One K Global campaign : 2017 Global Peace Concert at SM Mall of Asia Arena

Civic-led campaign for Korean reunification, a development that could help promote regional stability and build a new economic powerhouse in Asia.

The One K Global Campaign’s current efforts to gain international support, including the One K Global Concert Global Tour, whose Manila leg is happening on March 2, 2017 at The Mall of Asia Arena.

United Korea an impossible dream? Mounting tensions won’t quash civic movement’s hopes of a unified Korea.

Despite on-going hostilities and unrelenting North Korean nuclear aggression, a civic-led movement continues to voice stronger calls for an end to the post-war schism that persisted in the Korean peninsula for more than 70 years.

Known as the One K Global campaign, this civic movement is taking its campaign to a global level as a means of rallying international support for Korean unificiation.

Action for Korea United (AKU) Co-Chairman In-teck Seo

“Unifying Korea is about forging long-term peace and creating new opportunities in the peninsula, East Asia, and throughout the world. Bringing the two Koreas back together would be tough but we can and should make it happen,” said Action for Korea United (AKU) Co-Chairman In-teck Seo.

The AUK, a coalition of 850 Korean NGOs, partnered with the Global Peace Foundation Korea in launching the campaign last year during a conference on Korean reunification.

Threats to global stability

The division of the Korean peninsula traces its beginnings to the end of World War II and the outbreak of the Korean War, which caused the deaths of more than 2.5 million people, the separation of more than 10 million individuals from their families, and the suffering of more than 25 million Koreans under a repressive regime.

In a press briefing held at Manila, Seo explained that the continuing division aggravates North Korea’s nuclear prorgam, which he called the biggest threat to peace and prosperity worldwide.

Seo added that the conflict blocks opportunities for economic growth such as the creation of a tunnel that could link North America to Asia, a development which could help boost trade and other economic activities in the two continents.

For the One K Global Campaign, the best possible way to end these dire scenarios is to realize the “One Korea” dream.

Korean music making waves for peace

To make the “One Korea” vision a reality, the One K Global Campaign taps on the sweeping effects of hallyu or the Korean wave, which saw K-Pop music as a global phenomenon that the Internet helped create.
“We are taking our efforts to the international scene and we are proud to be working with artists who are helping us spread the message through their music,” Seo said.
In 2015, more than 30 K-pop artists supported the One K concert at the Seoul World Cup Stadium. The concert featured the unification song, “One Dream, One Korea,” which earned more than 13 million new YouTube impressions from over 200 countries.

The campaign plans to go global this year with another song like the United Support of Artists for Africa’s 1985 hit “We Are the World.” Grammy Winners Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis will help compose the new anthem of the unification campaign.

A concert tour promoting the campaign is also scheduled to take place in countries like China, US, and Russia. The concert tour’s Manila leg is happening on March 2 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.

Asia's biggest superstar Lee Min Ho in "Gangnam Blues"

Korean's  biggest superstar Lee Min Ho now proves that he is more than just a pretty face in "Gangnam Blues." In an action and drama role, something that fans used to loving him in romance comedy and action roles will be pleasantly surprised to see — and love Min-ho all the more.

Lee Min Ho is a superstar in the hearts of Filipino fans, with his hit Koreanovelas like Boys Over Flowers (2009), the breakthrough tele-drama that won him several awards including Best New Actor at the 45th Baeksang Arts Awards; City Hunter (2011) for which he was honored as Most Popular Actor at the 48th Baeksang Arts Awards and Outstanding Korean Actor at the 7th Seoul International Drama Awards; The Heirs (2013) for which he earned a nomination for Most Popular Actor at the 50th Baeksang Arts Awards; and Faith, which recently aired on ABS-CBN. He has released two albums, My Everything in 2013 and Song For You in 2014.
]

Gangnam Blues, directed by the iconic Yoo Ha, is the third part of his Gangnam Trilogy. The stories of these movies revolve around Gangnam, the street and the youth.

In Gangnam, the southern part of Seoul, during the height of political corruption, Gangnam Blues is an action "gangster noir" that tells the story of different political organization's clash. The movie has been described as a "gangster noir" set in the 1970s, when Seoul’s Gangnam district was still under development and “political powers and darker organizations collide as they seek to grab control of the influential and exclusive area. During the 70s, Gangnam was being transformed from a vast agricultural area into the modern hub that it is now.

Min-ho and co-star Kim Rae-won play orphans in a slum area, growing up like brothers. When their homes are bulldozed, they get separated, only to meet again years later as heads of rival gangs hired by powerful groups fighting over dominance of Gangnam.

It has scenes reminiscent of Coppola’s The Godfather. Watch this different movie this Wednesday, March 4, released in Tagalized version by Viva Films.

The movie is directed by Yoo Ha. Lee Min Ho plays the character of Kim Jong Dae, who gets caught up in the power struggles and ends up in a battle against his childhood friend and he treated as his brother Yong Ki, played by Kim Rae Won.

We heard this classic hit over and over again, Freddie Aguilar’s OPM classic “Anak” was used in the trailer of Korean superstar Lee Min Ho’s latest movie Gangnam 1970,” which was also titled “Gangnam Blues.”

Anak is played whole twice (the original version), first in the series of scenes showing Min-ho and his gang demolishing their rivals with a haul of bullets) and in the end as the credits roll.

SineAsia Theater is the first Asian tagalized theatre in the country and Lee Min Ho’s Gangnam Blues film is the official grand attraction for the theater’s grand launch and it's red carpet premiere this Tuesday,  March 3 held at the SM Megamall.

The secret garden - Biwon Korean Restaurant

Last two years ago, I had pleasured  dined  in a Korean restaurant somewhere in Greenhills. But lately,  I am so happy and thankful that I was invited to have lunch in a new Korean restaurant in Edsa Extension,  Pasay City – the Biwon Korean Restaurant.
Here in the Philippines, we are lucky to have a Biwon Korean restaurant which is something different from others , so great and I love their style of cooking, especially where they cook on your table.

Here, in Biwon , means " the secret garden." Nice food in a pleasant setting. When I’m inside the simple and very nice place, there were many food on the table. The only Korean food I'm aware of and keep thinking we should try to have is kimchi (which I always had.) But here, I never seen such a large assortment of ban chan in my life. Each dish looks really yummy and special.

For the  starters. I think that’s one of the  best part of the meal!

I love to eat vegetable salad, but this is something !

Sliced Liempo w/ special Korean sauce and fresh vegetables
Korea's classic Kimchi
Sweet and Spicy Pork
Jap Chae (Php 320)
Bulgogi (Php 300) – the meat was cooked right at the table on a smokeless grill

Wookojitang Stew Soup /Beef Stew Soup  (Php 290)
Korean Pancake! Haemol Jeon (Authentic Korean Pancake) (Php 370)
Korean pancakes, which confused me for a moment. But as I tasted it,  with seafood and spring onions,  all tasty and squishy. That was  a very fine meal, with the pancakes as a definite highlight.

Having coffee after being full...with a really delicious meal!

I really enjoyed the Biwon experience. This is really a good time! What an awesome feast we had here! I’ll definitely go back - with my family. I recommend this place to everyone wanting delicious excellent food and quick friendly service, with happy and welcoming atmosphere.

The Korean Chef and Ms. Tina Hong-Garcia.
We have a great time chatting with the owner and talking about the Korean foods that they introduced to us.
