Petron offers exclusive perks for Grab drivers

Industry leader Petron Corporation recently signed a partnership with the leading ride-sharing platform Grab, to offer exclusive benefits to Grab drivers and employees through its Grab-branded Petron Value Card.

Forming part of the benefits that Grab drivers enjoy when they sign up with Grab, the PVC cards will be given free to all Grab vehicles, except Grab Taxi. With their Petron Value Card, Grab drivers earn peso-points every time they fill up with Petron fuels—Petron Blaze 100, XCS, Xtra Advance, Turbo Diesel, and Diesel Max. Peso points earned can be redeemed for Petron products at over 2,000 Petron stations nationwide. These can also be converted to cellphone load, air miles, groceries, movies, and other options.

Other ways to earn more points are through the Frequent Visit promo where the PVC cardholder gets additional points on every 5th visit to a Petron station, and the Birthday Promo that awards bonus points when the Grab driver gases up within five days of his birthday.

Petron takes care of its loyal customers, and Grab drivers can enjoy the following benefits —subject to terms and conditions—through their Petron Value Card: free 24/7 towing and roadside assistance, free personal accident insurance coverage of PHP 10,000 for accidental death and PHP 1,000 medical reimbursement, and privileges at partner establishments.

The Petron Value Card mobile app, available for iOS and Android smartphones, provides the transaction history and points summary, as well as access to the various promos, rewards and benefits.

Beyond the perks and privileges they will enjoy as PVC cardholders, Grab drivers have the assurance that Petron fuels and engine oils are of world-class quality, thus offering savings not just through fuel efficiency, but by reducing maintenance costs through better engine protection.

According to Grab Philippines country head Brian Cu, “Our goal has always been to take care of our Peers and drivers, and we want to stretch their income in any way we can. We are positive that this partnership with Petron will give our drivers more flexibility in their expenses.” He points out that the tie-up will not only expand the drivers’ income but also benefit their families.

Grab will handle distribution of the co-branded Grab-Petron Value Card, which can be claimed at the following locations: Libis, Araneta-Cubao, Fisher Mall, Manila, Imus, and Metro East.

#GrabItBeatIt: GrabCar’s awareness campaign for early breast cancer detection

In support of breast cancer awareness month, GrabCar has launched the #GrabItBeatIt campaign across Southeast Asia this October to encourage women to conduct self-examination and stress the importance of early detection.

“We believe that early detection is the best protection against breast cancer as studies show that those detected early have high cure rates. Through this campaign, we want to extend the conversation to how women can stay healthy and fit, and encourage Filipino women to self-check before it’s too late,” said GrabCar Head, Natasha Bautista.

According to a 2012 study, the Philippines has the second highest incidence of breast cancer in Southeast Asia. Department of Health (DOH) recommends women as young as 20 years old to familiarize themselves with their breasts and conduct monthly self-examination as everyone is at risk with the terminal but curable disease.

In line with GrabCar’s advocacy to spread awareness about breast cancer, it now offers Breast Cancer Awareness kits which includes a statement shirt by Malaysian clothing company Pestle and Mortar, a tote bag and pamphlet on how to conduct self-examination.

All proceeds go to the ICanServe Foundation which helps women with breast cancer and also promotes early breast cancer detection through information campaigns and community-based screening programs.

“In our own way, we want to let more people know that early detection of breast cancer saves thousands of lives,” said Natasha Bautista.

The #GrabItBeatIt campaign runs in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam as part of the GrabCar’s advocacy on women’s health and safety.

GrabCar First and Only Transport Network Company legalized by LTFRB

The first and only Transport Network Company legalized by the Philippine government, GrabCar, the private hire vehicle booking service available through the GrabTaxi app.

GrabCar is the first and only service of its kind in the Philippines to be fully accredited as a Transportation Network Company (TNC) by the Land Transportation Franchising & Regulatory Board (LTFRB).

Natasha Bautista, Head of GrabCar Philippines, said this GrabCar accreditation validates the company’s efforts in providing the safest and most convenient rides for passengers in the Philippines.
“With full accreditation, more Filipino commuters will be able to use GrabCar and be confident that we offer a legitimate and safe private hire service. We will now focus on rapidly expanding our GrabCar service to serve more passengers across the Philippines,” said Bautista.
“Our GrabCar accreditation by LTFRB is a historical occasion. We commend the Philippine government for collaborating with our team to revolutionize transport in the Philippines through the development of game-changing regulations that champion innovation and public safety for society,” she added.
First and only legal service

When GrabCar first entered the market, the service operated on par with the current industry standards. In May 2015, the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) announced that it would create a new classification to accommodate mobile app-based booking services. On July 3rd, GrabCar became the first company to complete all the requirements and receive full accreditation as a TNC.

The requirements for TNC accreditation include: business permit, certificate of registration duly issued by the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR), business model proposal with proposed fare rates and service charges, and complaint mechanism against vehicle owners and drivers.

Safety remains top priority

“The stringent safety and training process we’ve implemented since day one has ensured that GrabCar complies with the new TNC regulations seamlessly and can be the first to be fully accredited by LTFRB. We are committed to screening and training our GrabPeer drivers for GrabCar in full compliance with the TNVS accreditation requirements set by LTFRB. In fact, we’re working with our Regional Head of Safety and the LTFRB to consistently ensure that our screening and safety measures are of the highest standard possible,” said Bautista.

“GrabCar has been very collaborative. Since day one of operations, they have been working closely with us to ensure that the policy on TNCs prioritizes passenger safety. We are happy to announce that GrabCar has already been accredited upon meeting all government requirements, and we are positive that this will revolutionize the Philippine transportation industry,” said Roberto Cabrera, LTFRB Executive Director.

GrabCar aims to complement the current transportation options in the country and provide passengers with another safe and affordable ride option. GrabCar believes that with full accreditation by the Philippine government, TNCs will be able to provide a fast, safe and convenient transport option for passengers.

The World Bank-GrabTaxi partnership to improve road safety and traffic congestion across Southeast Asia

The partnership provides local governments with innovative, open-source data technology to transform public transport for 620 million people
GrabTaxi, Southeast Asia’s largest taxi-booking mobile phone app, partners with the World Bank to combat traffic congestion and improve transport safety for over 620 million residents in the region. Traffic congestion and road safety impact both the quality of life and economic opportunities available to taxi drivers and passengers in developing economies.

The World Bank-GrabTaxi partnership provides an award-winning, open-source data platform, OpenTraffic, at no cost to local governments in the Philippines, Indonesia and Vietnam to improve traffic congestion and road safety.

The World Bank-GrabTaxi partnership is being piloted with local governments in following cities in which GrabTaxi operates: Cebu, Manila, Davao City, Jakarta, Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi. Through the partnership, GrabTaxi aims to empower local transportation agencies to monitor real-time traffic conditions and collect historic travel time data. As a result, governments will eventually be able to make better, evidence-based decisions that previously had been out of reach –including decisions about traffic signal timing plans, public transit provisions, roadway infrastructure needs, emergency traffic management, and travel demand management.

GrabTaxi Founder and Group CEO Anthony Tan remarks, “We are honored to partner with the World Bank on this exciting initiative to revolutionize public transport in Southeast Asia. We are a social startup and this partnership will drive GrabTaxi closer towards our social mission to significantly improve the lives of our drivers and passengers- and ultimately change the way 620 million people move in Southeast Asia. Together with the World Bank and local governments, we look forward to improving road safety and traffic congestion in the cities we operate.”

The World Bank Transport & ICT Global Practice heads the Open Transport initiative to build safer, cleaner and more affordable transport systems that reduce congestion, facilitate access to jobs and lower transport energy consumption. Technology and data management is helping to better map travel patterns and users’needs, engaging citizens and improving the quality and efficiency of transport solutions.

GrabTaxi works with the existing taxi ecosystem and governments in the 20 cities it operates in across 6 countries–Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, Singapore Vietnam, and Indonesia –to help taxi drivers enter the new economy by using the latest mobile technologies to make taxi rides safer and more efficient than before. More than 70,000 taxi drivers have registered with GrabTaxi to meet the growing demand of more than 6.3 bookings per second; and the company estimates that one in two active taxi drivers in the region will be on the GrabTaxi network by the end of 2015.

GrabTaxi secures additional funding from Vertex Venture Holdings

Number one mobile taxi booking app by downloads and bookings in Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand, and The Philippines

The future of taxi booking is now, as more markets embrace mobile taxi booking in Southeast Asia.
GrabTaxi, an automated smartphone taxi booking platform, is poised to extend its leadership position and expand into new markets in the region.

Grab Taxi will be able to support an even larger number of taxi drivers and commuters, thanks to additional funding from investors including Vertex Venture Holdings, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Temasek Holdings.

Vertex Venture is the lead investor in additional funding into GrabTaxi, while another group of angel investors from Malaysia are providing financial support to this young start-up. CIMB, a leading ASEAN universal bank, headquartered in Malaysia has been appointed the main financier by GrabTaxi.

The GrabTaxi concept was developed by two ex-Harvard Business School students back in 2011 to solve two main issues in the taxi industry – create safer and reliable rides for passengers and improve drivers’ livelihood.

GrabTaxi Founder and Group CEO Anthony Tan said, “From our humble beginnings, GrabTaxi has become the largest and most widely used taxi booking mobile app in the region. In fact, we have fifteen times more booking volume than our nearest competitors. Our own regional survey showed that we’re at the top of our consumer’s minds. More than 50 percent of them aren’t aware of any other service available except for GrabTaxi.”

“The additional investment will allow us to tap into new markets and cement our leadership position as the best and biggest taxi booking mobile app in the region. Our teams are growing and passionate about providing the best service to taxi drivers and commuters. We continue to invest in the best local talent in each market because we want to build a world class team that responds to local demands.”

Around the region

GrabTaxi is the clear industry leader in the five countries that it currently operates in. More than 250,000 people in the region use GrabTaxi at least once a month with the app already being downloaded onto more than one million mobile devices to date. There is a taxi booking through GrabTaxi every two seconds across the region.

As a humble for-profit social start-up, GrabTaxi believes that business and social value can be achieved in parallel. They believe that being a double bottom line company, which focuses on social good as well as economic benefit and enriching the lives of our two key stake holders – taxi drivers and passengers – have enabled us to come this far.

GrabTaxi’s ‘Share your Ride’ function, which allows users to share their journey through social media or messaging apps with friends and family, has provided extra security for passengers that has never been available before. GrabTaxi also allows users to rate their drivers and view their information, giving users peace-of-mind when booking taxis. Drivers under the GrabTaxi network have experienced a 30% to 300% increase in revenue and our passengers feel safer with our service.

Tan was keen to point out that GrabTaxi takes all customer feedback seriously.

“It is our policy to suspend any drivers and passengers found guilty of wrongdoings upon thorough investigation. Our stakeholders are always pleasantly surprised when we call them to say that action has been taken,” said Tan.

The funding

This additional investment is a testament to the effectiveness of GrabTaxi and how it has made a significant impact in the markets that they have entered. Vertex Venture funding has provided the impetus to ensure GrabTaxi moves ahead at a strong pace in each market.

“GrabTaxi is a start-up that has shown tremendous potential and we’re confident that it will continue to dominate the taxi booking industry in the region. We invest in potential champions which have developed new technology platforms or business models that disrupt the incumbents and old inefficient ways of doing things. We clearly see GrabTaxi as one such champion in the making. We are very happy to be an investor in GrabTaxi and we will continue to provide strong support both financially and in strategic value-add to strengthen GrabTaxi leadership position in this region,” said Chua Kee Lock, Group President & CEO of Vertex Venture Holdings.

On being the proud financier of GrabTaxi, Dato' Lee Kok Kwan, CEO, Corporate Banking, Treasury and Markets, CIMB Group said, “From a home-grown start-up, to becoming a dominant Southeast Asia powerhouse in the taxi booking industry today in just 2 short years, this is a clear testament of GrabTaxi’s foresight and resolute tenacity. Similar to how CIMB had grown to become the leading ASEAN bank from our humble beginnings as a small Malaysia investment bank, we are glad to be able to support start-ups like GrabTaxi in achieving their greater aspirations.”
