A few more steps in and fans will get a glimpse of the mystical metal Vibranium in the Vibranium cave. The controversial mineral, which is also contained in Captain America’s shield, has allowed Wakanda to take huge steps in technology, making the kingdom a target for enemies who envy its Vibranium resources. Wakanda is fiercely protected by the Black Panther and the Warriors of Wakanda. Visitors can check out a gallery inspired by the soldiers’ traditional yet hi-tech outfits.

Cap off your tour of Wakanda by paying tribute to their leader, T’Challa, more known as the Black Panther. Fans will get the chance to take photos with a life-sized figurine of the Black Panther.

How the Deaf and Blind Appreciate Movies Like Frozen

Mr. Edgardo Bong Garcia, President of Deaf-Blind Support Philippines, with his family

Disney’s animated fantasy musical got us all singing “Let It Go”, out loud or in our heads, for days on end. Some of us may have probably seen the movie where it came from, “Frozen”, a thousand times. This record-breaking film is a must-see, not just for its magical visuals but also for the inspiring songs and music within the story. It would be a shame for anyone not to see it – including the visual and hearing impaired among us.

Fortunately, some of the students and faculty of the Philippine School for the Deaf and the Philippine School for the Blind got to enjoy the movie musical in all its glory. “Frozen” was one of three movies that SM is featuring on the second leg of its Movies for the Deaf and Blind program under its CSR arm, SM Cares. The Angelina Jolie-starrer “Maleficent” and the fantasy action film “Pan” are the other two films that the deaf and blind audiences can now enjoy in 20 SM cinemas nationwide.

In this kind of special movie, audio-description and closed captioning features are used. The audio-description involves a narrator who describes every key visual element in the movie that the blind is not able to see: the action, scene changes, the actors’ gestures, facial expressions, costumes, and even on-screen text. The narration is inserted in between pauses or in gaps within dialogues whenever possible so that the blind audience can follow and understand the unfolding story.

Closed captioning, on the other hand, is a higher level of “subtitles” as we know it. It transcribes the dialogue between the characters in the film and flashed directly below the scene. What makes it work better for the deaf audience is the fact that even the sound effects, ambient noise, and other sound that are important in the scenes are included in the caption.

“Frozen” being an animated film and a musical, one would think that it would be a stretch for either the deaf or the blind to fully appreciate it. But Mrs. Ligaya Coral, a 30-year teacher at the Philippine School for the Deaf proudly claims that the deaf students and their families actually loved the movie experience, adding that they can even perform the songs themselves through sign language.

“We are thankful that there are movies like these now. The kids can appreciate the movie without needing an interpreter for them to know what’s happening in the story,” Mrs. Coral said.
Ms. Liza Lyn Lopez, a blind teacher, especially loved “Love Is An Open Door”, a duet between Anna and Prince Hans. “This kind of project means a lot because we, the disabled, rarely get exposed to something like this,” she said, referring to the movie experience.

Right now, a law had already been passed for using closed captioning in local productions. The MTRCB hopes to follow this up with audio-description soon. With partnerships between the private and public sector like SM, Deaf Blind Support Philippines, CALL Foundation of the Blind, and MTRCB, it would be possible to expect vernacular versions of audio-descriptive and close captioned movies as well.

SM Cinema joins GMovies roster of theater partners ePLUS, GCash as exclusive mode of payment

SM Cinema, the country’s largest chain of movie houses, has joined GMovies roster of theater partners, giving users of the mobile movie booking app a faster and easier way to buy tickets from any of over 300 SM theaters nationwide anytime at their convenience.

For the SM Cinema partnership, Globe Telecom’s mobile money solution GCash will initially be the exclusive payment gateway for GMovies users. GCash will be used in tandem with ePLUS, SM’s integrated e-wallet and loyalty system to give SM Cinema patrons another way to enjoy the movies.

At present, SM Cinema operates over 300 2D and 3D screens, 8 IMAX Theaters and 13 Director’s Club Cinemas for a total market share of over 50 percent.
“We are always looking for ways to provide the best experience for our customers, thus, it is a big win for GMovies to have SM Cinema on board since it gives our users from all over the Philippines more options to choose from. With SM Cinema as a partner, GMovies now covers 77 percent of movie theaters nationwide,” said Glenn Estrella, Vice President of Globe Digital Ventures which offers GMovies.
“This is just the start of a more dynamic partnership with Globe and its services. Both our companies are committed to providing a more convenient and rewarding access to entertainment. ePLUS with SM Cinema and GMovies with GCash will work together towards building a cashless society,” said Sahara Jean Garnica, Assistant Vice President, SM Lifestyle Entertainment Inc. managing ePLUS.
GMovies is an all-in-one solution for movie tickets on the go. It is the only platform in the Philippines that aggregates movie ticket booking capabilities for multiple cinema chains. The mobile app allows users not only to purchase movie tickets and reserve seats at their favorite cinema whenever they want and wherever they may be but also keeps them updated with the latest and upcoming blockbusters to hit the theaters. It can be downloaded for free from App Store and Google Play.

To purchase seats from SM Cinema, simply select movie schedule, branch, and preferred seat/s; select GCash as payment option; and log into GCash and confirm transaction. GCash load will automatically be converted to ePLUS movie credits. The user will receive an e-ticket via email which will also be saved in their phone gallery. For ease of access, patrons can just go straight to the cinema and tap their e-ticket at the ePLUS reader.

SM Cinema will go live in GMovies website and Android app beginning June 22.  The iOS app will follow after two weeks.

Meet McCarthy, “The Boss;” Exclusively at SM Cinema

SM Cinema exclusively presents “The Boss” starring Melissa McCarthy (Spy, Bridesmaids, The Heat) as wealthy mogul-turned-felon who attempts to regain her empire through a girl scout brownie business with former assistant, Kristen Bell.

Welcome to the world of Michelle Darnelle: a money-hungry, cut-throat, business magnate who is sent to jail for insider-trading. From the richest woman in the country to a convicted felon with frozen assets, Michelle attempts to climb back to the top by working with her former executive assistant to turn a small Girl Scout brownie project into a full-blown business.

Based on a character created by McCarthy in her early years as a budding comedienne, Michelle Darnelle was a persona performed on stage by Melissa at The Groundlings. “So many great characters have been born at The Groundlings. For me, that character was Michelle Darnel,” says McCarthy. “I loved her so much that I couldn’t let her go and would randomly bring her up and talk about her over the years. She’s a tricky one though, because she is so dynamic, so forceful and so confident. Yet, Michelle is someone who makes you wonder what lies beneath it all when she says, ‘I don’t need anyone, other than myself.”

Comedian and co-producer Chris Henchy says, “It was fantastic to watch Melissa performing this bombastic character on stage, and even then you could see the viability of building a whole movie around that character. Ben and Melissa have always had it in their mind to get to the point where Michelle Darnell could be turned into a full-length feature so it was an easy invitation for us to help make this movie.”

The Boss is a hysterical comedy led by the all-star cast of Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Bell, Peter Dinklage, and Kathy Bates. Produced by the likes of comedy-king Will Ferell, and husband-wife tandem Ben Falcone and Melissa McCarthy, “The Boss” is a ridiculously entertaining treat that will make you think twice about your boss, believe in women empowerment, and possibly leave you craving for brownies all at the same time.

Catch “The Boss” in SM Cinema beginning June 7. For ticket inquiries, visit www.smcinema.com or call 470-2222 more information.

Asia's biggest superstar Lee Min Ho in "Gangnam Blues"

Korean's  biggest superstar Lee Min Ho now proves that he is more than just a pretty face in "Gangnam Blues." In an action and drama role, something that fans used to loving him in romance comedy and action roles will be pleasantly surprised to see — and love Min-ho all the more.

Lee Min Ho is a superstar in the hearts of Filipino fans, with his hit Koreanovelas like Boys Over Flowers (2009), the breakthrough tele-drama that won him several awards including Best New Actor at the 45th Baeksang Arts Awards; City Hunter (2011) for which he was honored as Most Popular Actor at the 48th Baeksang Arts Awards and Outstanding Korean Actor at the 7th Seoul International Drama Awards; The Heirs (2013) for which he earned a nomination for Most Popular Actor at the 50th Baeksang Arts Awards; and Faith, which recently aired on ABS-CBN. He has released two albums, My Everything in 2013 and Song For You in 2014.
]

Gangnam Blues, directed by the iconic Yoo Ha, is the third part of his Gangnam Trilogy. The stories of these movies revolve around Gangnam, the street and the youth.

In Gangnam, the southern part of Seoul, during the height of political corruption, Gangnam Blues is an action "gangster noir" that tells the story of different political organization's clash. The movie has been described as a "gangster noir" set in the 1970s, when Seoul’s Gangnam district was still under development and “political powers and darker organizations collide as they seek to grab control of the influential and exclusive area. During the 70s, Gangnam was being transformed from a vast agricultural area into the modern hub that it is now.

Min-ho and co-star Kim Rae-won play orphans in a slum area, growing up like brothers. When their homes are bulldozed, they get separated, only to meet again years later as heads of rival gangs hired by powerful groups fighting over dominance of Gangnam.

It has scenes reminiscent of Coppola’s The Godfather. Watch this different movie this Wednesday, March 4, released in Tagalized version by Viva Films.

The movie is directed by Yoo Ha. Lee Min Ho plays the character of Kim Jong Dae, who gets caught up in the power struggles and ends up in a battle against his childhood friend and he treated as his brother Yong Ki, played by Kim Rae Won.

We heard this classic hit over and over again, Freddie Aguilar’s OPM classic “Anak” was used in the trailer of Korean superstar Lee Min Ho’s latest movie Gangnam 1970,” which was also titled “Gangnam Blues.”

Anak is played whole twice (the original version), first in the series of scenes showing Min-ho and his gang demolishing their rivals with a haul of bullets) and in the end as the credits roll.

SineAsia Theater is the first Asian tagalized theatre in the country and Lee Min Ho’s Gangnam Blues film is the official grand attraction for the theater’s grand launch and it's red carpet premiere this Tuesday,  March 3 held at the SM Megamall.

The theatre will have an exterior that will show the authenticity of the oriental flicks to be played on the big-screen. The movie will be dedicated to the viewing of never-before-seen, premiere and commercial Asian films.

These films will be “tagalized” for audience to have easier viewing plus the Filipino family will be provide different movie platforms that are exclusively SM Cinema and Walter Mart Cinemas.

SineAsia is a collaboration of two of the country’s entertainment giant to pave the way for the rapid rise in popularity of these films. SMLEI reinvents one dedicated theater in 8 of its SM Cinema branches to make way for SineAsia Theater. Among the chosen malls are SM Megamall, SM Sta. Mesa, SM Fairview, SM Ilo-ilo, SM Bacoor, SM Cebu, SM Manila, and SM North Edsa.

"Geography Club"

A group of students of varying sexual orientation form an after-school club as a discreet way to share their feelings and experiences.

Geography Club is a film adaptation of the award winning novel by Brent Hartinger. The movie is a comedy about teenagers who are discovering their sexual identities.

The high school students create a “Geography Club” which is actually a cover for an LGBT support group where the students can freely talk about their issues and give support with each other. It explores the teen’s hopes, values and dreams while on this journey of going public and offering the whole school support.

“Geography Club" is more of a subtle comedy that is very realistic and tied to events that we can relate to in one way or another.

"Geography Club" is a very nice movie that you should take the time to sit down and watch.

"GEOGRAPHY CLUB" is based on Brent Hartinger's best-selling critically acclaimed novel. "What am I looking for?" 16-year old Russell Middlebrook asks himself as he heads off on his newest adventure. Russell is still going on dates with girls. Kevin will do anything to prevent his football teammates from finding out what he is concealing. Min and Terese tell everyone they're really just good friends. And then there's Ike who can't figure out who he is or who he wants to be. But the truth is too hard to hide-at least from each other-so they form the Geography Club. Nobody else will discover the truth about them as no other students in their right mind would ever want to join as geography sounds so boring. Their secrets will be safe from their classmates. But are they? "Geography Club" is a smart, fast, moving and funny account of contemporary teenagers as they discover their own sexual identities, dreams and values and not merely live out their parents' desires and ambitions.
