Discover Weekly Reaches Nearly 5 Billion Tracks Streamed Since Launch Over 40 million users have tuned in to listen to Discover Weekly on Spotify

Spotify, the world’s most popular music streaming service, shares that over 40 million users love Discover Weekly, with nearly 5 billion tracks streamed since it launched in June 2015 

Updated every Monday morning, Discover Weekly gives users the best-ever music recommendations, tailored specifically to what users listen to, and delivered as a weekly mixtape of awesome, completely personalized music. Now everyone has a reason to look forward to Mondays! 

Here’s a look at how Spotify users are keeping their listening fresh with Discover Weekly: 
  • More than half of all Discover Weekly listeners come back the following week. 
  • More than half of all Discover Weekly listeners stream at least 10 tracks from each week. 
  • More than half of Discover Weekly listeners go on to save at least one song to their own playlist. 
  • Discover Weekly is most popular among 25-34 age group, closely followed by the 55+ age group. 
  • The top three genres streamed from Discover Weekly since its launch are (1) pop, (2) indietronica, and (3) indie pop. 
  • Discover Weekly is not just about giving listeners personalized music; it is also about benefiting artists and helping them to get discovered. Half of the listeners of over 8,000 artists come from Discover Weekly; artists like BØRNS and Halsey were discovered by over a million new listeners through Discover Weekly.
Other artists like Transviolet, Tasty Treat, and Safakash – all of whom have over half their monthly listeners coming from Discover Weekly – have used that bump to meaningfully grow their fanbase.

Samsung unveils cutting-edge curved TVs

Television technology has once again been elevated with the latest Samsung Curved TVs. Launched at the “Archipelago: The 2016 Samsung Curved TV Dealer Launch,” more than 170 dealers, partners, and stakeholders joined Samsung executives at the City of Dreams last May 25 for an evening of discovery, innovation, and entertainment.

The star of the evening was the Samsung Curved SUHD TV boasting its Quantum Dot Technology and High Dynamic Range (HDR), which conventional TVs cannot replicate. The Quantum Dot technology gives viewers life-like color expression with up to 1 billion colors. HDR gives a wider range of brightness, allowing us to see even the smallest details. The Samsung SUHD Curved TV also features the new Samsung One Remote, an amazing upgrade to the traditional remote control that lets you control every connected device in your TV with just one remote.

For me, that character was Michelle Darnel,” says McCarthy. “I loved her so much that I couldn’t let her go and would randomly bring her up and talk about her over the years. She’s a tricky one though, because she is so dynamic, so forceful and so confident. Yet, Michelle is someone who makes you wonder what lies beneath it all when she says, ‘I don’t need anyone, other than myself.” 


Comedian and co-producer Chris Henchy says, “It was fantastic to watch Melissa performing this bombastic character on stage, and even then you could see the viability of building a whole movie around that character. Ben and Melissa have always had it in their mind to get to the point where Michelle Darnell could be turned into a full-length feature so it was an easy invitation for us to help make this movie.”

Google launches doodle to celebrate Independence Day

Manila, Philippines - June 12, 2016: Google Philippines joins the country as it celebrates 118 years of independence, with a special one-day only doodle on the Google.com.ph homepage. This year’s Independence Day doodle features the classic Filipino roadtrip showcasing a festively-designed multicolored jeepney filled with a mix of family and friends prepared for an adventure ahead.


The seventh Independence Day Google doodle is inspired by Filipinos’ love for adventure and pride for their country. The Philippines is home to thousands of tourist destinations, which they like to enjoy with their family and friends. The doodle reflects the importance of the family for every Filipino and their passion for discovering the beauty of their nation.

Clicking on the Google doodle will lead visitors to more information about the history of Philippine independence.

“Doodle” is the name used for decorative changes made to the Google logo to celebrate holidays, anniversaries, and the lives of famous artists, pioneers, and scientists. Doodles make searches even more fun as we learn new things with each new design.

This fun activity began in 2000 when Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin asked their intern Dennis Hwang to create a doodle for Bastille Day. It was so well-received that Hwang was promoted to chief doodler and doodles began showing up more regularly. Through the years, doodlers have created over 2,000 doodles that brighten the Google homepage and bring smiles to readers all over the world.
