Expert coiffeur and beauty guru Tony Galvez spearheaded the tech-voc advocacy

Tony Galvez expert coiffeur and beauty guru, spearheaded the tech-voc advocacy that aims to professionalize the industry by lobbying Technical-Vocational graduates to be transformed into licensed professionals.
Tony Galvez
Tony Galvez expert coiffeur and beauty guru started off his career in the 1970s. He has been in the advancement of technology in a lot of industries, including cosmetics, world-class hair treatments, hair straightening, hair-relaxing, hair rebonding and many more. Tony has mastered the art of hairstyling and still makes waves in his chosen profession to this day.

As seeing it as profession and as opportunity for lifetime entrepreneurship. He establish his own school, The Tony Galvez School of Cosmetology (TGSC), the only cosmetology school in the Philippines that offers cosmetology courses with a curriculum based on international standards and global training structure, that are intensive and rigorous, to hone students to be globally competitive.
The Tony Galvez School of Cosmetology was established in 1989 to provide a quality standard of cosmetology education in the Philippines. Initially, it provided scholarships to underprivileged but deserving and talented students who were serious about becoming true professionals in the field.

The curriculum also includes a ladderized training program by which a system of courses will equip you with the knowledge and skills to help you land a job. Equally important it helps you advance in whatever area of cosmetology you choose to specialize.

TGSC is the ONLY cosmetology school in the Philippines that offers Cosmetology courses with a curriculum based on international standards and global training structure. It trains students intensively and rigorously, thereby producing globally competitive graduates. Here at TGSC, our cosmetology courses comply with International Licensing Requirements.

“We are also the only beauty school in the country to be recognized and accredited by the National-Interstate Council of State Boards of Cosmetology in the United States. Our hairdressing and cosmetology courses comply with the international licensing requirements,” Galvez said.

With TGSC’s tie-up with the International Cosmetologist Licensing Organization and the National-Interstate Council of State Boards of Cosmetology, its graduates are acknowledged in 37 US states and countries such as the United Kingdom, New Zealand, South Africa, Shanghai, Hong Kong, South Korea, Guam, Canada and Australia.

To say that Galvez is now used to receiving possible local and international citations and accolades for his professionalism is an understatement. But a recent milestone in his colorful career makes him happier and more inspired in his endeavor: He and his nephew Jake Galvez, creative director of TGSC, made it to the 2013 edition of the premier international textbook for cosmetology education.

As president and director of TGSC, Galvez is noted for his pioneering efforts in the beauty industry, for conceptualizing and organizing the international standards of cosmetology in the country.

To keep up with the latest hairstyling and hair treatment trends in the global market, Galvez travels abroad. Whatever valuable innovation he learns from there, he introduces here in the Philippines.

Tony Galvez spearheaded the tech-voc advocacy that aims to professionalize the industry by lobbying Technical-Vocational graduates to be transformed into licensed professionals. His group seeks to influence politicians or public officials on this issue and push forward further discussion so the public may be aware of its importance in uplifting the image of tech-voc education to a higher level through professionalization and licensing.

Philippine Education system has already adopt K12 Curriculum, that with G12 (H.S.), High School students graduated they can seek job easily with the Technical Livelihood Education (TLE) program which is the counterpart of TESDA’s National Certificate II (NC II). Which are deemed not acceptable with the global/International standards. If TESDA is to follow global competitiveness, the branch needs to offer the whole course from National Certificate I (Employment) to National Certificate IV (Service and Entrepreneurship).

TESDA offers NC I (Basic Level) up to NC II (Prerequisite Level) and then issue a certificate to tech-voc graduates. Note that NC III (Advanced Level), NV IV (Mastership, Board Exam) and Diploma are not offered by the government. Still the government even offers FREE training but TESDA and the government do not comply with the objective of the country to become globally competitive.

Tony Galvez and his group’s advocacy will surely benefited the future generation. Tech-voc industry will be replaced by professional qualified hair stylist or nail care expert. They will earn the badge, become entrepreneurs, pay the right taxes and provide employment.

"Tevsaphil-QC aims to raise the level of tech-voc education and the competitiveness of its graduates to be on a par with global and international standards. To do this, the group vows to lobby in the 16th Congress for the passage of a bill, which will be entitled “An Act Regulating the Practice of Technical Vocational Professions in the Philippines, Creating for the Purpose a Regulatory Board for Technical Vocational Professions.” The bill will push for the licensing of courses such as cosmetology, emergency medical services, plumbing, carpentry and housekeeping."

“Our government can look into the idea of licensing vocational graduates. To license the application of vocational courses will convert vocational graduates to professions of dignity and public recognition,” said Tony Galvez, president of Tevsaphil-QC and the Tony Galvez Group of Companies.
