Kathryn, Alden to reprise iconic roles as Joy and Ethan
In another historic collaboration, ABS-CBN’s Star Cinema and GMA Pictures are teaming up for the first time to produce “Hello, Love, Again,” the highly anticipated sequel to the blockbuster hit "Hello, Love, Goodbye."
Kathryn Bernardo of ABS-CBN and Alden Richards of GMA will be reprising their well-loved characters, Joy and Ethan, in “Hello, Love, Again.” Box-office hit film director Cathy Garcia-Sampana, who helmed the original film, returns to direct the sequel that will be shot in Canada.
The film’s theatrical release begins on November 13, 2024 in the Philippines, with international releases following thereafter.
The announcement was made on Sunday (May 19) with key officers from ABS-CBN and GMA present. They were ABS-CBN president and CEO Carlo Katigbak, ABS-CBN chief operating officer Cory Vidanes, ABS-CBN Film Productions head Kriz Gazmen, and GMA Films president and CEO Atty. Annette Gozon-Valdes.
For many years, Star Cinema has been telling heartwarming stories of Filipinos and shedding light on the realities of Filipinos living and working abroad through silver screen features. Among its remarkable films from the past decades are “Anak,” “Barcelona: A Love Untold,” “Caregiver,” “Dubai,” “In The Name of Love,” and “Milan.” Star Cinema, along with APT Entertainment and Agosto Dos Pictures, also produced the highest-grossing Filipino film of all time, “Rewind.”
Meanwhile, GMA Pictures has produced notable films that touch on key social issues in the Philippines. It led the production of critically acclaimed movies “Muro Ami” and “Deathrow,” the historical drama, “Jose Rizal,” as well as blockbuster hits like “Let The Love Begin” and “Ang Panday.” Last year, it released the movie “Firefly” which earned the Best Picture award in the 2023 Metro Manila Film Festival.
Star Cinema, the film arm of the Filipino-owned multi-media company ABS-CBN, brings a different kind of movie experience with its first digital movie series “The House Arrest of Us,” which will be seen worldwide on iWantTFC and TFC IPTV starting October 25.
Different from the usual almost two-hours-long movie viewing, the movie “The House Arrest of Us” will be divided into 13 episodes with each episode being released weekly, which viewers from different countries around the world get to watch repeatedly throughout the season.
The digital movie series also serves as the reunion project of the box-office stars Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla, collectively known as KathNiel, since their last TV series and movie together. Their last TV series was “La Luna Sangre” in 2017, while it was in 2018 when they starred in the box-office hit Filipino film “The Hows of Us.”
The setting for KathNiel’s upcoming movie is based in the time when the Philippines was under the enhanced community quarantine, where everyone was mandated to stay at home due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
In “The House Arrest of Us,” the enhanced community quarantine was announced at the time when Korics’ (Daniel) family went to meet Q’s (Kathryn) family for the pamamanhikan, a Filipino tradition where the man with his family formally asks the permission of the woman’s family to marry her. This forces the total opposites and warring families of the newly engaged couple to live under one roof, which will also test the couple’s relationship.
The reel and real-life couple are excited for everyone to watch their romantic-comedy digital movie series “The House Arrest of Us,” which they believe delivers good comedy and gives a peek into the Filipino culture.
“I think nami-miss na nila ‘yong ganitong style ng comedy,” Daniel explained during the media conference for the digital movie series. “Kasi it is the first time nating gagawa ng scenes na ang pagka-mount niya is isang pelikula pero ‘yong script natin is sobrang nakakatawa, hindi tayo bumibitaw sa comedy pero nando’n ‘yong puso. So do’n makaka-relate ‘yong mga Pilipino, OFW man o nandito sa Pilipinas.”
On the other hand, Kathryn is happy that their film showcases the Filipino culture. She shares, “ipapakita dito ‘yong culture natin as Filipino family. Tayo kasi ‘pag sinabi mong pamilya dadaan ka talaga sa pamamanhikan. So maganda ipakita na ganito ang culture nating mga Pinoy, na bago mo makuha talaga ‘yong kamay ng babae ito ‘yong pinagdadaanan natin kasi gano’n tayo lumaki. So nakaka-proud at excited kami na mapanood ninyo ito especially the younger generations, na ganito ang ginagawa ng mga lolo’t lola natin dati pa.”
“The House Arrest of Us” also stars Herbert Bautista, Ruffa Gutierrez, Gardo Versoza, Arlene Muhlach, Dennis Padilla, Anthony Jennings, Riva Quenery, Alora Sasam, and Hyubs Azarcon under the direction of Richard Arellano.
Will their families’ differences affect their relationship? Will their wedding push through? Find out by as “The House Arrest of Us” becomes available to viewers worldwide starting October 25 on iWantTFC and TFC IPTV, with a new episode drop every Sunday (Manila time).

Celebrated actor and producer Piolo Pascual embarks on a new film adventure as he stars and co-producers the latest heart-warming drama, “Northern Lights: A Journey to Love,” screening in key countries worldwide via TFC@theMovies.
Star Cinema and Regal Entertainment together with Pascual’s Spring Films bring you a story of a struggling overseas Filipino (Charlie Sr.) in Alaska who tries to be a father to his estranged child (played by child star Raikko Mateo (Charlie Jr.) from a former relationship.
In this journey, he meets Yen Santos (Angel), a woman who is also in search of herself after a broken heart and her mother also in the same land.
Even with the beauty of the country, coldness permeates the three characters with the loneliness they feel as Piolo Pascual tries to prove himself worthy of becoming a parent, Mateo yearns for the genuine love of a father and Santos tries to come to terms with Pascual’s offer of love and her own search for individuality.
Shot mostly in New Zealand and partly in Alaska, “Northern Lights” A Journey to Love” not only presents a soulful narrative of the three lost souls but also a beautiful display of the Northern Hemisphere via the breathtaking aurora borealis.
According to director Dondon Santos, the inspiration came from a trip to Alaska three years ago. “We conceptualized this story of a father who can’t connect with his child and we thought of Piolo. When we pitched it to him, he wanted it. Then we collaborated on how we can improve on the story.”
The story resonates well with Pascual because it hits home as he used to be an overseas Filipino himself. “This is the reality – Filipinos getting separated from their families. So I told myself, I wanted to do something real, something relatable with the audience. So when they pitched the script, something that speaks of reality, I leaned towards accepting the project.”
Meantime, Santos who considers herself lucky to be paired with Pascual in her first onscreen performance, says “I am thankful. I believe everything happens for a reason — why I was chosen.”
The heart-warming the story of Charlie Sr. Charlie Jr. and Angel as it screens via TFC@theMovies in the following countries and dates: Middle East (UAE, Qatar, Bahrain) on March 30; U.S. and Canada on March 31; UK April 1 and 2; Austria on April 1; Rome and Milan on April 2; Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea on April 6; Saipan on April 7; Hong Kong on April 16; Singapore on April 23; and coming soon in more countries.

SKYLIGHT Films in partnership with Quantum Films brings together three A's of beauty, three of the country's most talented actresses Angelica Panganiban, Angeline Quinto and Assunta De Rossi in the season's wackiest comedy entitled Beauty in A Bottle--a movie that's bound to make the whole family to enjoy.
Beauty In A Bottle is centered on the characters of Vilma (De Rossi), Estelle (Panganiban) and Judith (Quinto). The three women desires to achieve physical beauty and perfection.
Vilma is in her late 30s and she works for an advertising agency, she's threatened as the agency is looking for a new, younger, and fresher executive. Vilma fears the idea of getting old and remaining single and she'll do everything in her power to maintain her youthful looks despite the inevitability to defy aging.
Estelle (Panganiban) plays an actress who gained excess pounds and is bashed for being fat. Her career is on the lune and to cope with the demands of showbiz, she becomes obsessed with fitness and will do anything to reclaim her beauty reign in showbiz.
Judith (Quinto) often compares herself with other beautiful ladies and elite socialites. She's like an "ugly duckling" to her family and she wants to prove to the family of her handsome boyfriend that she is also beautiful in her own right.
The insecurities of these three women will lead them to embark on a beautification project that might change their destinies forever. They cling on to the promise of an instant beauty--the Beauty In A Bottle. Vilma (Assunta) is the advertiser, Estelle (Angelica) is the endorser, and Judith (Angeline) is the user of Beauty In a Bottle.
Just like the characters in the film they are portraying, these three ladies also had insecurities at some point in their lives.
Angelica says she was challenged for the role. "It's the usual struggle of celebrities and the so-called "has beens". My character tackles the hardwork. Comedy isn't easy. With drama, you just have to let your emotions flow but with comedy, you've got to be smart and witty at the same time," explained Angelica in vernacular.
On aging, Assunta says, although she's only 31, "Things had never been the same as when she was eighteen. I wish I had been born with really clear skin. I'm so oily and high maintenance. It's my life long insecurity. I want to stop my blemishes. I'm open to anything topical but I'd never resort into cosmetic surgery, it's simply not my cup of tea."
During the press conference of Beauty in a Bottle movie, Star Power Grand Winner Angeline Quinto shared that she needed to do something to make her feel beautiful. When she was still starting in the showbusiness it was during their mall shows that she felt her insecurity. She had noticed that only a few would ask to take photos with her. So she was truly grateful to Dr. Vicky Belo of Belo Medical Clinic who had given her free treatments. As she admitted to be a Gluthathione fan, she then has finally achieved her desired skin complexion, she has gained back her confidence, "it's my personal choice to try to change the way I look. I've never been happier."
Also in the cast of Beauty in A Bottle are Nanette inventor, Tom Rodriguez, Carmi Martin, Empress Schuck, Dimples Romana, Ricci Chan, Bianca Manalo and Ellen Adarna.
Beauty in A Bottle will be shown in theaters nationwide starting on October 29.
“The Trial” – a Chito S. Roño and John Lloyd Cruz cinematic masterpiece that no one should ever miss.
“The Trial” is a poignant family drama about how two families will cope with a scandal. The tragedy each of the characters face will put their love for one another to the ultimate test. They will all eventually learn if love can really withstand the greatest trial or not. This thought-provoking drama aims to challenge everyone into pondering the idea of who is really in trial once Ronald is brought to court.
“The Trial” revolves around Ronald Jimenez (Cruz), a mentally challenged 27-year-old man who is accused of raping his grade school teacher Bessie. Defense attorney Julian, who is on the verge of separating from his wife Amanda and the father of Ronald’s best friend Martin, will represent Ronald in court.
In “The Trial,” Ronald Jimenez was not born rich. He was even born with a rare mental condition that limits his thinking capacity.
“He speaks the language of love in the purest form.”
This is the kind of love Ronald, the character of John Lloyd Cruz, is giving to everyone especially his special someone, Teacher Bessy (Jessy Mendiola).
This is despite his mental condition called mild intellectual disability.
Ronald grew up from an unconventional family. They may not have a lot of material wealth but his parents, gay and lesbian, expressed their love in the most possible ways.
Ronald’s pure heart and his extraordinary family setting, according to John Lloyd, has captured the heart of the master director Chito Roño.
“The Trial” remains consistent with Star Cinema’s steadfast commitment to motion picture excellence, as it is groundbreaking and historic in so many ways specifically for both Direk Chito and John Lloyd.
Star Cinema continues to celebrate its 20th anniversary with the upcoming mainstream theatrical release of “The Trial”, Roño’s newest movie under Star Cinema since he directed 2012’s smash hit “The Healing” starring Star For All Seasons Vilma Santos.
For John Lloyd, who is a certified box-office king and arguably one of the most critically acclaimed actors of his generation, “The Trial” marks his much-awaited comeback to full-length feature films.
“The Trial” is the newest movie that John Lloyd is starring in after he broke box-office records worldwide with Pop Star Princess Sarah Geronimo in the romantic comedy “It Takes A Man And A Woman” (2013). Prior to “The Trial,” the last movie that featured John Lloyd as a dramatic actor was “The Mistress” (2012).
With a script written by Kris Gazmen, a versatile screenwriter whose diverse work range from such Star Cinema blockbuster hits as the comedies “Ang Tanging Ina N’yong Lahat” and “Sisterakas” to dramatic films such as “No Other Woman” and “One More Try,” “The Trial” is the biggest and most gripping family drama of 2014.
Aside from John Lloyd, the film assembles an impressive line-up of accomplished and talented actors as led by Richard Gomez, Gretchen Barretto, Jessy Mendiola, and Enrique Gil.
Richard, one of the country’s finest actors whose most recent credits include the phenomenal primetime series on ABS-CBN “Walang Hanggan” and Star Cinema’s blockbuster hit “She’s Dating The Gangster,” plays the role of Julian. Gretchen on the other hand, plays the role of Julian’s wife, developmental psychologist Amanda. Like Richard, Gretchen is also an acclaimed artist and she is also one of the most controversial and influential celebrities in the industry.
Kris Gazmen, Direc Chito Rono and Jessy Mendiola during the Blogcon
Jessy, who is one of ABS-CBN’s fastest rising young stars, plays the role of Martin’s teacher Bessie while Enrique, who is currently one of ABS-CBN’s hottest young actors, plays the role of Martin.
With an awesome ensemble cast with Direk Chito and John Lloyd at the helm and an amazing story as the unifying element that binds all of them together, “The Trial” will enlighten moviegoers of all ages.
Ultimately, everyone will be reminded that trials are not just confined within the four corners of a courtroom, as trials are something that every person goes through on a daily basis.
“The Trial” begins in all mainstream cinemas nationwide starting October 15.

In contrast, the film is centered on the story of two former lovers who meet for the very first time after their break-up. The lovers in the film, as portrayed by Piolo and Toni, are faced with the seemingly insurmountable task of dealing with a huge unfinished business in their failed relationship.
Fall in love all over again in a different kind of love story this Valentine with Star Cinema’s 20th anniversary presentation Starting Over Again with Piolo Pascual and Toni Gonzaga.

With the film outfit’s greatest love stories under her belt, Star Cinema’s anniversary celebration will not be complete without an Olivia M. Lamasan film.
“I’ve always wanted to work with Toni Gonzaga and it has been years since I worked with Piolo Pascual,” says Lamasan, who is fondly called Inang by the industry. “I wanted to do a light romantic film again since the last movie that I directed that falls in that category was Got 2 Believe which was way back in 2002. It was just a matter of putting all the right elements together and looking for the perfect material that will best work with the very first big-screen team-up of Piolo and Toni who are two of ABS-CBN’s biggest stars.”
“A lot of people have been waiting for the big film collaboration of Piolo and Toni and I’m very happy that Star Cinema entrusted this movie to me,” explains Inang. “Piolo and Toni were first seen in a commercial 13 years ago and they never really worked on a big and major project like this, so even they themselves are very excited.”
Inang openly admits that she has missed working with Piolo whom she last worked with in 2004’s Milan. “He is such a humble and brilliant actor. Piolo’s dedication to his craft is unbelievable.” As for Toni, Inang is very impressed with her timing and professionalism. “Toni loves what she’s doing and she is filled with so much energy and passion with everything she does. Her timing is impeccable and she is a thinking actor. It’s a joy to work with such talented artists like Piolo and Toni.”
Piolo Pascual has worked with award-winning director Olivia M. Lamasan in “Milan” back in 2004, and now, they reunite for the movie “Starting Over Again.”
“Milan remains to be one of my top three favorite films. Working with Inang is like going to school because I always learn something new from her everyday. She is fantastic and learning never stops with Inang.”
While Piolo endearingly refers to Olive as both mentor and teacher.
In his years in the business, Piolo thought that he knew everything, but working and reuniting with Direk Olive made him realize that there are still a lot of things that he has to learn
Toni on the other hand sees Lamasan as an iconic figure in the film industry that she is honored to work with for the very first time. “Inang is awesome. She is a dream to work with. I’ve been waiting for a long time to finally work with Piolo and it has always been in my bucket list to do an Olive Lamasan movie. Now it’s finally done. I couldn’t contain my happiness when I learned that this project is pushing though. This is a major highlight of my career.”
“Starting over again could mean a lot of things,” Inang shared.
“We should all be ready to forgive, move-on, and grow in whatever choice we make for love. We should all let go of emotional baggage to live a life with no regrets. You have to watch the movie to find out what we mean when we say starting over again.”
Starting Over Again is written by Carmi Raymundo and it also stars Iza Calzado, Joross Gamboa, Bryan Santos, Beauty Gonzales, Cai Cortez, and Edgar Allan Guzman. Starting Over Again is showing in all cinemas nationwide starting Feb. 12.
