No breaks, Just Dance at the Star Movies Move-A-Thon !

The Star Movies Move-A-Thon,  the channel’s seventh movie marathon kept moviegoers on their feet all day and all night this Monday, June 27, 2016 House Manila at  Remington Hotel,  Resorts World Manila.

For the Star Movies Move-A-Thon, a movie marathon that required non-stop dancing from contenders who wanted to be declared the Philippines’ ultimate film lovers. Groups of avid film viewers shimmied and shook their “groove thang” for up to 24 hours straight while watching the best and most popular movie musicals of all time—all for the chance to win the grand prize of PHP200,000.

With each movie binge embracing a different theme, Star Movies marathons have been highly successful, garnering thousands of entries each time. Starting with a straight-up movie marathon with unlimited food and drinks in 2010, the Star Movies marathon was upgraded with a fitness theme with yoga and other physical challenges in 2012; a rigid boot camp theme in 2013, where the grand prize was awarded to just one hardy individual; and a scare-a-thon of all horror movies in 2015, where 500 participants were required to sit completely still until one winner remained.

The Star Movies Move-A-Thon was the first time that viewers were allowed to compete in teams. Contestants danced non-stop for an entire day while watching the most entertaining musicals in movie history, and because of the nature of the contest, Star Movies took the movie marathon out of the cinemas and onto the dance floor, holding it in the nightlife mecca of House Manila at Resorts World Manila. The channel and partner sponsors also provided contestants with food and beverages throughout the day.

Not only did the teams have to move continuously throughout the contest, allwhile enjoying memorable films, but they also had to go through various challenges in order to earn their bathroom breaks. Contestants scrambled to follow the rigid requirements of the movie marathon while thinking of their teammates’ physical comfort, resulting in a fun and chaotic dance-party-slash-movie- marathon that went down in Star Movies history. In the end, the last team dancing—and watching—was declared the winner of the movie marathon. The five team members had the privilege of sharing the grand prize of PHP200,000.
“We were so excited to continue Star Movies’ tradition of exciting movie marathons this year and add another cool twist to up the game. Star Movies Move-A-Thon certainly brought the most dedicated film lovers out of the woodwork and onto the dance floor, and we’re proud to be handing the prize over this year to those who really worked for it, had a lot of fun, and really deserved it,” said Charo Espedido, Director and Head of Marketing for FOX International Channels.

The Star Movies Move-A-Thon was brought to you by FOX Networks Group in cooperation with Listerine: Bring Out The Bold, 5 Star Cadbury: The latest, happiest, craziest Cadbury in town #youthinkyoucan, and Dolfenal "para laging good vibes, magdolfenal”, official venue partner, Resorts World Manila, Nothing Compares, and House Manila and official coffee partner, Bo’s Coffee, Your Homegrown Coffee

Fil-Australian Justine Joy with her album "Fly Away"

Filipino-Australian-based independent artist, Justine Joy is here in the Philippines and her independently produced debut album "Fly Away" is a testament of her fun and carefree spirit that soars high with her intense passion for music.

Justine Joy spent her childhood years honing her talent in singing by taking a vocal coach, joining singing talent competition, and performing in numerous school plays. In 2006, she was spotted by a dance talent scout and persuaded her to be part of the newly formed hip hop dance crew “Gigabeatz” and went on to dance and sing with them until 2008. Gigabeatz won and placed in the top spots in several local hip hop dance competitions such as “Looze Control” and “Groove Hills”, as well as performed at many local charity and nightclub events.

In 2007, Justine was fortunate enough to dance with Gigabeatz as the front act to the acclaimed group “The Outlawz” created by the late legendary rapper Tupac Shakur on his 10th Anniversary Legacy Tour, at their Sydney show with local artists Lia Maja and Abel. Also in 2007, Justine and Gigabeatz placed 1st in the local song and dance competition “Boogie Tunez” (Justine & Gigabeatz - Boogie Tunez 2007), the first of its kind in the area. There she was approached by Australian artist Neska after winning and was congratulated and encouraged that she has so much potential in her performance skills and to keep working at it to make her performance art the best it could be. This led to a number of live shows for Justine in some of Sydney’s acclaimed nightclubs during that year and in early 2008. Furthermore in 2007, during the “19th Philippine Fiesta Kultura” Justine and Gigabeatz were the backup dancers for Toni Gonzaga and Sam Milby’s live performances.

In March of 2008, however, Justine Joy took on a new career as a flight attendant in a prestigious international airline company. During this time she had to go on a hiatus from Gigabeatz and her performing as she was travelling the globe and her unpredictable schedule would not allow her to make it to regular rehearsals.

Around 2010, after a 2 year break, Justine felt it was time to start performing again, even if just for private family functions, as she missed performing and the stage so much.

Her wish came true starting again in 2010, when she was asked to dance as an extra in local Australian-Spanglish rapper “D-Minus’” music Video “Set it Off” (D-MINUS - SET IT OFF OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO), and then again in 2012 for D-Minus’ clip “La Rumba”. When 2013 came around, her passion grew ever larger when she performed on stage again in the “25th Philippine Fiesta Kultura.”

Justine Joy, songwriter, is now setting sights on fulfilling her dream of conquering the global stage with her true passion: music. In between her 'day job' and travels, she hits the studio to write and record tracks for her album.

And finally, the moment has come to pass. With her formidable spirit, boundless energy, and impassioned showmanship, Justine Joy is raring and ready to fly away.

She is now in the Philippines to promote her carrier single “Tonight” which she also wrote included in her debut album entitled “Fly Away.”

Now available in all Odyssey Music Stores.

You can catch updates on Justine Joy, visit her Facebook and   YouTube.

Here are some clips of her performances at the RJ Bistro, Dusit Thani Manila Hotel, Makati City during her visit in the Philippines.

Asia Tour of SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER Aims to Bring Audience To Their Feet—And Dance in the Aisles

Remembering "Saturday Night Fever"? A huge commercial success, "Saturday Night Fever" significantly popularized disco music around the world and made celebrities like John Travolta famous. The Saturday Night Fever soundtrack featuring disco songs by the Bee Gees became one of the best-selling soundtracks of all time.

The younger generation has not had a chance to witness the impact of the movie 'Saturday Night Fever' made in the '70s. I'd be great to see a new generation of theatergoers dancing in the aisles to the timeless tunes of The Bee Gees,” says Patrick Bywalski, deputy chairman of Robert Stigwood Organisation Ltd. , which co-produces the upcoming Asian Tour of the hit West End and Broadway dance musical SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER alongside Atlantis Theatrical Entertainment Group (ATEG) and Ten Bridges Media Corp.

The dancing crowd doing the hustle is expected to spill out of The Theatre at Solaire Resort and Casino, where a '70s disco-themed party will take place at a nearby venue to aptly kick off the tour running in Manila (July 3-26), Kuala Lumpur (Septmber 1-15), and Singapore (September 25 to October 11).

“Since SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER opened in the West End in 1997, we've nurtured the musical around the globe with each production contextualized [and recontextualized] to please the local customs,” adds Bywalski. Apparently, the recent UK productions and the upcoming Asian Tour of the musical have been more fearless—definitely more provocative—than their sanitized predecessors in the West End and on Broadway by staying true to the authentic, gritty realism depicted in the landmark film.

“The film was, finally, so authentic...it was more of a documentary,” Karen Lynn Gorney, the actress who played Stephanie Mangano, the love interest of John Travolta's Tony Manero in the film, told Vanity Fair in December 2007. “We improvised for two weeks, so that by the time it came to filming, [film director] John Badham just shot what was happening. It wasn't acting.”

With the stamp of approval to reimagine SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER onstage for Asian audiences, multi-awarded stage director Bobby Garcia has set his eyes on reliving the authentic coming-of-age in a tough world story of the film—amid the backdrop of the pulsating strobe lights of the infamous retro '70s disco era.

For Garcia, nothing would be more authentic than asking Broadway choreographer and child of the '70s Vince Pesce to join his creative team. Pesce, who's a longtime associate choreographer of Tony winner Kathleen Marshall, grew up in the same neighborhood in Brooklyn, New York, where the movie was filmed. “I've a clear memory of the movement/dance and how it made us feel,” says Pesce.

Based upon music critic Nik Cohn's magazine article “Tribal Rites of the New Saturday Night,” which was published in the June 7, 1976 issue of New York, SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER tells the story of Italian-American Vincent (later renamed to Tony Manero) and his gang in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn who are stuck in dead-end jobs but rule the dance floor at the discotheque 2001 Odyssey. Vincent or Tony is a tough cookie; an outstanding dancer, his ultimate dream was to escape the mean streets of Brooklyn.

“I did go back and look at the movie again just to make sure I capture the gritty, dynamic, and social movement that shifted popular dance as we know it,” Pesce continues. “With that in mind, Bobby Garcia, our director, and I felt we needed to expand the dancing in the show and make it more relatable to modern audiences yet remain true to the original choreography. You'll get to see the hustle, Travolta's finger point, and lots of exciting disco dancing but much more is needed to be done.

“Today's sophisticated audiences are accustomed to intricate, dynamic dance styles on TV, e.g. 'Dancing with the Stars.' We have to deliver expanded dance sequences that will thrill. On the other hand, we also have to create a world of movement that doesn't only take place in the disco. Essentially, we need to capture the pulse, frustration, and energy of the streets of Brooklyn and the '70s social movements.”

A show that's heavy on the dance side yet demands authentic emotions onstage, a triple threat casting is equally crucial. “We auditioned for the roles of Tony, Stephanie, Tony's friend Double J, and a [Latin] dancer in N.Y.,” says West End and Broadway casting director Tara Rubin. “We were looking for great actors, singers, and dancers who seemed authentic to the show's time and place. We needed actors experienced enough to star in the show and play these iconic roles.”

Pesce adds, “The culture in Brooklyn is all about bigger than life and fun loving personalities. We didn't stop looking until we found them.”

At the end of the auditions, Brandon Rubendall (“Spider-man” on Broadway), Jenna Rubaii (“American Idiot”), and Nick Varricchio (“A Chorus Line”) were cast as Tony, Stephanie, and Double J, respectively.

Thespians Marie Rose, Rafa Giguion-Reyna, Yanah Laurel, Jamie Wilson, and Carla Guevara-Laforteza are also joining its 20-strong cast.

Besides Garcia, Pesce, and Rubin, Tony Award-winning scenic designer David Gallo, original lighting designer of SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER on Broadway Paul Miller, costume designer Eric Pineda, and musical director Ceejay Javier are also part of the show's first-rate creative team.

Party with the Founder of Zumba - Beto Perez Live at Circuit Makati this Sunday!

It’s a Party with Beto Perez, the Founder of Zumba!

Beto Perez will host a 90 minute Zumba Fitness-Concert with his team of Zumba Celebrity Instructors, musicians and international DJs on May 10, 2015 at the Globe Circuit Events Ground.

“Zumba: Let It Move You”

Beto Perez explains that the exercise fuses fitness, entertainment and culture into an exhilarating dance-party workout. Coined as “fitness-parties,” Zumba classes blend upbeat world rhythms with easy-to-follow choreography to provide effective, total-body workouts for groups of all ages.

The dance party work-out was stumbled upon accidentally. He was set to teach a class back in the 90s when he realized he had forgotten his regular music and had to use a tape of Latin songs instead. A few samba moves and salsa grooves were tossed into the routine and the lively and incredibly fun workout the world now knows as Zumba was born.

Circuit Makati

As a city that continues to bring well-rounded, holistic urban experiences to its denizens, Perez arrives in the country to give an exclusive peek into the unique lifestyle and entertainment opportunities that the city holds.

Much like how Perez’s creativity and ingenuity paved the way for exercise to be transformed into something more exciting, Makati is now giving everyone a glimpse into what they can expect with its latest development: Circuit Makati. This 22-hectare integrated, mixed-use development will highlight the diverse opportunities for entertainment and lifestyle within Makati.

The Workout

The Zumba workout provides long-term physical and emotional benefits through exhilarating, high calorie-burning fitness parties, and its simple dance moves from around the world increase the fun factor, making it feel like exercise in disguise.
