TWG sanctions Grab-Move It to rightsize fleet, stop operations in Cebu, Cagayan de Oro amid accidents

The Motorcycle Taxi Technical Working Group (MC Taxi TWG) has imposed sanctions on Grab-Move It, the Grab-operated motorcycle taxi platform, for repeatedly violating government-imposed fleet limits and failing to comply with mandatory reporting rules under the motorcycle taxi pilot study.

In a formal order, the TWG directed Grab-Move It to rightsize its fleet to what has been allocated to them by the government and stop operations in areas where they have not been granted authority to operate, such as Cebu and Cagayan de Oro.

Grab-Move It has also been directed to fully comply with reportorial requirements on activation, deactivation, and reactivation of riders.

The sanction stemmed from a December 2024 Show Cause Order, where motorcycle taxi companies have been asked to explain allegations of breaching its rider allocations.

Records submitted to the TWG confirm that Grab-Move It was allowed 6,836 motorcycle taxi units by the government, but it was discovered that it operates with at least 14,662 riders— more than double its allowed number, and deemed “colorum” units against the law.

Grab-Move It was also found to have failed to report rider status changes, a key compliance requirement. The company did not refute this lapse in its response.

The TWG noted that these violations resulted in thousands of unauthorized motorcycle taxis on the road, raising concerns over safety, transparency, and regulatory oversight.

The company was likewise ordered to halt operations in Cebu and Cagayan de Oro, where it was operating without any approval or allocation from the TWG.

The Motorcycle Taxi TWG warned Grab-Move It that failure to comply with the directives will lead to further regulatory measures, including suspension of its authority to operate.

Aside from its failure to follow regulatory procedures, Grab-Move It has been criticized over a series of accidents and viral complaints involving reckless rider behavior, putting their onboarding practices and enforcement of safety standards in question.

Sen. Raffy Tulfo, chairperson of the Senate Committee on Public Services, also called the attention of Grab for the policy requiring drivers to shoulder the 20% fare discounts granted to students, senior citizens, and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).

The Philippine Competition Commission (PCC) revealed during a Senate probe that Grab has already been fined millions of pesos for fare-related violations.

Since 2018, Grab has been penalized with fines amounting to ₱86.7 million, including ₱16.15 million for fare standards violations and driver cancellations

Grab Philippines Celebrates Earth Day 2025, Kicks Off Mangrove Planting Project in La Union

DULAO, LA UNIONGrab Philippines has planted the first 1,000 of 80,000 pledged mangrove trees in Dulao, La Union, marking an early milestone in its newly launched Green Programme. Done in celebration of Earth Day 2025, the initiative underscores the superapp’s broader push to embed environmental sustainability into the country’s ride-hailing and on-demand delivery industries.

Grab Philippines Director for Strategy Greg Camacho [1st from right] and Grab’s Head of Group Sustainability Iris Chang [2nd from right] spearheaded the planting of the initial batch of mangrove trees in Dulao, La Union, together with volunteer Grab users, driver-partners, and employees

The Green Programme, which was launched in the Philippines in February 2025, empowers users to play an active role in environmental stewardship through tech. By enabling the Green Program toggle on the Grab App, users get to contribute PHP 2 for every GrabCar ride and PHP 1 for every GrabFood or GrabMart delivery transaction.

GrabForGood Forest in Dulao, La Union

One of the flagship initiatives to emerge from the program is the GrabForGood Forest in Dulao, La Union — a planned five-hectare mangrove enrichment site set to nurture thousands of mangrove seedlings. The initiative is a collaboration between Grab, the Dulao Fishpond and Fishpen Producer’s Cooperative, the Philippine-based sustainability NGO Fostering Education and Environment for Development (FEED), and the environmental tech platform EcoMatcher.

La Union's coastal village of Dulao is among the communities in the country that grapple with escalating water and food security threats driven by climate change, notably rising sea levels, and intensifying typhoons. Mangrove enrichment has become a pivotal strategy to fortify natural defenses. This initiative is a cornerstone of the "Ridge to Reef" (R2R) strategy, championed by FEED and Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University (DMMMSU), alongside various private, public, academic, NGO, and community-led efforts in La Union. This collective endeavor fosters an enabling environment for inclusive, integrated, multi-stakeholder collaboration aimed at sustainable development. Mangrove forests are crucial habitats for marine biodiversity and enhance the livelihoods of Dulao’s fishing community.
The Dulao Fishpond and Fishpen Producer's Cooperative is at the forefront of sustainability efforts in their community, emphasizing the critical role of environmental action and conservation in supporting their livelihood and daily lives.

The project kicked off with the community mangrove-planting event led by volunteer Grab users, driver-partners, employees, representatives from partner organizations, and the local community — a grassroots push to anchor long-term resilience. FEED and the Dulao Fishpond and Fishpen Cooperative took an active role in facilitating the orientation, providing a comprehensive introduction on proper mangrove planting techniques, and explaining the positive impact of this initiative on the community.

Delailah Lacadue, Head of Dulao Fishpond and Fishpen Producer's Cooperative, notes, “We wish to express our gratitude to Grab, FEED, DMMMSU, the local government of Aringay, EcoMatcher, and to all stakeholders for this mangrove enrichment project. This will surely help us in terms of environmental protection and livelihood as well. Kami po ay kasama ninyo sa pangangalaga ng Kalikasan para sa mga susunod pang henerasyon. We, the local community, commit to being your active partner for sustainability.”

“This is just the beginning — a pivotal first step in our long-term commitment to environmental sustainability,” said Greg Camacho, Director for Strategy at Grab Philippines. “The Green Programme is grounded in a simple yet powerful idea: when eco-friendly choices are made easy, inclusive, and accessible, they can inspire real positive impact for communities like Dulao. The planting of this first wave of mangroves, made possible by initial contributions via the Green Programme, proves that climate action doesn’t have to be distant or difficult—it can be seamlessly integrated into the daily lives of millions.”

The partnership with EcoMatcher enables tree tracking, ensuring transparency in where contributions are directed. “For sustainability-minded consumers, transparency is key,” said Bas Fransen, CEO of EcoMatcher. “Partnering with Grab Philippines through the Green Programme allows us to bring our advocacy for transparency-driven sustainability closer to Filipino consumers in a meaningful way.”

With growing participation among users, the leading superapp is geared to scale the environmental impact of the Green Programme and turn individual contributions into lasting, collective change in more areas across the country.

Grab Offers Free Shuttle Rides for Homebound Filipinos

The Grab Be Present Bus assists passengers in getting home this holiday season, helping them avoid potential challenges with accessing regular transport options and ride-hailing services amid peak in travel demand

Grab Philippines, in partnership with the New NAIA Infra Corp. (NNIC) and OneAyala, is providing free shuttle rides for Filipinos arriving at Terminals 2 and 3 of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport – the busiest terminals this holiday season.

The Grab Be Present Bus provides convenient point-to-point transportation for Overseas Filipino Workers and other domestic travelers, connecting NAIA Terminals 2 and 3 directly to the OneAyala Transport Hub.

Ride-hailing platforms in the Philippines are facing increased pressure this holiday season as surging demand collides with persistent challenges such as traffic congestion and supply-demand imbalance. Grab Philippines’ historical data shows that the number of ride bookings grows to as much as 45% in the second and third weeks of December, directly impacting the reliability of the existing fleet of Transport Network Vehicle Services (TNVS) drivers to render their services.

With the Grab Be Present Bus connecting passengers from the airport to a hub that houses other mass transit options, these concerns are effectively mitigated – ensuring more Filipinos can reach their destinations this season.

The Grab Be Present Bus free shuttle services will be available from December 12 to 14 and December 19 to 21, 2024, operating daily from 1:00 PM to 11:00 PM. Passengers who wish to avail of the service can find Grab marshalls stationed at the arrival halls who will be ushering them to the pick-up point.

They can also directly proceed to the pick-up points located at Terminal 3 (Bay 4) and Terminal 2 (Bay 5). To board the bus, passengers simply need to register and present their Grab app to the marshalls.

Grab PH Opens Doors for Future Business, STEM, Sustainability Leaders

The leading superapp is now accepting new GrabScholar applications

Grab Philippines Country Head Ronald Roda [center] spearheads the
official launch of GrabScholar Batch 3

Grab Philippines, together with partner and co-facilitator Bagosphere, is once again ready to welcome a fresh batch of applications for its GrabScholar program. This new cohort will mark the third generation of Filipino GrabScholars since the program's official launch in the country last 2023.

GrabScholar is a three-pronged program that covers full-time college scholarships, bursary support for educational needs, and a career acceleration pathway for aspiring Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) professionals.

The latest iteration of GrabScholar covers full-ride merit-based college scholarships specifically for three- and four-year degrees in Business, Sustainability, and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics)[1] at any college or university in the Philippines. It also extends bursary support from Kindergarten through Grade 12.

With these updates, the leading superapp intends to create professional pathways for the next generation of leaders in the abovementioned fields. Grab is geared to provide more meaningful support to its college scholars by connecting them to training, mentorship, internship, and potential employment opportunities within the company.

GrabScholar is part of Grab’s broader GrabForGood initiative, aimed at creating opportunities for social progress and growth for more Filipinos, and Southeast Asia at large.

Grab Philippines Country Head Ronald Roda shares, “I am fortunate to have had the privilege of accessing education through scholarships. As the son of educators and a scholar from elementary to graduate school, I deeply understand the transformative power of educational opportunities. Through the GrabScholar Program, we will empower more of our young and hardworking Filipino students with access to quality education. We hope that this program will widen their path towards achieving their dreams.”

In this batch, Grab will be awarding full-ride merit-based scholarships to six freshmen college students and providing School Expenses Aid worth PHP 2,500 to 300 K-12 students. The leading superapp is also co-funding scholarships for a fellowship program for 150 aspiring BPO professionals.

Among the scholars from the program’s second batch is Sophia Sy, a college GrabScholar taking up BS Medical Technology at PHINMA-St. Jude College Manila and the niece of GrabCar driver-partner Mary Sy. Sophia shares, "There are many Filipino students like me who are determined to achieve our aspirations. However, despite their passion and hard work, many lack access to essential opportunities to pursue academic goals. GrabScholar has bridged this gap for me, and I express my gratitude through my hard work and commitment to excellence as I finish my Bachelor’s Degree – a step closer to my dream of becoming a medical doctor."

"Sophia’s story is a testament to how Grab’s positive impact on its driver community goes beyond just providing livelihood. It extends to transforming the lives of their loved ones for the better," Roda adds. Sophia joins the community of Filipino GrabScholars, which is now composed of 12 full-ride college scholars, over 600 bursary awardees, and 300 BPO Skills training graduates.

Interested applicants for the third batch of GrabScholar can visit this link for more information.

Vote for more merchants under more categories

Over 20 prestigious awards are up for grabs, waiting to be claimed by your favorite GrabFood merchants. Every order you place is a vote, a show of support for your beloved restaurants.

In the National Icons category, we're on the hunt for the best in fried chicken, pasta, burgers, pizza, and more. The nominated items with the highest number of orders will be named Platinum winners, earning a spotlight in an array of in-app features and other media platforms. Not to be outdone, any dish that reaches 10,000 orders will be honored with Gold status.

But that's not all! We're also recognizing fan favorites in Asian, Filipino, and dessert categories, as well as regional food brands that have captured our hearts.

Lastly, for the first time, GrabMart merchants are joining the fray, with our esteemed partners like Coca-Cola, Knorr, Lady’s Choice, Mondelez, and Reckitt/Mead Johnson presenting their own awards.

A Much Appreciated Stamp of Approval

In 2023, hundreds of merchants participated in the GrabFood FanFaves awards, giving deserving merchants the nation’s stamp of approval for their most beloved food and drink items as voted by dedicated GrabFood users.

Millions of users were reached by the campaign, which awarded merchants across different cuisines, offerings, and areas who shared how impactful FanFaves was on their business. Cebu-based Jafar’s Shawarma Station said that “[Being recognized at GrabFood FanFaves 2023] was a wonderful way to highlight our brand as part of a collective community of services and products. Sales, traffic count, and brand awareness increased beyond our expectations. In fact, we had some of our highest sales to date because of the event.” In Mindanao, Davao’s WOW Lechon proudly shared that “securing the Top 1 spot in Mindanao really put us on the map, driving a surge in orders and drawing in many new customers eager to taste our lechon. It gave us a fantastic chance to connect with our community and solidify our reputation as the go-to place for lechon.”

These 2023 highlights attest to GrabFood FanFaves’ positive impact on the business of Filipino entrepreneurs as enabled by its highly active base of foodies.

Grab launches Advance Booking, eases airport transport for PH travelers with guaranteed on-time rides

Hitting the road whether for leisure travel across the Philippines or sealing business deals overseas can be a daunting endeavor. The pre-travel stress between the epic suitcase shuffle and the documents paranoia can be too much to handle – and this is even without considering the challenge of getting to the airport on time or arranging transportation.

Understanding this dilemma, Grab – the partner of every Filipino for safe, convenient, and reliable mobility – launches its latest transportation service Advance Booking. Grab Advance Booking guarantees on-time rides to the airport via the GrabAirport fleet, ticking off yet another item on the travelers’ checklist.

Grab Philippines Head of Mobility EJ Dela Vega shares, “Having served the Philippines for over a decade, we at Grab have deepened our understanding of the distinct needs of our Filipino passengers. One such need that stands out is their requirement for reliable airport transportation. Recognizing this, we are enhancing the experience of airport rides on Grab with the launch of Advance Booking. Our new Grab Advance Booking product goes beyond offering mere airport transfers – it provides travelers the peace of mind they deserve. This new service has been engineered to have guaranteed on-time rides every time, enabling every Filipino traveler to leave their homes with the confidence they'll have a ride to make their flight on time.”

Grab Advance Booking: Guaranteed On-Time Rides, Every Time

The worries about catching a flight in the wee hours of the morning or during the peak of the metro bustle are a thing of the past with Grab Advance Booking. This new Grab mobility service touts guaranteed rides every time.

Plan as early as 7 Days ahead:  With Grab's Advance Booking feature, passengers can effortlessly plan their journeys well in advance. The reservation window is flexible, allowing bookings to be made as early as seven days or as late as two hours before the scheduled ride.

Stay Stress-free with On-Time Pick-up Assurance: The Grab Advance Booking driver-partners are guaranteed to be on time. In instances of service disruption, the Grab platform swiftly and seamlessly reassigns the ride to an alternative driver-partner, ensuring a successful completion of the trip for the passenger. To ensure fairness, a Php-100 courtesy credit will be offered to passengers if the driver arrives late for a pre-scheduled ride.

No need to panic with extended wait time: Further enhancing passenger convenience, a 15-minute grace period is implemented for Advance Booking rides. This allows drivers to accommodate minor delays, while passengers encountering unforeseen circumstances have additional time to reach the pick-up location.

Booking in a Breeze

Accessing Grab Advance Booking is a walk in the park. Passengers can select  “Advance Booking” under the Grab transport page. They can then enter the date and time of their ride, along with their pick-up location and the specific airport terminal for drop-off.

Advance Booking passengers will also be receiving regular updates and reminders about the status of their ride leading to the scheduled pick-up time. 45 minutes prior to the scheduled trip, passengers can already chat and check in with their assigned driver in-app.

As safety and convenience remain paramount for Grab, Advance Booking rides can only accommodate a maximum of three passengers with three pieces of luggage.

Safeguarding our Driver-Partners

Grab has also implemented protective measures to safeguard the income of the dedicated fleet for Advance Booking. These measures are designed to mitigate the impact of last-minute cancellations by passengers, specifically those made less than an hour before the scheduled pick-up time. During such cancellations, the passenger will be charged the full fare of the ride. The same policy applies when a passenger is unreachable or hasn't arrived 15 minutes past the scheduled time.

However, there will be no charge for any passenger cancellation done at least one hour before the scheduled pick-up time,

A worry-free airport transfer

The Grab Advance Booking eases the overall experience of leisure and business travelers going to the airport, allowing them to relax as they begin their trip. This new service from Grab is currently exclusive to trips going to Metro Manila airports via its GrabAirport fleet, which was launched last year in conjunction with the MIAA. Its availability in cities and regions outside of the National Capital Region is expected to transpire in the second half of 2024.

For more information on Grab Advance Booking, passengers may visit the Grab Help Center.

Grab cools down thousands of street workers, delivery riders on Labor Day

The leading superapp provides relief to street workers and delivery riders enduring the summer heat in Quezon City, Cebu City, and Davao City

Thousands of street workers cooled down at the Grab Palamig Spots, enjoying refreshments as they take a much-needed break from the intense heat of the sun.

In honor of Labor Day, Grab Philippines has cooled down thousands of street workers and other skilled professionals at its Grab Palamig Spots.

In light of the cautionary heat indices averaging 39°C to 40°C in Metro Manila, Davao, and Cebu, the Grab Palamig Spots were strategically stationed in high-traffic and accessible locations across these regions: Quezon City Memorial Circle, Agdao Public Market, and the SM City Cebu Terminal. The spots served as cold and convenient rest stops for street sweepers, traffic enforcers, delivery riders, and other workers who spend their days under the heat of the sun.

Cooling down these street workers, the Grab Palamig Spots maintained soothing temperatures as low as 16°C in its mini-lounge areas. And in a world where 'cooling down' is typically associated with the color blue, the leading superapp has reimagined it in a vibrant shade of green – offering green summer coolers like flavorful avocado and buko pandan ice creams, and crowd-favorite sodas and sweet tea drinks to its Palamig guests.

Various refreshments were given away for free to the Grab Palamig Spots guests

Grab worked with the local government units of Quezon City, Davao City, and Cebu City in inviting the hard-working street workers to visit and take a refreshing break at the Grab Palamig Spots. To encourage its own delivery-partners to recharge at the spots, the leading superapp also activated special push notifications and GrabMap Pins guiding them to the exact location of the cold rest stops.
Grab sent out push notification to nearby delivery-partners to invite them to drop by Grab Palamig Spots

The Grab Palamig Spots, an initiative under Grab’s No Sweat Summer campaign, is a manifestation of the superapp’s commitment to enabling all Filipinos to go through the hot season conveniently and hassle-free – with much-needed breaks and moments of respite in between.

Showing Up for the Community

Understanding the impact of the intense summer heat on workers who make their living on the road, Grab’s very own delivery-partners volunteered to help in the distribution of the coolers to the guests at the Grab Palamig Spots. The Grab Ugnayan Advocates – a network of delivery-riders focused on community outreach, scoured the areas where the Grab Palamig Spots are to invite and assist street workers as they cooled down with Grab.

Grab delivery-partners enjoy some refreshments as they lounge at the Grab Palamig Spots

Big Daddy, an Ugnayan Advocate, shared how he empathizes with the country’s street workers.

“Ang laking epekto sa amin ng init, lalo na madalas kaming nakababad sa init ng araw. Kaya saludo ako sa mga kapwa ko rider at mga kagaya naming mga naghahanapbuhay sa kalsada. Noong narinig ko na may ganito tayong espesyal na kaganapan para sa amin at sa iba pang manggaawa sa daan, agad-agad naming napagdesisyonan na tumulong kahit sa papaano mang paraan,” Big Daddy shares.

The Grab Ugnayan Advocates are volunteer delivery riders focused on conducting community outreach activities

Prior to volunteering at the Grab Palamig Spots, the Ugnayan Advocates have been going around in select pit stops that are famous among delivery riders to give away free refreshments to their colleagues – regardless of platform affiliation.

Cagayan De Oro Mayor Rolando "Klarex" Uy also underscored the strong partnership of the city with the leading superapp. “Cagayan De Oro actively forges partnerships with industry leaders like Grab as we make strides toward our vision of solid economic performance and a thriving citizenry. The launch of Grab in our city has given Kagay-anon entrepreneurs, drivers and riders access to a robust marketplace that fosters high-success potential – something only a superapp ecosystem can offer. We are glad to welcome GrabCar and are excited to see the new opportunities it is bringing for our kabayayans,” Mayor Uy shares.

The Grab Superapp Journey in CDO: A Long-Standing Commitment to Economic Empowerment

In an effort to digitalize the taxi ecosystem in Cagayan De Oro, Grab launched GrabTaxi in 2015. Since then, Grab has been forging close partnerships with key taxi operators in the city. This collaboration has resulted in the onboarding of hundreds of GrabTaxi driver-partners, enabling them to substantially boost their earnings potential through increased bookings facilitated on the platform.

As Southeast Asia’s leading superapp, Grab has also expanded its presence in CDO outside of mobility with the launch of GrabFood in May 2020. This addition has proven to be instrumental in fostering a thriving ecosystem for local entrepreneurial ventures, regardless of their size. By democratizing access to user-friendly growth tools, cutting-edge technology, and capacity-building programs, Grab has empowered MSMEs to achieve sustainable growth on the platform. One outstanding example of a homegrown CDO merchant-partner that has experienced equitable success on Grab is Frkn Burger. Since its launch on Grab, Frkn Burger has achieved a remarkable ten-fold increase in its average weekly delivery orders and has also opened its second branch. This earned them a well-deserved spot among the prestigious Golden Grab Awardees for 2023.

An Expansive Horizon of Partnership

As a devoted partner for economic empowerment of the Cagayan De Oro local government, Grab Philippines will continue to leverage its technology, extensive network of highly engaged users, and community-focused approach to unlock new possibilities for growth and prosperity. Dela Vega notes, “The horizon of collaboration between Grab and the local government of Cagayan De Oro continues to be expansive. Together, we're orchestrating a future of sustainable opportunities that create pathways for local everyday entrepreneurs to realize their aspirations. This is a testament to the transformative power of partnership, innovative technology, and the boundless potential of the Filipino spirit.”
