Urban Living Collective to feature locally-made home products and ideas to millennials

Two-day event to be held July 30-31 at Capitol Commons

Looking to update the look of your pad and brighten up your space with locally-made furniture and home accessories?

Join other millennial homeowners at the Urban Living Collective, a two-day event happening on July 30 and 31 at one of the metro’s hippest lifestyle destinations, Capitol Commons.

Urban Living Collective will feature merchants offering a vast array of products and services that will address the needs of homeowners. At the event organized by Project 1 MNL, attendees will have a grand time shopping for items to deck their homes with—furniture, kitchenware, indoor plants, framed art, fur carpets, light boxes, vinyls and turntables, lamps, blinds, bedsheets and pillow covers, home scents, fire extinguishers, ceramics, cleaning detergents, organic snacks, and pantry favorites, among others.

"Project 1 MNL hopes to make decorating accessible and enjoyable for a new generation of homeowners through Urban Living Collective, the team's first event that promotes affordable home design using decor and furniture pieces from local enterprises. This is a straightforward bazaar and it hopes to make interior designing less daunting to young Filipino homeowners," says Cami Revilla, Project 1 MNL head collaborator.

Fellow head collaborator Fatima Fule adds, "Urban Living Collective is designed to cater to working millennials who live in apartments and condominiums with limited floor space, a common constraint in urban living. We hope that through this event, homeowners will realize that there are many ways to supersize the style of small spaces. It's possible to jazz up a home with limited square footage and turn it into a cosy and relaxing sanctuary."

The event will also serve as a platform for startup entrepreneurs to showcase their products. The Philippines is a great source for furniture and home decors, thanks to easy access to raw materials as well as the country's skilled craftsmen. Some of the merchants participating in the Urban Living Collective include Gabrienne's Home Decor, The Nifty Decorator, Red Slab Pottery, Amber Lights Laguna, Lumos by Lighthouse Enterprise, Ylaya Studio, The Wheelbarrow Store, Bronco Philippines, Fake Alchemy, and The Fur Factory.

Urban Living Collective is open to the public from 10 am to 9 pm on July 30-31. The event will be held at the park of Capitol Commons, the new mixed-use space developed by Ortigas & Co. which has fostered food, shopping, and other lifestyle activities since it opened in 2013. Freebies will be available to the first 300 shoppers who will purchase at least P300 from any of the booths. The event is supported by Capitol Commons, Sharetea, OMIZU Beautifying Natural Spring Water, The Linden Suites, Real Living, and WhenInManila.com.

LG ushers in new age of laundry with world’s first TWIN WashTM

Revolutionary main washer and mini-washer system tailor-fits washing performance to each garment’s needs

Global technology innovator LG Electronics brings to the Philippine market a breakthrough washing machine that redefines the concept of laundry. The world’s first LG TWIN WashTM enables two separate loads to be washed simultaneously by combining a full-sized front loading washing machine with a mini-washer in a hide-away pedestal, generating a whole new set of washing options.

Gentle washing for all types of laundry

The safety of one’s clothes is one of the most important factors to consider in purchasing a washing machine. LG TWIN WashTM is designed to be able to give special treatment to different types of laundry with its two-in-one system. The powerful main washer handles the larger garments, while the mini-washer is perfect for specialized items that require a unique wash setting like lingerie or baby clothes.

The mini-washer is big enough to hold a full load of delicates yet small enough to use just the right amount of water and electricity, which is normally an issue with bigger washers. This feature offers wash modes specifically for delicate items, guaranteed to clean these types of clothes as gently and thoroughly as hand washing.

Due to the dual washing system, washing time is significantly cut down as multiple loads of laundry can now be handled simultaneously. Smaller loads can be washed when needed without having to wait until a full wash load has accumulated, saving users time and adding a new dimension of convenience.

Premium ergonomic design

LG TWIN Wash™ is designed to fit in the space of a typical front loading washing machine so nothing is sacrificed for the added convenience. The door of the main washer is aligned with the drum’s center, positioned higher than on conventional models and tilted at an angle to make loading and unloading the main drum easier. The mini-washer and pedestal housing can be purchased separately to give current owners of LG front loading washing machines all the benefits of the TWIN WashTM at a fraction of the cost. LG TWIN Wash™, available in modern stainless, received the Red Dot Design Award and the IDEA (International Design Excellence Award) in 2015.

Advanced technology for clothes

TWIN Wash™ also features LG’s unique TurboWash™ 2.0 technology. Nozzles positioned inside the drum of the main washer spray a concentrated solution of detergent directly onto the clothes, improving the unit’s cleaning performance. Another high pressure nozzle sprays tiny water particles through the clothes during high spin cycles for more effective rinsing. The revolutionary Inverter Direct Drive motor at the heart of the TWIN Wash™ is attached directly to the drum, improving efficiency and reducing the number of moving parts, leading to enhanced durability.

“LG TWIN Wash™ is designed to not only make laundry duties quicker and more convenient at home, but also ensure that each and every garment is given the special care it deserves,” LG Philippines Home Appliance VP Youngmin Chae said. “Moms, household helpers or independent young adults now have more time to attend to other chores with the ease of knowing that their laundry will come out spotless from gentle and thorough washing. The simple yet innovative concept of the TWIN WashTM has propelled LG to the front of the pack in the washing machine segment, and is another leap forward in our commitment to make life better for our Filipino consumers.”

Eid’l Fitr or the Feast of Ramadan

In observance of Eid’l Fitr or the Feast of Ramadan, Malacanang on Monday declared July 6, Wednesday,  a nonworking holiday.

Eid’l Fitr, which is celebrated for three days, marks the end of the holy month of fasting for Muslims.

Republic Act No. 9177, signed into law in November 2002 during the Arroyo presidency, declares the first day of Shawwal, the 10th month of the Islamic calendar, a national holiday for the observance of Eidul Fitr.

However, this day is dependent on the Islamic calendar.

Ramadan takes place between June 06 and July 06, 2016. Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, which is spent by Muslims fasting from dawn to sunset, and with extra prayers. While fasting Muslims refrain from consuming food, drinking liquids, smoking, and engaging in sexual relations. As the Islamic calendar is a lunar calendar, Ramadan begins when the first crescent of a new moon is sighted. The religious feast is celebrated during the entire month. Also known as “Eid-al-Fitr”, “Wakas ng Ramadan” and “Pagtatapos ng Pag-aayuno”, it is a national public holiday for all in the Philippines.

Originated by the Islamic Prophet Muhammad, Eidul Fitr is a cause for celebration and thanks giving to Allah. Eidul Fitr has been proclaimed a national holiday in the Philippines since 2002, and was the first predominantly Christian country to do so. This proclamation was made to foster peace and goodwill between major religions in the Philippines.

According to RA 9177, "the approximate date of these Islamic holidays may be determined in accordance with the Islamic calendar (Hijra) or the lunar calendar, or upon Islamic astronomical calculations, whichever is possible or convenient."
