Sun Life and Beyond Sport foster healthier communities with grand opening of revamped basketball court in Calauan, Laguna

Sun Life Philippines and Sun Life Financial-Philippines Foundation, Inc., in line with their commitment to help Filipinos live healthier lives, recently unveiled a newly refurbished basketball court in the Legacy of Light Village, a resettlement model community that the Sun Life Foundation helped develop in Calauan, Laguna. This is part of the “Hoops + Health” program, a PHP 40 million partnership with Beyond Sport, a global sport-for-social-change organization. The program aims to leverage the power of basketball to encourage physical activity and promote healthier lifestyles by renovating basketball courts across Asia.

The inauguration event, held on February 28, 2024, at the Legacy of Light Village basketball court in Calauan, was attended by Sun Life executives, Sun Life brand ambassador Donny Pangilinan, Beyond Sport representatives, residents of Calauan, and national media.

The basketball court has been transformed with fresh coats of paint, upgraded facilities, and new, state-of-the-art basketball hoops. More than just a physical renovation, this initiative represents Sun Life’s commitment to fostering healthier communities by improving access to physical activity. The revitalized court provides a safe and accessible space for individuals of all ages to engage in basketball and other physical activities, promoting overall health and well-being.

In addition, the “Hoops + Health” program will deliver an educational program for local coaches to learn about nutrition, physical activity, and protecting mental well-being. These coaches will then develop a basketball program to engage the youth in the community.

This initiative builds on Sun Life’s 3x3 Charity Challenge, held in August 2023, which raised funds for capacity-building support, program development grants, and infrastructure revitalization projects, including the basketball court renovation in Calauan.

“At Sun Life, we are dedicated to empowering individuals and communities to achieve holistic health and wellness,” said Carla Gonzalez-Chong, Chief Client Experience and Marketing Officer of Sun Life Philippines. “By partnering with Beyond Sport, we are harnessing the unique power of basketball to not only encourage physical activity but also to foster community spirit and contribute to a healthier future for Filipinos.”

“Sport serves as a powerful instrument for positive social change,” added Beyond Sport Executive Director, Fred Turner. “We are proud to partner with Sun Life on this impactful project, as we transformed this basketball court into a vibrant space where the youth can develop their skills and lead healthier lives.”

By making physical activity enjoyable and readily available, Sun Life aims to serve as a catalyst for adopting healthier lifestyle choices, to potentially impact the generations to come.

Inverter Na ‘Yan: Home Credit’s Guide to Energy-Efficient Appliances this Summer

As the summer season slowly rolls in, we are once again experiencing the intense heat that accompanies this time of the year. To stay comfortable during this hot weather, we rely more on appliances to cool down, leading to increased energy use.
----------------------------------
Gear up for exclusive deals on your preferred inverter appliances this dry season
----------------------------------

This is why we often consider efficiency a crucial factor when selecting our home appliances. A 2022 study by Clasp, titled “From Informational to Comparative: The New Philippine Energy Label,” revealed that, particularly for appliances like air conditioners, energy efficiency is the top priority for 86 percent of Filipino consumers, followed by durability and affordability.

With this trend, the use of inverter technology in appliances becomes a priority. An advantage of inverter appliances is that they intelligently control the motor’s speed and power consumption based on the requirements for cooling or even washing to reduce energy use, contributing to the reduction of electricity bills.

If you are considering switching to appliances equipped with inverter technology this summer season, Home Credit, one of the country’s leading consumer finance companies, offers a guide to household devices you can replace for an energy-efficient lifestyle.

Beat the summer heat with inverter air conditioners

Inverter air conditioners are unlike traditional ones which operate at full power until a specific space is cool enough and then shut down. These energy-efficient appliances run with special motors that can adjust their speed, maintaining a room's temperature without the energy-consuming process of constantly turning it on and off.

You can experience this incredible feature with models like the Carrier 1.0HP Inverter Window Type Air Conditioner and the Samsung 1.0HP WindFree Split Type Inverter Air Conditioner that offer remarkable cooling to combat the summer heat while also prioritizing energy efficiency.

Keep your refreshments cool with inverter refrigerators

Like inverter air conditioners, refrigerators equipped with this technology boast enhanced energy efficiency thanks to a motor that automatically changes its speed to match the cooling needs—preventing unnecessary on-and-off cycles. When the temperature inside the refrigerator rises above the set point, the compressor slows down, maintaining consistent cooling while minimizing energy consumption.

For those in search of inverter refrigerators to keep their daily refreshments and food supplies cool even in intense heat without the concern of higher electricity bills, consider options such as the Panasonic Two Door No Frost Inverter with Econavi Technology Refrigerator (9.5 cu ft) and the LG 7.2 cu ft Two Door Smart Inverter No Frost Refrigerator.

Optimize your laundry routine with inverter washing machines

To take your pursuit of energy efficiency to the next level, you can also incorporate inverter washing machines into your laundry routine. With inverter technology, their performance adapts to the size and type of laundry, enabling you to use only the necessary amount of water and energy for each load.

You can enjoy this performance from the likes of Whirlpool 8.5kg Top Load Inverter Washing Machine and LG 7.5kg Top Load Smart Inverter Washing Machine. By utilizing inverter washing machines, you can further advance your energy-efficient goals.

Watch out for exciting deals this summer season!

This upcoming summer season, Home Credit is offering fantastic deals to help you realize these inverter appliances, starting March 15 to May 31, 2024. Be sure to mark your calendars to not miss this incredible opportunity.

Stay tuned for installment deals on a range of products, including air conditioners, refrigerators, washing machines, and more. These exciting offers will be available on Shoppingmall.ph.

Home Credit Philippines signs additional 7B Loan Credit Facility with BPI

Home Credit Philippines (HCPH) recently signed an agreement for an additional P7 billion loan facility with Ayala-led Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI), making BPI the company’s biggest creditor with a total of P13.5 billion combined credit line facilities.
(From left) BPI executives: John-C Syquia, Institutional Banking Head, and TG Limcaoco, President and CEO; Home Credit executives: Zdenek Jankovsky, Treasury and Funding Director, and Patrick Peter Santos, Head of Funding

This is the third loan credit facility extended by BPI to HCPH, following a P1 billion facility in December 2022, P4 billion in August 2023, and an additional P1.5 billion in November 2023 from Robinsons Bank Corporation; following its recent merger with BPI.

Home Credit is the largest consumer finance company in the Philippines. As of end-2023, it has served 10.4 million customers all over the country through a selection of affordable and accessible financing products.

“We at BPI are committed to accelerating our efforts to elevate financial inclusion in the Philippines. We are glad to support Home Credit by providing tailored solutions to enable their financial inclusion initiatives to thrive and at the same time, improving the quality of life for Filipinos, enabling them to do more. This forms part of our vision to help build a better Philippines—one family, one community at a time,” said BPI President and CEO TG Limcaoco.

“This additional loan credit facility to Home Credit, extended by no less than BPI, the first bank in the Philippines and the Southeast Asian Region, is a strong testament to the strong performance and stability of Home Credit’s business in the country as a leading consumer finance company,” Zdenek Jankovsky, HCPH director and treasurer, said.
