Papal Coverage in Smart Araneta Coliseum

The much-awaited event in the Christendom is set to happen this January, as Pope Francis conducts his first-ever apostolic visit to the country.

It is a chance to keep abreast of Pope Francis’ Papal visit to the country, LIVE on big screen.

To celebrate this global event, The Araneta Center, together with official media partner TV5, invites everyone to an exclusive coverage of the papal visit at The Smart Araneta Coliseum from January 16 to January 18, 2015. The event starts at 9 am until 1 pm, but gates will open as early as 7 in the morning.

The papal streaming gives viewers the opportunity to vicariously share in Pope Francis’ meaningful journey through the Philippines, which will become the 3rd Asian country the Pope visits this year as head of the Catholic Church, after Sri Lanka and South Korea.

Also featured in the event is the “Tu Es Petrus Tour of Papal Relics”. Petrus is a Latin derivation of the name Peter that refers to all the Pope successors in the Catholic Church.

These relics include not only the mortal remains of the Popes who previously visited the country, bearing the title of “Saint” or “Blessed”, but also some of the things they touched or used. These were all authenticated and recognized by the Church, thus highly esteemed and valued for their sacredness.

Present in the exhibit are first and second class relics, from major to minor kinds, including blood stains, hair strands, and skull cap of Pope John Paul II, as well as the sacred zucchetto of Pope Francis and Pope Benedict XVI.

This once-in-a-lifetime experience is in line with The Araneta Center’s public service efforts and genuine desire to fulfill its corporate social responsibility.

Admission is absolutely free! Tickets are now available in Gateway, Ali Mall and Farmers Plaza concierge. T-shirts will also be given away to participants for free to serve as memento of the said event.

The relics are also available for viewing at the Gateway Activity Center from January 19 to January 31, 2015.

Disney On Ice presents Dare to Dream takes adventure to new lengths with magical moments from Disney’s newest fairytales and timeless classics

On its 24th year in the Philippines, Disney on Ice continues to enchant Filipino audiences with its newest ice spectacle, Dare to Dream.

Disney’s most beloved princesses—Rapunzel, Snow White, Cinderella and Princesss Tiana hit the ice and take viewers on a magical, inspiring journey.

Feld Entertainment’s newest Disney On Ice production is a celebration of royal proportions featuring Tangled, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, The Princess and the Frog and Cinderella

The much-awaited Disney on Ice season is back at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on December 25 to January 4!

This year, Pinoys are invited to join Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald and Goofy as they follow four of Disney’s most inspirational princesses on their adventures to fulfill their dreams in Feld Entertainment’s newest ice spectacular, Disney On Ice presents Dare to Dream. Combining the contemporary stories of two modern-day princesses, Rapunzel and Tiana, with the classic elegance of Cinderella and Snow White, Dare to Dream whisks audiences away on exciting journeys where dreams really do come true.

Audiences begin their magical, musical voyage in New Orleans celebrating the story of The Princess and the Frog with Princess Tiana and Prince Naveen, and then escape into the enchanted forest with Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. The trip continues to Cinderella’s kingdom in her search for true love and follows Rapunzel as she discovers the world beyond her tower on her quest to see the floating lanterns. The Disney Princesses then come together for the first time on ice during the finale, to welcome Rapunzel into their royal court in the ultimate princess experience.

“There’s something within each of the stories of Tangled, The Princess and the Frog, Cinderella, and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs that speaks to women and girls and families around the world,” says Producer Nicole Feld. “Each of these princesses is searching for what truly makes them happy. And I think that’s very reflective of what audiences are like today.”

“This show is different from anything we’ve ever done, and we’re excitedabout all the exhilarating aspects we’ve included in this production,” says Producer Juliette Feld. “This is the first time Rapunzel is featured on the ice with her tremendous amount of hair. And new this year, the Princess who started it all, Snow White, will be joining the show with the Seven Dwarfs, bringing more magic than ever before.”

Disney’s Tangled

In adapting Tangled to the ice for the first time, Director Patty Vincent was challenged with how to convey all of Rapunzel’s hair without interfering with the skating. During the segment, 2,000 feet of silk representing Rapunzel’s magical, golden tresses winds throughout the rafters of the arena and drapes down to the ice for use in a heart-stopping aerial act never before seen in a Disney On Iceproduction. Rapunzel and Flynn Rider escape the tower, flying 25 feet up in the air and performing daring acrobatics.

“The performers trained for six weeks just to build their upper body strength, because skaters use very different muscles when ice skating,” says Vincent. “It works perfectly on the ice because they don’t have to run; they just skate, and they’re lifted into the air and begin a gorgeous athletic act.”

Under the direction of Choreographer Cindy Stuart and Aerial Trainer Anna Kaminnik, the performers mastered the blend of ice and aerial choreography in which Rapunzel and Flynn fly above the arena floor and slowly descend to the ice in a fluid motion, creating a feeling of constant movement.

Stuart was able to contrast the beauty of the aerial act by showcasing the athleticism of the skaters when Rapunzel and Flynnstop at the Snuggly Duckling tavernon their way to see the lanterns.During this energetic sequence, the pub thugs break into a rowdy show tune medley, and the scene turns into a trick section with performers doing cartwheels, handstands, jumps and leaps on the ice and the props.

The adventurous nature of Rapunzel’s story allowed Costume Designer Ivan Ingermann to incorporate unusual fabrics and silhouettes into his costumes. Rapunzel’s world is mainly full of rich colors and textures and romantic silhouettes. However, during the Snuggly Duckling segment, Ingermann designed costumes for the pub thugs using faux fur and faux leather, materials not normally seen in an ice show.

Another distinctive design element ofDare to Dream is the revolving set, an idea conceived by Scenic Designer Stan Meyer. By designing a rotating piecethat transforms to specifically fit each of the unique settings of the stories, Meyer was able to create one major centerpiece with four entirely different environments. When the set morphs into Rapunzel’s forest, a paneled backdrop of pastel flora and butterflies opens and a majestic tower slowly emerges, rising from the ice as golden hair falls from the window.

Lighting Designer Peter Morse incorporated these same pastels and royal colors by surrounding the audience in rich shades of purple, a prominent color in Rapunzel’s world. When Rapunzel and Flynn Rider finally reach the end of their journey, the entire arena goes dark as a single lantern slowly floats up into the air, and suddenly, lanterns illuminate the sky above the audience.

“When we create Disney On Ice, what we’re hoping to do, aside from bringing families together and telling great stories, is create memorable moments,” says Producer Kenneth Feld. “In the Tangledsequence, there is one moment that is absolutely unforgettable. At every show, one special child is picked to launch the first lantern. All you see is the one lantern that goes up, and as soon as it reaches the top, all the other lanterns light up the arena. It’s breathtaking.”

Walt Disney’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

In contrast to the colorful and playful world of Rapunzel, to set the mood for the story of Snow White, the lighting had to take on a darker and more mysterious quality. As the story begins, the lighting dims and a thin layer of fog fills the ice. Soon a flash of light and dark shadows appear signaling the arrival of the Evil Queen.

When it comes time for Snow White to flee into the magical forest for protection from the Queen, Morse focused on the use of black lights to highlight her frantic pace. As she finallyescapes the forest and arrives at the door of the Dwarf’s cottage, the ice is bathed in rich golden colors, signaling the calm after the storm and her newfound safety.

Being the Princess who started it all, the costume design for Snow White is a classic silhouette that will be easily recognizable by audiences young and old. The traditional yellow and blue dress was made for swift, yet graceful, movement on the ice, twirling and flowing as Snow Whiteglides through her world.

Audiences will also be delighted to see all Seven Dwarfs make an appearance in Dare to Dream, each outfit as uniqueas the Dwarf wearing it.

Walt Disney’s Cinderella

As the story shifts to the romantic tale of Cinderella, a glittering purple and blue castle stands majestically in the background with a white and gold grand butterfly staircase framing the clock tower. Cinderella is joined by ball attendants regally dressed in bright, colorful gowns sparkling with the help of sequins and glitter. Below the castle, glisteningstars and swirls of soft blues and pinks fill the ice when Cinderella skates to classic songs such as “So This is Love” and “A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes.”

In addition to the pair skating and elegant ice dancing showcased in Dare to Dream, Cinderella features synchronized skatingby a team of 20 performers portraying the palace guards searching for the owner of the glass slipper. More than half the cast performs this fast-paced and complex precision number, creating lines, formations and constantly moving patterns on the ice.

Light-heartedelements throughout the segment provide a contrast from the romanticism and precision of many of the scenes. Cinderella’s mice friends make an appearance singing and dancing while they make her a dressfor the ball. Cinderella’s stepsisters are on hand as well, amusing the audience with their comical antics.

Lighting plays an important role in telling Cinderella’s story, and a key component of the lighting design is the ability to feature the skaters themselves. “We have to light the whole scene to keep it bright and beautiful,” says Morse, “while also highlighting the characters.”

With a swish of her magic wand, a flash of light and those three little words, the Fairy Godmother transforms Cinderella beforethe ball. From a cloud of smoke, a sparkling carriage emerges, drawn by four white horses and glistening like a crystal ball in the darkness, creating a magical moment as Cinderella rides toward the castle. Later, as Prince Charming and the Duke ponder the identity of the beautiful girl from the ball, the ice is dark, save for the moonlight streaming through tall windows on either side of the ice and forming a dark hallway between them, an illusion created by gobos and spotlights.

Disney’s The Princess and the Frog

Popular color palettes and designs from the Harlem Renaissance became a major source of inspiration for The Princess and the Frog. When Dare to Dream opens in New Orleans, vibrant orange and golden yellow light fills the arena, matching the bright colors of the costumes inspired by the period. Set against a French Quarter backdrop painted in rich reds, purples and greens, flappers and banjo players revel on a balcony while page boys and other townsfolk dance on the ice below, creating a multilayered street party. The opening number, “When the Saints go Marching In,” combines jazz-influenced choreography and the Charleston to create a vivid and energetic street scene.

Disney On Ice presents Dare to Dream seamlessly merges the classic with the new, maintaining the timelessness of some of the most cherished stories of all time, Cinderella and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, while also incorporating popular songs and unforgettable scenes from Disney’s newest fairytales, Tangled and The Princess and the Frog. From the lighting and scenery to the music, choreography and costumes, each element of Disney On Ice presents Dare to Dream magically combines to create a memorable show for the entire family.

Christina Perri , The Head or Heart Tour - Live in Manila 2015

In matters of love, should you rely on your heart or your head? This is the question Christina Perri posed as she began writing her second album, a collection of cathartic songs that seek to reconcile how we make decisions in love and life.

Midas Promotions are proud to announce that Christina Perri will be performing at Smart Araneta Coliseum on March 5th 2015!

The singer’s first album, lovestrong., grappled with the aftermath of a breakup, signaling Perri as an honest, genuine artist ready to share her emotional journey with her fans. That disc, released in 2011, was bolstered by the success of Perri’s single “Jar of Hearts” and led the musician into nine tours over 27 months. Her final show supporting lovestrong. took place on October 9, 2012 at Los Angeles’s iconic Hollywood Bowl with Jason Mraz. Two weeks later, Perri penned the first song for head or heart, her second album.

“The thing about me is that I don’t know how not to write,” Perri says. “Because I continue to fall in and out of love, I find myself often at those massive highs and lows. I wrote ideas for album two but I never called it album two. Those were songs that were getting me through tour. But when I came home I wrote a song called ‘Trust’ and I had an epiphany. I’ve tried trusting my heart, I’ve tried trusting my head and I feel as though I’ve chosen wrong each time. I knew the album had to be called head or heart and half the songs would be heart songs and half would be head songs. That was the moment when it began for creatively and conceptually.”

Perri spent two months writing and demoing on her own toward the end of 2012 before spending several months in early 2013 writing with nearly 30 co-writers. She said yes to any collaboration, refusing to get in her own creative way (“I wanted to play a game called ‘Yes,’ the singer explains). Perri emerged from these ongoing sessions in Spring with nearly 50 possible songs for head or heart. The musician knew immediately which to take into the studio, mostly because instinctually she knew which songs fit together to create the overall picture she wanted the album to paint. A big factor in the song selection was also a concern for how they would translate onstage, particularly since Perri toured so extensively on her debut.

The singer chose 16 to record and flew to London to meet with producer Jake Gosling (Ed Sheeran). Perri initially intended to lay down one track with Gosling, but ended up staying at his farm in Bagshot, U.K. for the summer to record in his “tiny shack of a studio.” The pair crafted nine of the album’s 13 songs together and finished recording back in Los Angeles in August. There Perri also recorded with Butch Walker, John Hill and Martin Johnson. Her final number, “I Don’t Want to Break,” was co-written with fun.’s Jack Antonoff, who co-produced the track with Hill in New York at famed Electric Lady Studios.

The album opens with “Trust,” a searching, evocative number that poses the album’s ultimate question. For Perri, “trust” is the question and all the songs that follow are her possible answers. The haunting, propulsive “Sea of Lovers” began as a poem that Perri transformed into a song while “Human,” the album’s buoyant first single, surges with inspirational urgency. head or heart closes with sincere poignancy, on a track called “I Believe” that Perri wrote for an event thrown by charity To Write Love On Her Arms. The song, largely based around affirmations, went viral after her performance at the event and wrote itself onto the album. The song – and the album itself – aptly concludes with the line “This is not the end of me/This is just the beginning.”

“I knew the only way to make my second album work was to tell the truth,” Perri says. “I’m not pretending I’ve figured it out. I’m bringing everyone along for the journey of my heart and my head and these songs are what happened, but I don’t know the way to trust both. I think that’s the answer – to trust both – but I haven’t figured out how to do that yet. The way I’ve stayed authentic is by being completely honest. The healing for me comes from playing songs live. There are stitches that don’t get stitched until I do that. I look forward to seeing what these songs do emotionally for me in the next few years.”

These songs, in many ways, feel like a logical extension of lovestrong., an album that first allowed Perri to open her heart to the world. The singer’s career bounded forward after Perri performed her triple-platinum single “Jar of Hearts” on So You Think You Can Dance. She quickly found herself signed to Atlantic Records, creating her debut album, a bittersweet collection of songs about love and loss thereof. Produced by GRAMMY®-winning producer Joe Chiccarelli (The White Stripes, My Morning Jacket) – lovestrong. entered the SoundScan/Billboard 200 among the top 5 upon its initial release, while also proving an unqualified international sensation with top 5 success in Australia and Ireland as well as top 10 sales in Canada and the United Kingdom. Perri was named as iTunes’ “Breakthrough Pop Artist of 2011.” This was followed by the 4x-platinum single “A Thousand Years” which was featured on Summit Entertainment/Chop Shop/Atlantic’s
The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn –Part 1&2-Original Motion Picture Soundtracks.

It was a whirlwind and it’s brought Perri to where she is now. The singer has embraced the platform success brings and spends any possible moment involved with several nonprofit and charity organizations. She remains deeply involved with To Write Love On Her Arms, which helps people dealing with suicidal thoughts, and visits children’s hospitals to spend time with kids grappling with depression. She’s also on the board of the Voice Health Institute, an organization she became involved with after going through vocal chord surgery in 2011.

head or heart asks a question and offers a possible responses to that query. It seeks to understand the reality of love and how we process it. It contains thoughts we’ve all thought, articulated more clearly in Perri’s strikingly compelling music and powerhouse vocals. For Perri, this album reflects where she is right now, what she’s experiencing in the present and resonates with her genuine truth. Mostly, though, it opens her to the chapter.

“All my dreams came true when touring on lovestrong.,” the singer says. “And now I’ve dreamt up all new dreams. I’m excited most because I don’t know what’s going to happen. Three years ago I was working at a café so who knows where I’ll be in three more years. I have this album and everything else is a surprise.”

Sergio Mendes returns to Manila for a live concert at the Smart Araneta on Nov. 15

The catchy and delightful sound that instantly stirs listeners to sing, sway and swoon to its beat will sweep the local concert scene when bossa nova legend Sergio Mendes returns to Manila with his band for a live concert on Saturday, November 15, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Cubao, Quezon City.

The Big Dome show will kick off the two-city tour dubbed “Sergio Mendes & Brasil 2014 Live In Manila!” that will end with another concert on November 16 at the Waterfront Hotel Cebu. To be featured in the shows is Joe Pizzulo.

To be mounted by Ovation Productions, the musical event will spotlight the bossa nova sensation from Brazil as he showcases his wonderful and easy-listening sound and style that made him the most popular musician in South America and an international star in the past fifty years.

Mendes will take concert-goers through a breathtaking array of hits, such as “Mas Que Nada”, “Magalenha”, “One Nation”, “Timeless”, “What Do We Mean To Each Other”, “For Me,” “Night And Day”, “The Look Of Love”, “Fool On The Hill”, “Timeless”, “Scarborough Fair”, “Pretty World”, “Never Gonna Let You Go”, “Funky Bahia”, “Chorado”, and “What The World Needs Now”.

His other hit songs are “The Trouble With Hello Is Goodbye,” “Don’t You Worry ‘Bout A Thing”, “If I Ever Lose This Heaven”, “Going Out Of My Head”, “Put A Little Love Away”, “Waiting For Love”, “Waters Of March”, “Please Baby Don’t”, “So Many Stars” “Night And Day”, “Like A Lover”, “Love City”, “Bridges,” and many more.

As a young boy in Niteroi, Brazil, Sergio Mendes attended the local conservatory of music with the hopes of becoming a classical pianist until he switched at the age of 15 to bossa nova when the popular craze for the jazz-infected derivative of samba swept Rio de Janeiro in the mid-to-late-50s.

Moving to the United States in 1964, he achieved instant success with his band Brasil ’66 following the release on A&M Records of its self-titled debut album that featured a mix of light jazz, a bossa nova beat and contemporary soft pop melodies.

The original line-up of Brasil ’66 comprised of Mendes (piano), vocalists Lani Hall and Bibi Vogel (later replaced by Janis Hansen), Bob Matthews (bass), Jose Soares (percussion) and Joao Palma (drums), with John Pisano as guest guitarist.

The debut LP rose to Number 6 nationally with the strong performance of the single, “Mas Que Nada”. The second album, “Equinox”, produced a trio of hits, “Night And Day”, “Constant Rain (Chove Chuva)” and “For Me”. The third album, “Look Around”, climbed to Number 5 behind a Number 3 single of the group’s cover of The Beatles’ “Fool on the Hill” and an accompanying hit with “Scarborough Fair,” based on the Simon & Garfunkel version of the folk song. “Crystal Illusions”, released in 1969, featured a version of Otis Redding’s “(Sittin’ On) The Dock of the Bay” and the hit single, “Pretty World”.

Mendes attained mainstream prominence when he performed the Oscar-nominated Burt Bacharach and Hal David song, “The Look of Love”, on the Academy Awards telecast in April 1968. Brasil ‘66’s version of the song quickly shot into the Top 10, peaking at No. 4 and surpassing Dusty Springfield’s version from the sound track of the hit James Bond movie, “Casino Royale”.

From 1968 onwards, Mendes was concededly the biggest star in the world of music, riding on a wave of immense international popularity and performing on a variety of venues, from stadium arenas to the White House, where he gave concerts for both Presidents Lyndon B. Johnson and Richard M. Nixon.

After an absence of five year, Mendes returned to the music and entertainment scene in 1982, celebrating the event with his 1983 self-titled comeback album – his first Top 40 album in nearly a decade and a half – accompanied by his biggest chart single ever, “Never Gonna Let You Go,” which hit Number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

In 1984, he recorded “Confetti”, an album that featured the hit songs, “Olympia”, which was also used as a theme song for the Olympic Games held that year in Los Angeles. By the time Mendes released his 1992 Grammy-winning album, “Brasileiro”, he was recognized as the undisputed master of pop-infected Brazilian jazz. During the same period, he performed with a new group, Brasil ’99 and more recently Brasil 2000 and has been integrating the sounds of Bahian hip-hop into his music.

In 2006, Concord Records released “Timeless”, his first album of newly-recorded materials in eight years, and which featured a catalogue of neo-soul and alternative hip-hop guitarists, most prominent of which was will.i.am of The Black Eyed Peas. The album was followed by “Encanto” in 2008 and “Born Tempo” in 2010.

“Sergio Mendes & Brasil 2014 Live In Manila!” is presented by Ovation Productions in partnership with Air21 and Fox International. It is supported by the Edsa Shangri-la, The Philippine Star, Manila Bulletin, BusinessWorld, Crossover 101.5, Monster Radio RX 93.1, Retro 105.9 FM and 96.3 Easy Rock.

David Blaine ‘Real or Magic’ LIVE in Manila, September 12

Ovation Productions presents David Blaine ‘Real or Magic’ LIVE in Manila, September 12, 2014, 8:00pm at Smart Araneta Coliseum, Quezon City.

One of the world's best magicians of all time. He is best known for his high-profile feats of endurance, and has made his name as a performer of street and close-up magic. Now he's coming to Manila for one-night-only show as part of his Asia Tour on September 2014.

Is he for real? Or is he a con job? Filipinos can decide for themselves when the world’s most intriguing magician hits Manila for a one-night-only live show.Magician David Blaine, who has been wowing and spooking audiences worldwide with his trailblazing brand of magic for almost two decades, is set to cast a spell on Philippine audiences in a 90-minute live show on September 12 at the Araneta Coliseum, according to promoter Renen de Guia of Ovation Productions.

This is not an entirely new venture into the world of magic by Ovation Productions, having promoted another very popular magician also by the name of David in Manila in 1989, David Copperfield!

Dubbed Real or Magic, Blaine’s first ever show in the Philippines will feature a slew of tricks that have blown the minds of anyone who has ever seen videos of his ‘street magic’ performances. The 41-year-old magician’s Manila stopover is part of his first Asian tour.

The show’s title references Blaine’s TV special last year in which he performed inexplicable tricks to the stupefaction of celebrities such as Will Smith, Kanye West, Ricky Gervais, Katy Perry, and a very freaked-out Harrison Ford — who jokingly told Blaine to “Get the f*** out of my house.”

Born in New York to Puerto Rican-Italian and Russian parents, Blaine became an overnight success at 24 when he debuted his Street Magic in 1997. The show, in which he performed minimal yet enigmatic tricks for impromptu audiences on the street, was a success.

Eschewing the glitzy Vegas-style showmanship of magicians like David Copperfield, Blaine’s less-is-more approach, lazy Brooklyn drawl and ultra-cool manner — not to mention his dark, brooding looks — won him a great league of fans across the world who just can’t seem to believe what they see.

Later, Blaine expanded his magical repertoire by featuring himself in a series of spectacularly staged death-defying endurance performances, some of which were inspired by his idol Harry Houdini. These endurance performances have seen Blaine: sealed in a coffin-like box at the bottom of a three-ton tank of water for a week; encased in ice for 63 hours; standing unsecured on top of a 30m high narrow pillar for 53 hours; and dangled in a plastic cube above the Thames for 44 days with only water to sustain him. He even managed to break a Guinness World Record in 2008 live on The Oprah Winfrey Show when he held his breath underwater for 17 minutes and 44 seconds — the record has since been broken. Meanwhile, the last spectacle saw him being zapped by a million volts of electricity produced by eight Tesla coil towers for 72 hours.

While the magician who’s been called our generation’s greatest probably won’t replicate such endurance tests for his live show, audiences can be assured that they’ll be feted to other head-scratching Blaine specialities — from how-did-he-do-that card tricks to pushing needles through his arm to twisting off a chicken’s head and putting it back on. But is it magic? Is it real? You decide.

David Blaine ‘Real or Magic’ LIVE in Manila, September 12, 2014 at the Araneta Coliseum is presented by Ovation Productions in cooperation with AXN, Philippine Star, Manila Bulletin, BusinessWorld, ABSCBN, MYX ,Philstar.com, Inquirer.net, Manila Concert Scene, Philippine Concerts, WhenInManila.com, Rappler.com, SoundCheckManila, Pep.ph, 105.1 Crossover, 96.3 EasyRock, Retro 105.9, Monster Radio 96.3, and Mellow 947.

Boyz II Men serenades Manila in September

Boyz II Men—the ones behind soulful tracks such as “I’ll Make Love to You”, “End of the Road”, “On Bended Knee”, “Water Runs Dry”, “A Song For Mama”, “One Sweet Day” (with Mariah Carey), and “4 Seasons of Loneliness” among other hits, wil serenade the Filipinos who possess an unwavering love for romantic ballads. With the Boyz II Men sereneding in Manila this coming September, Filipinos will more than satisfy this craving.

Ovation Productions, the premier concert promotions and productions company in the country, presents Boyz II Men LIVE in Manila this September 17, 2014 to be held at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The brilliant and immensely talented group is currently composed of baritone Nathan Morris with tenors Shawn Stockman and Wanya Morris. In 2003, past member Michael McCary left the group because of health predicaments. The insistent popular demand in the Philippines for Boyz II Men magnetized the American R&B vocal group to once again grace the archipelago for the fourth time this coming September.

The group is widely popular for touching the hearts of many through their powerful voices, heartwarming lyrics, and splendid harmonies. The group has also done recordings of Motown’s Greatest Hits, a CD of the greatest love ballads, and other covers of popular hits.’

Boyz II Men’s vast success soared to great heights in the 1990s after releasing “End of the Road” which reached the top of the charts and conquered the number one place of Billboard Hot 100 for thirteen weeks. This caused one of the best vocal groups to break Elvis Presley’s record of longevity in the charts. Boyz II Men wowed the world once more by breaking their own record with the songs “I’ll Make Love to You” and “One Sweet Day” (with Mariah Carey), at fourteen and sixteen weeks respectively. The latter track still holds the all-time record for longevity in the Billboard Hot 100.

As one of the most massive names in R&B and a capella, Boyz II Men endeavored to put R&B back into the mainstream as it had been in the 1970s. The group has indubitably put a resonating impact on music and certainly brought back R&B to the popular scene. Boyz II Men garnered an astonishing cumulative 50 weeks on the number one spot of the Billboard Hot 100, a feat that only Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and Mariah Carey have surpassed. This proves how impactful Boyz II Men’s music has become and how the power of their voices has shaped and defined a capella and R&B music.

Catch Boyz II Men live in Manila on September 17, 2014 8PM at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

JESSIE J to Visit Manila, Sets To Perform at the Smart Araneta Coliseum

“Jessie J Live in Manila on July 14, 2014 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum presented by Midas Promotions in cooperation with Futuretainment, Inc.

After numerous number one singles and a debut album that headed straight for the top, selling millions worldwide, show-stopping performances in front of a global audience of billions at the Olympics and extraordinary acts for charity that hit the headlines, London-born songstress Jessie J shakes up Manila in “Jessie J Live in Manila.
The 26-year-old pop star burst onto the scene in 2011 with the explosive single, “Do It Like A Dude” in a feisty performance with a video so strong there was certainly no ignoring this talented new singer-songwriter, surfing between tough RnB and rap. That was followed by “Price Tag”, the anti-materialistic anthem of its year, and an album that sold in its millions going platinum several times over. But that was just the beginning of a journey that would see Jessie become the first British woman in history to take six top ten singles from one album and never mind that it was her first outing.

To add to those achievements are some pretty impressive statistics: coming up for 15 million sales, a Brit, the BBC Sound of 2011 award, two number one singles in the UK, number ones in no fewer than 19 countries, a number six hit in the US with “Domino”. There are many more. We could go on. And that’s not to mention her part in The Voice UK, the highly-rated BBC1 Saturday night prime-time show where she has mentored hopefuls alongside legends like Sir Tom Jones and will.i.am.

The former Voice UK coach also released her second studio album Alive in September and shaved off her trademark bob for Comic Relief, donating the hair to be woven into wigs for children who had lost their hair during cancer treatment. “I wrote my first album when I was 18. This is definitely more mature,” she said of her new record on which she wrote and worked on with the likes of Rodney Jerkins, Claude Kelly and Stargate.

Witness as Jessie J delivers an evening of hits, dance tunes, trendsetter ways and show-stopping vocals which alters from jump-up and rave anthems made for nightclubs to soft ballad highlights including Domino, Laserlight, Thunder, Excuse My Rude, Do It Like A Dude, Wild, Who You Are, Price Tag, and It's My Party.

Girl Power! Binibinis celebrate International Women’s Day

GIRL POWER – Binibining Pilipinas 2014 candidates show off women’s rights signs with
Mr. Brian Poe, Head of the Research Team—Office of Senator Grace Poe- Llamanzares

The 40 candidates of the Binibining Pilipinas celebrated International Women’s Day last March 8 at the Gateway Cinema 5 in a film showing of documentary Girl Rising sponsored by SPARK Philippines Inc (Samahan ng Mga Pilipina para sa Reporma at Kaunlaran), J. Amado Araneta Foundation, and the Araneta Center.

The movie featured the inspiring stories of nine girls all over the world who were born into unforgiving circumstances but overcame adversity. The event also hosted thought-provoking talks on women empowerment from Ms. Czarina Medina-Guce, Executive Director, Union of Local Authorities of the Philippines; Mr. Brian Poe- Llamanzares, Head of the Research Team—Office of Senator Grace Poe- Llamanzares; Bai Rohaniza Sumndad-Usman, Founder, Teach Peace Build Peace Movement; and Zorayda Amelia Alonzo, SPARK Philippines Inc. President.

As representatives of the Philippines to the most prestigious pageants worldwide, the Binibinis embody Filipinas’ strength and character and are champions of women empowerment.  In an interview, the girls share their thoughts on women’s rights, gender equality and International Women’s Day.

What can women do for society?
“Women can do a lot of things in society, and we are privileged to be living in an age where we can enjoy freedom to pursue things we want to do and achieve. For me, as a Binibini, I can inspire women to become better versions of themselves and we advocate women to be empowered Filipinas.”—Binibini No. 31 Angelique Celine De Leon

What are the biggest issues for women that we should address?
“I read somewhere that the Philippines is a hotbed for human trafficking, and women are the most susceptible to this. There are women who are being exploited and violated and they were not given the choice to say no. So I think we should promote projects to push awareness on human trafficking.”—Binibini No. 5 Hanna Mariz dela Guerra

What are your realizations this Women’s month?
“This day made me realize the importance of gender equality—that women deserve to be treated equally with men and that women are able and capable of reaching their dreams. As a girl who underwent struggles in my life, I keep these thoughts in mind to fuel me to achieve my goals.”—Binibini No. 36 Krystal Alonday

Who are the women you look up to?
“I work with Noraida Abdullah Karim in CFSI (Community and Family Services International) and she is someone I look up to. She is a multi-awarded social worker who specializes in psychosocial care, and she has helped counsel countless women and children who underwent traumatic experiences in war-torn Mindanao. I admire her because of her passion for the advocacy.”—Binibini No. 22 Mary Anne Bianca G. Guidotti

What can you say about gender equality in the Philippines?
“We are blessed that the Philippines is ranked number 5 in the world for gender equality based on a survey. But at the same time, there are still problems that need to be addressed like abuse in women. But it’s a good thing that we have programs that cater to the abused and empower women.”—Binibini No. 3 Joanna Angelica Romero

If you were to win Bb Pilipinas, what advocacy would you have for women?
“I want to have an organization that would foster and support sexually abused teenagers. Like a big sister-little sister project that would help the victims. Because of my exposure to so many news stories on rape and abuse, it became something I feel strongly about.”—Binibini No. 28 Carla Jenina Lizardo

As a beauty queen, how would you help promote women’s rights?
Candidate no. 4 Parul Shah shows off her support for education for women at the
Women’s Day celebration of Spark Philippines Inc., J. Amado Araneta Foundation,
and Araneta Center
“I would advocate gender equality. Everyone should be treated with mutual respect. Your race, your religion, your culture, or where you’re from—these things shouldn’t matter. Women should have the freedom to achieve anything they want in life.”—Binibini No. 4 Parul Shah

Joanna Angelica Romero, Mary Ainjely Manalo and Julian Aurine Flores stand up for women’s rights and display empowerment signs  at the recently concluded Women’s Day Celebration at the Araneta Center
What can you say about the women’s day festivities in the Philippines?
“I am happy that there is a day for women to be recognized and it’s also an important day for us to be aware of women’s issues. I think awareness is key to solve a lot of social issues women are facing.”—Binibini No. 1 Julian Aurine Flores
