As portions of the country revert to stricter quarantine measures, Delivery riders can #ScanToPay for safer and more rewarding transactions with PayMaya

With stricter quarantine measures set to be imposed in parts of the country once again, many will be relying on delivery services for their everyday essential needs. To help ensure the safety of delivery riders, PayMaya is encouraging them to use contactless payments via PayMaya QR in partner merchants, which will also give them additional benefits and rewards as well.

By using PayMaya QR for their purchases, delivery riders are able to enjoy a safer payment experience which reduces the risk of transmitting the virus through cash handling - thereby adding a layer of protection for themselves and their customers.

Apart from the safety that PayMaya offers delivery riders, they are also rewarded each time they #ScanToPay for their customers' orders or when they fill up their tanks at partner establishments because they can get up to 100% cashback (maximum of P500), which can easily add to their savings and income.

“Since the start of the quarantine, riders have become our 'delivery heroes' – braving the frontlines and bringing daily essentials straight to our doorstep so we can stay safe at home. We’re honored to offer our contactless payment solutions to these essential service personnel so they can remain safe and even get rewarded as they fulfill their customers' transactions around the metro,” said Raymund Villanueva, Head of PayMaya QR Ecosystems

Paying via PayMaya QR has been made quick and simple for delivery riders. All they have to do is scan the PayMaya QR code displayed at the counter or at the One by PayMaya device in partner merchants, key in the amount they need to pay and hit confirm. With this payment method, there is no need to exchange cash or card at the counter, which also helps protect the service crew of partner merchants and establishments.

PayMaya QR is available at the biggest restaurants, supermarkets, pharmacies and gasoline stations all over the country – including Jollibee, McDonald’s, KFC, Mang Inasal, Chowking, Greenwich, Red Ribbon, Goldilocks, Landers, Robinsons Supermarket, Rustans Supermaket, Shopwise, Super8, Mercury Drug, Watsons, Petron, and so much more.

For riders who don’t have a PayMaya account yet, they can easily download and register for free and even receive perks for it. When they register using the promo code RIDER, they get a P50 reward, which they can receive after they upgrade and add money to their PayMaya account.

JoyRide and Happy Move, a motorcycle ride-hailing firm that has innovated to become a delivery service, tie up with PLDT Enterprise to equip their drivers and riders with communication and connectivity solutions they can utilize for daily operations.

During the enhanced community quarantine, JoyRide and Happy Move partnered with different LGUs to give opportunities to tricycle drivers for alternative livelihood as delivery riders for the said apps. Around 10,000 tricycle drivers and other riders have been given livelihood, as JoyRide and Happy Move saw the need to change its platform to point-to-point (P2P) delivery and concierge service (JoyRide Pabili).

“Our latest project with the local government units, the tricycle drivers conversion to independent delivery service providers, is a further testament to the commitment of JoyRide and Happy Move to assist public and private entities in creating jobs and livelihood opportunities during this pandemic. JoyRide and Happy Move will continue to be a true partner and “kasundo” of the Filipino in good times and in bad,” said Noli Eala, JoyRide Vice President for Corporate Affairs.

During the enhanced community quarantine, JoyRide and Happy Move partnered with different LGUs to give opportunities to tricycle drivers for alternative livelihood as delivery riders for the said apps.

Through its new partnership with PLDT Enterprise, JoyRide and Happy Move riders and bikers will now enjoy the benefits of Smart Bizload—where they can receive prepaid loads quickly using the platform to aid their communication requirements while doing deliveries.

PLDT Enterprise, together with Soprano, also provided Joyride and Happy Move with Smart Messaging Suite Service focused on enabling secure registration of new Joyride customers as well as text blasts for their customers.

“We at PLDT Enterprise continue to commit to being of service to Filipinos while fighting COVID-19,” said Jovy Hernandez, ePLDT President & CEO and SVP Head for PLDT and Smart Enterprise Business Groups. “These services will enable Joyride and Happy Move to blast news and announcements to our riders and help make their delivery service accessible and efficiently to those who need it.”

JoyRide and Happy Move have recently widened its ecosystem by tying up with local government units (LGUs) such as Antipolo, Valenzuela, Binangonan and Bacoor, to partnering with local institutions to broaden its rider base.

“Among the many sectors of society most affected by the coronavirus pandemic has been the motorcycle taxi service sector. The need to provide immediate relief to our thousands of rider partners forced JoyRide and Happy Move to pivot our business model to a multi service, on-demand mobile delivery application,” Eala added.

This initiative is another addition to the ongoing efforts of PLDT Enterprise in enabling the private sector with connectivity and digital solutions amid the challenges posed by the community quarantine.

“We applaud JoyRide and Happy Move that amidst the job losses these past months, they have given hope to many riders. Their delivery services have been in great demand since the pandemic, and PLDT Enterprise’s solutions have enabled JoyRide and Happy Move to ensure strong connectivity and reliable service,” Hernandez added.

QC partners with Lalamove launches LalaJeep, for livelihood of jeepney drivers

The Quezon City local government in partnership with Lalamove launched LalaJeep, the latest addition to the latter's fleet which will cater to the delivery needs of QC residents and help jeepney drivers who were displaced due to the community quarantine.

With thousands of jeepney drivers in Quezon City, Mayor Joy Belmonte said the income from LalaJeep would be a big help to those who will sign up.

“Since our jeepney drivers are directly affected by the continuing community quarantine, this LalaJeep program is a welcome initiative which will provide alternative livelihood for them. We are grateful to Lalamove for piloting this program in Quezon City.”

The program will also provide a more affordable option for business owners who are heavily reliant on the delivery app for the delivery of their products.

Small Business and Cooperatives Development and Promotions Office (SBCDPO) Head Mona Yap shared how LalaJeep will also help businesses in their logistics. “As many businesses are transitioning to online which demands delivery services, this LalaJeep will be a great support not just for jeepney drivers but also for small businesses.”

Dannah Majarocon, the Managing Director of Lalamove Philippines said, “This project is aligned with Lalamove’s goal to empower communities and uplift the livelihood of those who are heavily affected by the pandemic. This will allow our services better to suit every business owner and day-to-day user’s delivery needs. This project is a testament that with governmental support, we can deliver possibilities faster.”

The Task Force on Transportation and Traffic Management (TFTTM) will screen and assist in the registration of the jeepney drivers while the SBCDPO shall facilitate group training sessions for their jeepney driver constituents, to enable them to understand and navigate the delivery app. During the preparation of the launch, around 200 jeepney drivers signed up to be part of the LalaJeep fleet. With the alternative source of income, both the Quezon City local government and Lalamove hope that the LalaJeep project will help keep jeepney drivers afloat until they are allowed by the national government to ply their respective routes.
