The Bloomfields mark 20th year with the release of psychedelic new single “Get Up”

The track is written by band members Rocky Collado and Lakan Hila

Ahead of their highly anticipated 20th anniversary show this month, The Bloomfields have dropped “Get Up,” a new single that the band originally wrote in 2019.

Built around a single-chord jam, “Get Up” draws inspiration from the whimsical era of ‘60s psychedelic rock. The energetic track brims with a heavy dose of loud, droning guitars and hypnotic soundscapes, providing a stark contrast to their more pop-leaning work.

According to the band, they wrote the song without the intention of making a hit. “It felt wonderful to release it as our fourth single and share it with our audience.”

The Bloomfield explains, “It’s a high-energy track that felt perfect to release ahead of our 20th-anniversary show, getting people hyped and ready.”

Band members Rocky Collado and Lakan Hila penned "Get Up,” with the latter taking care of the mixing duties. Giving the track a retro feel with modern energy, Lakan made sure that his approach to production reflected The Bloomfields’ 1960s and 1970s aesthetic while embracing a hard-hitting, jam-driven sound.

The indie pop/rock outfit will be performing the song live for the very first time at Byaheng Mahiwaga: The Bloomfields 20th Anniversary Gig, happening on October 25, 2024, at Fin and Claw, Timog, Quezon City.

Chronicling their musical journey for the past two decades, the special show aims to “treat fans to a night of memorable music and fun” as The Bloomfields perform some of the most iconic originals from their catalog, along with notable covers from their repertoire.

The highly anticipated event will include a full-length set from The Bloomfields, a performance by High Targets, a Motown-influenced ska/reggae band, and a special reunion with former bandmate Dino Pascual, who is preparing to launch his solo career next year.

Tickets are available via bloomfields.helixpay.ph.

The Bloomfields’ “Get Up” is out now on all digital music platforms worldwide via Lilystars Records.

Phum Viphurit Goes Deeper into the World of Paul Vibhavadi in “Balter Baby”

After surprising fans with his story-driven conceptual single “The Other Side”, Bangkok-born singer-songwriter Phum Viphurit goes even deeper into the world of his alter ego Paul Vibhavadi on “Balter Baby”, the second single from his upcoming EP PAUL VIBHAVADI VOL. 1. Released to streaming platforms on October 9, 2024, this dance-oriented piece is Phum’s first instrumental-only track that showcases another side of his musical tastes and capabilities. An animated music video for “Balter Baby” by Shea Oracheski and James Bedggood based on Phum’s concept will also debut on the official Phum Viphurit YouTube channel.

In terms of narrative, “Balter Baby” picks up just before where “The Other Side” left off, in which the lovable sloth Paul Vibhavadi is grappling with his newfound adulation amongst a sloth-worshipping tribe he stumbled upon during his journey in search of the magical forest of Himmapan. “I wanted to expand on a part of the previous music video when it shows the tribe worshipping him, almost like an Ari Aster, Midsommer-type dance,” says Phum. “So it’s showing Paul in the trance of that, what he was feeling in that dance sequence.”

Intriguingly, Phum opted to convey this chapter of Paul’s story via an instrumental track with no vocals, once again pushing the boundaries of his music in the process. “I’ve done instrumental-heavy music, but always with glimpses of my voice. This one’s purely for people to dance to,” says Phum. “Honestly, if you go through the last fifty of my liked Spotify songs, I would say 45 of them are instrumental music. When I’m looking for inspiration, I try to write lyrics over pre-existing instrumentals, and I wanted to deconstruct that method by, ‘Hey, what if I can capture someone’s attention or move their head along to this three-minute house track that’s guitar-based with some synths?’ It was an interesting challenge, but also fits within the theme of the story.”

Regarding the specific influences for “Balter Baby”, Phum says, “I listened to a lot of Modjo, a dance group from the 2000s. I also listened to a lot of Seventies Motown, funk and disco. But most of it was led by the visual, because I directed the ‘The Other Side’ music video and was pretty heavily involved in the animation process for the ‘Balter Baby’ video. So I was thinking of Paul’s story and what particular soundtrack would suit this scene.” Indeed, the music of “Balter Baby” perfectly complements the video that takes us into Paul’s mind as his immersion into this new world that has embraced him sees him grooving along like a retro dance video game character.

The choice of “Balter Baby” as a single also further emphasizes the boldness of Phum Viphurit’s exploration on the PAUL VIBHAVADI VOL. 1 EP, while still making sense within the context of the project. “I felt like it was going to introduce a new house-inspired song like ‘The Other Side’, I needed a bit of a continuation before I break from that tempo and texture, so ‘Balter Baby’ was the most natural selection to me,” he says. “It’s like, ‘Hey, it’s not just a one-off thing.’ I’m playing with the idea of trance, movement and motifs throughout the whole EP.”

The end of the “Balter Baby” video sees Paul Vibhavadi enclosed in a glowing orb as he floats away from that tribe, and the audience is free to draw their own conclusions – or look for more answers when the PAUL VIBHAVADI VOL. 1 drops on October 17. “I know it’s quite a conceptual piece of work, and there’ll be many different interpretations of it,” says Phum. “But I’m so excited to show my creativity and make people feel something again with this next piece of work.”

85% of Filipino talent are either happy or neutral about their jobs vs pre-pandemic, according to Jobstreet by SEEK

According to the leading online job portal Jobstreet by SEEK’s Employee Job Happiness Index 2024, 85% of working Filipinos reported a positive or neutral response when asked about how satisfied they were with their current jobs, compared to 68% before the pandemic.

Aiming to identify the triggers that make a job enjoyable for Filipinos, the Employee Job Happiness Index 2024 surveyed over 900 respondents from various industries and specializations nationwide, asking them questions regarding their overall job satisfaction and experience in their respective companies.

When asked about how satisfied they were with their job, 85% of respondents shared a neutral or positive answer, which equals to an overall Happiness Index Score of 4.52 over a total of 7 points with 7 being the most positive. This is a much higher percentage than in Jobstreet by SEEK’s 2017 Job Happiness Index, with 68% of Filipino employees answering the same.

The respondents cited having work mobility, work-life balance, and an inclusive work setup as attributing factors to being satisfied with their current job.

85% of respondents gave a positive or neutral response when they were asked “how happy/satisfied are you with your present job?”

The report has also noted that talent who are currently working remotely or are under the work-from-home (WFH) setup showed better job satisfaction scores, with employees fully working remotely scoring 4.82 out of 7. The same employees cited a higher satisfaction when it comes to work-life balance, scoring 4.92. With the growing number of jobs offering a WFH arrangement, this has positively impacted the country’s overall Job Satisfaction score.

Meanwhile, when it comes to job satisfaction among Filipinos in different parts of the country, employees from the National Capital Region (NCR) scored the lowest at 4.46, which can be attributed to the region’s high traffic congestion and difficult mobility, leading to a stressful commute for employees going to work, and in turn, affecting their overall job satisfaction. Workers from Mindanao, on the other hand, were most likely to be satisfied with their careers, scoring an average of 4.59.

Among Filipino talent of different generations, Gen Z was the least likely to be satisfied with their current jobs, scoring a 4.28 in the Happiness Index Score for those between the ages of 23 and 27. This may be inferred from a widening gap of perceptions when it comes to work culture and work-life balance among younger and older colleagues.

Interestingly, employees who are married or partnered reported higher levels of job satisfaction, scoring 4.60 in comparison to single employees who scored 4.46, which may be attributed to employees having found a good work-life balance in handling their personal relationships with their careers.

Overall, the survey revealed that Filipino workers are happier in their jobs when they are given the appropriate work arrangement and opportunity to develop and be promoted by their employers. The said report also identified career development and verticality as the main contributors to happiness at work among the respondents, followed by training opportunities and salary.

Evidently, the survey revealed that those who work remotely are most likely to be satisfied with their jobs, revealing how the pandemic also affected perceptions about work and normalized the work-from-home setup.

“Our survey shows that Filipino candidates nowadays weigh multiple factors in determining their happiness and satisfaction with their jobs. As a talent partner, Jobstreet by SEEK encourages hirers to take these into consideration and provide a conducive, satisfying work environment that not only benefits current employees but also potential candidates to improve employee morale and traction,” shared Dannah Majarocon, Managing Director of Jobstreet by SEEK in the Philippines.

Jobstreet by SEEK, as a leading career-seeking platform, remains steadfast in providing future and current employees the opportunity to be guided in their career paths, as well as provide insights on employment for both companies and the public sector to consider when it comes to employee well-being and development.

(Photo: October 10, 2024 during the topping off ceremony of the 548-room Hotel101-Cebu Mactan Airport)

The 548-room Hotel101-Cebu Mactan Airport project will form part of the long term goal of Hotel101-Global’s 1 million operating Hotel101 rooms worldwide before 2050. Out of the 1 million operating Hotel101 rooms global target before 2050, 50,000 are intended to be in the Philippines, which is expected to further cement the position of DoubleDragon’s Hotel101 to become the largest hotel company in the Philippines, and become one of the Top 5 hotel companies in the world.

The 548-room Hotel101-Cebu Mactan Airport project has been 100% fully sold out as all the units have been pre-sold prior to the project completion.

Hotel101-Cebu Mactan Airport with its 548 rooms is poised to be the biggest airport hotel in the Visayas and Mindanao Region and currently ongoing construction on a 5,493 square meter prime commercial lot along the Cebu Mactan Airport Terminal Road near Mactan Marina Mall.

With Hotel101–Cebu Mactan Airport as a new addition to Hotel101’s operating recurring revenue-generating hotel inventory, Hotel101 will also have additional strategic seeds in place towards its near term goal of becoming the top-of-mind branded hotel chain in the country and eventually, in other parts of the world. The 548-room Hotel101-Cebu Mactan Airport project has been 100% fully sold out as all the units have been pre-sold prior to the project completion

The next milestone is the opening of Hotel101-Cebu Mactan project which is expected within the first half of 2025, which will follow the expected opening of 519-room Hotel101-Davao project. Both Hotel101-Cebu Mactan and Hotel101-Davao will add more than 1,000 additional operating rooms to the Hotel101 Group in the next few months. More Hotel101’s are currently on simultaneous development in various parts of the Philippines and overseas.

Hotel101 adopts dynamic pricing on its room rates similar to airline tickets where its room price moves up and down depending on the real time supply and demand on the chosen date of booking.

The Asset Light Hotel101 concept allows DoubleDragon to generate revenue and income twice, first from the pre-selling of the Hotel101 Happy Rooms, then second after the project is constructed it generates long term recurring revenue from hotel operations.

DoubleDragon’s Total Equity is set to exceed Php100 Billion for the first time in 2024. The Company is positioned to become one of the few companies in the Philippines with Total Equity at 12 digit level. DoubleDragon happens to be one of the very few companies that has not only positioned a diversified hard asset portfolio spread out across the Philippines, but it also happens to be one of the very few that has organically developed a novel asset-light concept and highly unique business model in Hotel101 (HBnB) that is portable and exportable to other continents globally. The export of Hotel101 is expected to eventually become one of the major US Dollar inflow generator to the Philippine economy.

DoubleDragon Corporation is one of a handful of companies in the Philippines that has accumulated a completed recurring income portfolio of 1.3 million square meters in diversified hard assets in office leasing with its Jollibee Tower, DoubleDragon Plaza at DD Meridian Park complex, its string of CityMall community centers, its string of CentralHub warehouse complexes, and its string of Hotel101 projects in the Philippines and overseas.

For most Filipinos, practicality is the name of the game. If the nature of your work requires constant movement or travel, your smartphone is at risk of taking accidental tumbles. The OPPO A3 will take your worries away with it being OPPO’s most durable A Series device yet.

Fortified with Military-Grade Shock Resistance and SGS Standard Certification, the OPPO A3 can withstand falling up to 20 times from as high as 1.2 meters without incurring any operational damage or affecting its functionality. Additionally, OPPO A3 is the only smartphone in its price range that’s dual-certified drop-resistant.

Don’t be fooled by the OPPO A3’s durability because its sleek design for its price point will make you stand out among the crowd. With the initial colorways like Sparkle Black and Starry Purple and now Starlight White, you can mix and match your OOTDs with your OPPO A3 and radiate elegance in your daily outfits for school or work.

Made to face unpredictable weather and situations

Smartphones being damaged from water is a legitimate fear for everyone. But you can leave it to the OPPO A3’s Multiple Liquid Resistance and Splash Touch Technology to provide peace of mind if ever you’re caught in unpredictable weather changes or situations where you can’t avoid getting wet.

If you are in a rush and accidentally get your OPPO A3 drenched with various types of liquid such as coffee, tea and even hot soup, worry no more because you can go on and do what you need to by just rinsing it off with water.

And if you are using your phones while being outside during your commutes or running an errand and a sudden downpour occurs, the OPPO A3’s Splash Touch Technology also allows precise and responsive scrolling even when the screen gets wet, allowing you to send that important message or making that urgent call.

Made to power you through a long day

Filipinos tend to go online for most of the days, whether it's via WiFi or data connection. That can easily drain your smartphone’s battery but the OPPO A3 is built differently. Packing a powerful 5,100mAh battery, you can go through your everyday task at school or work and be home with your device still having power.

You also don’t have to worry about missing any important update because the OPPO A3’s 45W SUPERVOOC™ Flash Charge empowers you to never skip a beat with its ability to reach 50% for just 30 minutes and fully charge for just 85 minutes.

Made for your indoor and outdoor battles

The OPPO A3’s 50MP Ultra-Clear Main Camera and 5MP Front Camera is ready to be your companion in immortalizing memories or simply snapping photos or taking videos of something you want to look back on.

Saw something that you want to take a picture of under broad daylight? The OPPO A3 makes it easy to do so with its ultra-bright LCD screen that delivers a seamless display at max 1,000 nits peak brightness in direct sunlight.

In its latest software update, the OPPO A3 now boasts OPPO’s pioneering BeaconLink technology, a feature that was launched in the OPPO Reno12 Series 5G. If you find yourself in a totally disconnected environment, your OPPO A3 can still make calls with supported devices via Bluetooth from distances of up to 80 meters in open and unobstructed areas and about 10 meters in crowded places.

Made for hardworking Filipinos

First launched in the 6GB ROM and 128GB RAM variant, the OPPO A3 is now available in two higher storage variants - the 8GB ROM and 128GB RAM at PHP 9,999 and 8GB ROM and 256GB RAM at PHP 11,999 in Starlight White and Sparkle Black. Check them out in all official OPPO stores nationwide and online via OPPO’s e-commerce platforms on Shopee, Lazada and TikTok Shop.

You can also purchase either of the two versions via Home Credit for as low as PHP 509 per month for up to 18 months installment payment.
