The CompanY shows versatility in multi-genre album “Gitna”

Feat. the compositions of Maestro Ryan Cayabyab, Rey Valera, and more

The CompanY once again proves its musical versatility in its new album “Gitna,” a collection of multi-genre songs that tackle different themes of love and highlight the group’s amazing vocal harmony.

With its exploration of pop, jazz, electronica, dance, and acoustic folk, The CompanY’s 29th studio album—its first under ABS-CBN’s Star Music—delves into the length and breadth of vocal harmony in modern music styles showcased by equally talented members Annie Quintos, OJ Mariano, Moy Ortiz, and Sweet Plantado.

Its title “Gitna” also serves as the album’s key track and references the group’s core and centeredness amidst the changing tides and disruptions in music and contemporary living.

During the album’s virtual launch, Sweet said they chose “Gitna” as the key track for its uniqueness. “We chose a lot of songs from Star Music’s catalogue but we decided to zoom in on this because it’s not the usual love story and the way it combines the lyrics and melody is different. Moy also had this idea to make it a duet so when he gave it to me and OJ, it brought a different color to the song.”

Aside from “Gitna” which was composed by Davey Langit, the 10-track album consists of previously released tracks “Sumakabilang Puso,” “‘Sang Tawag Mo Lang,” “Disco Plantito, Disco Plantita,” “Sa May Bintana,” and “Walang Sayang.” Also part of the album are “Kumusta Ka” written by Rey Valera, “Hideaway” composed by Maestro Ryan Cayabyab, “Sukob Na” penned by Mortiz Edgar Frasco and Flores Alexeeb, and “Ambon” written by Nica Del Rosario.

Since The CompanY is composed of multi-talented members, Moy also served as the vocal arranger for all the songs and likewise co-produced some tracks in the album.

Asked about the challenges of making the album that features both seasoned and younger songwriters, Moy said, “The challenge was with the songs of the new generation songwriters, the way they compose music now is not so much formulaic—you can’t predict where the structure and melody of the song will go, and this is evident in ‘Gitna.’"

Meanwhile, an accompanying mini documentary on the making of the album has also been released on YouTube.

Formed in July 1985 by the alumni of the Ateneo College Glee Club, The CompanY initially performed as back-up vocalists for the pop stars of the ‘80s before becoming professional recording artists. Now dubbed as Asia’s premiere vocal harmony act, it is the most awarded vocal recording group in the Philippines who have shared the stage with the likes of The Manhattan Transfer, Jim Brickman, Michael Buble, Noel Pointer, John Ford Coley, and many more.

Stream The CompanY’s latest album “Gitna,” out now on various digital music platforms, and watch out for the music video of “Gitna” this Friday (March 25), 8PM on Star Music’s YouTube channel. Power of Seven: Women Behind Golden Haven

Every year, the International Women’s Month of March has become a propitious time for celebrating women for their amazing courage and influence in many spheres of life. They are “the hand that rocks the cradle”—and rocks the world—as they post extraordinary triumphs in their professions while nurturing home and hearth.

This imagery of empowered women is not lost on Golden Haven, the developer of the country’s most beautiful memorial parks. After all, the company is proud of the influential women who have helped make Golden Haven one of the most trusted names in the deathcare industry

Here, Golden Haven pays tribute to seven women from the executive suite who continue to make inroads in their careers with their leadership, self-confidence, and remarkable foresight.

Estrellita Tan

Estrellita Tan, Chief Financial Officer of Golden Haven Memorial Park is a self-proclaimed “dreamer from the province of Nueva Ecija.”

At the helm of the company is Estrellita Tan, Chief Financial Officer of Golden Haven Memorial Park. A self-proclaimed “dreamer from the province of Nueva Ecija,” Tan climbed the corporate ladder as a CPA by trade. Working her way up from being a staff auditor to being the chief financial officer of a leading real estate company, Tan managed to balance a productive work life with the fulfilling role of being a mother to four children.

Tan did so by defying the odds she encountered along the way. It takes true character to manage all the hats she had to wear as both an executive and as a mother. But she did so with grace, finding the energy to multi-task and walk the talk as a role model for those around her. Whenever unpopular decisions had to be made, Tan found a way to remain objective—and listened to her gut when a leap of faith was necessary.

Tan sends an inspiring message to all women this month: “Be outstanding. Despite the many challenges we encounter in our journey, we have the power to do incredible and great things,” says Tan.

Emelia Lustado

Emelia Lustado, Golden Haven Division Head for Visayas and Mindanao, believes that, "Where there is a woman, there is magic.”

Emelia Lustado, Golden Haven Division Head for Visayas and Mindanao, has been with the Villar company for 28 years now. She counts this as one of her greatest accomplishments, especially having spent the last four years with Golden Haven. An industrial engineer by trade, Lustado is also a mother of two who “appreciates people who have a positive outlook in life.”

To Lustado, success is defined as not giving up. “Even if it takes years to reach your goal,” she says, “persistence is key if you want success.”

Lustado acknowledges women’s immense capacity to make things happen. “Where there is a woman,” she affirms, “there is magic.”

Analyn Anero

Analyn Anero, the Division Head for Luzon, has been all over the country for Golden Haven.

Analyn Anero, the Division Head for Luzon, has been with Golden Haven for decades now. Her stint with the company has taken her all over the country, having been assigned to Las Pinas, Cagayan de Oro, Zamboanga, Iloilo, and Bulacan, just to name a few.

For Anero, being a leader proved to be one of the most significant challenges in her career path. “Need mo patunayan na kaya mo at may nagagawa ka, kahit pa minsan tahimik ka lang. There is no need to announce it to everyone.”

To Anero, quiet and humble leadership can take one far. She speaks about how passion and drive must fuel every woman’s life. “Don't be afraid to do what you want; keep fighting for your dreams.”

Maria Renee Regala

Maria Renee Regala, head of Golden Haven’s Information Technology Department is responsible for the company’s continued innovation in digital spaces.

Maria Renee Regala, better known as Ren, is the head of Golden Haven’s Information Technology Department. A goal-oriented person, she is responsible for the company’s continued innovation in digital spaces. For Regala, flexibility and balance have become the key to a successful career as she works to manage all her different roles in life.

“Success for me is when you maximize your potential,” says Regala. “Know yourself and know your worth. Do not let others look down on you.”

Kate Cator

Kate Cator, the CNC and Admin Head of Golden Haven, finds that success is something that never comes easy.

Kate Cator, the CNC and Admin Head of Golden Haven, is an accountant by profession—and a dog mom and plantita at home. When she is not investing her energy in helping run Golden Haven, Cator can be found baking or curled up with a good book and a cup of coffee.

For Cator, success is something that never comes easy. “Success for me requires a certain degree of sacrifice to be achieved,” says Cator. “That sacrifice is rewarded with what is worthy and valuable.”

Cator’s approach to leadership is one that is rooted in a sense of giving and nurturing. “My advice for women who lead or aspire to lead: love your flock. Leadership is not about the title and position; leadership is about influence.”

Joan Rimando

Joan Rimando, the HR Head of Golden Haven, credits her sense of discipline to being raised by a military father.

Joan Rimando, the HR Head of Golden Haven, credits her sense of discipline to being raised by a military father. Reminiscing on her childhood, Rimando proudly asserts that she and her siblings learned the value of hard work and determination early on. These principles drove her to build her career around research consultancy, while simultaneously teaching at a top university. For eleven years, Rimando bore the responsibilities both jobs required of her before eventually switching to the human relations field she’s in today.

Rimando points out that one of the greater challenges she has encountered in her life and work has been her tendency to overthink. Only when she pushed herself out of her comfort zone was she able to pursue new roles and diversify her experience. Small wonder, then, that for Rimando, success is about being happy. “Success is not something you chase; it is a state from within you,” she muses.

Rimando cautions other women not to limit themselves. “Don’t let anyone define who you are and what you can do,” she says. “Many people will have opinions about what you should do and when, but only you can define what is right for you. Follow your path.”

Miles Teretit

Miles Teretit, Chief Accountant at Golden Haven, sees success as the opportunity to do what you love.

Miles Teretit is the Chief Accountant at Golden Haven Memorial Parks. A CPA graduate of BS Accountancy from the University of the East Manila, she has been with the Villar group for eight years now.

A woman who knows how to work hard and play hard, she loves sports, plants, and travelling. To her success is the opportunity to do what you love and inspire others.

“Be yourself and do what makes you happy,” she reminds others. “Pray and be thankful.”

Lemon-Dou® is what the pursuit of perfection tastes like, says Myrtle Sarrosa and Chef JP Anglo

The Japanese philosophy of Kodawari is all about producing things with great care, ingenuity, and the best ingredients.

For the makers of Lemon-Dou®, one of Japan’s favorite chu-hi (shochu highball), this meticulous process of beverage crafting starts with a whole lemon--crushed, blended into a puree, and infused with a distilled spirit. Bubbles are added to complete this full-bodied, ‘wickedly good’ drink that serves ABV 3%, 5% and up to 9%.

Every step of the process is handled with painstaking detail, from the creation of the lemon base and dilution of the sugarcane-based spirit to infusion and bottling. The underpinning philosophy for a process like this is called kodawari--and while there is no English translation for it, every Japanese artisan would know by heart that it is a relentless and life-long pursuit of precision, quality, attention to detail, and craftsmanship.

Lemon-Dou® was first introduced in Japan in 2018 and then in the Philippines in Q4 of 2021 as an addition to Coca-Cola Philippines’ well-loved portfolio of sparkling beverages, juices, teas, and bottled water.

“Lemon-Dou® may have caught the Philippines by surprise. For the first time in Coca-Cola Philippines’ 110-year history, we introduced something alcoholic. Our commitment is to constantly serve products that delight and options that match an ever-changing consumer taste. The local market’s positive response to Lemon-Dou® affirms that Filipinos recognize our passion for beverage craftsmanship,’’ says Tony del Rosario, President of Coca-Cola Philippines.

A beverage made by and loved by craftsmen

During the holidays, Filipinos at home first got a taste of the unique lemon sour that is usually served in drinking establishments, and it caught the attention of local crafters like Chef JP Anglo and Myrtle Sarrosa.
As an adventurous restaurateur, Chef JP Anglo puts quality at the top of his list when cooking different dishes that cater to varying tastes. The same is true for the craftsmen behind Lemon-Dou, who are meticulous in their process of creating the drink—true to the Japanese philosophy Kodawari.

‘Chef Jayps’ is a champion for Philippine cuisine, a camp cook, a foodie, an adventurous restaurateur who set up Sarsa Kitchen, and who is now attempting to bring elevated Filipino food to Dubai.

“I love laborious roles in the kitchen because they made me realize, very early in my career, that repetition and a thorough immersion in a process can only make you a better cook,’’ says Chef JP.

He adds, ‘’The idea applies to both food and beverage crafting. As a chef, I need to know how to source quality ingredients. I need to know taste profiles and the techniques necessary to draw out flavors. In the course of running a restaurant, I may need to recreate a dish more than a hundred times in a month. Over and over, I would have to execute a dish with the same precision and attention to detail. I think the same is true for a Japanese chu-hi like Lemon-Dou® whose crafters are just as fanatical about quality as I am.’’

Cosplayer and gamer Myrtle Sarrosa is no stranger to the attention to detail required to execute a perfect cosplay. She recognizes this same type of craftsmanship necessary in creating Lemon-Dou, which quickly became a crowd favorite in Japan.

Myrtle Sarrosa, who has been a long-time fan of Japanese culture, began her crafter’s journey as a cosplayer and videogame content creator. No stranger to the amount of detail necessary to execute a perfect cosplay, Myrtle enjoys both the process of creating costumes and wearing them.

“Going to comic book conventions in full gear to interact with the fan communities is the final stage of a very long process. The planning stage is the longest--deciding on what character to portray and then collecting references and interpretations. This is followed by material prep work and finally, costume assembly,” says Myrtle. “You need to carry enough creativity and passion to craft costumes year in and year out. It is the same if you are a pastry chef or a beverage maker.”

‘’I think Lemon-Dou® became Japan’s favorite in such a short time because people understood the craftsmanship necessary to make a drink like it,’’ she concludes.

Consumers of age can now enjoy Lemon-Dou®, which is available in major supermarkets and retailers nationwide, such as SM, Robinsons, Shopwise, Landmark, S&R, and convenience stores such as Mini Stop, Family Mart, and Lawson. Customers can also order online via Boozy.ph, Cokebeverages.ph, Shopee, and Lazada.

In line with Coca-Cola’s responsible business practices, the company adheres to a strict Global Responsible Marketing Policy to ensure that its alcohol-based products are sold responsibly and sustainably. This includes adhering to responsible consumption and promotion that does not apply to anyone under the legal drinking age of 18.

Shopee Launches First #TatakPinoy Virtual Trade Fair of the Year

While MSMEs still comprise the majority of registered businesses in the country, a survey conducted by the Department of Trade & Industry (DTI) - Ecommerce Office in September 2020 showed that 73% of MSMES still require assistance in digitizing their operations.

Shopee remains committed to help MSMEs transition to digital easily and seamlessly as it once again partners with the DTI to launch the #TatakPinoy Virtual Trade Fair from March 18-24. This initiative is in line with Shopee’s goal to provide local MSMEs with the support that they need to grow their businesses online.

Through the week-long virtual trade fair, Shopee users will be able to discover and purchase Filipino-made essentials from a variety of shops ranging from snack food, health & beauty, groceries & pet stores, fashion, and more, at discounted rates. This year’s #TatakPinoy Virtual Trade Fair will feature a diverse range of local sellers from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. This is among Shopee’s many initiatives to empower local businesses to shift online and encourage users to support them. Alongside these virtual trade fairs, sellers are also provided with different marketing tools, training, and initiatives to help them maximize their businesses’ growth on the platform such as Shopee University Summit, where local MSMEs can learn ways to drive their business growth from industry speakers and leaders.

The virtual trade fair will also feature products from beloved Filipino brands such as Splash Personal Care, Zenutrients, Go Natural, Ever Bilena, San Miguel Foods, EQ, Lifeline Clothing, Sweetbaby, and Tala by Kyla.

DTI’s Bureau of Domestic Trade Promotion Director Marievic Bonoan says, “Being able to provide our local MSMEs with opportunities for growth and development is one of our top priorities at the DTI. We understand the important role e-commerce platforms, like Shopee, play in creating a seamless digital transition for MSMEs. Through initiatives like the #TatakPinoy Virtual Trade Fair, we believe that we can help these businesses maximize their full potential and make the digital transition smoother.”

Shopee Philippines Director Martin Yu says, “Supporting MSMEs is at the very core of what we do. We are deeply committed to creating more opportunities to help our local businesses adapt and thrive in the e-commerce industry through initiatives like our #TatakPinoy Virtual Trade Fair. We look forward to this opportunity to once again help our sellers in their e-commerce journey, and also allow our users to support these community-owned businesses.”

Aside from the wide range of products available at the #TatakPinoy Virtual Trade Fair, Shopee users will also also enjoy ShopeePay vouchers for 20% off with a minimum purchase of Php 300, valid on all #TatakPinoy: Virtual Trade Fair items this March 18-24.
