Ingram Micro Philippines Celebrates 13th Anniversary; Bolsters its Best Workplace journey in the Better Normal

Ingram Micro Philippines’ Leadership Team leads the ceremonial toast to celebrate its 13 years in the Philippines and three consecutive years of recognition for being one of the Best Workplaces™ in the Philippines by Great Place to Work® Institute. (From L-R: VP for GBS Eric de Pedro, director for digital ops Dave McFarland, sr. vp for GBS Jana Vondran, director for hr Sam White and director for professional services Kanishka Sinha)

Ingram Micro, a global technology and supply chain company, celebrated 13 years in the Philippines in its first hybrid event called 13est Workplace Ever 13th Anniversary Celebration, recently held at the Hilton Manila Grand Ballroom. The event was a commemoration of more than a decade of Filipino excellence and continued commitment to helping companies “Realize the Promise of Technology.” It also marked three straight years of recognition as one of the Best Workplaces in the Philippines by Great Place to Work®.

“This year’s anniversary celebration was extra special as it was the first time we were able to celebrate with our employees in a hybrid setting since the start of the pandemic,” shared Eric de Pedro, vice president, Global Business Services and Philippines Country Leader. “It was amazing to see the joy and energy of our employees being together in the same room and bonding in a way that is totally different from just celebrating with teammates across the laptop screen. All of us were affected by the pandemic in many ways, and as we slowly shift to Better Normal, we want to treat our employees to experiences we know they will appreciate.”

The variety show-themed, month-long celebration began in May and culminated with the hybrid anniversary celebration in June. Hosted by Robi Domingo, employees enjoyed exciting prizes and were treated to performances by Unique Salonga and OPM legend Bamboo Mañalac. Ingram Micro Philippines also launched its campaign called Greatness Anywhere, to promote their commitment to being a Great Place to Work® amidst the workplace revolution brought on by the impact of COVID-19.

“As we embrace a Better Normal mindset, our evolving workplace is defined by balancing safety, flexibility, purpose, and collaboration,” Eric quipped. “Through meaningful actions, instead of just day to day transactions, we are able to foster trust and genuine care that goes beyond the screen. We look forward to creating more new shared experiences, in the office and at home.”

As a global leader in technology and cloud solutions and the business helping power the world’s biggest technology brands, Ingram Micro has the ability to serve 90% of the global population, with sales in 200 countries covering 6 continents. The momentum continues as Ingram Micro accelerates its efforts on business transformation and digitalization, and the Manila facility plays a pivotal role in its unrelenting growth.

In addition, the Manila center recently held a four-day Career Carnival recruitment event in early July at The Peninsula Hotel, Makati City. The festival, themed recruitment expo, gathered more than 1,000 applicants from all over the Greater Manila area and neighboring provinces.

“Filipinos continue to be of great demand globally, and the success of our recent recruitment event serves as proof of Ingram Micro’s commitment to developing and promoting the Filipino talent,” said Sam White, director for HR. “It’s been 13 years since we launched our Shared Service center here in Manila, and despite the changing landscapes because of the pandemic, there are many opportunities for growth on the horizon. The post pandemic world ushers a new era, and we are more than excited to take this journey with our employees and shape the future with them.”

The FWD Tacloban Hub opened in November 2020 amidst the pandemic and proceeded with its operations and local recruitment. With the easing of pandemic-related restrictions this year, FWD held festivities featuring a cultural dance by local pintados (tattooed “warriors”) that Tacloban is known for.

Li Hao Zhuang, FWD Life Insurance President and CEO said the resilience that Taclobanons have shown against difficult events, from typhoon Yolanda to the pandemic, shows the positive spirit of Filipinos.
A motorcade converges right in front of the Tacloban City Center Park where the new FWD business hub is located.

“We celebrate this spirit through the new Tacloban hub to provide better access to life and financial insurance that aims to help Taclobanons get back on their feet and improve their lives,” Li Hao said. “Our newest hub in Tacloban motivates us to continue to work to reach more Filipinos. The hub opened during a challenging time, but we celebrate living with the people of Tacloban and we remain optimistic.”

FWD continues to innovate with product propositions that cater to the evolving needs and lifestyles of Filipinos. Li Hao affirms that the new FWD Tacloban Hub allows Taclobanons and the rest of the Eastern Visayas region to experience a brand of insurance that is easy to know, easy to buy, easy to claim, easy to engage, and easy to love.

Jun Marasigan, FWD Life Insurance Chief Agency Officer added that the new Tacloban hub continues to recruit Taclobanons as FWD agents. He emphasized that FWD has a strong agency team with multiple Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT) awardees serving Tacloban. MDRT is the global benchmark of excellence in the life insurance and financial services industries.

“Our agents have grown, performing well and creating an impressive track record in servicing the people of Tacloban,” Jun said. “We strive to support Tacloban and the rest of Eastern Visayas. We see a huge potential in the region and plan to grow aggressively, and we’re looking for talents to join us as financial advisors. We’re committed to work towards reaching and covering more Filipinos and change the way they feel about insurance.”
FWD Tacloban hub is accepting local talents to hire as financial advisors.

How do you spend your first paycheck? A finance expert weighs in

When one begins to start earning their own money, one of the most daunting tasks is learning how to manage it. Senior Financial Advisor, Certified Associate Financial Planner, and content creator Antonette Aquino shares tips on how to build good financial habits for yourself as early as your first job, or if you’ve been working several years and want to improve on your money management:

  1. Prioritize spending on needs and avoid splurging on things that will not bring you value in the future. Aquino also says that we can treat ourselves once in a while to enjoy the fruits of our hard work…for as long as it doesn’t jeopardize our future.
  1. Pay yourself first. Before paying for bills, commit to setting a percentage of your income to savings and investments. This includes putting money into your investment accounts and buying insurance. Make sure to do this consistently!
  1. Use the bucketing method to separate your finances. For people who are still trying to get the hang of saving, Aquino recommends trying out the bucketing method which allows you to have a clearer view of your spending and saving habits when all your funds are separated. Instead of having all of your money in one savings account, It is best to have four kinds of accounts:
    1. Operating Fund - Allocate money for recurring expenses such as quarterly, monthly, or annual bills in this account.
    2. Emergency Fund – Allocate 20% of your income to this account for unforeseen expenses such as a medical emergency or a job loss.
    3. Financial Freedom Fund – This account is for the achievement of life goals and dreams, which include retiring early or going back to school.
    4. Happy Account – This account is for all of your leisurely expenses like travel.
  1. When you earn more, don’t immediately upgrade your lifestyle. If you continuously level up your belongings and lifestyle every time you earn more money, you will never be able to hit your targets. Remind yourself to live below your means until you’ve begun to hit them.
  1. The longer you put off investing, the harder you’ll need to work to get to the same level of financial freedom as someone who starts investing earlier. If you start saving and investing as soon as you start earning, you will reap the benefits of financial freedom sooner rather than later.
  1. The importance of saving money is simple: It allows you to enjoy greater security in your life. If you have cash set aside for emergencies, you have a fallback should something unexpected happen. Once you’re in the habit of saving, you’ll forget there was ever a time when you didn’t save. In this area of life, the habits you build will make all the difference.

CSMC partners with OCTA and Go Negosyo for webicon on PH’s COVID-19 exit strategy

Cardinal Santos Medical Center (CSMC), together with the OCTA Research Group and GO Negosyo, recently facilitated a relevant and pressing discussion on the country’s progress through the COVID-19 pandemic in its latest webicon entitled “COVID-19: From Pandemic to Endemic". The webicon was held via Zoom and Facebook Livestream last July 28, Thursday.

Present as speakers were OCTA Research fellows Prof. Ranjit Singh Rye and Dr. Guido David, GO Negosyo Founder Mr. Jose Maria “Joey” Concepcion, National Task Force Against COVID-19 Special Adviser Dr. Teodoro “Teddy” Herbosa, Health Reform Advocate Dr. Anthony “Tony” Leachon, and Infectious Disease Specialist Dr. Rontgene Solante. CSMC’s very own Dr. Paul Salandanan joined in as a reactor, and the event was facilitated by CSMC’s Vice President and Head of Human Resources, Ms. Lucky Diaz-Tiozon.

The webicon opened with a discussion from Rye and Concepcion, taking points from the recent State of the Nation Address (SONA) given by Pres. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. Rye and Concepcion talked about what strategies will help the country move forward from an economic standpoint, and how clear, effective, and relevant policies can mitigate COVID-19 and sustain economic recovery.

David presented a scientific, research-based analysis on recent COVID-19 trends, comparing the Philippines’ current COVID-related statistics to numbers during previous surges. Solante, on the other hand, provided a look into the various strains of the virus, what differentiates them from each other, and the on-ground experiences of clinicians in handling it.

Herbosa touched on the challenges faced by various sectors because of the pandemic, and gave his recommendations on potential exit strategies that can be explored in order to better prepare for potential threats in the future. Leachon followed this up by tackling what measures ought to be observed in order to move forward from the pandemic, while Salandanan offered his own insights as CSMC’s resident Infectious Disease Specialist.

The webicon was concluded through an open forum session with all the panelists and speakers, where they stamped out any misconceptions regarding vaccines and COVID-19 testing, and stressed the importance of working together in safeguarding the health and well-being of the Filipino people.

“What is important is capacity building,” said Herbosa. “We need to build up our capacity in terms of policy formulations in vaccines, emergencies and pandemics.”

“As we move from pandemic to endemic, one of the key elements of any national exit strategy [is to] really ensure access to quality testing,” added Rye. “Apart from expanding treatment facilities [and making them accessible], we really need to deal with testing. The state has to [find ways to] provide quality antigen testing and [improve the] reporting of these results.”

“Getting the first and second booster will protect our healthcare utilization because we are [preventing] people [from] developing the more severe form of COVID, especially if [they] have comorbidities,” said Solante.

“The way forward is really informing our public more so that [they] can make better decisions. It is important for us to come up with a holistic and comprehensive plan for everything, whether it is expanded testing and treatment, information campaigns, [or] even just sustaining our booster and vaccine programs,” stressed Rye. “We need to come up with a comprehensive national COVID strategy. That is the challenge for this new administration.”
