives you the freedom to create your schedule and own it. Making regular and consistent daily patterns will help you lower your stress levels and increase your productivity from day-to-day.

Stay connected

With the current situation, you may not be able to socialize with friends and family as much, but this should not stop you from taking a break from work and connecting with people. Being socially connected while practicing social distancing can help you cope with stress. Positive social connections are essential to our mental and physical health. Focus on ways you can stay connected, both with yourself and others.

Create a dedicated workspace

Establish a dedicated area for work within your home to help you create a consistent routine for when it is time to work. This is essential to creating balance and making a clear division between your work and personal time. When creating your workspace, consider what type of environment you best operate. Having a dedicated workspace can reduce distractions and help you stay productive throughout the whole week.

Take regular breaks

Another way to help you adjust to working from home is by taking regular breaks throughout the day. Taking short breaks, even as fast as 10 minutes, will help keep you motivated and productive all day long. When your work is done, it is crucial to step away and leave your tasks and projects behind — know when it is time to relax and unwind.

Life is already challenging because of the pandemic, and it pays to look after ourselves and our lifestyle. It is essential to manage your work-from-home environment to create a better work-life balance to benefit your overall well-being.
