Hidilyn Diaz makes history for the Philippines with 𝐟𝐒𝐫𝐬𝐭 π†πŽπ‹πƒ πŒπ„πƒπ€π‹ 𝐒𝐧 𝐭𝐑𝐞 𝐎π₯𝐲𝐦𝐩𝐒𝐜 π†πšπ¦πžπ¬



Hidilyn Diaz gives the Philippines its 𝐟𝐒𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 π†πŽπ‹πƒ πŒπ„πƒπ€π‹ 𝐒𝐧 𝐭𝐑𝐞 𝐎π₯𝐲𝐦𝐩𝐒𝐜 π†πšπ¦πžπ¬ with a win in the Women’s 55kg in Tokyo 2020.

The 30-year-old Zamboanga City native, Diaz overcomes struggles to make history for PH with gold medal.

The first Olympic gold medalist from the Philippines after winning the women’s 55-kilogram weightlifting category,

Diaz burst into tears as she recorded her gold-medal-winning effort with an overall lift of 224 kilograms. The total set an Olympic record, one kilogram ahead China's Liao Qiuyun, who owns the world record of 227kg set during the 2019 World Championships.



This was the first gold medal won by a Filipino competitor at any Olympics. Diaz set a new Olympic record of 224 kg.
