BABY & FAMILY EXPO PHILIPPINES (BFEP) 2014, “Shop + Learn + Play”, the biggest family event of the year, was officially launched last Friday December 5 at SMX Convention Center Manila, Hall 1, Pasay City.

On its second year, the best baby, kids, pregnancy and parenting products and services were all gathered in one place on a three-day fun-filled BABY & FAMILY EXPO 2014.

Gracing the ribbon cutting and opening ceremony was Department of Health Assistant Secretary Dr. Eric Tayag, who shared guidelines on building happy, healthier families. Johnson & Johnson’s Dr. Tricia Subido shared with the parents how to choose what’s best for their babies. Also, present during the event were Joana Marie Benitez, Agency Recruitment and Licensing of Sun Life Financial; Mark Salecina, Marketing Support Manager for Tupperware Brands Philippines; and Juan Carlos Villacis, Strategic Development Director of Wilkins, Dr. Maria Melanie Liberty Alcausin, Director of New Born Screening Reference Center; Bien Delgado, National Director of SOS Children Villages; and The Voice Philippines’ Thor Dulay and many more.

Highlight of the opening ceremony was the BFEP Brand Awards 2014, a recognition of distinguished brands who continue to manifest excellence in the baby, kids, pregnancy and parenting industry. Included in the roster of awardees for Innovative Product Awards were: Mustella (Best Maternity Products), Federated Distributors Inc. (MamyPoko & Evian) (Best Baby Care Products), Tula Baby (Best Baby Travel Gear), Miss Space Maker (Best Baby Bedding and Furniture), Learning Way (Best Educational Product), and St. Patrick (Best Baby and Children Apparels and Accessories). Special recognitions were given to the top eight brands for providing quality products in making Filipino lives better.

BFEP provide parents and expecting parents tips and trends from industry experts on various topics such as pregnancy, newborns, infants, toddlers, kids and parenting in the form of seminars, workshops, company presentations and interactive activities. One of the highlights of the event is the Philippine Family Summit on the second day of the expo. 

The summit focus on the four pillars that will help build a happy family home – financial wellness, good health, excellent education and lasting relationships. Moreover, children  enjoy interactive activities, exciting games, as well as the various attractions inside the hall, including, Toy Museum, World of Science, Arts & Crafts Studio, Face Painting Station, Wonderland Playground and many more.

Celebrity Tour at Casino Filipino in December

The Christmas stage is set for performances at the different Casino Filipino branches this December. 

Ai Ai delas Alas, Jose Manalo, Sitti and Nyoy Volante with Celebrity Tour at Casino Filipino this December.

December performances with funnyman Jose Manalo last week and on December 10 to be at Casino Filipino Ronquillo; and December 12, Casino Filipino Olongapo.

Globe Telecom initiates service restoration process

Actual field work to start as soon as weather permits

Globe Telecom said Sunday its network operations team has initiated service restoration process in areas affected by Typhoon Ruby. 

As of 2 pm, December 7, the process mainly involves assessment of the typhoon's impact on network infrastructure as weather remains unfavorable for field personnel to do actual field work.

Still, the company's operations team in Visayas is ready to address network concerns brought by Typhoon Ruby, weather permitting, Senior Vice-President for Corporate Communications Yoly Crisanto said. "The safety of our employees is our main priority at any given time. Needless to say, the company is ready to execute service restoration as soon as weather permits. We're hoping to undertake actual field work by tomorrow (Monday)," Crisanto said.

The telecommunications provider said initial assessment indicates there are no major outages caused by Typhoon Ruby, which made landfall in Eastern Samar Saturday night. Service disruptions were due mostly to power outages and misalignment of antennas following strong winds brought by the typhoon, she said.

As part of its preparation to cushion the impact of Typhoon Ruby, the mobile operator has prepositioned critical tools, spares and equipment to expedite recovery process. To minimize significant damage to network infrastructure, Globe also implemented a preemptive measures that include a temporary service interruption of mobile coverage in Eastern Samar. Full restoration may be completed within a 48-hour period after recovery efforts are initiated.

As of 12 pm of December 7, service interruptions have been monitored in some areas in the provinces of Biliran, Eastern Samar, Northern Samar, Leyte, Southern Leyte and Western Samar.

Kris Janson is Miss Intercontinental 2014 2nd Runner Up; sweeps special awards

Kris Tiffany Janson brought honor to the country in the 43rd Miss Intercontinental pageant in Magdeburg Germany earlier this morning, December 5, (December 4, 8 PM Germany Time) clutching the 2nd Runner Up title, and special awards, Miss Intercontinental Asia and Oceania and Miss Photogenic.

Kris owned the stage in the swimsuit and evening gown competition and wowed judges in the question and answer portion.

She was asked, “If you would meet a famous person celebrity no matter still alive or dead, who would you like to meet and why?”

To which she answered, “If I were to meet a famous person, I would want to meet Malalai Yousafzai – She’s a kid who fought for her right for education. I may not be able to jump into a bulletin to fight for my right, but I do have a voice. And if if would be lucky enough to bring home the crown, I would have a louder voice and be the voice of the voiceless and use this to help more people and bring happiness and joy to other people. Daankishen. “

Kris will be extending her stay in Germany indefinitely until tropical storm Ruby passes. Despite the distance, she sent a message: “I thank my fellow Filipinos who have shown overwhelming support to me during the competition. I am praying for my kababayans to keep safe during the storm.”

The title of Miss Intercontinental 2014 Queens were given to the best representatives per continent. Philippines tied with Thailand in Miss Intercontinental Asia and Oceania. Miss Intercontinental Africa was given to South Africa, Miss Intercontinental North America to Miss Cuba, Miss Intercontinental Europe to Miss Portugal, Miss Intercontinental South America to Miss Argentina.

Other special awards include Best Body for Miss South Africa, Best in National Costume for Panama, Best in Evening Gown for Puerto Rico, Miss Congeniality for Miss Canada.

The Property Expo Philippines (PEP) 2014 - “Your Property World”, the country’s largest real estate expo for residential and commercial properties, was officially launched at SMX Convention Center Manila, Pasay City last Friday, December 5, 2014.

The expo features 88 residential and commercial property developments in the country from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao, as well as innovative and reliable real estate product and service providers.
