The New DAIKIN's Airconditioner Series

DAIKIN, industry leader to phase out R22 within fiscal year 2017, 3 years ahead of targeted year in country’s roadmap

With the coming of Fusion 20, a strategic management plan that defines the five-year development of the Daikin Group, Daikin Philippines (DPH) is prepared with the new challenges it is bound to face. The determined and diligent team is led by President Mr. Lee Wai Kok. DPH is confident that it can be the top air conditioning solution provider in Philippines as it has been worldwide.

DAIKIN, one of the world’s leading air conditioning company, held  a special media conference at Shangri-la The Fort last Thursday (Feb 23).

Daikin Philippines President Mr. Lee Wai Kok

Mr. Lee Wai Kok shared that all of their units that contains ozone-depleting refrigerants like the R-22 (HCFC) will be phased-out within the fiscal year of 2017-2018. Being ahead in research and development, Daikin are now in the process of replacing all of its products with environmentally friendly refrigerants – particularly, with HFCs or hydrofluorocarbons (R-410A, R-32) that has no ozone depleting properties and a much lower GWP.

COOLING KING SERIES

The NEW Daikin Cooling King Series

Do you want to enjoy the coolness right after you turn on the air conditioner?  Do you want to cool every corner of your house with even air flow and lower sound level? What’s more, do you want to save your electricity bill as much as possible?

A brand new series residential split air conditioner, Cooling King, will be launched in the Philippine market with stronger cooling capacity yet better energy efficiency.

DAIKIN's newest brand – the COOLING KING wall-mounted split-type home air conditioning series boast of the following features:

  • It comes in standard or premium unit designsStandard and Premium
  • It uses the more eco-friendly R-410A (HFC) refrigerant
  • It has a high 4-star Energy Efficiency Rate (EER), more cooling comfort with less power
  • It’s more quiet, with a sound level that is as low as 23dBA (imagine the rustling leaves of nature)
  • It’s 1HP unit has a cooling capacity of 9,500 BTU/H better than the ordinary window type AC of the same power
Another thing they’re offering right now is the Home Central Air Conditioning System

THE HOME CENTRAL AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM

There is nothing more important than spending quality time in a comfortable and relaxing space with your loved ones.

Going beyond the limits of air conditioning, Daikin reinvents its highly successful commercial VRV (Variable Refrigerant Volume) system to define once again what comfort is in residential market.

Developed by Daikin, the VRV system is a multi-split type air conditioner for commercial buildings that uses variable refrigerant flow control.

Bringing this revolutionary technology and principle to homes, a unified system which incorporates temperature, moisture and air flow control can now be enjoyed soon by various residential units here in the Philippines, giving Filipinos the most comfortable cooling according to the unique requirement in each type of room in their house.

Haier’s inverter tech brings energy savings beyond standards

Inverter technology has revolutionized home appliances, bringing greater energy efficiencies that translate to more savings.

How much can you really save on an inverter ref?

In particular, refrigerators—which traditionally consume almost 1,800kwh/year—are now being designed with digital inverter compressors that cut down electricity consumption from about 500 to 380kwh/year.

Digital inverters are fast becoming the standard for modern home refrigerators. However, innovations are pushing the limits of what inverters can do to help households enjoy real savings from their appliances.

Greater efficiency, less power

Inverter compressors adapt to the cooling needs of refrigerators. Unlike conventional counterparts that consume the same amount of energy whether the fridge is frequently used or not, inverter compressors “slow down” when they don’t need to actively decrease the temperature, such as at night. This lessens energy consumption while reducing wear and tear on the compressor.

Haier takes the technology a step further with its FICA Ref Series.

“Our FICA Ref Series is equipped with an FD-Plus inverter compressor, which is integrated into a single conversion chip for better reliability compared with other inverter compressors,” said Haier's Senior Product Manager for Refrigerators and Air Conditioners, Jennifer Samson.

Previous compressors from the brand had frequency plates that consumed 0.6W on standby power. The newer FD-Plus inverter compressor cuts this down further to less than 0.1W when idle—the lowest in the refrigerator industry.

“The chip also runs on a 32-bit operating system, unlike typical digital inverters that run on a 16-bit OS. This greatly enhances cooling performance for better food storage and cost efficiency," Samson added.

All in all, the FD-Plus inverter consumes power from 245 to 310kwh/year.

“The cost of electricity is often a major setback when it comes to modern conveniences like refrigerators,” Samson said. “This is a challenge that Haier wants to address to help families enjoy life at home without the high cost.”

These benefits come on top of other features such as a 360-degree duct that allows pervasive cooling air flow, a brighter LED lamp that saves more energy, tempered glass shelving that can load up to 120kg of food, and anti-odor and anti-bacterial deodorizer that helps preserve food quality.

Haier’s two-door top-mount FICA refrigerators are available in three different sizes: 8.5, 9.3, and 11.1 cubic feet. The suggested retail price for each is P20,998, P23,598, and P26,598 respectively.

All FICA refrigerators come with a two-year warranty on parts and labor, as well as a ten-year warranty for the compressor.

“Home appliances should be designed to enhance the lifestyle of the consumer. That’s why for the Filipino market, Haier combines good quality, affordable cost, and excellent after-sales service to provide every family with the comfort they deserve,” Samson said.

Electrolux, Over 100 years of Vacuum Expertise and Innovations

Electrolux, since 1912,  has been revolutionizing the cleaning industry with well-thought designs and efficient technologies that offer the ultimate cleaning experience for homes across the globe.

Lux 1

Considered a visionary and sales genius, company founder Axel Wenner-Gren saw the potential of adapting the industrial vacuum cleaner for use in homes, marking the beginning of the end for brooms in the modern home. Enter the Lux 1 in 1912, the world’s first home vacuum cleaner - affordable, efficient and smaller than its industrial counterparts (though still weighing a hefty 14 kg!).

Model V

Only nine years later, the next vacuum cleaner, Model V was introduced. Model V was a perfect example of how Electrolux pioneered innovative thinking. The new vacuum was completely different than the relatively heavy and immobile Lux 1.

The Model V was the first vacuum turned sideways and it was equipped with runners also making it the first truly mobile vacuum cleaner. The Model V was such a success that Swedish maids protested when it was launched.

Another of Wenner-Gren’s pioneering moves was the introduction of home sales.

The sales representatives would show-case the new product, while at the same time meet with the decision maker who would eventually approve the investment, as well as gain valuable insights on how consumers actually used the products. In the Philippines, children of the ‘80s would surely remember the Electrolux man and his famous “Knock on your door” jingle as he sold vacuum cleaners from door to door.

Through the years, Electrolux also pioneered other firsts such as the first robotic vacuum cleaner and the Ergorapido, the first cordless stick cleaner that complimented the trend of grab-and-go cleaning.

Backed up by 100 years of heritage, Electrolux has since proven its understanding and knowledge on consumer needs leading to insightful and inspiring innovations.

In recognition of its design and innovations, Electrolux vacuum cleaners have received numerous acknowledgements and remarkable awards including; the Swedish ‘Good Design’ Award, the ‘Red Dot’ Design Award, the ‘iF Design’ Award, the ‘Plus X’ Award for ‘high quality, design and ease of use.’ and the ‘European Excellence & Eurobest’ Award for outstanding European PR communications.

Electrolux ErgoClean ZVE4110FL

ErgoClean ZVE4110FL is the perfect balance between performance and design. Understanding that space is a premium in urban homes, ErgoClean addresses the need for convenience and flexibility - its compact body ensures easy storage and its 4G cyclonic technology that provides powerful suctioning for optimal cleaning.

Electrolux Flexio II Z931

In addition to bringing cleaning performance to every corner of your home, the Electrolux Flexio II Z931 wet and dry vacuum cleaner ensures superior suction power for excellent dust pick-up with its large drum capacity. Flexio II also features an effective filtration system that traps dust and airborne particles, resulting in a more hygienic cleaning process.

Promising Japan-Made Water Purifier Launched for Filipino Households

Each person requires at least 20 to 50 liters of clean, safe water a day for drinking, cooking, and simply keeping themselves clean. Clean water is vital to our health.

WATER filtration system is still a significant product segment in the Philippine consumer market. This holds true as water-refilling stations continue to mushroom everywhere, indicating that most households turn to them for drinking water supply.

There is no confidence on choosing to drink from the tap. This concern is aggravated by many unreliable piping systems in the country.

Majority of our water refilling stations on record is not consistently compliant with the process for certification required by the concerned government agencies. Furthermore, one is not sure if those five-gallon containers are thoroughly cleaned, carefully handled or properly stored.

The safety of the drinking public now becomes uncertain.

But all agree, that every Juan deserves safe drinking water. Now, there is no need to worry, as the solution has finally come to the Philippines.

Introducing the Torayvino Water Purifier––a market leader in Japan, with a filtration technology that boasts of a 99.99-percent bacteria removal feature––thanks to its four-stage purification system.

Initially at the prescreen process, impurities bigger than 465 microns, such as rust, sands, sediment and particles are removed. Those bigger than 114 microns will then be taken away in the second screen. Next, the water will pass through the granular activated carbon, which efficiently removes residual chlorine, harmful chemicals and bad odor.

Finally, the optimal hollow fiber membrane structure removes contaminants larger than 0.1 micron, such as bacteria and other microorganisms, rust, turbidity, and microscopic impurities. Such technology, which is likewise used in dialysis machines and artificial kidneys, provides low elution and high flow rate of water. While it undergoes a stringent filtration process, calcium, magnesium and other essential minerals are retained.

Torayvino Water Purifier is easy to install, with no plumbing required. Attachments are provided to fit most of the faucets available in the market. Unlike other water purifiers, it's space-saving, compact and is even portable, perfect for condo-dwellers, especially those who live in smaller units.

Torayvino is more affordable than water delivery, since it costs the buyers as low as P0.92 per liter––half of P1.85 a liter of water sourced from refilling stations. It comes in four models, with prices ranging from P1,980 to P4,980.

30 percent savings on water is also achieved when one chooses to use the unfiltered spray setting which is perfect for washing dishes or vegetables. Moreover, it operates without electricity.

Truly a very relevant product for the Philippine market today.

Torayvino Water Purifier is manufactured by a diversified company called Toray Industries, Inc. with presence in Asia, Europe, Middle East, North America, Central America and South America. This is the leading brand in Japan, with 66 percent share of the market for the faucet-mounted type.

Torayvino Water Purifier conforms with the Japan Industrial Standards and is also certified and approved by the Philippine Department of Health.

Distributed in the Philippines by Moduvi, Inc. it is now available in modern hardwares like True Value and All Home, as well as condo-partners.

SCG Exhibit at WorldBEX 2016 Redefines the Future of Innovative Living for Filipino Homeowners

Strengthened SCG Smartboard for innovative home building

SCG, an ASEAN sustainable business leader, displayed new products that will help Filipinos create stylish and sustainable homes at the 21st WorldBEX, which kicked off on March 16, 2016.

With more than 100 years of expertise in the homebuilding and construction sector, SCG showcased their concept of “UNBOUNDED FIBER CEMENT.”  SCG’s 90-square foot booth displayed actual installations of SCG products and the innovative solutions that the Philippine market will be seeing for the first time.

“Our annual participation in WorldBEX affirms the company’s strong commitment to develop world-class products and services to meet the changing and growing needs of international and local construction professionals, traders, exporters, associations and homeowners. SCG is ready to introduce and deliver the latest technologies, innovative building materials and creative construction solutions for Filipinos,” said Mr. Phaskorn Buranawit, Country Director of SCG Cement-Building Materials Philippines.

One of the featured innovations was the SCG Smartboard, a fiber-cement board consisting of SCG Portland cement and non-asbestos cellulose fiber, giving it strength, flexibility, and water resistance. The public was invited to test the strength of the board by stomping heavily on the board, and they were amazed that it did not sustain any damage.

Two breakthrough technologies showcased at the exhibit were Extrusion Technology and Digital Printing Technology. Extrusion Technology uses a free form molding process that provides a wide range of styles and designs with various depth levels and dynamic forms needed to make distinctive home finishes, as seen in the SCG Smartboard Modeena and SCG Smartwood Floor Plank

These floor planks bring life to homes with their multi-layer impression that gives a personal touch to a person’s home. For example, the SCG Smartboard Modeena is applicable for both exterior and interior use due to its termite-free and waterproof properties; while it is the same for the SCG Smartwood Floor Plank which can reduce the weight up to 25%, therefore saving on structural costs.

The Digital Printing Technology on Fiber Cement Board enables printing of a variety of colors, designs, and textures on wall tiles that provide different tones and unique artistic designs. With these products, walls and floors can be stylishly designed to suit various taste preferences. The SCG booth at WorldBEX displayed a room whose walls and floors used digital printing to achieve the look of real marble material.

“We at SCG understand that Filipino homeowners want their homes to look the very best and to be made by the best materials out there in the market. As a response to this, SCG continually develops their products and services to provide Filipino families high-quality SCG products that can be applied for either exterior or interior parts of their homes, ensuring innovative and sustainable living for all Filipinos nationwide,” said Mr. Buranawit.

Practical tips for the Filipino Home

Every month the average household spends thousands on groceries, utility bills, rent, tuition, and miscellaneous expenses.

With prices rising every month, Filipino families need to be madiskarte in maximizing the household products that they buy to make sure that they get the best value for their families. Practicality is essential in saving money. So we’ve prepared a few tips that will save you some money while making your home better.

For your kitchen:

Planning to save some leftover salad greens? Wrap it in paper towels and store it in a resealable plastic bag to extend the shelf life of those delicious arugula and lettuce leaves.

Cook sumptuous veggies the hassle-free way by laying them in between damp paper towels before putting in the microwave. For perfectly cooked asparagus, cover the container with a wet paper towel before heating it for 3 minutes in the microwave. Voila, you’ll have steamed asparagus on the fly. This technique is also perfect for reheating meat dishes, pasta, or rice.

For your bathroom:

Freshen up your bathroom in a snap by adding a few drops of essential oils, (we suggest something fresh like lavender, lemon, or vanilla) to the cardboard core of your tissue in the loo. This will keep your bathroom smelling divine for at least 24 hours. You won’t need to buy those expensive bathroom deodorizers anymore.

Cool organizational hacks:

Use tissue cores as wire organizers. With so many electronic devices we have these days, it’s quite challenging to keep electronic chargers organized. To keep clutter at bay, bunch up your charger’s wire and put them inside the tissue core. Store all the cores inside a clear box or a drawer so they won’t clutter your space.

Make gift wrapping of oddly shaped gifts easier with tissue cores or facial tissue boxes. Put your irregular shaped gift inside a tissue core, wrap the outer core with a gift wrapper then surround it with a clear plastic wrap as if you’re wrapping a candy. For the boxes, insert the item inside them then cover with a gift wrapper.

Education starts at home

Children lack access to decent education when they lack access to decent home.

Access to proper education has recently been hampered due to various socio-economic factors, such as lack of proper healthcare, job opportunities for parents and notably, adequate housing.

In the Philippines, more than four million families live in unsafe, unsanitary and unhealthy places which they call ‘home’, hindering the learning environment of the children living in these conditions.

The Urban Institute (2012) states, “High-quality, affordable housing, located in safe neighbourhoods can go beyond providing basic shelter and stability, and can help provide a stable environment where children access high-performing schools, learn, and succeed academically.”

According to Rothstein (2013), a child who lives in inadequate housing, has limited ability to enrich themselves, stunting their growth and development in their crucial formative years. It takes a direct toll on the child’s capacity to develop and fully realize the skill sets and potential they possess.

Consequently, these children are more likely to become exposed to violence, crime and drug abuse, further postponing their development (Urban Institute, 2012).

The case of youth offenders has increased and continues to as the Philippine National Police found an 18% increase in juvenile crimes reported, in 2008.

“Children have the right to have a healthy home and neighbourhood which provides them a sound learning environment – where learning is easy, and cherished. If we focus on giving children the decent homes they not only deserve, but have the right to, our future will be prosperous,” says Charlie Ayco, Managing Director and CEO of Habitat for Humanity Philippines.

School provides our children the knowledge to equip the next generation, but without the environment to foster that knowledge, they are unable to apply these lessons to their lives.

A home is more than just four walls and a roof. It is where children develop into the best versions of themselves.

“Together, let’s build a world where every child has a decent place to live, and study,” says Ayco.

The Back-To-School campaign’s aim is to help generate funds in order for Habitat for Humanity Philippines to provide adequate means of living such as a home for families. Children of these families have every right to study in a conducive environment to be able to reach for their hopes and dreams. Give millions of children the opportunity to improve their lives and support Habitat’s Back-To-School campaign.
