LBC empowers MSMEs with Php 80 Pasabog Promo for Cash on Pick-Up Transactions

As its way of empowering micro, small, and medium enterprises, LBC, the leading logistics service company in the Philippines, recently launched its Cash on Pick-up (COP) Php 80 Pasabog Promo. The increasing number of deliveries initiated by the flourishing eCommerce prompted LBC to offer a fixed rate of Php 80, which it will offer until Aug. 31, 2019.

LBC COP Php 80 Pasabog Promo is, so far, the courier service's most affordable offering to allow online sellers and buyers to do as many transactions as they can.

LBC has been the most reliable logistics company in the country and is synonymous with better service. People who want to assure that their parcels will arrive on time in its destination rely heavily on LBC's courier service. The rates have always been competitive, even the smallest businesses will be able to avail themselves of.

The flat rate of Php 80 is applicable to deliveries or shipments within the Philippines of up to 3 kilograms. Anything that exceeds the weight will have an additional fee, which is commensurate to the given fixed rate.

The LBC COP Php 80 flat-rate offer is applicable for the following LBC parcels and boxes: N-Pack Small, N-Pack Large, KB Mini, KB Slim, and KB Small. A minimum charge of Php 15 will be added as a valuation fee and may increase depending on the declared value of the shipment.

LBC continues to introduce innovations as its response to the changing business landscape in the country. Ecommerce has allowed individuals to operate businesses within the confines of their homes while buyers can purchase an item using the internet or through an app.

These developments not only gives MSMEs the opportunity to expand their livelihood but it also contributes to the economy.

LBC boasts 1,400 branches nationwide which also now serve as pick-up points especially in hard-to-reach areas where transportation is limited. With the introduction of "Kaliwaan System," buyers and sellers are assured of smooth and fast transactions. It eliminates the constant worry of whether the item was sent or received. This is one of the issues LBC's innovation is able to address.

LBC hopes to encourage more entrepreneurs to expand their business reach with COP Php 80 Pasabog Promo.

ARISE Philippines kickstarts new round of disaster resilience network initiatives

Members of ARISE Philippines gather for the 2019 Annual General Meeting held recently at the Mall of Asia Arena Annex Building in Pasay City. The AGM was led by ARISE global member & chairman of the executive committee of SM Prime Holdings Hans Sy (seated, center).

Representatives from both public and private sectors, including Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), and the SM Group, convened recently for the annual ARISE General Meeting held at the Mall of Asia Arena, Pasay City.

ARISE Philippines is a network of private companies that are united under the common objective of establishing innovative disaster resilience practices within organizations. This initiative supports the United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UNISDR),and the Sendai Framework. Sendai Framework is a 15-year, voluntary, non-binding agreement which recognizes the role of UN member countries to reduce disaster risk, and which should be shared with other stakeholdersincluding local governments and the private sector.

Through their membership with ARISE Philippines, companies from the private sector are enabled to build their own capacity and develop strategies in making their organizations resilient to disaster risk, by learning from subject matter experts and engaging in workshops that discuss best practices. In recent studies, the Philippines have been globally ranked as the third most vulnerable country, in terms of disaster and calamity.

The government sector was represented by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and Office of Civil Defense (OCD) National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC).

Director Susan Juangco delivered message from Undersecretary Ricardo Jalad, Executive Director of NDRRMC, “As private organizations begin to understand their roles in disaster risk reduction management, and actively collaborating with the public, the government’s vision for a disaster resilient nation is coming to its reality. We are here not to boost the self-interests of our organizations, but to attain our goal for our stakeholders and assure quality of life beyond disaster.”

Asst. Director of the Bureau of Small and Medium Enterprise Development of DTI, Alicia M. Opeña, added, “The MSME sector has a vital role in the welfare of our society as it serves as a proximity market or immediate provider of most goods and services, and we believe that integrating disaster risk reduction initiative in the MSME structures will ensure that businesses can continue to operate their core services even in the occurrence of an adverse situation.”

During the roundtable discussions, participants gained shared understanding of key performance indicators in each of the presented work themes, which are organizational initiatives that respond to preventive measures against disaster, and eventually develop a joint action plan to ensure progress in creating disaster resilient societies. Some of the key topics covered were disaster risk management strategies, education and training and urban risk reduction.

At the annual meeting, the vision of Hans T. Sy was reiterated, “As a member of ARISE, I encourage everyone to promote disaster preparedness and risk resiliency. We must continue to help each other in minimizing property damages and most especially inprotecting lives because disaster resilience is everybody’s business”.

Entrepreneur rebuilds business from the ashes with help from AXA - AXA Philippines customer, Kenneth So

In 2016, a fire in Benguet made headlines as it destroyed a warehouse—one that was owned by entrepreneur Kenneth So, and one that provided stable jobs for a lot of workers. So and his team, some of them very loyal employees that had been with him for a long time, could only watch as years of hard work went up in smoke in a matter of hours.

So was grateful that the insurance company he chose—AXA Philippines through its general insurance subsidiary Charter Ping An—swiftly came to his rescue and went the extra mile to process his claim promptly so he could get back on his feet as soon as possible.

So’s business, Granville Corporation Supply Holdings, is a strong player in the competitive supply chain industry. The company plays a key role in the logistics and distribution of fast moving consumer goods across key markets. So employs 400 people to ensure prompt servicing of customers

Entrepreneur rebuilds business from the ashes with help from AXA

The fire destroyed Grandville’s four-storey warehouse in La Trinidad, Benguet, and millions of pesos in inventory. Fortunately, So had the foresight to get a comprehensive fire insurance coverage from leading global insurer AXA. His loyal staff also rallied together during a truly trying time. The company is now slowly but surely recovering.

The ease and speed with which So was able to receive his insurance claims and the attentive and dedicated service he received from AXA helped ease his burden. “Now, our warehouse is being rebuilt,” So says. “This is the start of a new beginning.”

So’s experience with AXA is proof of AXA’s unwavering commitment to its customers, backed by superior financial strength and worldwide reach, to be there when it is most needed. It assures clients like So, whose employees and their families count on for their livelihood, can live the life he chooses—free from uncertainty and anxiety, no matter what challenges he has to face.

Shopee celebrates the success of Filipina entrepreneurs as more women take the leap into starting online businesses

This March, Shopee, the leading e-commerce platform in Southeast Asia and Taiwan, commemorates National Women’s Month by celebrating the success of Filipina entrepreneurs in the Philippines.

According to the Mastercard Index of Women Entrepreneurs (MIWE) 2018, opportunities for women to succeed in the Philippines are abound. The country ranks first in Women’s Advancement Outcomes with strong female representation in business leaders, and an equal inclination for both men and women to engage in entrepreneurial activity. In fact, the Philippines is one of only three countries worldwide where the number of established business owners among women is higher than that of men.

This growth in the number of female business leaders and entrepreneurs in the Philippines is mirrored in the growing e-commerce scene, as more women opt to start their own businesses online. In 2017, Shopee saw a 158% increase in the number of female sellers on boarded compared to 2016. Of the female sellers on boarded last year, 50% are Preferred Sellers - a title given to sellers who have attained commendable shop ratings and have displayed excellent customer service.

“We are proud to recognize and celebrate the success of Filipina entrepreneurs who have displayed outstanding business acumen and strength of character. Shopee remains committed to supporting local entrepreneurs in the Philippines, and we look forward to seeing more women take the step towards entrepreneurship by building their businesses online,” Agatha Soh, Head of Regional Marketing of Shopee.

In celebration of Filipina entrepreneurs in the month of March, Shopee presents the stories of 3 inspiring women who chose e-commerce as a way to delve into entrepreneurship and build a successful career.

Rhea Kristine Dumo
(Martipaps Gift Shop - https://shopee.ph/martipapsgiftshop)

For Shopee seller Rhea Kristine Dumo, a small capital did not deter her from starting an online business. With just P2,000, Dumo started her online store and managed the business on her own - from sourcing products, to coordinating with buyers and packing orders - all while taking care of her daughter as a stay-at-home mom. By selling a variety of toys and gifts for children, Dumo was able to buy her own house at the age of 28, and more importantly, spend more time with her daughter. “That’s one thing that money can’t buy but Shopee can give - freedom to manage my own time.” said Dumo. Rhea now employs five full-time employees and two part-time student employees to manage Martipaps Gift Shop.

Arcel Monnnette Mangubat
(Arcelmangubat - https://shopee.ph/arcelmangubat)

25-year-old Arcel Monnette Mangubat chose to sell online as a way for her to pay for her wedding, start a family and attain long-term financial stability. As a first-time entrepreneur, Mangubat chose to start her business selling women’s apparel on an e-commerce platform in order to reach a greater number of customers and easily scale up her business. “The convenience and security provided by Shopee, along with its large customer base, allowed us to grow the business and eventually buy a motorcycle, build a house, and fund our wedding. We are very thankful for Shopee,” said Mangubat.

Melanie Sta. Maria
(Makeupholics - https://shopee.ph/makeupholics)

Owner of the Shopee shop Makeupholics, Melanie Sta. Maria, witnessed key improvements in her business since she joining the platform in 2015. Already an established seller on other online platforms, Melanie joined Shopee to take advantage of the in-app logistics system to easily manage her inventories and marketing campaigns. With around 1,200 orders per month, Melanie successfully grew her business and was able to comfortably provide for her family. “Not only has Shopee provided me with a secure platform to grow my business, it has also helped me achieve my dream of purchasing a car for my family.” Sta. Maria shared.

Franchisers optimistic on entrep growth under new admin

The Association of Filipino Franchisers, Inc. (AFFI) has expressed big hopes for entrepreneurs after hearing President-elect Rodrigo Duterte’s plans for the sector over the last few days.

Duterte has bared his 8-point economic agenda, which his administration plans to implement once he officially assumes office. He has also vowed to end red tape and corruption in the government to fast-track business processing, promising to cut business registration to only three days.

Ricardo Cuna

“We’ve been hoping to hear something like this from our would-be leader even before the elections,” says AFFI Executive Vice President Ricardo Cuna.

“We’re ranked pretty low in terms of ease of doing business here in the country, and that’s primarily because of our current entrepreneurial ecosystem. I think most of us in the industry agree that it’s the first thing we need to improve.”

Cuna cited the latest World Bank Group’s Doing Business 2016 report, where the Philippines ranked 103rd out of 189 economies with regard to “processing business permits and registrations”. It also came 6th place among its ASEAN counterparts, with Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Brunei, and Vietnam outranking the country for the first five slots.

“This situation is one of the factors that slows down the growth of entrepreneurship in the country. Hearing directly from President-elect Duterte that he plans to focus on resolving that gives us confidence that this will all change soon,” mused Cuna.

‘Strike while the iron is hot’

The business community is waiting to hear more of Duterte’s economic plans since his posting a landslide victory last May 9.

Armando “Butz” Bartolome
“Our economy has been tremendously growing these past few years, and it isn’t showing any sign of slowing down. We’re on a tight race here. We have to strike while the iron is hot. That’s why we want to learn more of what he intends to do so we could also act and do our part,” argues Franchise Guru Armando “Butz” Bartolome, one of AFFI’s founders and current Chairman of the Board of Directors.

Bartolome said the next administration’s primary steps are crucial in maintaining and increasing the country's momentum. He praised Duterte for taking cue from the Aquino administration and continuing some of the healthier economic policies the latter has made throughout his time in office.

“There’s no shame in continuing what has been proven beneficial for the nation,” stressed Bartolome. “What the incoming administration should do, however, is to throw in improvements on these reforms and accelerate implementation of programs for the economy and the entire entrepreneurial community.”

We narrowed down the 10 winning tips which could help mompreneurs re-discover their passion on top of being an active mom and successful homemaker:

1) Pay yourself first. It should not be less than one-tenth, no matter how little you earn;

2) Get only in a business you understand. Seek advice from competent people;

3) Make your gold work for you. Make an army of golden slaves before you buy luxury;

4) Manage your time. Schedule meetings so that you can spend quality time with the family. Drop everything for your family;

5) Make financing a family affair. Teach your children how to save money at an early age;

6) Eliminate guilt. Don't feel guilty leaving your kids at home with their yayas. If you do, you will not go anywhere and you will not progress;

7) Get yourself support system. You just cannot do things on your own. When you want to achieve a lot of things, you need the help of other people;

8) Have a work system. Having a schedule and a rhythm will allow you to keep sane despite the craziness, routine, and pressure around;

9) Quality not Quantity. It's not about spending day-in and day-out with your kids. You can tell there's quality time if your kids are really enjoying;

10) Create your own happiness. Discuss or plan new ways with your family that will keep everyone simply happy!

Qualcomm Incorporated, through its Qualcomm® Wireless ReachTM initiative, joined Hapinoy, a Filipino-based social enterprise that has developed programs for small, neighborhood convenience stores in the Philippines, in an effort to provide female micro-entrepreneurs the opportunity to generate additional income and provide financial services to their communities. Through the collaboration, micro-business owners are supplied with mobile literacy training, access to capital via microfinance institutions (MFIs), and technology through mobile money operators and technology developers.

Worldwide, 2.5 billion people lack access to financial services such as banks and credit cards, making it difficult for them to make payments and transfer money1.

The Hapinoy Mobile Money Hub project supports micro-entrepreneurs who own and operate mostly home-based stores, known as sari-sari stores. Since its inception, 3,000 of these store owners in the Philippines, mostly mothers (“Nanays” in Tagalog) have been trained by this program.

Aside from not having the know-how to run the systems and technology, the majority of these Nanays can’t afford a point-of-sale-device or card reader, and 37 percent of municipalities in the Philippines lack banking offices2. However, most shop owners do own mobile devices, which they use for basic communications and selling airtime.

Launched in 2013, the Hapinoy project began with a focus on educating these micro-business owners on how they can use mobile technology to expand their business. Now, by collaborating with Qualcomm Wireless Reach, MasterCard, Smart and Grameen Foundation, Hapinoy sari-sari owners are able to use dual-sim smartphones powered by Qualcomm® SnapdragonTM 200 processors to access mobile financial services such as mobile money, remittances, and bill and loan payments. The Snapdragon 200 processor is a product of Qualcomm Technologies Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated.

In addition, storeowners are able to use the Hapinoy Agent Network to sell airtime and offer new financial services to their communities. These storeowners also play an integral role in helping their communities better understand the use and benefits of mobile money accounts.

For these communities, this advanced wireless solution not only increases traffic and revenue for the sari-sari stores, but it also contributes to community growth and allows these Mobile Money Hubs to serve as potential branches for banks, MFIs and other remittance providers.

The Mobile Money Hub program demonstrates the impact that wireless technology can have on communities beyond communication, and the possibility for mobile devices to serve as a means

The 1st International Business Summit on Mindanao

First International Business Summit on Mindanao, the frontrunner summit on Mindanao to be held at The Manila Hotel on June 28, 2014 as marks a significant milestone in the history of Mindanao as business leaders all over the world.

In line with the vision "RESTORE THE LOST GLORY OF MINDANAO", the summit aims to showcase Mindanao to the world business community and to encourage global investors as well as businessmen to personally interact with local community leaders and entrepreneurs.

Trade from here and abroad will attend the 1st International Business Summit on Mindanao. Shariff Ibrahim Albani, head of summit organizer Unity for Revival Foundation, said delegates from Saudi Arabia, Dubai, Japan, China, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Indonesia and European countries led by Russia are attending the summit along with some 500 local leaders, including governors, mayors and lawmakers from Mindanao.

The panelists to the summit will include, but not limited to, persons and entities which have more than enough exposure and experiences about Mindanao and have plans of further improving the overall development of the region.

Mindanao, with its rich mineral resources, ecological value, human talents and skills, and economic potentials was, in the past, regarded as one of the richest regions not only in the Philippines, but in the whole world.

The recent signing of the much awaited and historic Bangsamoro Agreement has tremendously enhanced the investment climate of Mindanao and has paved the way both for domestic and international investors, businessmen and entrepreneurs.

Events changed the prosperity once enjoyed by Mindanao and its people. Diversities led to divisions and the unity of the people of Mindanao in the past was disrupted by selfish motives. Business was corrupted by the desire to make profits in dishonorable ways and means. The rich became richer and the poor became poorer.

However, recent events have altered this unwanted environment. With globalization, Mindanao has started to change for the better. Mindanao is now stable and ready to cultivate and nourish intensive and harmonious business links and investment tie-ups with the global community.

Summit organizer, Unity For Revival Foundation (URF) Chairman Shariff Ibrahim Albani is confident that, with the active and productive participation of various sectors in the summit, bright and achievable ideas will emerge to make Mindanao PROGRESSIVE AND UNITED ONCE AGAIN.
