Celebrity guests talk about Mental Health in 2nd BRATS on July 25

Following its successful launch last month, BRATS (Boy R. Abunda Talk Series) is holding another interesting round of sharing life stories from guest speakers, interacting with the audience and delivering inspiring message from Boy Abunda on July 25, 7 p.m., at the Satin Room 2 of Seda Vertis North.

BRATS will focus on the topic about Mental Health in an aim to encourage people to speak up about their own experiences and share their points of view with individuals who may be struggling to explain what they are going through. According to mentalhealth.gov, Mental Health includes our emotional, psychological and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others and make choices. If one experiences mental health problems, his thinking, mood and behavior could be affected.

Just recently, news involving the suicide deaths of fashion designer Kate Spade and chef, author and TV host Anthony Bourdain shocked the world. The cause of the disheartening act was linked to depression. No one knew what was going through inside of them days or even hours before they cut their lives short.

What's best for any individual is to never be ashamed to openly talk about how he/she feels and share what goes through the mind to identify early on the source of the problem.

As what Boy said in his BRATS opening remarks, people need to talk to each other. "We need to touch each other's lives. We need to listen to each other. We are in a wired generation. One of our goals is to go back to the basics. To enjoy laughter, aspirations and conversations. And it should be experienced live."

In BRATS: Mental Health, guest speakers Miss International 2016 Kylie Versoza, actress and model Jasmine Curtis Smith, actress and screen writer Bela Padilla, NGO advocate Quennie Maravillas and student Nykko Bautista are ready to share their own stories with the audience and listen to what anyone wants to say without the need to ask for anybody's permission.

Why Filipinos are the Best Remote Workers

The Philippines has grown into one of the largest and most popular outsourcing destinations in the world since the industry exploded a few years ago. The country has embraced the work from home solution with a bill protecting remote workers close to being passed into law.

Well known for being dependable, optimistic hard workers, Filipinos demonstrate their dedication regardless of where they work or whoever they work for. Being exposed to the concept early on, Filipinos have mastered the art of working from home to the point that they have unlocked the winning formula on how to thrive in the work-from-home industry That being said, the best remote workers employers will find are those from the Philippines and here’s why:
Reliability.
One of the biggest challenges in remote business is reliability. An employer is thousands of miles away from a staff member so a remote worker should be someone who can effectively do their job with minimal supervision.
Many Filipino workers are already familiar with the nitty-gritty of remote work. They understand the importance of deadlines. They have adapted to the challenges posed by working with someone in a different time zone, knowing full well that their working hours will run from midnight to early morning. This is something they are very well prepared for because in the Philippines, one of the top BPO capitals of the world, graveyard shift is very common.
Communication skills.
Open communication is essential in any remote job. When staff members are from the opposite sides of the world, remote workers should be able to loop their employer in at all times to provide updates and work progress.

Although having to deal with a string of typhoons a year, which could sometimes cause power
outages, Filipinos will go out of their way to make sure that they can come to work. They will exhaust all options before they throw in the towel and skip work. Even then, they make sure to keep in contact as long as they could.

Overachievers.
Working long hours is dreaded in most workplaces, but in the Philippines, it’s as ordinary as showing up to work. Filipino workers are willing to go the extra mile just to make sure they provide the absolute best output.

They also recognize the importance of growth for the company and for themselves. Filipino workers make an effort to enrich their skill set and deepen their knowledge whenever they can.
Filipinos try to master as many skills as they can, not only because they want to make sure they put high quality of work, but because they know the importance of being versatile. And in the remote space, versatility is well-sought after.

English proficiency.
In the Philippines, English is well entrenched in the people’s lives. School curriculums take into account overall English aptitude by encouraging students not just to learn how to use the language, but also the proper diction and intonation as that of the native speakers. Schools incorporate English speech and writing classes and many others to develop this, which even paved the way for the Philippines to become a destination for foreign students who wish to learn English.
English proficiency is of utmost importance in remote work due to its heavy dependability on oral and written communication. Thanks to this, Filipino remote workers absorb the tasks and instructions with ease and efficiency and be able to hold their own in client transactions and conversations.

Western Culture.
Even beyond the classroom walls, Filipinos are exposed to the language by immersing themselves in the American culture--may it be in the movies, television, sports, lifestyle, and fashion.

Their appreciation and deep connection to the West, which stems from their colonial history, allow them to be more adaptable, which is partly why remote work was a transition that employees in the Philippines handled efficiently and gracefully.

Highly educated.
As of June 2018, the Philippines boasts a high literacy rate of 98%. The country recognizes the value of learning and has put in place a higher education system that rivals that of the United States.

With the spirit of greatness and excellence instilled in them, Filipinos do not take education for granted and work hard to earn degrees. Because of this, the Philippines is home to professionals of unrivalled prowess and talent recognized in the whole world.

Ingenuity.
Remote work often requires someone to be a good problem solver. Most telecommuting jobs involve providing solutions for clients. Filipinos are well-known for their positivity and ability to rise from the direst of circumstances with a smile on their face. So there really isn’t so much that phases a Filipino and client issues certainly won’t. They are also very empathetic so remote workers from the Philippines will stop at nothing to resolve a client’s problem.
Loyalty.
To Filipinos, a job is never just a job, it is a commitment. So they tend to cultivate and nurture it with all they’ve got. This comes from their innate warmth and friendliness, which also help them easily foster a bond with their co-workers. From this develops camaraderie, which translates to a sense of collaboration that can sometimes be intangible in a remote setting.
Another testament to their loyalty is that they never let kindness go unreciprocated. If they are treated well, they make sure to give back by sticking by you and consistently delivering. They value a good working relationship so you’d find many of them staying in the same company for decades.

Infrastractures.
In support of its growing workforce of educated and English-proficient professionals, the country has prioritized the development of modern infrastructure facilities and new technologies as it further solidifies its place in the ever-expanding outsourcing industry. Universities have also started incorporating BPO-related training programs.

In lieu of this, employers are assured that Filipino workers are well-equipped with everything they need to thrive in the remote workplace. VPN systems and software improvement also pave the way for telecommuting to grow in the country.

Jamba Juice shows off the Better Blended Life through Ultimate

Over 500 people come together for a weekend of Ultimate frisbee at the first ever Jamba Juice Whirl’d Cup

What do you get when you blend a plastic disc, a diverse community, and a thirst for new experiences? The very first Jamba Juice Whirl’d Cup, of course. Jamba Juice is focused on blending real whole fruits and veggies to create great tasting and refreshing beverages. In its maiden tournament at the Alabang Country Club, Jamba Juice showed how life can be Better Blended as it brought together different kinds of people into a community sharing in the spirit of Ultimate frisbee over smoothies.

For Mark De Joya, Brand Development Director for Jamba Juice, Ultimate frisbee strongly resonates with the brand. “Jamba Juice believes in mixing it up, having a positive energy, and creating rich human experiences. We take unusual combinations and blend them together to create unique experiences for our customers. And that’s what the Whirl’d Cup is about – blending all these components to create a fun, open, inclusive event where people can take part in the growing Ultimate community,” he said.

Ultimate Frisbee, or simply known as Ultimate, has been gaining popularity in the Philippines. It’s a no-contact, self-officiated sport that only really needs a disc and a place to play. No special equipment required, just Spirit. It’s due to this very simple nature that has drawn fans and players from all walks of life.

“Ultimate is about the Spirit of the Game. It doesn’t matter what your background is or where you come from. Anyone can give Ultimate a try, have some fun, learn some new things, and meet great people along the way,” said Pinggoy Bautista, President of the Philippine Flying Disc Association, the official governing body of all disc sports in the country.

This diversity was on full display at the recently concluded Jamba Juice Whirl’d Cup 2018, as men, women, and children from different backgrounds came together to play, compete, and have fun. Kids as young as 10 years old were throwing discs to veterans of the game who were in their 40s. The tournament had musicians, corporate executives, service professionals, entrepreneurs, and people from other professions – all of whom bonded over smoothies like Jamba’s Piña Colada Refresher – in between their matches.

Bullet Dumas, a musician and math teacher, has been in the game for several years now and has blended his artistic interests with his love of the game. “You don’t normally associate musicians with sports but with Ultimate, anyone can play. I’ve come to appreciate Ultimate as an art as well – the skill and movement has a certain grace to it,” he noted in Filipino.

Chuckie Dreyfus

There was no shortage of new players as well, who were welcomed with open arms by the community. Survivor castaway and all-around dad Chuckie Dreyfus, a man of diverse talents who is no stranger to mixing it up, played well in his very first foray into Ultimate. “It was a fantastic experience. Considering it was my first time to play, my teammates were so welcoming. In the span of two days, I fell in love with the game and the people,” he said.

It wasn’t all fun and games as the 31 teams battled hard to win. The matches got progressively more intense as the weekend went on. Players were jumping and diving to make crucial plays. In the end, there were 4 teams who emerged champions of their respective brackets: Pancake X (Pool A), DC Brats (Pool B), The Saints (Pool C), and Hux (Pool D).

More than winning and losing, it was all about the spirit of the game. “What really struck me was the sportsmanship and camaraderie. Everyone was competing hard but also encouraging and congratulating other teams. That’s what made me love Ultimate. And that’s what made this weekend really special,” said Sel Guevarra, a sportscaster, professional bodybuilder, and an Ultimate newbie.

Jamba Juice made sure players and fans alike were hydrated and energized throughout the two-day tournament. In between matches, players would flock to the Jamba Juice Fender Blender, a mobile smoothie truck, to get their fix of fresh fruit blends and talk about the game they all play.

With over 500 people from all over attending the Whirl’d Cup, it looks like we can expect more Ultimate action from Jamba Juice in the future. “At Jamba, we want to support those who want to drink life up. So it’s refreshing to see the level of diversity, inclusivity, and community in a competitive sport like Ultimate. We believe that this kind of blending truly squeezes the most of what life has to offer. It’s more than just a plastic disc – it’s the community of those that move it that makes it truly better blended. When it comes to chasing a better blended life, we have a simple mantra: Thirst Begins Today. So there’s no better time to start than now. That said, it is events like this that we look forward to seeing more of in the future,” said Stephanie Elumba, Marketing Manager for Jamba Juice.

Happy and healthy comes together in the NESTOKID® FOUR Grow Happy Nation event happening from July 14 to 15 at the Midtown Atrium of Robinsons Place Manila and on July 21 to 22 at the SM City Dasmariñas Cavite Activity Center. Headlined by exciting activities and fun, learning opportunities for both parents and kids, NESTOKID® FOUR advocates the importance of providing children not only with the right nutrition needed to support their crucial developmental years, but also a happy environment where they can grow, flourish, and enjoy time with the family.

What it means to grow happy and healthy

All moms and dads want to see their kids grow happy and healthy, which is why they go to great lengths just to give their children the best, regardless of life circumstances.

NESTOKID® FOUR believes that raising happy and healthy children can start with something as simple as with choosing the right milk, as nutrition is vital for good health and well-being. NESTOKID® FOUR is specially formulated with L. Comfort is, a probiotic that helps strengthen tummies to provide better digestion and help in absorption of nutrients, making sure that kids get the nutrition they need during their growing-up years. It is also packed with Protein, Vitamin A, Vitamin D, Calcium, Iron, and DHA for overall growth and development.

NESTOKID® FOUR, however, acknowledges that milk is just one of the key components to raising a happy and healthy child, and therefore encourages parents to complement proper nutrition with providing their children a nurturing environment where they can play, imagine, and bond with loved ones.

The and proud mommy of two, Melai Cantiveros-Francisco agrees saying, “I learned from my experience with Amelia that proper nutrition should go hand-in-hand with a happy home talaga. I really think it makes all the difference, lalo na ngayon na nakikita ko kung gaano siya ka-confident saschool at kung gaano kadali sa kanya makipagkaibigan.Daig pa ako sa pagiging Ms. Congeniality!”

Join the Grow Happy movement

By joining the event prepared by NESTOKID® FOUR, parents and their kids can enter the activity area and learn more about how they can Grow Happy through four major stations: Laro (Play) allows kids to be physically active through a friendly game of ring toss, Likha (Art) gives participants the freedom to express themselves through lines and colors, while Musika (Music) challenges kids to a fun game of musical chairs with a twist.
