DITO Extends Support to Typhoon Kristine Victims

In response to the recent wraths caused by typhoon Kristine, DITO Telecommunity provided technological and funding support to communities heavily affected by the recent calamity.

Through DITO's platform Galing DITO CampX, a school caravan program aimed at empowering students with the company's digital products and services. DITO, in partnership with Batangas State University (BSU), recently held a school concert featuring Galing DITO ambassadors and Pinoy pop boy group Alamat. Ticket sales amounting to Php 250,000 were donated to "PB is UNITED, PB is ONE for Batangas," BSU's fundraising campaign, to support immediate relief efforts such as essential supplies, temporary shelters, food packs, and other rebuilding efforts.

Part of the proceeds also went to the construction of a Multi-Faith Chapel, supporting BSU's initiative towards creating a space for unity and reflection around the school campus.

"At DITO, we believe in the strength of community and the power of coming together in times of adversity," said Evelyn Jimenez, DITO Chief Revenue Officer for Consumer Business. "Our hearts go out to those affected by typhoon Kristine, and through this event and our other efforts, we aim to bring relief and hope to those in need. This is also our way of standing in solidarity with the Filipino people, showing that we're here to extend a helping hand when challenges arise," Jimenez added.

"The typhoon left devastated hearts, but on the other hand, we're glad to see the ‘Bayanihan’ spirit and strong community resilience, especially in the eyes of the students. We're also thankful for DITO's support; it increased the morale of our students, and the funds provided essential support to the victims of the typhoon," said Ran Drick Kenneth Umali, SSC President of BSU.

BSU students were all smiles during the school caravan.

The Galing DITO CampX also recently went to Ateneo De Davao University, giving students access to non-stop entertainment and an opportunity to learn more about DITO's mobile and home products that suit their needs.

Enhanced technological support in Naga City

Meanwhile, in Naga City, DITO also provided technological support to aid the relief operations of typhoon Kristine's aftermath.

DITO supported the local government by providing mobile phones with SIM cards and load, which call line operators used. DITO also deployed several booths with free calls, WiFi access, and charging stations in Barangay Dayangdang, Lerma, and Triangulo.

Moreover, the local team also conducted immediate speed and network assessment, ensuring smooth and augmented network signals around the city.

"In times of crisis, connectivity is essential for emergency response and families to stay connected with their loved ones. We extended technological support in Naga City, ensuring reliable communication and internet access. We hope that these humble contributions aided relief efforts and facilitated efficient communication around the city," Jimenez said.

DITO Launches New DITO Home WOWFi– The World's First 5G RedCap Wi-Fi for Home

DITO Telecommunity, the fastest growing telco provider in the country, introduces DITO Home WOWFi– the first 5G RedCap technology Wi-Fi in the world for home usage, powered by DITO's Standalone, "true 5G" network.
-------------------------------------------
Enjoy an amazing home internet experience with DITO Home WOWFi
-------------------------------------------

In partnership with Huawei Technologies, one of the global leaders in 5G deployment, DITO brings its newest product to the market, unlocking the full potential of 5G, bringing fast internet speeds of up to 100 megabits per second (Mbps) to allow more Filipinos to enjoy the true 5G experience at an affordable cost.

Evelyn Jimenez, DITO Chief Revenue Officer for Consumer Business, claims that DITO's newest home WOWFi, is changing the norm and disrupting the market, enriching the lives of Filipino households with better internet options that suit their needs.

"In reality, the current internet options of Filipino households are quite limiting. You can get fast and unlimited Wi-Fi, but it won't be cheap; you can get fast and affordable but not unlimited, and you can get affordable and unlimited, but it won't be fast– this is the reality we live in. As the third telco committed to enhancing the lives of the Filipino people, we want to change the norm and disrupt the market by giving Filipinos the home internet they deserve– fast, unlimited, and affordable." Jimenez said.

"With DITO Home WOWFi, we want to jolt Filipinos out of their old ways of dealing with their internet at home; our goal is to give them a life-changing home Wi-Fi that lets them live big and never lets them down, especially in this age of digitalization and technological advancements," Jimenez added.

5G RedCap Technology: The Future of IoT Application

5G RedCap is a new 5G standard and critical evolution of 5G originally called NR-Light, an important part of lightweight 5G. This kind of technology only operates on 5G Standalone (SA) networks, the "true 5G," offering high capacity, maximum quality, and lower latency compared to 5G Non-Standalone (NSA) networks that rely on existing 4G infrastructures.

"5G RedCap is a new addition to the 5G family, offering the right balance of 5G capabilities. It is the kind of technology that provides all the benefits of 5G, such as low latency, high peak data rate, maximum capacity, without the need for high bandwidth," said Huawei Technologies.

Globally, 5G RedCap is only being utilized for industrial use, but this time, here in the Philippines, DITO is bringing this technology straight to Filipino homes, allowing them to enjoy the full potential of 5G.

DITO is the sole telco operator in the country with a true 5G or 5G SA network to date; hence, it can deliver this emerging technology. DITO's newest Home WOWFi is also the first in the world for home, driving the future for Internet of Things (IoT) or smart home applications and supporting the growth of the digital economy.

Enjoy greater convenience, just plug and play!

One of the standout features of the DITO Home WOWFi is the ease of installation. Filipino households can enjoy its wireless broadband advantage, which is a big step up from wired connections, offering greater reliability and convenience versus fiber– there is no need for messy wires, just plug-and-play! Whether gearing up for remote work, online learning, or simply staying connected with family and friends, this device gets you online in no time.

This home Wi-Fi is also suitable for underserved areas where wired connections are no longer feasible, bridging the digital divide and providing a quality home internet experience to remote areas.

Aside from going wireless, DITO Home WOWFi is also a prepaid service– no documents required, no monthly fees, and no lock-in period or long-term contracts. The Starter Kit is the most value-packed price in the market at Php 1,990 with complimentary unlimited 5G data and 50GB 4G data for 30 days. The succeeding monthly load option is only at Php 790 for 30 days with UNLI 5G and bonus 50GB 4G data, which only applies to 4G covered areas.
Interested subscribers can conveniently purchase DITO Home WOWFi at DITO e-Shop, DITO Experience Stores, Device Retail Partners, Sales Blitzes, and DITO official stores in Shopee, Lazada, and TikTok

Are You Getting the “True 5G” Experience? Everything we need to know about 5G and wireless broadband

The bandwagon rollout of fifth generation (5G) wireless technology has paved the way for a new era of connectivity in the digital landscape. While the earlier generations like 2G up to 4G have advanced network connectivity and ushered in groundbreaking HD streaming and video conferencing capabilities, the advent of 5G, by far, a monumental leap forward.

Compared to its 4G predecessor, 5G is indeed 20 times faster and 100x better in capacity and reliability. 5G allows for faster speeds of up to 20 gigabits per second (Gbps), reduces latency, and provides better network reliability and capacity. 5G has radically changed the game from speed to reliability and has become the new golden standard in the telecom industry across the globe.

In the 5G spectrum, there are two types of networking systems which operators can run with- a basic 5G Non-Standalone Network (NSA), and then there’s the more advanced 5G Standalone Network (SA). 5G NSA can be found in the early deployments of 5G, wherein operators used their existing 4G and LTE towers as springboards for 5G technology. 5G NSA is deemed as the most basic and more affordable way to roll out 5G; however, this NSA architecture doesn’t truly capture the full promise and potential of the 5G spectrum.

On the other hand, 5G standalone (SA) systems are dedicated infrastructures or towers built specifically for 5G, unlocking the full potential and capabilities that 5G can offer, such as high speed, lower latency, increased capacity, and maximum reliability. Essentially, 5G SA is the “true 5G” experience.

In the Philippines, DITO Telecommunity, the fastest-growing telco provider in the country, prides itself on being the only telecom operator at this time to have the more advanced 5G SA technology bringing to our shores the real power of “true 5G.”

During the recently concluded 5G Core Summit in the United Arab Emirates, DITO also received the "Best Network 5G SA Core Network Construction Award" by Informa, recognizing the young telco’s outstanding contribution to 5G Core construction ideas and execution.

DITO now has over 7,000 cell sites covering over 830 cities and network coverage at 84 percent.

“Our strength lies in our standalone 5G technology that brings forth greater capacity, wider coverage, and internet connection speeds that are 20 times faster than 4G. This allows us to deliver minimum average broadband speeds (MABS) of 639 Mbps for 5G for all sites,” said Retired Major General Rodolfo Santiago, DITO Chief Technology Officer.

“I believe we are on track in targeting around 87 percent network coverage before the year ends, strengthening our current coverage, providing more reliability, and capacity,” Santiago added.

DITO Home’s wireless broadband: The standard of true 5G

As mentioned, not all 5Gs are created equal. Powered by true 5G, DITO Home launched into the market with wireless broadband offerings for prepaid and postpaid, boasting speeds of up to 500 megabits per second (Mbps). In today’s fast-paced world, DITO’s wireless broadband advantage is a big step up from wired connections, offering faster speeds and greater reliability versus Fiber, which is prone to rampant fiber cuts and prolonged downtimes.

Globally, the demand for wireless broadband is also on the rise due to its high speed, flexibility, and mobility. Data from Credence Research, a worldwide market research and counseling firm, showed that the 5G wireless broadband market is projected to grow from USD 30,128.47 million in 2023 to USD 224,474.59 million by 2032, reflecting a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 25%. The Asia-Pacific region is expected to have the fastest growth rate due to the increasing technological adoption of 5G technology.

This positive trend in 5G wireless broadband’s growth rate can be associated with the increasing demand for faster, more convenient, and more reliable broadband internet systems, especially in underserved rural areas,

5G wireless broadband provides fiber-like speeds or even faster in some instances, without messy wires and heavy installation – cut the cord, again, just plug and play! Such connections make a better choice for densely populated urban areas where wired connections are no longer feasible, and going wireless presents itself as the most practical and hassle-free connectivity solution, given its plug-and-play advantage.

5G wireless modems are also very resilient, especially in disasters and physical calamities, eliminating the fear of disconnection due to damaged wires or cables and fiber cuts that take hours and even days to fix.

With DITO Home, Filipino households can now enjoy affordable, high-speed true 5G connectivity with greater convenience, allowing faster uploads and downloads, more gaming, streaming, and browsing- without interruptions- paving the way for a more connected and empowered future for the Filipino people.

DITO backs new administration's push for universal connectivity

O
ne of the country’s three major telecom players, DITO Telecommunity expressed its full support for President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.'s marching order to boost connectivity across the Philippines.

"We promise to deliver to the new administration's goal of ensuring every Filipino thrives as the digital world grows, especially highlighted during the pandemic," DITO Chief Administrative Officer Adel Tamano said.

"We have been aggressively building our network to meet our commitments, earmarking massive investments to address Filipino consumers' rising demand for reliable and high-speed internet connectivity," he added.

In his first State of the Nation Address on Monday, President Marcos emphasized the need to push for universal connectivity as he warned the digital divide might be "more pronounced" amid the acceleration of digitalization.

"Universal connectivity will be a vital component in order to ensure that no citizen is left behind," he said.

President Marcos said he mandated Department of Information and Communications Technology Secretary Ivan Uy to develop the connectivity in remote areas and islands through the implementation of the National Broadband Plan, the common tower program, and the 'Broadband ng Masa' project.

"All relevant modes of digital transport should be utilized. These may be through a combination of terrestrial or submarine fiber optics, wireless and even satellite technology," President Marcos said.

For its part, DITO has been actively participating in the government's tower-sharing market to help bolster its reach nationwide.

After over a year of commercial operations, the third telco player has established more than 5,500 towers, connecting more than 600 cities and municipalities with quality telco services.

The first phase of its submarine cable system, which links the three major Philippine islands, has been up and running since March 2021. As of June 2022, the group has already laid out over 30,000 kilometers of fiber cable link.

DITO Chief Technology Officer Rodolfo Santiago also bared the group's plan of tapping satellite technology to reach underserved and unserved areas.

"With the expansion of our digital infrastructure, DITO is ready to help the Philippines emerge stronger from the pandemic," Santiago said.

DITO hits 9M subscriber mark, opens new cities

D
ITO Telecommunity Corporation
, the country’s newest mobile network operator (MNO) hit another milestone during the country’s 124th Independence Day Celebration by attracting more than 9M subscribers. It may be recalled that DITO first hit its one-millionth subscriber towards the end of June last year, a mere three months after its commercial launch on March 8 of 2021.

Atty. Adel Tamano, DITO Chief Administrative Officer said, “Hitting milestone after milestone, DITO is once again preparing for the yearly government audit and is confident of hitting 70% of the country’s population shortly before July 2022, allowing it to finally go head-to-head against the country’s two legacy MNOs in terms of presence.”

He further added that since 2019, DITO has been busy ramping up its network roll-out despite the difficulties of the global pandemic and has made its presence felt in more than 540 cities and municipalities, more than 110,000 sales touch points, built 20 DITO experience stores, erected close to 5,000 cellular towers, constructed more than 100 data centers, and laid out more than 30,000 kilometers of fiber cable to link the archipelago.

“We in DITO are serious about our commitments to weave Filipino communities using the DITO brand of connectivity and will move further forward to deliver,” Tamano stressed.

Later this month, DITO will light up barangays in the following cities as part of its commercial expansion:

3. Pasuquin, Ilocos Sur

4. City of Batac, Ilocos Sur

Earlier this month, DITO welcomed subscribers from Paombong Bulacan, Ramon and Reina Mercedes in Isabela, Puerto Princesa Palawan, Pagsanjan and Pila Laguna, San Jose Occidental Mindoro, and Naguilian Isabela.

In addition, from April and May of this year, DITO has made its presence felt from Ilocos, Cagayan, Benguet, Kalinga, Isabela, Pangasinan, Bulacan, Pampanga, Bataan and Zambales to Rizal, bringing up the total area coverage of DITO to more than 540 cities and municipalities nationwide.

To add excitement to the growing achievements of the third major telco player, DITO also held activities to coincide with the commercial launch of Boracay in Visayas where locals were given a chance to be instant DITO retail merchants through a CSR program, and in General Santos City in Mindanao in an event held in partnership with SM.

“Day-by-day, milestone after milestone, DITO has proven to be a resilient and a positively disruptive force in the Philippine telco industry, improving internet speeds and providing growing competition against the two other telcos with the Filipino people emerging as the ultimate victors,” Tamano ended.
