World Vision and Shell Foundation distribute tons of fresh vegetables in Metro Manila and CDO

World Vision Development Foundation (WVDF) today provides 16,800 kilos of vegetables to the residents of Quezon City, Malabon City, Manila City and Cagayan de Oro City, four of the hard-hit cities under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) due to the ongoing coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

Children and communities receive fresh vegetables and other relief goods from donors of World Vision Philippines

In collaboration with Pilipinas Shell Foundation, Inc. (PSFI), the child-focused organization packed and distributed fresh vegetable packs containing okra, sayote, cabbage scorpio, wombok, potatoes, squash, eggplant, onion, garlic, tomatoes, bitter gourd, string beans, carrots and chili pepper to 5,750 households and 60 frontliners in Quezon City, Malabon City, Manila City and Cagayan de Oro City.

PSFI’s Ani Para sa Bayani (translated Harvest for Heroes) project aims to help struggling small farmers sell their produce and to also ensure that frontliners and the vulnerable communities have access to nutritious foods.

"Nutrients in vegetables could help strengthen our body's immune system to fight diseases including COVID-19. Eat a lot of fruits and vegetables," shared Carleneth San Valentin, World Vision's technical manager for health.

Staff and volunteers of World Vision Philippines pack and distribute tons of fresh vegetables to Quezon City and Malabon City

San Valentin explains that while we continue to implement interventions on COVID-19, programmes that address undernutrition and malnutrition especially among children under-5 years old in the country, whether nutrition specific or nutrition sensitive, need to continue.

Nanay Nerissa, a mother of two from Malabon City shares that since the implementation of the extended community quarantine, his husband is not able to drive his pedicab and even get extra work and earn a living because they cannot go out. She adds “Umaasa kami ngayon sa paminsang minsang kita dito sa ulingan. Mahirap din para sa dalawang anak ko na bata pa, 10 at five years old dahil kung walang kita, sa relief lang kami umaasa.” (We are currently relying on the irregular income from selling charcoal. It is especially difficult for my two young children, 10 and five years old, while we do not have a stable source of income, we rely on relief goods.)

Her 10-year old son Ric, who is a World Vision sponsored child says he misses going to school but since classes are suspended, he sometimes helps his mother repack charcoal aside from cooking rice and cleaning the house.

PSFI Executive Director Sebastian Quiniones Jr. says, "This pandemic is allowing all to show the best of humanity, especially during this season of Lent where we are commanded to love one another. We at PSFI have always believed in the power of unity and collaboration, and this successful partnership with World Vision and Filipino farmers has manifested that." While the collaboration begins by supporting farmers in Luzon and assisting vulnerable communities in Metro Manila and Cagayan de Oro City, the organizations hope to extend their collaboration to other areas in need of assistance.

"Thanks to Pilipinas Shell Foundation for partnering with us in sending much needed help to families especially their children affected by COVID-19. We pray that God will continue to bless you even more as you generously give back to our communities," World Vision national director Rommel V. Fuerte said.

As of today, World Vision has provided 458 personal protective equipment (PPE) kits catering to 2,140 frontliners. It also helped install nine (13) tents to be used as isolation and triage areas for COVID-19 referral hospitals in Metro Manila, Misaims Oriental, Pangsinan and Bicol Region and two (2) huge mobile storage units each with an area of 320 sq meters for the Quezon City Risk Reduction and Management Council and Office of the Civil Defence. At least 2,000 families have also received sanitation kits that include bath soaps, alcohol, toothbrushes for children and adults, toothpaste, face mask and mouthwash. World Vision has also reached over 1.4 million people nationwide on awareness raising on COVID-19 including infection prevention and control (IPC) measures.

In a recent advisory, the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) gave the go signal to local governments to use a portion of their development fund to address the threat of the pandemic, which includes the provision of food assistance and relief goods for affected households.

Meanwhile to slow down the spread of COVID-19, the Philippine government has extended the Luzon-wide enhanced community quarantine to May 15, 2020.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year: Bring love and joy this Christmas through Hallmark x 7-Eleven’s holiday collaboration

The air is chilly, the mood is merry, and the lights are out and sparkling. What a joy it is to have the holidays upon us once again. This is the time to give back and share the love and blessings we have received this year, as it is what the true spirit of Christmas is.

This Christmas, Hallmark is inviting you to celebrate the season with the gift of love and care. In hopes to bring holiday cheer to street children, Hallmark is partnering with PhilSeven Foundation, convenience store 7-Eleven’s charity arm, through ‘Gulong ng Karunungan’ (GNK) project. This is a mobile school project that aims to provide education to the less fortunate street children of select local cities in the Philippines. Over the past years, GNK has helped augment the learning, supplemental feeding, and basic medical needs of over 2,000 disadvantaged youth, comprised mostly of out-of-school children and informal settlers from identified city beneficiaries.

Moreover, you as a customer can be a part of this jolly project. With every purchase of Hallmark Christmas products such as their Gift Wrappers, Gift Bags, Gift Tags and other Christmas products from 7-Eleven, a portion of the sales will be donated directly to support GNK project.

Make this season shine by celebrating it, too, wiNth people outside your home. And when you care enough to give back, we believe that the smiles and joy of children in need are more than enough to warm your heart and make your Christmas, the merriest ever.

Jollibee’s latest heartwarming video will make you want to hug your kid

The way parents raise their kids during their formative years is critical in shaping their character and values, which is why love, care, happiness, affection, respect and generosity should always come to play. Jollibee brought this truth to life late last year by releasing a powerful ad emphasizing the importance of family bonding especially during the child’s first seven years.

The campaign was supported by no less than world-renowned parenting and character formation expert Dr. Michele Borba. The author of “UnSelfie: Why Empathetic Kids Succeed in Our All-About-Me World” affirms that parents should “develop a close, mutually respectful relationship” with their children for the latter to grow into wonderful human beings.

As a continuation to this advocacy, Jollibee shows proof of the premise from the kids themselves. In a social experiment video, kids were asked regarding what truly makes them happy. Their messages were so simple but truly eye-opening!

“We produced this video to show everyone what kids truly value, and to remind parents how quality time can positively impact their childhood more than any toy or material gift ever could,” Jollibee Marketing Director, Cathleen D. Capati said. “Being present in their formative years is very important—everyday special moments can be as simple as cheering up your son when he’s down or curling up with your daughter to watch her favorite TV show. As parents, this video is just a reminder that making our kids feel our unconditional love need not be expensive nor complicated. The simple everyday moments we spend with our kids is enough for them to feel loved, with the hope that they grow up paying that love forward”.

One way to make any bonding experience more memorable is to pair it with Jolly Spaghetti. Jolly Spaghetti, a favorite among kids and kids-at-heart, has enabled numerous parent-child bonding occasions because of its meaty, cheesy goodness bursting with uniquely sweet-sarap sauce which Filipinos can’t resist. Treasure those simple moments with family over Jolly Spaghetti Solo, priced at only P50.00* or get the Jolly Spaghetti Family Pan good for 4-5 pax for only P199. These are available for dine-in, take-out, delivery and drive-thru transactions.

For more information on your classic Jolly favorites, like Jollibee Philippines’ Facebook page and follow @Jollibee on Twitter and Instagram.

Paolo Ballesteros and Yam Concepcion in Viva Films - ‘Amnesia Love’

Paolo Ballesteros, the “King of Make-up Transformation”, “Die Beautiful” star and one of the mainstay host of the longest-running noontime show of the Philippines “Eat Bulaga” teams up with Yam Concepcion in an unconventional love story from Viva Films, “Amnesia Love.”

Found unconscious by the beach in a remote island in Zambales, the character of Paolo Ballesteros is taken in by a compassionate couple (Lander Vera-Perez and Maricel Morales). When he wakes up, he cannot remember his name nor anything else. The couple’s daughter (Yam Concepcion) is skeptical about this guy’s condition, but is left with no choice but to let him stay in their home. Romance starts to brew between the two, but this amnesia patient displays some acts that are not exactly manly, and finds himself distracted by the sight of attractive men. When somebody from his past comes to shed light on who and what he really is, will the answers bring him peace or mayhem?

With a Best Actor award each from Tokyo Film Festival and Metro Manila Film Festival under his belt, Ballesteros said in an interview that he wants to keep making movies that would make people think. “Mapag-iisip yung tao… I want a good film na worth yung pagod.”

This outlook is shared by director Albert Langitan, who has worn different hats in the world of local production. He started out as a scriptwriter, then went on to direct reality shows and teleseryes such as Impostora and Super Ma’am. It is interesting to see how Langitan’s creative eye and Ballesteros’ passion for his craft work together to bring viewers a laugh-out-loud movie that’s hard to forget.

Adding spice to the film is VIVA’s versatile actress, Yam Concepcion who was first launched to stardom via Erik Matti’s adult drama “Rigodon.” “AMNESIA LOVE” is Paolo and Yam’s reunion film. They worked together in the 2016 blockbustermovie, “Bakit Lahat ng Gwapo May Boyfriend?!” with Kapuso star, Dennis Trillo and the Princess of All Media, Anne Curtis.

Joining Paolo, Yam, Lander and Maricel in the cast are Polo Ravales, Vandolph Quizon, Geleen Eugenio, and Sinon Loresca.

“AMNESIA LOVE” is showing in cinemas nationwide, starting February 28, 2018.

Believe in the power of love with new #KwentongJollibee2018 Valentine Series

Indeed no greater power than the power of love!

The now viral #KwentongJollibee2018 Valentine Series videos have once again captured the hearts of many and took the internet by storm, with 4.5M views for “Homecoming,” 9.2M views for “Signs,” and 4.2M for “Status.”

The three new Kwentong Jollibee episodes aim to impart valuable love lessons through beautifully told stories anchored on powerful truths on love.

With an awesome and exciting experience this Monday, February 6 as I attended an exclusive screening and meet & greet with the entire cast and directors at the Ayala Malls The 30th, the media got a closer and more meaningful look at the love stories that inspired this year’s batch of #KwentongJollibee2018 Valentine videos which encourages people to believe in the power of love.

The super talented cast, some are first timer actors/actress in a viral short video and director of each video shared wonderful insights and hugot lines that inspired them to bring the stories and characters to life on the digital screen.

Jollibee Global Brand Chief Marketing Officer and PH Marketing Head Francis Flores said, “Every Valentine’s Day, the brand wants everyone to embrace and feel love with real-life stories from #KwentongJollibee. And this year, the Valentine series returns with episodes that celebrate the power of love in different ways.”

Believing in the power of love

Following last year’s favorite “Crush”, Homecoming tells the story of Gilbert and Ruth, and proves how never giving up can lead to a lifetime of bliss and love.  Directed once again by Joel Ruiz, it follows the couple on the night of their college reunion as they reminisce about how love blossomed between them through sweet gestures and kilig love notes on their favorite Jollibee Cheesy Yumburger.

Signs explores the life of Star, a hopeless romantic who believes that signs will help her find her true love. Directed by blockbuster movie director Ted Boborol, the story takes viewers to a romantic journey as the universe seemed to align and point to Star’s classmate, Mark. It then unravels to a pleasantly romantic twist as Star realizes that while the signs have been wrong, true love eventually found her in the person of her friend Joms.

Director Ianco dela Cruz also returns with an inspiring tale that shows how love is always present with people who truly care for you. Status follows Kat and her journey to realization that the true love she was looking for has been with her family all along.

Netizens took to Facebook and Twitter to express their feelings:

One user said of “Homecoming,” “Do not settle for someone because of his physical attributes or his financial status. Fall for someone who never gets tired of saving you from your own chaos.”

A comment from the “Signs” episode said “Ang galing naman! Ang tagal ko nang hindi kinikilig ah, ngayon na lang ulit. Relate much ako dun sa mga signs. Kudos, Jollibee!”

“This kind of love is the purest of all. Kaya ‘di natin kelangan maghanap ng true love. It will come at the right time, in the right place, unexpectedly” posted another netizen.

Mythological creatures, aswang, probably the most common of Filipino monsters since there are so many different kinds. Born from a tree during the country’s Spanish era, Elias embarks on a journey with two older aswangs, Tasyo and Sabel, in the quest to understand their true nature. Along the way, Elias meets Salome, a sex slave of the friars, and falls in love with her. In the middle of a rising revolution, Elias is forced to face his own battles – his love for Salome versus his hunger for flesh, the growing rift between himself and Tasyo, the society's stigma with aswangs, and the battle with his own inner demons.

Jollibee celebrates the joy of love with new #KwentongJollibee Valentine series

@myrns.roman

The country’s number one and beloved fast-food chain, Jollibee always inspire people to showcase some of the countless love stories that Pinoys have experienced through Kwentong Jollibee series.

Jollibee has launched three new videos under its highly successful and much raved about #KwentongJollibee series in time for Valentine’s Day.

One of the happy, inspired, and teary-eyed during in a special exclusive screening at the Ayala Malls The 30th,  I, with the media people,  got to see firsthand the latest batch of #KwentongJollibee videos that were inspired by true and heartwarming stories of love.

The complete cast of the Kwentong Jollibee Valentine series was also present to make the media preview even more special.
“For nearly four decades now, Jollibee has been a part of Filipinos’ lives, witnessing the most touching of their life stories,” said Francis Flores, Jollibee’s Global Brand Chief Marketing Officer and Jollibee Philippines Marketing head. “Through these new episodes of #KwentongJollibee, the brand recognizes love in all its forms, as an icon which celebrates the joy that is present in each shared special moment.”

Jollibee stories from the heart

“Vow”

In what could be the most relatable case of unrequited, unconditional love, “Vow” pays homage to people who continue to love, without expecting anything in return. Directed by Ianco dela Cruz (who helmed all previous Kwentong Jollibee materials), it tells the story of a man who fell deeply in love with “the one” from the time he first saw her at a Jollibee store. But fate led them to a different path, and the story perfectly captures how love can take on a different form and still prevail in the end.

“Date”

The second story “Date” explores the grim realities of life and love, yet brings to light the beautiful gift of endless love. Directed by Pepe Diokno, it showed how a young boy took the effort to arrange a surprise Valentine’s dinner for his mother following his father’s instructions to the letter. The son manages to set up the perfect date with his mom, complete with her Jollibee favorites. The mom was overwhelmed when the son shows her a video recording, which revealed that the Valentine’s date was yet another proof of her husband’s eternal love for her.

“Crush”

“Crush” is directed by Joel Ruiz and appeals to all the hopeless romantics in us. It is a feel-good and charming tale of a young college boy who’s head-over-heels in love with his schoolmate and who chooses to express his feelings by leaving her with anonymous cheerful notes with her favorite Jollibee burger. Decades later, a homecoming event sees the boy, now an elderly man, making the same romantic gesture for the love of his life.

Three of the brand’s previous #KwentongJollibee videos (Almusal, Entrance Exam and Mama’s Girl) were among the campaigns recognized in the 2016 Araw Values Awards. Jollibee’s viral Grandparents Day video ‘Kahera’ meanwhile made it to Google Asia Pacific’s YouTube Leaderboard last September 2016 as among the most watched videos in the region -- the only campaign from the Philippines to make it to the list.

Through the years, Jollibee has witnessed many kinds of stories unfold, develop, and flourish in all its stores across the country. This Valentine’s season, Jollibee and its new #KwentongJollibee series invites you to celebrate love and savor the joys that come with the special shared moments.
