Maintaining a healthy relationship, Happy Wife, Happy Life

Maintaining a good and healthy relationships require care and work to maintain closeness. Common components found in successful relationships include - communication, respect, trust, love, sharing, individuality and self-care.

Do your best to treat your partner in a way that says, "I love you and trust you, and I want to work this out."

Express wants and needs. A clear message involves a respectful but direct expression of your wants and needs.

Always I believe, to be aware of what you and your partner want for yourselves and what you want from the relationship.

Realize that your partner will not be able to meet all your needs. Some of these needs will have to be met outside of the relationship. Be willing to negotiate and compromise on the things you want from one another.  You don't have to demand that a partner change to meet all your expectations. Work to accept the differences between your ideal mate and the real person you are with.

Try to see things from the other's point of view. This doesn't mean that you must agree with one another all the time, but rather that both of you can understand and respect each other's differences, points of view, and separate needs. Where critical differences do exist in your expectations, needs, or opinions, try to work honestly and sincerely to negotiate. Seek professional help early rather than waiting until the situation becomes critical.

Emotional support involves accepting your partner's differences and not insisting that he or she meet your needs only in the precise way that you want them met.

Respect your partner's rights. In healthy relationships, there is respect for each partner's right to have her/his own feelings. Resolving conflicts requires honesty, a willingness to consider your partner's perspective even if you don't fully understand it, and lots of communication.

Healthy communication is critical, especially when there are important decisions regarding sex, career, marriage, and family you made.

Now, let's talk about sexual intimacy

Intimacy is always important, always a key factor in a partnership.

When it comes to sexual intimacy, couples need to be more open with their partners about what satisfies them.

Given that the two of you share a special bond, there's no reason for you to not be comfortable about discussing what you like - and don't like about sex. After all, an activity that is meant to be enjoyed, should provide fulfillment for both parties.

Last Saturday, January 10, I was invited, and attended an interesting event for wives, and husbands, a launch of an advocacy campaign regaring sexual intimacy. Menarini Philippines who continues to promote its Community to Control PE advocacy campaign this 2015 with its Happy Wife, Happy Life event.

Menarini Philippines together with the Philippine Urological Association, boldly launched its Commit to Control PE Advocacy campaign last year to address one of the more pressing issues regarding sexual intimacy - premature ejaculation.

The campaign is meant to make couples more comfortable about discussing their intimacy concerns with each other, without it being a cause of insecurity or dissatisfaction.

This is because premature ejaculation can gravely affect one's relationship when left undiscussed - and untreated.

In relation to this, Menarini Philippines held a talk, aptly called Happy Wife, Happy Life, which was held last January 10 at the Satin Room of the Seda Hotels in BGC, hosted by popular celebrity columnist RJ Ledesma and was attended by local bloggers. It aimed to shed better insight about what premature ejaculation is all about, and that it is not something to be embarrassed about because it can be controlled.

And this advocacy campaign event featured a very insightful talk from sex and relationship guru, Dr. Margarita Holmes. It was the first time I met in person, Dr. Margie Holmes, with a very lively insightful talk - "Love and lust that last." I have watched and admire her in many TV guestings she had.

Dr. Dennis Serrano
Also present at the event was Dr. Dennis Serrano, who talked about the “basics” of premature ejaculation to help the guests have a better understanding of this condition.

Menarini Philippines strongly believes in this advocacy which is often left untreated because it is a topic that is usually considered taboo even in these modern times.

The pharmaceutical giant hopes to make a stronger impact among Filipino couples on their campaign this year with more events like this.

Really, intimacy is always important. It doesn't matter if you're 18 or 88, intimacy is always a key factor in a partnership. Couples stay intimate long into their 80s and 90s. In fact, many couples have increased satisfaction the older they get, because they are more and more skilled! Keep learning and experimenting - the best is yet to come.

The Fab and Fierce Way to Go and Love Life!

Love makes the world go round... love makes the people happy... love makes the world beautiful...love makes life colorful... Love is love... Love is Life ... Loving life to the fullest!

What takes most of your time? For most women, the answer will only revolve around family and work. As we all know, it is natural for women to focus on taking care of others.  But as they concentrate on the people they love, they tend to lose focus on their own lives. Some women even end up neglecting their own health and looks.

Merck Philippines launched Sangobion Go Love Life - a campaign that aims to revive a modern woman’s love for life. Last March, Sangobion kicked off the campaign by reminding women of the importance of taking care of oneself and by showing them all the great things that can happen just by changing one’s lifestyle habits.

Through social networking sites, Sangobion challenged women to join the Sangobion 15-day challenge and commit to change for the better. To further promote the challenge, Sangobion launched an online promo that tasked women to submit their pledges to change and to take Sangobion everyday.

Last August 16, Sangobion treated forty lucky ladies to a beauty blowout by expert stylists courtesy of Shu Uemura and Blo Blow Dry Bar. Now, another set of forty lucky ladies were given a fabulous treat! Last October 18, the winners went on a shopping spree and had their own little fashion show at Shine Bakery & Café. Each one was given a chance to shop for her own outfit and to strut like a model. These promo winners proved that Sangobion can truly help empower women to go on and live a better life!

It was one fun, fab, and fierce afternoon that inspired women to push the Go Love Life challenge, to make Sangobion part of their daily habits, and to continue living a healthy lifestyle. More than all the glitz and glam, it was also an educational afternoon as Merck Head of Marketing for Consumer Healthcare Debbie Go and Sangobion brand manager Jio Igual gave tips on how women can look, feel, and be at their best despite their crazy schedules and responsibilities. They also highlighted how Sangobion can help women achieve their ‘better self.’

Taking Sangobion everyday can help boost your iron, so you can look and perform at your best. It has Ferrous Gluconate, an organic iron that helps fight the different signs of iron deficiency such as paleness, fatigue, dizziness, and lack of focus and concentration. This ingredient also puts Sangobion above other iron supplements as it allows better body absorption and has less gastrointestinal side effects. Each capsule is chocolate-scented and leaves no metallic after-taste.

And more than iron, Sangobion also contains essential vitamins and minerals such as Vitamin C, Folic acid, Vitamin B12, Copper, and Manganese sulfate to build healthy red blood cells and immune system. It also has sorbitol that is an anti-constipating agent that helps manage the side effects of iron supplements! This is definitely the supplement a woman needs to focus on loving life and conquering her day-to-day challenges.

Merck Head of Marketing for Consumer Healthcare Debbie Go
There are 24 hours a day, so make sure you spare at least an hour or even just a couple of minutes for ‘me-time.' And even if the spotlight may always be on your family or career, it is not an excuse to lose focus on yourself and to stop you from living the life you love.

Keep on visiting the Sangobion Facebook page for updates.

‘FLUID ’ – A Reinterpretation of the Palanca Award-winning play set to open on July 24

The De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde’s Technical Theater Program Batch 111 proudly presents a reinterpretation of the Palanca Award-winning play, “FLUID”.

Written and directed by Floy Quintos, the comedy is about young Filipino contemporary artists struggling to make a name for themselves as they negotiate the tricky terrain between Love, Art and Compromise.

“ FLUID ” is set to open on July 24 and shall continue to run on July 25 and 26 (1:00 pm and 7:00 pm) at the 5/F SDA Theater, School of Design and Arts Campus, De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde, 950 P. Ocampo St., Malate, Manila. A press preview is set on July 23 at 7 p.m.

“FLUID” is written as a series of scenes in different locations featuring three pairs of characters who seemingly have nothing to do with each other. Amir is a struggling and frustrated young painter whose life is about to be changed by Mira a wealthy art collector who dreams of discovering new talent. Jom and Alben are passionate theater actors torn between their passion for their craft and the lure of fame. Renata is a seemingly batty orchestra coordinator out to defend the dignity of her orchestra when it is hired to play at a society wedding by the overbearing events coordinator, Simone. All these unique and clashing characters come together unexpectedly at an art exhibit where their impulses lead to joyful mayhem.

The cast of “FLUID” is made up of professional actors. Red Turnip Theater’s Ana Abad Santos who originally created the role of Mira in 2004 reprises her role. Kalil Almonte last seen in “Sintang Dalisay” and “Games People Play” plays Amir. JC Santos, fresh from his tint in Hong Kong’s Disney Land and Singapore’s Universal Studio, plays the ambitious Jom while Russell Legaspi last seen in this year’s Labfest plays the earnest Alben. Amihan Tanedo Ruiz and Gel Basa both last seen in “Breakaway Antigone” play Renata and Simone respectively. Musical Theater actor Tony Falcon also appears in the show.

“FLUID” had its successful runs in the University of the Philippines, Diliman (2004) and in Ateneo de Manila University (2007). For this new production, “FLUID” is being restaged by the Benilde Technical Theater Batch 111.

The artistic and creative team of “FLUID” is led by Floy Quintos (Playwright and Director), Ellawyn Cruz ( Set Designer ) and the students of DLS-CSB Major in Technical Theater Batch 111.

Boyz II Men serenades Manila in September

Boyz II Men—the ones behind soulful tracks such as “I’ll Make Love to You”, “End of the Road”, “On Bended Knee”, “Water Runs Dry”, “A Song For Mama”, “One Sweet Day” (with Mariah Carey), and “4 Seasons of Loneliness” among other hits, wil serenade the Filipinos who possess an unwavering love for romantic ballads. With the Boyz II Men sereneding in Manila this coming September, Filipinos will more than satisfy this craving.

Ovation Productions, the premier concert promotions and productions company in the country, presents Boyz II Men LIVE in Manila this September 17, 2014 to be held at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The brilliant and immensely talented group is currently composed of baritone Nathan Morris with tenors Shawn Stockman and Wanya Morris. In 2003, past member Michael McCary left the group because of health predicaments. The insistent popular demand in the Philippines for Boyz II Men magnetized the American R&B vocal group to once again grace the archipelago for the fourth time this coming September.

The group is widely popular for touching the hearts of many through their powerful voices, heartwarming lyrics, and splendid harmonies. The group has also done recordings of Motown’s Greatest Hits, a CD of the greatest love ballads, and other covers of popular hits.’

Boyz II Men’s vast success soared to great heights in the 1990s after releasing “End of the Road” which reached the top of the charts and conquered the number one place of Billboard Hot 100 for thirteen weeks. This caused one of the best vocal groups to break Elvis Presley’s record of longevity in the charts. Boyz II Men wowed the world once more by breaking their own record with the songs “I’ll Make Love to You” and “One Sweet Day” (with Mariah Carey), at fourteen and sixteen weeks respectively. The latter track still holds the all-time record for longevity in the Billboard Hot 100.

As one of the most massive names in R&B and a capella, Boyz II Men endeavored to put R&B back into the mainstream as it had been in the 1970s. The group has indubitably put a resonating impact on music and certainly brought back R&B to the popular scene. Boyz II Men garnered an astonishing cumulative 50 weeks on the number one spot of the Billboard Hot 100, a feat that only Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and Mariah Carey have surpassed. This proves how impactful Boyz II Men’s music has become and how the power of their voices has shaped and defined a capella and R&B music.

Catch Boyz II Men live in Manila on September 17, 2014 8PM at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Turning Science into Caring : The Value of Oral Nutritional Supplements in Reducing Hospital Stay and Expenses

Abbott, the global healthcare company devoted to improving life through the development of products and technologies that span the breadth of healthcare continue the studies and shares us the latest insights for more healthcare to our family and loveones.
DR. MARIANNA SY-QUIA SIOSON, MD, DPBCN, MSCN

Dr. Nina Sioson is a medical nutrition physician practicing mainly at The Medical City Hospital in Metro Manila. She is currently the head of the Section of Nutrition of the Department of Medicine, as well as head of the Weight Management Program of the Center for Wellness and Aesthetics of her hospital. She is also an active member of its Nutrition Management Services Team. Her sociocivic advocacy involves offering nutrition counseling services to cancer patients at the Carewell Cancer Community, an NGO providing support systems for free to cancer patients and their families.

She is the current President of the Philippine Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition or PhilSPEN.

Last June 28, 2014,  Dr. Sioson shared to us about one of the most important matter for all of us - Nutrition. She also explained about Malnutrition Syndrome - undernutrition, obesity, macronutrient deficiency, micronutrient defienciency and metabolic syndrome.

According to Dr. Sioson, "the body has higher nutritional needs during sickness, injury and surgery." Undernutrition is not just being underweight. Dr. Sioson said that more nutrients are needed to recover, build strenght and energy and return to normal life. But patients lose appetite during sickness and nutrient absorption may be impaired.

Nutrition care includes treatment of "underlying causes." During the talks of Dr. Sioson, address underlying causes of undernutrition are  disease, polypharmacy, oral or gastrointestinal symptoms and limited accress to adequate food.

Here is recommended nutrition therapy:

For our loveones who needs to be treated and to be back on their energy, we can help them to increase food intake, serve them palatable appetizing meals and give them high energy snacks. Their bodies need more nutrients during sickness, injury or surgery to be healed and recover.

Oral nutrition supplements can reduce length of hospital stay and costs.

DR. JOSE RODOLFO V. DIMAANO, JR., MD, Medical Director of Abbott Nutrition Philippines
Dr. Jose Rodolfo V. Dimaano, the Medical Director of Abbott Nutrition Philippines, part of the team that implemented the food fortification program under the Early Childhood Development Project of the Department of Health in order to address micronutrient deficiencies in children.

Abbott's in the now is on an advocacy campaign to increase awareness on the importance of nutrition to patient outcomes by identifying risk for undernutrition to trigger early intervention.

Dr. Dimaano asked the bloggers who participated in the #AbbotEnsureBlogcon how to interpret under nutrition risk. The bloggers conference was held June 28,  F1 Hotel, Global City, Taguig.

A new health economics outcomes study, conducted by leading health economists and supported by Abbott, found that oral nutritional supplements provided to patients during hospitalization are associated with significant reductions in length of stay and hospitalization cost. Additionally, the 30-day readmission risk was significantly reduced for patients with at least one known subsequent readmission.

Here's the detailed study for Oral Nutritional Supplements.

New Study Demonstrates Oral Nutritional Supplements Are Associated With Significant Reductions in Length of Hospital Stay and Cost

More than one million adult hospital cases analyzed in study.

Published in the American Journal of Managed Care, (Feb 2013) the study provides insights into the economic benefits of prescribing oral nutritional supplements to adult patients in the hospital setting.

The retrospective analysis utilized information from more than one million adult inpatient cases found in the 2000-2010 Premier Research Database maintained by the Premier healthcare alliance —representing a total of 44 million hospital episodes from across the United States or approximately 20 percent of all inpatient admissions in the U.S.

Benefits associated with patients provided oral nutrition supplements during hospitalization included 21% or 2.3 days reduction in length of stay and 21.6% or $4,734, reduction in patient hospitalization cost.

Additionally, there was a 6.7% reduction in the probability of a 30-day readmission in patients who had at least one known subsequent readmission and were provided oral nutrition supplements during the previous hospitalization.

″Impaired nutritional status, especially in patients recovering from serious illnesses or surgery, can result in longer hospital stays; an increase in complication rates, higher readmission rates, and associated health care costs, ″ says Dr. Marianna Sioson, president of the Philippine Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition. ″Research shows that using oral nutritional supplements can help reduce their length of stay and associated hospital costs. This is indeed good news for the 4 out of 10 hospitalized Filipino patients who are nutritionally at-risk since most of them shoulder their hospital expenses out of their own pockets.”

In the study, investigators were able to determine differences in length of stay and costs by comparing hospital stays where oral nutritional supplements were prescribed to stays of similar conditions where oral nutritional supplements weren’t prescribed.

″In an increasingly cost-pressured environment, health economics assessments can more comprehensively determine a therapy’s true value. Our results point to the tangible benefits of inpatient oral nutritional supplements on health outcomes and cost of care, factors that impact a hospital’s bottom line,” said study co-author, Darius Lakdawalla PhD, Quintiles Chair in Pharmaceutical Development and Regulatory Innovation, USC School of Pharmacy, and Sol Price School of Public Policy, and Director of Research, Leonard D. Schaeffer Center for Health Policy and Economics, University of Southern California

″Because oral nutrition supplements are formulated to provide advanced nutrition and calories for compromised patients and are relatively inexpensive to provide, the sizeable savings they generate make supplementation a cost-effective therapy,″ said study co-author, Tomas Philipson PhD, Daniel Levin Chair of Public Policy at the University of Chicago.

The ″Impact of Oral Nutritional Supplementation on Hospital Outcomes" study is a retrospective data analysis on the effect of oral nutritional supplements on hospital economic outcomes. The study compared hospital stays where oral nutritional supplements were provided with similar hospital stays that did not provide oral nutritional supplements. The difference between length of hospital stay and cost of treatment (including supplies, labor, depreciation of equipment, etc.) were measured.

The probability of 30-day hospital readmission also was calculated.

The retrospective analysis utilized information from more than one million adult inpatient cases found in the Premier Research Database from 2000 – 2010, maintained by the Premier healthcare alliance – representing a total of 44 million hospital episodes from across the United States or approximately 20 percent of all inpatient admissions in the United States. The full sample consisted of adults 18 years and older and focused on oral feeding interventions only. The matched sample ultimately included: 1,160,088 total episodes (oral nutritional supplements episodes N= 580,044 and non-oral nutritional supplements episodes N=580,044), where propensity score matching and instrumental variables were used to address potential bias due to non-random selection.
