Pilipinas Shell Foundation, Inc. Launches First Textile Circulatory Hub

In partnership with ANTHILL, Maybank Foundation, and the Quezon City Government, the new Circularity Hub in Payatas empowers women weavers and promotes sustainable textile innovation

Pilipinas Shell Foundation, Inc. (PSFI), in partnership with ANTHILL, Maybank Foundation, and the Quezon City LGU, officially launched the Manila Circularity Hub under the ReShell: Weaving Waste Project located at the Payatas Controlled Disposal Facility.

Lorelie Quiambao-Osial, President and CEO of Shell Pilipinas Corporation and Country Chair of Shell companies in the Philippines, and Hon. Joy Belmonte, Mayor of Quezon City, lead the launch of the first Textile Circularity Hub in Payatas, together with representatives from ANTHILL, Maybank Foundation, and Pilipinas Shell Foundation, Inc.

The Manila Circularity Hub is part of Re-Shell: Weaving Waste, a two-year initiative under Shell LiveWire that transforms textile waste into reusable materials such as uniforms and corporate giveaways, reducing landfill and ocean waste.

The hub features 10 looms, five of which are sponsored by Shell, and will train 10 women from Payatas to become community weavers equipped with sustainable livelihood skills. Additionally, 10 mothers from the non-profit organization Dear Me will receive sewing training to enhance their skills and increase their income opportunities.

The launch of the hub reflects Shell’s belief that sustainable change is built through collaboration. As part of Shell’s 111-year legacy in the Philippines, initiatives like this embody the company’s commitment to turning challenges into opportunities through innovation and partnerships. “When you have partners who share your values, work becomes easier, lighter, and much more meaningful,” said Lorelie Q. Osial, President and Chief Executive Officer of Shell Pilipinas Corporation.

Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte also highlighted the launch of the country’s first Textile Circularity Hub as a major step in addressing the growing problem of textile waste. Under her leadership, she is championing circular economy fashion while empowering the women of her city by allowing them to build sustainable livelihoods and meaningful community impact.

Through this collaboration, Shell and its partners reaffirm that real change begins with collective action, proving that sustainability thrives when organizations come together to build a more sustainable future. On top of that, this initiative is part of PSFI's expansion to providing livelihood support and LEAD (Leadership, Empowerment, and Development) training, continuing its commitment to inclusive growth and community resilience.

“What may be a waste to some can be a source of hope, livelihood, and dignity to others,” Lorelie Q. Osial shared, emphasizing the impact of the initiative. “This kind of partnership is powerful because each of us brings something different to the table and somehow, all the pieces just found their way together, by grace and purpose.”

Manulife Launches Global Longevity Institute Committing $350M by 2030 to Accelerate Progress on Lifelong Health and Financial Resilience

Global research, advocacy and community investment platform created to advance innovation that will reimagine aging and lifelong well-being

Initial actions include new research with Milken Institute, Longevity Symposiums across global markets, and more

Manulife announced the launch of the Longevity Institute, a global platform that will seek to drive action to help people live longer, healthier, and more financially secure lives. Backed by a $350 million commitment, the Longevity Institute will work to champion research, innovation, and partnerships that will help people thrive at every age.

As a global leader in life insurance, asset management, and retirement planning, Manulife is deeply invested in the health and well-being of its customers. However, the gap between how long people live (lifespan) and their quality of life (healthspan) is widening — with many spending up to 20% of their lives in poor health, and nearly 40% facing financial insecurity as they age[1]. The Longevity Institute aims to close this gap by reimagining how people live, work, learn, and contribute throughout their lives.

“Empowering health, wealth, and longevity is central to Manulife’s bold new ambition. It aligns with our values and our commitment to the communities we operate in, and we are uniquely placed to help individuals and families navigate the growing gap between lifespan and healthspan,” said Phil Witherington, President and CEO of Manulife. “For generations now, Manulife has supported customers at every stage of life, and we see a powerful opportunity to scale our expertise and help even more people live longer, healthier, better lives. Through the Longevity Institute, we will partner with organizations that share our purpose, unlock new insights, drive innovation, and create a future where everyone can thrive—at any age.”

The Longevity Institute will focus on igniting global research and thought leadership to better understand how people can flourish as they live longer; accelerating innovation and advocacy through initiatives that promote health, wellness, and financial readiness; and investing in community partnerships that advance knowledge, promote equity, and drive action around longevity.

Steve Finch, President & CEO, Manulife Asia said,With the demographic shifts in Asia, where one in four people will be over the age of 60 by 2050, it's crucial to rethink traditional approaches to financial planning, health care, and workforce participation. At Manulife, we are committed to driving innovation that promotes long-term financial resilience, equitable healthy aging, and lifelong fulfillment. By supporting early-stage innovations and providing comprehensive solutions, we aim to help people live better for longer and secure their financial futures.”

Initiatives

Manulife has a long history of driving impact through programs, products, services, and community investments dating back to 1888, when Manulife gifted an ambulance to the City of Toronto—its first act of public service to help people live longer, healthier lives.

To mark the launch of the Institute and build on our long history of impact, Manulife is pleased to share new and ongoing initiatives that reflect our commitment to advancing longevity through meaningful action:

Partnering with the National Institute of Ageing: Manulife is supporting the National Institute on Ageing’s annual Ageing in Canada Survey, conducted in partnership with Toronto Metropolitan University. This important research explores the lived experiences of Canadians aged 50+ to inform policies that promote healthy aging.

Partnering with the Milken Institute: Manulife has supported the Milken Institute to advance thought leadership and research on some of the most critical issues shaping longevity and the future of health. Feeding Change's work and recent policy brief highlight opportunities for strengthening resilient fruit and vegetable production and integrating food into health interventions. The Future of Aging initiative and new report, Longevity Ready: A Systems Approach to Aging Well at Home, elevates solutions enabling current and future generations to prepare for longer, healthier lives in their homes and communities.

Longevity Symposiums: The Manulife and John Hancock Longevity Symposiums began in Boston two years ago and are now expanding globally. Recently, Manulife Singapore and Manulife Philippines hosted inaugural events in Asia, bringing together healthcare experts, industry leaders, financial consultants, customers, and partners—to explore how people can live not just longer, but better. John Hancock will host its third Longer. Healthier. Better. Longevity Symposium in the U.S. in April 2026.

The launch of the Longevity Institute quickly follows John Hancock’s inaugural Longevity Preparedness Index — developed with MIT AgeLab, which measures how ready U.S. adults are to thrive as they age. This index will expand to cover Canada in future years and provides insights that support the need for continued longevity advancements and innovations.

Outcomes

The Longevity Institute will build upon Manulife’s existing efforts to help more than 36 million customers improve their health and wealth. This work aims to drive the following outcomes:

Health: Help people make everyday choices that support their physical, mental, and emotional well-being—through better nutrition, early detection, movement, and mental health support that fits into real life.

Wealth: Empower people to feel confident about their financial future, with tools, education, and support that help them weather life’s ups and downs and build lasting financial security.

A comprehensive list of the Institute’s work and partnerships to date can be found in this fact sheet. The Institute will be known as the John Hancock Longevity Institute in the United States. For more information on the Longevity Institute, and to stay up to date on the Institute’s actions, insights, and events through 2030, visit Manulife.com/Longevity.

Meet the Top 10 finalists of Samsung Solve for Tomorrow, each aiming for PHP 2 million in prizes and Samsung gadgets

It’s now official! Samsung reveals the Top 10 finalists of its global program, Solve for Tomorrow competition – now in its 3rd year in the Philippines, and 15th year globally.

Bringing fresh ideas to real-world challenges, Samsung continues its mission to inspire the Filipino next-gen heroes with the return of Solve for Tomorrow 2025, as part of Samsung’s global initiative, partnering with the Department of Education (DepEd) to showcase innovative solutions from all government science high school students in grades 8 to 10, addressing challenges faced by their local communities.

The teams that will move forward to compete for the top 3 grand-winning prizes are: FloodSafe Routes AI from Philippine Science High School - Caraga Region Campus; Mangrove Health Monitor (MaHeMo) from Cavite Science Integrated School; SINAG from Bansud NHS - Regional Science High School; SARIMAX from Pasay City Science High School; The S.W.E.A.T Project from Philippine Science High School Main Campus; ShellTer from Philippine Science High School - Central Luzon Campus; VITALBAND from Marikina Science High School; S.A.G.I.P from Cavite Science Integrated School; BANTALAY from Tuguegarao City Science High School; and EGGNovation from Cavite Science Integrated School.

This year, Samsung garnered over 300 submissions, involving more than 1,000 students from across the Philippines. Each team, with up to four student members, was tasked to create a proposal following this year’s themes: Environmental Sustainability through Technology, Social Change through Tech and Sport, and Solving Community Problems with Artificial Intelligence (AI).

To evaluate this year’s entries, Samsung convened with a distinguished panel of industry leaders from the fields of technology, innovation, and education. The panel includes Monchito Ibrahim, the Executive Member of the National Innovation Council; Michelle S. Alarcon, President of Analytics & Artificial Intelligence Association of the Philippines; Alwyn Rosel, Executive Director of IdeaSpace Foundation and QBO Innovation; and Rachelle Perez, the Campus Program Lead of DEVCON Philippines, together with Dianne Capuz, Head of Consumer and Market Insights from Samsung Electronics Philippines.

The 10 finalists will now embark on an idea mentorship with Samsung experts, collaborating with their assigned coach to refine proposals, build proof-of-concepts, and create mock-ups ahead of the final presentation. This December, they will be presenting their proposals live for a chance to win over PHP 2 million in cash prizes and Samsung devices for their schools, teams, and teacher advisers. Joining the judging panel for the final round is Julius Arguson, Head of Product Engineering and Technical Compliance at Samsung Electronics Philippines.

“We are very happy with the increasing interest in Solve for Tomorrow, as we can see from the growing number of entries and teams joining the competition every year. It shows that more and more students from Science High Schools nationwide are harnessing their STEM knowledge and skills to help solve the issues their communities face, so we can have a better tomorrow,” shared Minsu Chu, President of Samsung Electronics Philippines.

“It is truly a special competition this year as we celebrate our 15th year globally for Solve for Tomorrow, and an honor to witness our Next-Gen Heroes share their innovative ideas powered by science and technology. We look forward to what our top 10 Next-Gen heroes have to offer as they move to the final round of the competition,” he added.

Back and bolder in its third year in the Philippines, Samsung Solve for Tomorrow continues to champion the creativity and compassion of Filipino youth. With this year’s focus on developing real-world solutions through the power of technology and artificial intelligence, the program inspires students to uplift their local communities—proving that innovation is most meaningful when it creates positive change where it matters most.

eufy Launches the World’s First Heated Wearable Pump—Quiet, Hands-Free, and Built for Modern Moms

The eufy Heated Wearable Breast Pump E20 champions innovation and comfort

Being a mom in a modern, fast-paced world has taken an entirely new look. Today, moms are project managers, career women, and business partners. But they’re also nurturers at home, juggling endless to-do lists. With so many things running through the mind of the modern mom each day, the last thing she should have to worry about is the stress of pumping.

Breastfeeding is already a major commitment, and it can be taxing emotionally and physically. While traditional breast pumps have helped moms in the past, the wires, the noise, and the need to sit still in one place for long stretches often make it a struggle to find the time or energy to keep up with so many other things still left to do.

That’s why eufy, a smart home brand launched by Anker Innovations, has expanded its thoughtful design philosophy into products that support the needs of today’s parents. The latest addition to its growing lineup of mom-focused solutions is the eufy Wearable Breast Pump E20, made for today’s multitasking modern mom.

A Smarter, Freer Way to Pump

For many moms, the biggest challenge of traditional breast pumping is comfort. They either feel stuck, have to sit still, or deal with soreness after longer sessions.

The eufy Wearable Breast Pump E20 comes in a fully wireless and hands-free design, giving them the freedom and convenience to move around as they pump. Whether they’re fixing documents at home, answering emails, or spending a few quiet minutes reading a book, the E20 lets them do it all without the hassle of staying glued to one spot.

Its ergonomic design also secures a secure and gentle fit to reduce any feelings of soreness afterwards, and its leakproof build adds to peace of mind. It’s simple improvements to the experience that relieves them of many worries.
The eufy Heated Wearable Breast Pump E20 comes with three (3) adjustable heat levels through its HeatFlow™ technology

At the core of its design is HeatFlow™ technology, which uses gentle warmth to help stimulate milk flow and reduce any discomfort, mimicking a baby’s natural feeding rhythm. The E20 comes with pre-set pumping rhythms and adjustable suction levels, so moms can personalize how they use the pump to the setting that gives them the most ease.

Designed for Quiet Moments

Peace and privacy are luxuries for any mom – especially after a long busy day. In case she still needs to pump during the late-night or while the rest of the family sleeps, the E20 features an ultra-quiet motor for near-silent operation that allows moms to pump without any noise breaking the peace.

Calmness also comes from feeling in control. Moms can pair the E20 with the eufy app giving them full control right from their phone. They can adjust control settings, monitor suction strength, and track sessions in real time.

Even with its compact size, the E20 keeps up with even the busiest routines, offering up to six sessions per full charge. When it’s time to clean up, every part that comes in contact with milk is easy to wash, and it’s BPA-free and safe!

Helping Moms Reclaim Their Time

Motherhood is a nonstop job, but with tools like the eufy Wearable Breast Pump E20, moms can reclaim moments they might have lost to pumping. WIth this latest innovation, eufy continues its mission to bring smart simplicity to modern living, and now, to one of the most meaningful aspects of it – motherhood. Life After Diagnosis: TGP and PCEDM Empower Filipinos to Live Better with Diabetes

So paano na nga kapag may diabetes ka na?

Magbabago ba ang buhay mo? Mahirap ba? These are the questions many Filipinos face upon learning they have diabetes—a chronic condition that, when unmanaged, can lead to serious health complications.

A Growing Health Concern Among Filipinos

According to the Department of Health (DOH), around 4.3 million Filipinos are currently living with diabetes, making it one of the top causes of death in the country.

Globally, the World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that diabetes causes approximately 1.5 million deaths each year, with the Western Pacific Region—where the Philippines belongs—seeing a steady rise in prevalence.

These “scary” numbers reflect a harsh reality: while diabetes is common, it doesn’t have to control one’s life. With proper education, timely consultation, and the right treatment, Filipinos can live long, full lives even after diagnosis.

TOP (L-R): Dr. Jay Fonte – PCEDM Board Member, Dr. Karla Kristine Fernando – PCEDM Board Member, Dr. Celeste Ramos – PCEDM Board Member, Dr. Daveric Pagsisihan – PCEDM Board Member, Dr. Monica Therese Cating-Cabral – PCEDM Treasurer, Gladys Abaday – TGP Brand Communications Manager, Dr. Aurora Macaballug, PCEDM Past President, Dr. Andres Ebison Jr. - PCEDM Board Member

BOTTOM (L-R): Dr. Jerome Barrera – PCEDM Secretary,  Dr. Elaine Cunanan – PCEDM Vice President, Dr. Lora May Tan-Tin Hay – PCEDM President, Aileen Natividad – TGP Deputy General Manager, Joanne Arceo – RRHI Drugstore Segment, Group General Manager, Abet Chao – TGP AVP Merchandising

Living Better, Not Just Longer

Diabetes experts from the Philippine College of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism (PCEDM) remind the public that diabetes management is possible through simple, consistent habits anchored on their long-standing IWAS: 4Dapat Diabetes Campaign advocacy:

  • Ikonsulta sa doktor
  • Wastong pagkain
  • Aktibong pamumuhay
  • Sapat at angkop na gamot

These four steps emphasize the importance of early diagnosis, proper nutrition, physical activity, and adherence to doctor-prescribed medication—principles that can drastically improve quality of life after a diabetes diagnosis.

TGP and PCEDM: Partners in Advocacy

To make credible diabetes education more accessible to Filipinos, The Generics Pharmacy (TGP) has partnered with PCEDM through a formal Memorandum of Agreement signed by TGP Deputy General Manager Aileen Natividad and PCEDM President Dr. Lora May Tan-Tin Hay.

The partnership seeks to strengthen nationwide efforts in diabetes awareness, prevention, and management by combining TGP’s extensive retail and community network with PCEDM’s medical expertise.

“This partnership reinforces our mission to make healthcare more accessible and reliable for every Filipino. By working hand-in-hand with PCEDM’s advocacies and medical expertise, we aim to bridge the gap between awareness and action when it comes to diabetes prevention,” said Natividad.

“Through this collaboration, we want Filipinos to know that life after a diabetes diagnosis is still full of hope and possibilities—with the right care, education, and support,” shared Dr. Tan-Tin Hay.

Empowering Communities Nationwide

Under this collaboration, both organizations will roll out advocacy initiatives across digital, in-store, and on-ground platforms—including expert-led talks and community health engagements.

TGP will lead the implementation of advocacy content while augmenting the dissemination of PCEDM’s social media contents.

The campaign will begin this World Diabetes Day, November 14, encouraging Filipinos to take charge of their health and embrace a more proactive, informed approach to living with diabetes. ###
