LG Takes Home Cooking to the Next Level with Air Sous Vide Oven

With the likelihood of spending more time at home in the near future, LG changes the game yet again as the South Korean company is set to introduce its new line of Instaview Range ovens that come equipped with Air Sous Vide technology. Set to be introduced early this year at CES, the complete cooking solution also features LG’s Air Fry mode, InstaView oven door and a range of smart functions for a healthy and convenient culinary life at home.

With the company’s innovative Air Sous Vide mode, the stylish range cooks food perfectly every time for meals that look and taste like they’ve been prepared by a professional every time. With precise low temperature and airflow control, vacuum sealed foods are able to lock in maximum flavor and aroma to elevate dishes to succulent new heights. LG Air Sous Vide can consistently maintain any temperature between 100 to 205 degrees Fahrenheit (38 to 96 degrees Celsius) for up to 48 hours without water, which results in more consistent dishes that take up less counter space to prepare.

With LG InstaView technology, tapping twice on the oven’s glass door automatically turns on an interior light to make visually checking the progress inside a cinch. And thanks to EasyClean, users can maintain the cleanliness of the oven and the cooktop with no effort and no chemicals in just 10 minutes using only the power of pure water. The range also features LG’s ProBake Convection technology for quick and thorough cooking without preheating while Air Fry delivers flavorful fried treats using significantly less oil than deep frying.

Lark Awards Business Mentorship Program to Pal Maritime Corporation CEO Mark Joseph David

Lark recently announced Mark Joseph David, CEO of Pal Maritime Corporation, as one of the business mentees under its New Normal Business Council and Mentorship Program.


The ship-crewing CEO was one of two mentees selected for Lark's New Normal Business Council and Mentorship Program out of 761 business leaders who participated in the Lark Your Way to Success webinar series.


The ship-crewing company provides seafarers as manpower for vessels belonging to their various partners located in the Isle of Man, Germany, and Bangladesh. Mark is a second-generation partner in the company, which his family acquired in early 2000s. He joined the team in 2007, and at first, his father sent him to work aboard one of the ships so that he could fully understand the business, and be able to relate to the people that they work with. After working his way up, he became President in January 2020.

Ship-crewing is a huge industry in the Philippines, and one that relies heavily on relationship-building and loyalty. The entire industry was hit hard by the Covid-19 pandemic because most of their operations require manual processes, face-to-face interaction, and local and foreign travel. In the case of Pal Maritime Corporation, their movements became limited. The crew could no longer come to the office to sign their contracts, and activities like family day were suspended. Partners from abroad could not come to Manila, and Mark's team was unable to fly out to Europe to meet with them either.

A lot of businesses were lost within the industry in the early months of the pandemic, and Mark says that it seemed hopeless back then. But he believes that it is always possible to find a way to overcome obstacles, when you truly want to. Over time, with the help of the government, the industry has been able to slowly adjust to the new normal. Many processes are now being done online, and Pal Maritime Corporation has started to adapt.


Mark feels that Lark would be a great tool for community-building, enabling his company to forge stronger relationships between their local team, seafarers, and partners abroad. He was quick to see how their team can communicate, hold meetings, and even host seminars on Lark. They could continue doing the same things they did pre-pandemic, but this time in a digital setting.


Mark shares this advice to fellow business leaders who are navigating into the new normal - In order to succeed, your heart needs to be in your business, and your business needs to be in your heart. When faced with struggles, it's easier to fight for something that you love. "I always believe that if you love your business, if you take care of your business, the money will come after," he says. According to Mark, if you enjoy the business you have chosen, you really can't go wrong.

The New Normal Business Council and Mentorship Program was established by Lark with the intention of providing help and support to Filipino businesses as they transition into a more digital way of working. Three webinar sessions were held as part of this program, and each one featured business and entrepreneurship experts who shared their professional advice and insights on how companies can adapt, evolve, and innovate in order to survive and thrive amidst changes and crises.

After the webinar series was completed, Lark selected two business leaders from among the registered attendees to receive mentorships under its New Normal Business Council and Mentorship Program. NRC, City of Manila, BPI Foundation, ICTSI Foundation join hands for the Adopt-A-City campaign

The National Resilient Council (NRC) signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the City Government of Manila, BPI Foundation, and the ICTSI Foundation as part of NRCs Adopt-A-City campaign last December 18, via Zoom.

Through this multi-stakeholder partnership, the Adopt-A-City program aims to strengthen the leadership and governance capacities of its partner cities to achieve human, economic, infrastructure, and environmental resilience through a more robust private sector participation.  Program MOA signatories Amb. Launched in 2019, the Adopt-A-City Program is a city-specific partnership model responding to the Philippinescommitments under the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, the advancement of the Sustainable Development Goals, the agreements on Climate and the New Urban Agenda. NRC matches partnersresources to the strategic needs of the LGU undergoing the Resilient LGU Program, NRCs 3-year program integrating Science and Technology and Leadership and Governance.

Present during the MOA signing were NRC Convenor Ambassador Roberto Romulo, Chairman, Carlos P. Romulo Foundation; NRC Co-Chair for the Private Sector Mr. Hans Sy, Chairman of the Executive Committee, SM Prime; NRC Co-Chair for Government Sec. Delfin Lorenzana, Secretary, Department of National Defence; NRC President Ma. Antonia Yulo Loyzaga; Mayor Francisco Isko Moreno” Domagoso, City of Manila; Mr. Cezar Consing, Vice Chairman and President, BPI Foundation; Ms. Filipina Laurena, Deputy Executive Director, ICTSI Foundation; and the members of the NRC board.

By signing the agreement, the private sector can directly invest in Manilas disaster risk reduction and long-term resilience efforts. The multi-stakeholder partnership also strengthens private sector collaboration with local governments, academic partners, and communities in co-creating science and technology-based solutions and capacity building for evidence-informed risk governance.

SM Prime Chairman of the Executive Committee and NRC Co-Chair, Mr. Hans Sy thanked the BPI Foundation and the ICTSI Foundation for joining NRC in this endeavor and vowed to engage and collaborate with them on the ARISE PhilippinesDRR objectives to complement the NRC LGU program.

2020 has been a challenging year for all of us. In truth, this year may go down in Philippine history as infamous for its unique combination of natural and biological hazards. These natural and biological hazards have greatly affected the country. The level of risk we all faced underscored the urgent need for encompassing disaster resilience. I am most proud of the Adopt-A-City program that started with four members — CDO, Iloilo, Naga, and Iriga — through which our vision and mission continue to inspire progress. While the government has a primary role in protecting all of us and developing national and local strategies for disaster risk reduction, our offer for this distinctive program, I am sure will be greatly appreciated,” Mr. Sy noted.

From the private sectors end, Mr. Cezar Consing of the BPI Foundation said that they are very pleased to partner with the National Resilience Council and the Carlos P. Romulo Foundation for Peace and Development to help transform the City of Manila into a resilient and sustainable city through the Adopt-A-City program. The opportunity to help transform the city of Manila in an intensive, holistic three-year program for the benefit of Manilenos and all Filipinos is one we value very much.”

Meanwhile, Ms. Filipina Laurena, Deputy Executive Director of the ICTSI Foundation, noted the relevance and timeliness of the Adopt-A-City initiative of NRC as the country faced a series of calamities, both natural and man-made. We commit our cooperation participation in the Adopt-A-City initiative of NRC. This program will help enable the local communities to prevent prepare for and quickly recover from the effects of disasters coming in the city. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to be part of this partnership and be part of the collective effort to contribute to addressing the Disaster Reduction and Resiliency in the city of Manila,” she added.

For Manila Mayor Isko Moreno, the MOA signing is a momentous event for the City of Manila. Timing na timing ito sapagkat mas matutunan naming nasa pamahalaan, mas maga-guide kami, at mas paktuwal kaming aakto dahil sa partisipasyon ng private sector. While it is true that there is still a challenge ahead of us, we will continue to be efficient. So rest assured na hindi mapapariwara ang inyong mga itutulong sa lungsod-- panahon, kagalingan--  all resources, we will make sure to utilize it efficiently and we will cooperate. Its a long process but what matters most is that every day we achieve something and we maintain what we have achieved to be consistent with our effort,” he furthered.

The National Resilience Council (NRC) is a science and technology-based public-private partnership organized in 2017. It is the result of the convergence between the efforts of Ambassador Roberto Romulo of the Carlos P. Romulo Foundation and the advocacy of Mr. Hans Sy of SM Prime, who is a member of the global board of ARISE, the private sector initiative of the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR). It was established with initial support from the San Miguel Corporation Foundation, the Zuellig Family Foundation, the Manila Observatory, in cooperation with Price Waterhouse Coopers Philippines and the NDRRMC-OCD.
