Students and teachers of Butig National HS cope with the new normal of teaching - With new PLDT computer lab donation

Caught in the crossfire between Maute rebels and government forces, Butig National High School in Lanao del Sur turned into a battleground four years ago, leaving in shambles what had been the only computer school in the province. Not until PLDT came in, to help rebuild it. Four years on, Butig National High School is back up and running, and ready to serve its students in a pandemic under the new normal.

With the help of PLDT, the new computer laboratory will enable students and teachers to have adequate access to learning resources and innovative technology. The donation becomes a technical hub for students where they can develop competencies on programming and hardware servicing.

In partnership with the Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP), the donation includes 20 refurbished computer units. It also has a set of teacher’s table and chair, two toilets for male and female and 45 seats for students.

“PLDT is a strong advocate of equal learning opportunities for all. Amid the pandemic, we want to ensure that schools are provided with the best tools and resources as they transition to blended learning. In partnership with the PBSP, we hope that the computer laboratory will enable the students and teachers of Butig National High School to enhance their digital skills and competencies,” said PLDT Community Relations Head Katherine P. Diaz De Rivera.

The computer laboratory was funded by the Balik-Baterya Program of PBSP and Motolite, in which PLDT is the biggest donor. The project was supported by the Municipality of Butig; the Provincial Government of Lanao Del Sur; the Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education (MBHTE) Division of Lanao del Sur II; the Philippine Army 49th Infantry Battalion; and Butig National High School.

“Prior to the pandemic, PBSP and PLDT have been working together to help address the issues of poverty and exclusion. The town of Butig, Lanao del Sur was a central flashpoint for underdevelopment and violent extremism. Heeding the call of the community and other stakeholders, PLDT’s response to bridge the gaps in education and digital literacy are necessary tools out of poverty. It is even more relevant during this time of the COVID pandemic where blended learning will be needed,” said PBSP President and CEO Reynaldo D. Laguda.

Moreover, the donation has greatly contributed in bringing change to the community. Through the efforts of PLDT and PBSP, more support from the private sector and other organizations has poured in. These corporate social responsibility (CSR) projects have become a symbol of peace and development in Butig. Old residents have come home and settled in this small part of Lanao del Sur located in the South of Marawi City.

With 16 barangays, Butig has been the cradle of the Maranao civilization. It is also known to be the oldest community in mainland Mindanao.

Shopee Strengthens Supports for Brands to Reach Millions of Online Customers with 10.10 Brands Festival

Shopee continues its strong support for brands with the 10.10 Brands Festival. As more businesses explore the potential of e-commerce during the pandemic, Shopee is committed to providing the optimal environment to help brands of all sizes launch, scale, and succeed online.

Three leading brands share how they utilize Shopee’s robust suite of marketing and operational solutions, including in-app features and big campaigns to accelerate their business growth online.

Unilever realized the potential of Shopee’s in-app features with its Beauty That Cares Campaign last August. Through ShopeeLive, Unilever spread awareness for its advocacy to help small and local businesses affected by the pandemic. Unilever also uses other Shopee in-app features like Flash Deals and marketing solutions to reach a wider audience and build a seamless and shopping experience for their consumers.

Jackie Mañago, Digital Commerce Marketing Manager at Unilever, said, “With the recent health crisis, we saw how consumer priorities have shifted and had to re-think the brand experience and find new ways to engage consumers. Thanks to our solid partnership with Shopee, we quickly adapted, strengthened our presence, and continuously served our shoppers amidst the pandemic.”

Despite the limitation of selling channels during the pandemic, Realme routed its focus on e-commerce and gave more importance to offering affordable devices for communication, e-schooling, and work at home with Shopee. Realme was also able to amplify its exposure and increase its sales by using Shopee’s marketing services like ShopeeLive, banners, and campaigns.

Eason de Guzman, Marketing Lead at Realme Philippines, said, “Through ShopeeLive, banners, and the famous Gadget Zone, we have been able to maximize our exposure and provide the best offers in our exclusive launches. Their platform creates a positive and inviting atmosphere, encouraging brands to participate in their campaigns. Since our partnership with Shopee began, we have seen stronger sales, whether it's a launch or sustaining.”

Since the start of the quarantine period last March, Alaska has been working closely with Shopee to boost their brand presence online. Alaska took advantage of Shopee’s highly visible in-app spots such as the flash deals section, marketing tools, and big campaigns to promote their products. With Shopee, Alaska saw 10x growth compared to last year.

Marx Benedict So, Digital E-Commerce Manager for Alaska Milk Corporation, said, “Data and media are the lifelines of e-commerce. Thanks to Shopee, we can check which of our ads and products perform well using the marketing tool. Segment buys also play a crucial role, especially if there will be an upcoming campaign as these can increase awareness and convert consumers who are not yet exposed to the brand.”

Martin Yu, Associate Director at Shopee Philippines, said, “At Shopee, brands form the backbone of our business. We have built a strong record of helping brands overcome business challenges and shift to online seamlessly with our strong ecosystem of solutions. We launched the 10.10 Brands Festival, the region's biggest online shopping event for brands, to provide brands the needed visibility to further scale their business online. We have also expanded our offerings to help our brand partners find success online, and we will continue to do so to support and empower brands to capture immense growth opportunities in the Philippines.”

Beat the stars with InLife’s Solid Future

Aries and Sagittarius are said to be impulsive spenders. Taurus, Cancers and Capricorns, they say, tend to spend carefully. Geminis, Libras and Leos love spending money without a care in the world while Virgos invest their hard-earned money wisely. Scorpios are good at making money and managing others’ as well. Aquarius are big-hearted and would give their money readily to charity, while Pisceans are dreamers who don’t care about money.

But really, should our signs be the determining factor when it comes to spending money and preparing financially?

In life, success is usually a product of long years of preparation. The earlier we start, the better because unexpected things that may derail our lives could happen in an instant. Like this pandemic. We have seen how it has ruined the health of many who were infected by it. Even more so, it brought financial crisis to those who were unprepared to lose their source of income because many businesses closed shop. Financial preparedness is evidently needed. However, wrong notions on getting a life insurance plan as provision for this need can block one’s path to financial freedom. InLife’s Solid Future solves this predicament.

Solid Future is an affordable peso-denominated life insurance plan with investment component.

“Young people, who have just gained employment, or got married, or had their first child naturally want to accomplish a lot, but at the same time, prepare for the future by setting aside a portion of their income for savings or investment.  Solid Future allows you to do this. For as low as P67 a day or P24,000 a year, you get to build funds earlier and faster  towards a solid and protected future,” said InLife Sr. Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer Gae L. Martinez. Solid Future’s low initial charges give the fund potential to grow much faster than other life insurance products in the market. This makes it ideal for Filipinos who want to start saving for long-term goals such as own business venture, , purchase of property, education funds, or retirement.

InLife’s Automated Underwriting System also gives insurance application decisions in as fast as 30 minutes, while regular payments may be made via Automatic Debit Arrangement with banks, making it easier for customers to avail of Solid Future. InLife has also recently partnered with Electronic Commerce Payments or ECPay with over 8,000 payment centers nationwide including convenience stores, pawnshops, remittance and bayad centers, and rural banks, making it easier to pay premiums during times when movement is limited.

Beating the stars on your way to financial freedom is a must. Let InLife’s Solid Future accompany you in that journey.
