Unshaken by adversity: BingoPlus Foundation’s ₱6M earthquake relief efforts uplift Cebuano communities

Cebu, Philippines – The memory of the magnitude 6.9 earthquake that struck Northern Cebu on September 30 still haunts the region, but for BingoPlus Foundation, it was a call to action defined by dedication and grit.

BingoPlus Cebu employee volunteers distributed water, food, medicine and other essentials enough for 56,000 Filipinos across earthquake-affected communities in Bogo, San Remigio, Medellin, Daanbantayan, Borbon, and Tabogon. The ₱6-million relief effort, led by the BingoPlus Foundation, was carried out in coordination with local government units and mobilization partners.

Armed with a commitment to multiply the good and spread hope, the BingoPlus Foundation immediately mobilized the relief operations to deliver the Php6 million support from DigiPlus Interactive and BingoPlus to thousands of Cebuanos affected by the earthquake.

Little did the team know that their dedication and perseverance would be tested as the mission, implemented under the Foundation’s BayanihanPlus program, became one of its most arduous operations to date.

Serving Beyond the Quake

While BingoPlus Foundation, social development arm of DigiPlus Interactive Corp., is no stranger to difficult relief operations, the recent leg was the most challenging to date. For the Manila-based Foundation team and the local Cebu BingoPlus employee volunteers, the journey was a test of commitment.

The distribution was fraught with challenges, ranging from aftershocks, heavy rains, impassable roads, and infrastructural damage. This difficult environment peaked on October 13 when volunteers experienced a 5.8 magnitude aftershock, which intensified the already complex relief operations.

Despite the hazards, the team’s resolve was unwavering. Everyone was committed to fulfilling public service—to deliver not just the relief goods but multiply the good and provide hope to thousands of affected Cebuanos.

As Jem Tumbaga, BingoPlus Foundation Communications Officer, shared, “I learned that serving others is not about how easy the journey is, but how willing your heart is to keep going for those who need you the most.”

Tumbaga added, “Despite the bad weather, rough roads, and the scary aftershocks we experienced in Cebu, my commitment to serve others remains unshaken because I know our service will bring hope to our kababayans severely affected by the earthquake.”

BingoPlus Store Manager, Mark Gibson Dingal, surveyed the devastation in Medellin and Bogo, Cebu, after a 6.9 magnitude earthquake and its aftershocks destroyed numerous establishments on September 30, 2025.

Distribution activities proceeded from October 5 to 23 despite aftershocks, heavy rains, impassable roads, and infrastructural damage.

Collaboration to Multiply the Good

In the spirit of multiplying the good through collaboration, the Foundation coordinated with BingoPlus branches, local government units, the Philippine Army 53rd Engineering Brigade, the Philippine Accessible Disability Services (PADS) and supply chain networks, to carry out one of its most complex relief operations, delivering aid barangay to barangay across six municipalities within days. The combined effort in logistics and communications ensured efficient distribution of relief goods to thousands of residents in far-flung areas across Northern Cebu.

“Wala man lisod kaayo ang access diri samot na sa agianan samot na ang kaning sa Tagnucan kay mubalik pa sa mainland (Access here is very difficult, especially the roads, especially for Tagnucan, because the road goes back to the mainland),” said Nino Mangubat, the focal person of PADS in Borbon, shared on a Facebook post.

(Now, this aid given by the BingoPlus Foundation is really a huge help for the persons with disabilities here in Borbon, because we truly see that even though it is very difficult for PWDs right now, we—the chapter presidents—are making every effort to ensure that all the aid given by BingoPlus is delivered house-to-house to the members.)”

The PADS representative said “Thank you kaayo BingoPlus sa inyong hatag na suporta sa moa o sa PADS. Thank you kayo (Thank you very much, BingoPlus, for the support you gave us, or to PADS. Thank you very much)."
“Ang mga ayudang ito ay aming ipinamamahagi house-to-house sa aming mga miyembro dahil mahirap ang access ng daanan dito... kaya umaabot ng 17 kilometro ang biyahe,” shared PADS Focal Person Nino Mangubat to Jem Tumbaga of BingoPlus Foundation, describing the challenges of delivering relief to PWDs. The collaboration helped bridge access to essential goods directly to remote homes, sparing vulnerable sectors the long and difficult travel to distribution sites.

Php6 million Aid of BayanihanPlus

Through the Foundation’s program BayanihanPlus, volunteers successfully delivered thousands of relief packs to an estimated 56,000 residents across six municipalities in Northern Cebu. This extensive distribution, valued at Php6 million, spanned a phased approach from October 5 to October 23.

"Our commitment to the people of Cebu is unwavering," said Angela Camins-Wieneke, BingoPlus Foundation Executive Director. "This Php6 million support from DigiPlus and BingoPlus represents an immediate lifeline for tens of thousands of individuals who lost their homes, livelihoods, and some even their loved ones. We've prioritized swift, targeted action to ensure the relief gets into the hands of those who need it most. Sama-sama sa pagtulong. Sabay-sabay sa pagbangon. (We help together. We recover together.)"

Understanding that earthquake recovery is a long-term process, the BingoPlus Foundation will continue working with partners to assess the changing needs of the affected communities as the complex recovery progresses.

Sama-sama sa tulong. Sabay-sabay sa pagbangon – through its BayanihanPlus program, BingoPlus Foundation’s Php6 million support from DigiPlus and BingoPlus represents an immediate lifeline and a step towards recovery for thousands of individuals who lost their homes, livelihoods and loved ones.

BingoPlus Foundation equips FutureSmart Scholars with leadership, life-skills to become changemakers

BingoPlus Foundation’s scholars convene at the 2nd FutureSmart Leaders General Assembly in Makati City, participating in high-impact workshops on purpose, vision, and leadership.

On July 19, 2025, BingoPlus Foundation, the social development arm of DigiPlus, gathered 80 FutureSmart scholars from across the country for its second general assembly for a day of growth, connection, and inspiration. The event featured professional trainers, national beauty queen ambassadors, and nonprofit leaders who shared actionable insights and leadership tools to help the scholars become future-ready leaders.

Through its P.L.U.S. (Pioneering Leadership and Uplifting Service) Factor Program, the Foundation underscores its commitment to nurturing young talents with more than financial aid. The program equips scholars with essential life skills such as leadership, resilience, and a sense of service, ensuring they are prepared to lead both in their chosen careers and in their communities. Building on the momentum of past sessions, this year’s assembly focused on the two high-impact workshops: Purpose and Vision, which guided scholars in aligning their personal mission with future advocacies, and public speaking, which enhanced their confidence, presence, and ability to influence others.

A clear purpose keeps life on the right track.

The Purpose and Vision Workshop aimed to guide scholars in uncovering what drives them and aligning it with their future careers and advocacies. Through reflection exercises and guided discussions, participants explored how understanding their "Why" can empower them to lead with intention and integrity.

Through a workshop facilitated by Management Strategies, a global consulting and training firm based in the Philippines, scholars were guided to discover and define their personal purpose and vision in life. Using practical tools and reflective exercises, they were able to align their individual aspirations with the values of leadership and service, giving them a clearer roadmap for their future.

“We believe transformation begins when a young person discovers their purpose,” said Jasper Vicencio, President of AB Leisure Exponent and Vice President and Trustee of BingoPlus Foundation. We’re not just offering scholarships. We’re building leaders who can create impact, inspire others, and give back to their communities.” he added.

The workshop was made even more impactful by special guests Chelsea Fernandez, Miss Philippines Cosmo 2025, and Kat Llegado, Miss Philippines Supranational 2026. The two queens shared how they use their pageant platforms to advance meaningful advocacies, shedding light on what it means to lead with purpose.

Purpose guides everything I do—on and off stage,” said Chelsea Fernandez, urging scholars to stay authentic and clear. Kat Llegado added, “When vision is rooted in purpose, pressure becomes fuel.” Connecting purpose to service, Joie Balaong of iVolunteer Philippines shared: “Volunteerism is our core—we envision every Filipino volunteering by making it known, easy, and doable.

Adding to the inspiring session was Joie Ann Balaong, Partnership Director of iVolunteer Philippines, who shared her personal journey of turning passion into purpose through community service. Her story echoed a powerful message on how fulfillment comes from alignment between values and vocation.

‘Walk the talk’: Bringing purpose to the podium

Ms. Issa Litton, an experienced trainer in public speaking, host, and actress, assisted the scholars in cultivating confidence by utilizing their voices as instruments to create impact and excel as communicators in their respective fields.

Before the General Assembly, FutureSmart Scholars joined the PLUS Factor: Public Speaking Workshop, aimed to strengthen the scholars’ communication and presentation skills. The workshop mainly focused on presence and delivery, teaching scholars how to project their voice, maintain a confident posture, and present themselves with clarity and poise. This session involved a practical application where participants delivered presentations and received direct feedback from mentors.

Through this experience, scholars not only improved their public speaking skills but also gained a deeper understanding of how communication ties into their personal and professional growth. They also learned how to use their voice as a tool for leadership and advocacy, and gained skills that will serve them as future innovators and community leaders.

“When scholars know their purpose and can speak it with confidence, they become unstoppable forces for good,” said Vicencio. “This is the heart of what we aim to nurture through FutureSmart. We want to help shape leaders who will influence the future with clarity, compassion, and courage.”

Initiatives like this are part of DigiPlus and BingoPlus Foundation’s broader goal to continue to invest in more than just education but in character-building, leadership development, and values formation for the next and future generation of Filipino leaders. With its FutureSmart Scholarship Program, the foundation remains firm in its commitment to cultivating a generation that leads with purpose and uplifts others in the process.

DigiPlus, BingoPlus Foundation deepen commitment to crisis relief, supports DSWD’s new satellite center

DigiPlus Interactive Corp., through its social development arm BingoPlus Foundation, has once again extended support to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) by helping expand its reach to individuals in urgent need. As the DSWD opened a new Crisis Intervention Unit (CIU) satellite office in Quezon City, BingoPlus Foundation contributed essential furniture and logistical support to enhance the agency’s capacity to deliver fast, inclusive, and compassionate services.

Located at Paragon Place along Commonwealth Avenue, the new satellite CIU office was established to better accommodate beneficiaries of DSWD’s Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations (AICS) and Ayuda para sa Kapos ang Kita Program (AKAP). These programs offer immediate financial relief to Filipinos affected by natural disasters, medical emergencies, displacement, and other life-altering events. The expanded facility allows for greater accessibility and a safer, more comfortable experience for clients.

Ahead of the center’s opening on June 26, 2025, the Foundation donated 1,034 chairs and 204 tables, which now serve as vital equipment for waiting areas, consultation rooms, and administrative functions. The donation was formally received by DSWD Assistant Secretary Paul Ledesma.

“At DigiPlus, we believe that support shouldn’t just be available, but should also feel accessible,” said Angela Camins-Wieneke, Executive Director of BingoPlus Foundation. “We’re glad to contribute to this expansion and help create a space that truly meets Filipinos where they are, especially during their most difficult moments.”

This is not the first time that DigiPlus has partnered with the DSWD. In 2024, BingoPlus Foundation supported the agency’s disaster response efforts through major rice donations and a ₱37-million emergency relief following Typhoon Kristine, one of the strongest storms to hit the country that year. The Foundation has also worked with regional DSWD units to serve vulnerable sectors through feeding programs, medical aid, and digital learning support.

The new CIU donation forms part of the Foundation’s ₱150 million commitment for 2025, which spans four core pillars: Technology Education, Accessible Healthcare, Community Resilience, and Responsible Digitalization. These initiatives are made possible by the continued success of DigiPlus’ leading digital entertainment brands, BingoPlus, ArenaPlus, and GameZone, which help fuel lasting social impact at scale.

“This isn’t just about providing tables and chairs. It’s about making sure people in crisis feel seen, served, and supported,” added Camins-Wieneke. “Every Filipino deserves a system that works for them. Through our work with the DSWD and other agencies, we’re doing our part to build that system.”

For every player, a safer game: DigiPlus, BingoPlus Foundation mark Problem Gambling and Gaming Awareness Month with tools and training

In the fast-growing digital gaming landscape, few players are committed to safety as they are to fun. This Problem Gambling Awareness Month, DigiPlus Interactive Corp., through its social development arm BingoPlus Foundation, reaffirms its industry leadership in responsible gaming, highlighting its pioneering use of in-app safeguards, real-world financial education, and company-wide mental health training to protect and empower Filipino players.

On May 19, 2025, DigiPlus’ CSR arm, BingoPlus Foundation, alongside key public and private organizations, led the call for responsible gaming at the 2nd International Conference on Responsible Gambling and Gaming Addiction held at the Quezon City M.I.C. Center, Philippines. In photos (from left to right): Youth Group Representative Dr. Rica Fatima Arias; Jay Valderama of Rehabilitation and Treatment Center; Dr. Lorolie Vinluan RGC from UP Diliman; Quezon City Healthcare Director Dr. Ramona Abarquez; Municipality of Sta. Rosa, Laguna Representative, Ms. Elvira Marcelo; Solaire Resort Representative, Mr. Hexell Tulod; Ms. Angela Camins-Wieneke, Executive Director of BingoPlus Foundation; Ms. Tersita Castillo, President and Chairman of Seagulls Flock Organization; Quezon City Mayor, Honorable Joy Belmonte, PAGCOR Chairman/CEO, Mr. Alejandro Tengco; and Mr. Atty. Jesi Howard S. Lanete, Assistant Secretary Department of Interior and Local Government.

With over 40 million registered users and more than 130 physical sites, DigiPlus is the country’s largest integrated digital entertainment ecosystem. But behind its scale is a human-first approach to gaming - one rooted in empathy, protection, and shared responsibility.

At the core of this commitment is GameSmart, a responsible gaming program grounded on the three pillars: prevention, education, and intervention.

A three-pillar framework: Prevention, education, and intervention

Through advanced in-app tools: custom time and spending limits, facial recognition, and e-KYC protocols, DigiPlus empowers players to take control of their own habits while shielding minors and at-risk groups from exposure. These aren’t just features, they are built-in guardrails designed to make responsible play second nature.

One of the foundation’s most impactful efforts is the “Pusta de Peligro” campaign, a public advocacy drive that reframes “Petsa de Peligro”, a term familiar to everyday Filipinos, as a moment to pause and reflect on responsible choices.

The Pusta De Peligro campaign launched across social media, TV, radio, billboard ads, speaks directly to cultural and financial realities. By tapping relatable moments before payday, it encourages players to evaluate whether it’s the right time to play or save for another day.

Education happens where it matters most: in the everyday moments of playing and decision-making. The Foundation’s “Tamang Laro, Tamang Panalo” campaign delivers financial coaching to both jackpot winners and targeted sectors in barangays, teaching practical skills like budgeting, debt management, and saving smart. From livestreams to barangay halls, the message is the same; real fun means being in control.

On May 6, 2025, BingoPlus Foundation kicked off the “Tamang Laro, Tamang Panalo” Barangay Caravan at Barangay 686, Paco, Manila, where low income families and target sectors in barangay learned practical tips on budgeting, spending wisely, managing debt, and saving smart-empowering them to make a better financial decisions for a more secure future. This continues the series of learning sessions initiated since 2024, transitioning from a hybrid webinar to a grassroots program.

Intervention is available when players need it most. DigiPlus has begun training frontline staff and customer service teams to spot red flags and offer mental health first aid. In partnership with organizations like Seagulls Flock, the Foundation is building systems that emphasize compassion, not punishment - ensuring no player feels alone when facing risky behavior.

In partnership with Seagulls Flock Organization, BingoPlus Foundation held its first-ever “Basic Training on Problem Gambling for First Responders” on April 21–23, 2025. The three-day session equipped DigiPlus customer service representatives with critical knowledge and tools to recognize red flags, offer empathetic support, and promote responsible gambling among users—reinforcing the company’s commitment to accessible mental health care and responsible gaming at every touchpoint.

Beyond compliance

Beyond its compliance with regulations, DigiPlus believes that understanding the human story behind every player is the key to long-term, sustainable entertainment. Through BingoPlus Foundation, the company brings responsible gaming efforts to where its customers live, work, and play – across stores, digital platforms, and communities.

These efforts are just part of a broader ecosystem of care. BingoPlus Foundation has allocated ₱150 million in 2025 toward social programs under four pillars: Technology Education, Accessible Healthcare, Community Resilience, and Responsible Digitalization. Responsible gaming is not a one-off campaign - it’s embedded across everything DigiPlus does.

“Problem gambling is real - but so is the power of technology, education, and community to prevent it,” said Angela Camins-Wieneke, Executive Director of BingoPlus Foundation. “At DigiPlus, we don’t just check compliance boxes. We’ve built an ecosystem that protects players, empowers families, and multiplies the good across every corner of the country.”

Looking Ahead

DigiPlus and BingoPlus Foundation are expanding their efforts even further. This year, the Foundation will launch new digital learning modules, host community dialogues, and scale partnerships with LGUs, schools, and healthcare professionals to build a wider safety net for players.

Because as we play, we can protect. As we win, we can uplift. And as we grow, we can multiply the good- together.

Hope and Light: DigiPlus, BingoPlus Foundation Delivers Resilience in Action in South Luzon

DigiPlus Interactive, through its social development arm, BingoPlus Foundation, continued efforts in promoting resilience in vulnerable communities by bringing its KabuhayanPLUS program in South Luzon regions. Anchoring on disaster response and sustainable livelihood, the Foundation delivered solar solutions in Mangyan Indigenous People (IP) communities in Mindoro and financial assistance to typhoon victims in Bicol Region as part of post-disaster recovery initiatives.

DigiPlus and BingoPlus Foundation delivers solar solutions in remote communities and recovery assistance to disaster-stricken families, as part of its KabuhayanPLUS resilience program.

Lighting Up IP Communities of Mindoro

Bright lights and bright smiles spread across the Mangyan Indigenous People (IP) community as BingoPlus Foundation trekked the mountains of Manalansay, Oriental Mindoro to provide solar lights and solar generators in response to Samahan ng Magbubukid ng Manaul or SaMa Manaul’s request for assistance to solve their electricity problems.

From the challenge of completing housework and studies in the dark, Mangyan households now benefit from solar powered lights from BingoPlus Foundation.

According to IP residents of Manaul, the lack of electricity has impacted their ability to maximize hours to produce their handicraft and other forms of livelihood. Children must also study despite the dark, reading by the furnace or with only a flashlight. Communications is also dependent on the ability to travel to the town proper to charge mobile phones.

“Even if I want to finish my work, I can’t because I can only work until there is light. As a mother, it really pains me to see my kids not being able to accomplish their requirements in school because it’s too dark to work at night,” said Liza Gayot, who’s been a long-time resident of Manaul. “I’m thankful for BingoPlus Foundation because you are the light of our life and home,” said Gayot. “After 20 years, we finally have lights in our own homes,” she added.

BingoPlus Foundation delivers its promise of supporting the Mangyan IP community’s decades-long challenge with electricity in the mountains of Mindoro.

Bringing Hope to Typhoon Victims in Bicol Region

Meanwhile, BingoPlus Foundation concluded its commitment to provide financial assistance to bereaved families of Super Typhoon Kristine, as part of a Php37 Million pledge initiated since November 2024. From January to February 2025, the Foundation collaborated with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office V in Bicol Region to provide financial aid to 74 affected families from Camarines Sur, Albay, Sorsogon, Catanduanes and Masbate.

DSWD Assistant Secretary Paul Ledesma and DSWD Regional Director Norman Laurio join BingoPlus Foundation Executive Director Angela Camins-Wieneke in a turnover ceremony in Pili, Camarines Sur.

The DSWD also donated family food packs, drinking water, hygiene supplies and first aid kits. The turnover ceremony held in Pili, Camarines Sur was joined by DSWD Assistant Secretary for Regional Operations Paul Ledesma and DSWD Bicol Regional Director Norman Laurio.

Janette Ojeda, a mother who lost her eldest son because of Typhoon Kristine, received her financial aid as she tries to continue living her life despite the tragedy she went through.

“Our hearts go out to all the families affected by Typhoon Kristine,” said Angela Camins-Wieneke, Executive Director of BingoPlus Foundation. “While the typhoon has since passed, the loss of loved ones – many of whom were breadwinners – is an additional burden to bear in the journey to recovery.” According to beneficiaries, the financial assistance of Php250,000 will be used not only for house repairs, but also to sustain the education of orphaned children and daily household needs of families left behind.

DigiPlus, BingoPlus Foundation give ₱37M aid to families of Typhoon Kristine casualties in largest relief effort to date

In response to the devastating impact of Typhoon Kristine, BingoPlus Foundation, the social development arm of DigiPlus Interactive, formally distributed ₱37 million in financial aid to families affected by Typhoon Kristine. In the wake of 148 confirmed casualties nationwide, at least ₱250,000 was committed to each bereaved family, as a symbol of compassion and support for their journey to recovery. The initiative started with 39 bereaved families during a turnover ceremony on November 10, at Talisay New Municipal Grounds in Batangas and will continue in several parts of the country. This pledge will continue to support affected families in coordination with the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

First Lady Lisa Araneta-Marcos, alongside DigiPlus Interactive Chairman Eusebio Tanco and DSWD Undersecretary Pinky Romualdez, personally handover financial aid to families affected by Typhoon Kristine in Batangas. This forms part of the Php37 Million pledged by DigiPlus Interactive in support, especially for the recovery of bereaved families of 148 casualties nationwide.

First Lady Louise “Liza” Araneta-Marcos, Department of Social Welfare and Development Undersecretary Pinky Romualdez and DigiPlus Chairman Eusebio Tanco were joined by Batangas Governor Hermilando Mandanas, Batangas Vice Governor Mark Leviste, Talisay Mayor Nestor Natanauan, Bacolod Mayor Albie, BingoPlus Foundation COO Celeste Jovenir and local leaders and community members to personally hand over the financial aid. The event highlighted the Foundation’s mission to multiply the good by extending meaningful support to Filipinos in their time of greatest need.

Typhoon Kristine, one of the year’s most devastating storms, left a trail of destruction across South Luzon, with severe flooding and landslides resulting in significant loss of life and damage to property. Talisay, particularly impacted by landslides in Batangas, is one of the focus areas of the Foundation’s relief efforts as the entire province was declared in a state of calamity.

DigiPlus extends its largest relief effort to date, underscoring its dedication to resilience and meaningful impact. Through BingoPlus Foundation, the company’s commitment stands as a beacon of resilience and compassion in times of crisis.

“The BingoPlus Foundation exists to provide more than financial aid; it is about creating hope, resilience, and real change,” said DigiPlus Interactive Chairman Eusebio Tanco. “The work of the BingoPlus Foundation is a true reflection of our belief in giving back without holding back, of reaching out to lift up those in need, and of multiplying the good in every way possible.”

The provision of financial assistance builds on BingoPlus Foundation’s prior support initiatives for Typhoon Kristine victims. In collaboration with the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s National Resource Operations Center (DSWD NROC), the Foundation provided cavans of rice, benefiting at least 750 families, and mobilized volunteers to help repack and distribute critical supplies for affected provinces.

With a mission to “multiply the good” in the heart of communities, BingoPlus Foundation joins hands with the DSWD in delivering financial aid and livelihood assistance to families affected by Typhoon Kristine, starting with nearly 40 families bereaved due to a landslide in Talisay, Batangas.

In partnership with the National Resource Operations Center of the DSWD and ABS-CBN Sagip Kapamilya, BingoPlus Foundation provides essential relief to families affected by Typhoon Kristine in Isabela, Aurora, Camarines Norte and other provinces.

Together with ABS-CBN Foundation’s Sagip Kapamilya, BingoPlus Foundation also extended support to 1,000 families impacted by Typhoon Kristine in Isabela, Aurora, Pangasinan and Quezon. These immediate actions underscore the Foundation’s dedication to its resilience pillar, showcasing its commitment to making a difference when communities need it most.

“The BingoPlus Foundation stands by our communities not only with aid but with resilience, unity, and hope,” said Tanco. “In moments like these, our commitment to making a difference is stronger than ever.”

Since its inception, the Foundation has allocated over ₱100 million across projects nationwide, addressing urgent community needs through healthcare, livelihood programs, and educational grants. Through partnerships with local and national organizations, the Foundation has established PLUS Centers in Negros, Cebu, and General Santos, creating resource hubs designed to empower communities by offering critical resources such as health programs, livelihood support, and skills training. Each center is a lasting symbol of the Foundation’s commitment to sustainable community development.

BingoPlus Foundation adds the “Plus” in health and livelihood initiatives in General Santos

In line with its commitment to improving community health and livelihood, BingoPlus Foundation, the social development arm of DigiPlus Interactive, has successfully completed a series of initiatives in General Santos, under its KalusuganPLUS and KabuhayanPLUS programs. These efforts aim to address critical public health challenges while empowering vulnerable communities with sustainable economic opportunities.

KalusuganPLUS: Sanitation facilities benefit 3,000 residents

In a series of turnover ceremonies in September 2024, BingoPlus Foundation handed over five sanitation facilities in the barangays of San Isidro, Ligaya, Tinagacan, Calumpang, and Bawing. These essential facilities are expected to benefit nearly 3,000 residents, addressing a long-standing gap in access to clean water and proper sanitation. Notably, the barangay of Bawing is home to Badjao communities, which have historically faced challenges in accessing clean water and sanitation.

BingoPlus Foundation’s KalusuganPLUS and KabuhayanPLUS programs reach 3,000 residents in General Santos

This effort is in line with the Philippine Approach to Total Sanitation (PhATS), a nationwide initiative that promotes improved hygiene and sanitation practices, contributing to the achievement of local government units' (LGU) Zero Open Defecation (ZOD) campaign. PhATS emphasizes sustainable sanitation practices to prevent waterborne diseases and improve overall public health.

This initiative is particularly critical in the SOCCSKSARGEN region, where only 73.8 % of families have access to basic sanitation facilities, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority Annual Poverty Indicators Survey (March 2023). As lack of hygiene practices persist in some rural areas, this imposes a significant health risk in the region, which has also seen a return in polio cases. The newly built facilities address this gap, and BingoPlus Foundation is playing a pivotal role in safeguarding public health in one of the country’s most underserved areas.

BingoPlus Foundation turns over sanitation facilities to five barangays across General Santos City. (Turnover ceremonies were attended by the representatives of the local government unit of General Santos City, city health officers, members of the communities, and the BingoPlus Foundation team.

Lack of sanitation facilities and proper hygiene practices in underserved communities result in significant health risks, further impacting financial stability due to medical expenses and inability to work.

KabuhayanPLUS: Training Center welcomes graduates

Beyond health, BingoPlus Foundation is also empowering marginalized sectors through its livelihood programs. In partnership with Barangay San Isidro, the Foundation celebrated the graduation of the first batch of trainees from its Dressmaking and Tailoring Training Center, which opened last June. The center is now serving its second batch of trainees, and applications will be open for Batch 3 through the barangay.

Part of the PLUS Centers for Livelihood network, this center collaborates with TESDA to provide NC II Certification in dressmaking, equipping participants—many of whom are solo parents and women—with valuable skills for employment or entrepreneurship. The program provides an alternative source of income and a sustainable livelihood for many in the community, fostering entrepreneurship and economic growth in the region.

Celeste Jovenir, DigiPlus Vice President for Investor Relations and BingoPlus Foundation COO, shares, “BingoPlus Foundation’s mission goes beyond providing aid; we’re here to uplift communities facing the toughest social challenges, from health and sanitation, to livelihood, in General Santos and beyond. Through KalusuganPLUS and KabuhayanPLUS, we’re empowering individuals to rise above their circumstances and build a future full of hope and opportunity."
