Filipinos only somewhat prepared for medical emergencies -- Allianz PNB Life

A recent study published by Allianz PNB Life reveals how Filipino millennials have adjusted to work and earning income during the pandemic. While some FIlipinos adjusted to working from home for the first time, some struggled to find other sources of income amidst rising prices, pay cuts, and unemployment.

While job and income security became a main concern among many Filipinos, Allianz PNB Life reveals it was only second in the list of challenges posed by COVID-19. According to the study, 80% of respondents were most concerned about keeping their families safe and healthy.

“The pandemic has definitely made more people conscious of their health. Besides making simple yet significant changes to their lifestyles such as eating more nutritious food, Filipinos are also starting to consider boosting their protection with insurance,” said Allianz PNB Life CEO Alex Grenz. The survey shows 76% of Filipinos without coverage are expected to avail of a health plan soon, especially within the year.

Despite most respondents claiming to already have Philhealth or HMO coverage, only 22% can say they are fully prepared for a medical emergency. Majority consider themselves only somewhat prepared for these emergencies, while the rest have much less confidence. Conditions like cancer, heart disease, kidney disease, and dengue continue to burden Filipinos and lead them to borrowing or using up life savings to pay for exorbitant healthcare fees.

“In the Philippines, the protection gap remains at trillions of pesos. A single crisis like cancer could instantly cost a family no less than Php 300,000 and lead to eventual financial ruin, which shouldn’t be the case when flexible and viable coverage plans are widely available,” said Grenz.

This is why Allianz PNB Life is pushing more future-proof plans like Allianz Well!, which covers vaccination and treatment for COVID-19 and Php 100 million for in-patient hospitalization, one of the highest limit-plans in the market today. There’s also eAZy Health, an affordable and renewable option that offers life, accident, and disability benefits along with more comprehensive coverage for critical illnesses, including cancer.

The major life insurer is also growing its online presence to keep in step with Filipinos’ current shift to digital. From telemedicine to online yoga, they now maximize digital means to take better care of their health. Platforms like Allianz’ Health Concierge and Life Changers help more Filipinos access quality insurance 100% online and from the safety of their homes.

“Inadequate coverage remains a common problem that only worsens in the time of COVID-19,” said Grenz. “Allianz PNB Life aims to raise awareness on the importance of good health and protection while providing sustainable and timely solutions for it.”

To help spread the information on the benefits of Psyllium Fibre and adopt a healthy, daily fiber habit is fitness buff, businesswoman, actress, and mother of one, Solenn Heussaff Bolzico.

Heussaff was the top choice for the brand because she represents the kind of people who prioritize the things that matter in life, including their digestive health.

Heussaff, who recently became a mother in 2020, knows that with this new role, she has more to live for, and has put a priority on her health now, more than ever.

Heusaff said: “I have been blessed to have an amazing husband and now a daughter, who support my endeavors. Now I have a new partner in health whom I can turn to, to keep my digestive health, even my cholesterol and sugar, in check.”

C-Lium Fibre through its dual cleansing action helps control cholesterol plus blood sugar levels, and promotes digestive health along with proper diet and regular physical activity.

C-Lium Fibre, which can be mixed with water or juice, consumed as a capsule, or poured over food, is best taken at the start of the day or in the morning along with breakfast.

MILO celebrates World Milk Day with 10 million jump skips

MANILA, Philippines (1 June 2021) – MILO, the country’s favorite powdered chocomalt milk drink, is celebrating World Milk Day by encouraging the entire nation to do 10 million jump skips along with the Department of Education (DepEd) students and Music, Arts, Physical Education, and Health (MAPEH) teachers from all over the Philippines.

World Milk Day is an international event observed every June 1 that recognizes the importance of milk as a global food, and MILO is joining in the celebration of its main ingredient.

“Milk is, in fact, the number one ingredient of our MILO Champion Formula. With this, plus our Champion Energy Nutrients, MILO provides protein and calcium to support bones and muscles, and the energy to reach 10 million skips as one nation,” said Veronica Cruz, MILO Business Executive Officer, Senior Vice President, Nestle Philippines, Inc.

The 10 million jump skips challenge runs for the entire month of June and is a part of the nationwide Jump Rope for the Public School System project, a tripartite partnership between DepEd, the Philippine Jump Rope Association (PJRA), and MILO.

“Mula noon hanggang ngayon, anuman ang panahon, MILO continues to nourish kids with the daily nutritious energy they need and the inspiration to grow with sports, and the life values that come with it. The current situation has left kids prone to be sedentary, so it’s vital that they nurture a daily habit of exercise. Our collaboration with PJRA and DepEd furthers our commitment to keeping kids active and healthy today, especially as they continue to stay at home,” added Cruz.

The nationwide challenge aims to catalyze jump rope as part of DepEd’s grassroots sports development program and properly train students, teachers, and school officials on the basics of the sport. MILO is supporting the initiative by (a) sponsoring jump ropes that DepEd will distribute to 150,000 Grade 4 students and 30,000 teachers across the country, (b) co-creating instructional videos with PJRA that are freely accessible through the MILO Sports Clinics Online (MSCO) programs on YouTube, and (c) sponsoring an interschool virtual tournament with the support of DepEd in school year 2021-2022.

MILO provides kids access to alternative home-based sports through the online programs co-created with its partner organizations. As activities are limited by what can be done indoors, jump rope has become a popular exercise for kids that requires minimal space and helps them stay fit and strong at home. All you need is a skipping rope and the winning energy to keep going. PJRA is the recognized local authority on jump rope, created to promote it as both a competitive sport and recreational fitness activity. The corporation is also sanctioned by the International Jump Rope Union (IJRU), the international governing body for the sport of jump rope/rope skipping.

“Jump rope is a fun activity for kids that can be done anywhere and any way. Studies also show that it can help improve motor skills and promote good mood. We are excited to work with MILO in spreading our love for jump rope and bringing it closer to kids through their online sports clinics,” said Noel Agra, President, Philippine Jump Rope Association.

DepEd is also exploring efforts to introduce jump rope to the schools’ physical education program, conduct physical or virtual training sessions and classes, and organize intra- and inter-school competitions. This is in line with its mission to find innovative ways to make learning fun and conducive for students at home.

“Active kids are better learners because exercise can help improve memory, behavior, and concentration. We’re delighted to partner with MILO once again as they help us achieve one of the goals of the Basic Education-Learning Continuity Plan in promoting the well- being and protection of learners in this new normal. This will increase the physical resilience of learners which will translate to improved academic performance,” DepEd Usec. Tonisito Umali, Esq., Undersecretary for Legislative Affairs, External Partnerships and Project Management Service, stated.

Join us from June 1-30 as MILO celebrates its main ingredient, milk, on World Milk Day with 10 million skips. Simply share a photo or video of you jumping rope and indicate the number of skips you made. Remember to include the official hashtags: #MILO10Mskips and #WorldMilkDay. You can also purchase special MILO bundled packs that come with a free MILO Home Court™ jump rope. Now available at Shopee and Lazada. Add to cart and jump in the fun!

On May 30, Sunday, Gen Z stars Jerome Ponce, Jane Oineza, Ricci Rivero, Melizza Jimenez, Chie Filomeno, Kent Gonzales, and Darwin Yu will bid viewers farewell with an unforgettably intriguing finale.

Born within 1997-2015, Generation Z has emerged as one of the more fascinating segments of the population, typically described as pragmatic digital natives who are politically progressive and money smart—and Gen Z, the family youth drama which made its debut last March on TV5, has successfully told this generation’s story of hopes, struggles, and heartaches.

Viewers witnessed the growing pains of Gen Z characters Matet (Oineza), brothers Jojo (Ponce) and Kiko/Koy (Gonzales), Michelle (Jimenez), Migo (Rivero), Gina (Filomeno), and Rico (Yu) as they stepped into young adulthood full of their dreams and ambition. Yet as the story progresses, the characters learn that life is full of challenges and responsibilities that they were not necessarily prepared for.

In its 13-episode run, the youth-family drama tackled various social issues faced in today’s reality. As the show started, the characters made us feel that they could not wait to dive into life and make their dreams come true. However, as they continue to take themselves through the realities of our world, they crumble in its weight, leading to dents on their mental health and struggles in their interpersonal relationships with their family and friends.
