Master Chefs 2013: From Barangay Cooking Idols to Talented Master Chefs

Chef Hasset Go - Master Chefs 2013 Ambassador
Master Chefs 2013 Barangay Cooking Challenge’s launch last September 5, 2013 marked the start of cooking competitions to be held in all 37 SM Hypermarkets nationwide.

Pinoys appreciate a wide variety of cuisines. Though they are loyal to local cooking, they are still open to new and different flavors. Just take a look at traditional Filipino cuisine and the vastness of the menu proves it. The long list of delicious food is a product of Pinoy creativity and ingenuity when it comes to food.

Great Filipino cooking is not just found in restaurants and hotels but also in residences, carinderias, and eateries where people regularly eat.

On its 7th year, Master Chefs pays tribute to the culinary prowess of the barangay, Master Chefs highlights the everyday excellence displayed by carinderias, canteens, food stalls, and home kitchens in making exquisite dishes. These places produce exactly what Pinoys crave for simply because these cooks desire to eat the same masterpieces they create.

And because they have truly captured Filipino taste, the barangay chefs are this year’s focus.

I was invited by friend Jonel Uy to witness Master Chefs 2013 Barangay Cooking Challenge’s launch last Saturday September 5, 2013 that marked the start of cooking competitions in all 37 SM Hypermarkets nationwide. The Barangay Cooking Idol introduces something new. It is a competition open not only to anyone who cook well, they should have other talents too. Those who aspire to become Master Chefs must incorporate a routine that wows the crowd. They could sing, dance, act, anything amazing is welcome. At the end of it all, Master Chefs 2013 will introduce a new breed of super chefs that are not only exemplary cooks but also talented individuals.
Master Chefs 2013 will also reinvent the Pinoy’s all-time favorites; adobo, sinigang, pochero, kare-kare, chopsuey, Caldereta, menudo, pinakbet, and in the process, discover new ways of cooking the Master Brands.

Master Chefs will creatively put new twists in the food products people have learned to enjoy like Nestle All-Purpose Cream, Maggi Magic Sarap and Maggi Savor, CDO Funtastyk, Idol Cheesedog, Bibbo Hotdog, and Ulamburger, Bounty Fresh Gourmet Chicken and Nuggets, Purefoods Tender Juicy Hotdogs, Stuffed Nuggets and Chicken Drummets, and Unilever Knorr Soups and ready mixes.
Chef Paulo Sia
Master Chefs 2013 was launched at SM Hypermarket Cubao and was hosted by none other than Papa Dan of 97.1 Barangay LS and Monica Verallo of Unang Hirit. The Master brands and their reputable chefs Chef Paolo Sia, Chef Kris Alcedo, and, Master Chefs 2013 ambassador, Chef Hasset Go were there and showed more exciting ways of mixing up their signature products.
And for a little more flavour for the crowd, games with cool prizes were played by the audience. Of course, the event would not be complete without great tasting food.
It was truly a culinary event highlighting the barangay’s cooking talents; a food fest no Filipino can ever say no to.

Step into the Wonderful World of Baby’s Dreams

Pampers and Sleep Experts walk you through your baby’s journey of sound sleep and sound development.
What do babies rream about? Is there a way of knowing for sure what babies dream about? But really hope and pray that they have sweet dreams. Indeed, sweet dreams are golden moments. Parents want their babies to have the best quality sleep possible. Any mother will tell you how valuable it is when her baby sleeps through the night.
Pampers understands the importance of a good night of quality sleep for baby and for the family.
Pampers launches today the Sound Sleep, Sound Development campaign, in partnership with the Mother & Child Nurses Association of the Philippines (MCNAP).
“This campaign aims to educate moms on the importance of complete night-time sleep for babies. We acknowledge that when baby sleeps through, night after night, it is a key step in baby’s development,” says Pampers Brand Manager Camille Aquino.

Sleep experts MCNAP President Alicia Estiller and Philippine Society of Sleep Medicine (PSSM) Dr. Luis Rivera Jr. also agree that complete night-time sleep is very important to baby’s development and growth. "It is associated with more positive daytime behavior, mood and temperament, and better physical functioning,” adds Mrs. Estiller. However, many factors can disturb a baby’s sleep or lead them to wake fully, such as hunger, illness and discomfort.

“That is why moms should learn to identify these external factors so they can appropriately address baby’s concerns,” says Dr. Rivera.
Mom knows that part of being a good mom is to check baby’s diaper for wetness. However, she’s doing more harm than good because this interrupts baby’s sleep. “Sleep deprivation is associated with stunted growth, weight problems, low attention span, delayed learning and behavioural problems,” shares Estiller.

To minimize baby’s discomfort during sleep, mothers often take steps to prevent diaper wetness during the night. A clinical study by scientists at Pampers highlights what they call the ‘wetness wake-up call’ --- a direct link between urination and sleep disturbance. Receptors in a baby’s skin can easily sense the feeling of wetness, acting as little ‘alarm clocks’ that could potentially wake the baby.

In light of this insight, a team of ‘dryness experts’ at the Pampers Schwalbach Technical Centre in Germany came up with a study to help silence the ‘wetness wake-up call’. The team formulated the unique 4-layers + gel technology to effectively absorb and lock wetness away from baby’s skin. When tested, this new technology helped reduce the chance of the baby’s skin sensing wetness and helped baby to sleep soundly. No need for mom to disturb baby’s sleep when she checks the diaper. Pampers thus acts as a sleep enabler that helps establish a night-time pattern of sleeping through the night, night after night.

To help moms better understand what complete night-time sleep means for babies, Pampers creates an interactive exhibit giving moms a glimpse of what goes on inside their baby’s brain while they are sleeping. Mommy bloggers Frances Amper-Sales and Pehpot Pineda open the exhibit with a very enlightening discussion about the challenges of putting babies to sleep and ensuring complete night-time sleep. Estiller shares common sleep myths, facts and tips to ensure quality night-time sleep for babies. Philippine Society of Sleep Medicine (PSSM) Dr. Luis Rivera Jr. also reveals what complete sleep does for babies’ brains.

Four booths are showcased in the exhibit showcasing the baby’s dream world and providing key information to help moms better appreciate the importance of complete night-time sleep to babies.

Informational highlights of the booths are current sleep practices of babies through a sleep survey among moms, different interactive games to help moms better understand their baby’s sleeping habits, and the positive and negative effects of complete sound sleep towards baby’s holistic development. A special booth, which serves as Mom’s Helpdesk is also open for free consultation and product demonstration with Sleep Experts.
Pampers Comfort not just protects baby’s complete sleep against wetness, but also strengthens mom’s belief that she is providing her baby with the best possible care to achieve optimum brain development. Through the Sound Sleep, Sound Development campaign, more moms will understand and better appreciate the importance of sleep.

The Daniel Padilla bundle, which is sold for only P500, allows them to have a meet and greet with the teen star as well as get a copy of his latest album and a Lily’s Peanut Butter product. On the other hand, a single purchase of P150 worth of Lily’s Peanut Butter and a copy of Daniel Padilla’s latest album worth P250 get them a general admission pass. Both passes are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

As a way of thanking loyal consumers for being the No. 1 brand in its category, Lily’s Peanut Butter brand organized the fan meet.

Padilla, a self-confessed consumer of Lily’s Peanut Butter, said he enjoys the healthy spread as part of his tasty, energizing snack during breaks from his busy routine at work.

“Ako talaga, ang gusto kong baon yung masarap na at maganda pa sa katawan. Yang Lily’s kasi, nalaman ko na all-natural siya. Walang halong artificial ingredients atsaka chemicals,” he related.

He’s also happy that his recording of the song, “Ikaw Lang Talaga”—which is Lily’s Peanut Butter official theme song—is included in the album. “Kaya rin nakakadagdag sa excitement ko sa mall show. Mapaparinig ko sa mga tao yung full version ng ‘Ikaw Lang Talaga’ na magandang love song din. Kasali pa yung kanta sa album ko,” he explained.

“Lily’s Peanut Butter is a proudly Filipino product and homegrown. People really enjoy its rich, peanut butter taste and they keep coming back for more. Best of all, Lily’s Peanut Butter is genuine, 100 percent pure peanut, with no artificial additives for that rich, real peanut butter taste,” said Tin Pua, Sales and Marketing manager of Newborn Food products, Inc., the makers of Lily’s Peanut Butter.

The fan meet event will feature games and fun trivia about Lily’s Peanut Butter.
