Globe provides P51.2-M Covid-19 support in Q1 2021

Globe remains steadfast in helping Filipinos since the crisis started with Covid-19 support reaching Php 51.2 million for the first quarter of 2021.  The assistance comes in services and promos, external fundraising efforts, customer donations and in-kind donations.

Globe’s assistance to its community partners reached more than Php 5.4 million in the first three months of the year while the fundraising that Globe ran for the Philippine General Hospital Medical Foundation, Inc. via Globe Rewards raised a total of Php 786,789.

More than 3,787 students and teachers received connectivity support via Globe At Home Prepaid and pocket WiFis that Globe provided to its partner companies and organizations such as Ayala Foundation, Inc. (AFI), Knowledge Channel Foundation Inc. (KCFI), ABS-CBN, Mary’s Way Foundation, HERO Foundation, and Missouri-based software company AMDOCS.

Globe also provided internet connectivity to persons with disabilities, displaced workers, and out-of-school youth undergoing upskilling programs with the Digital Jobs PH program of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and Davao-based social enterprise Virtualahan.

Likewise,  teachers and students who are Globe users continue to have free access to online learning resources such as Globe eLibrary (https://globeelibrary.ph/), DepEd Commons (https://commons.deped.gov.ph/), PHL CHED Connect (https://phlconnect.ched.gov.ph/home), and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) (https://www.tesda.gov.ph/)

“We continue to support our stakeholders especially since the impact of the pandemic has yet to abate. It has affected many, including our employees, contractors, suppliers, our customers and most especially our communities. We at Globe knew that we needed to step up and provide the much-needed assistance that our kababayans require,” said Yoly Crisanto, Globe Chief Sustainability Officer and SVP for Corporate Communications.

Globe also gives importance on the well-being of its employees, contractors, and vendor-partners. Thus, more than Php 46 million was used to cover essentials such as health assistance, personal protective equipment, transportation fares, and meal subsidies.

In February this year, Globe’s RT-PCR testing laboratory started its operations in Mandaluyong to ensure that its workforce is properly tested and protected from the deadly virus.  The Globe RT-PCR Lab has a capacity to conduct more than 300 tests per day, and if needed, can be increased to a maximum of 800 tests per day.

Globe, being also committed to look after the mental health of its people given the psychological impact that the pandemic brings, piloted HopeChat last year so that the employees could chat with licensed psychologists without compromising their privacy and safety.

All Globe programs and partnerships are in support of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDG).

Earth Warriors Use TikTok to Raise Awareness on Pressing Environmental Matters

Manila, Philippines – April 29, 2021
–  As an easy-to-use platform for creative expression TikTok gives users an opportunity to shine a light on their advocacies through content that is both informative and entertaining. With this, creators are able to keep others informed on issues that they are passionate about. One pressing topic that has been creating buzz on TikTok is the preservation and protection of the environment.

In celebration of Earth Month, which takes place in April of every year, highlighted by Earth Day on April 22nd, TikTok reinforces its continued commitment to boost awareness around environmental issues, and educate communities on sustainability, in a way that will resonate with many people around the world. This will be done through a communications campaign that aims to encourage sustainability-led conversations and trends on the platform and highlight local creators and content that are driven towards this cause.

Anyone looking for ideas on how to better care for the environment can already find a lot of inspiration on TikTok. These videos are a great place to start.

NutriAsia and Del Monte team up to donate upcycled school chairs under Share-A-Chair initiative

Keeping with its advocacies of helping Filipino communities in need and minimizing the impact of plastic waste, NutriAsia, Inc. and Del Monte Philippines, Inc. partnered together to donate upcycled plastic school chairs to several public elementary schools.

This was done through the Share-a-Chair initiative, a program started by NutriAsia and Del Monte in which the companies collect single-use plastic waste from their different offices and plant sites to turn them into school chairs and other needed furniture for the underprivileged public schools and communities. It is the culmination of the two companies’ partnership forged to help the Department of Education address the perennial shortage of school chairs.

NutriAsia and Del Monte Philippines, Inc. have partnered for Share-a-Chair, an advocacy program wherein plastic waste materials from their offices and plants are collected and upcycled into school furnishings. Each school received 50 pieces of armchairs and a teacher’s table with chair.

NutriAsia and Del Monte collected 19.3 metric tons of plastic waste from their offices and plants for a period of six months. Part of this collection went to the Share-a-Chair donation of 600 school chairs and teachers’ tables distributed to 12 different partner schools in Bukidnon, Cagayan de Oro City, Misamis Oriental, and Davao that NutriAsia and Del Monte have chosen for the program.

NutriAsia and Del Monte then partnered with Envirotech Waste Recycling, Inc., a local company with ground-breaking technology to upcycle the collected plastic waste into the furnishings. Upcycling is the process of transforming waste and discarded materials into useable items which is Envirotech’s field of expertise.

Through the Share-a-Chair program and their spirit of resourcefulness, NutriAsia and Del Monte aim to continue upcycling plastic waste and creating more school chairs to be donated to various partner schools across the country. This way, the companies can fulfill their goals of assisting underprivileged Filipino communities and reducing the negative environmental impact of plastic.

Globe empowers youth to connect the nation with #Globe5GHackathon

It’s been more than a year since the start of the pandemic and even the most forward-thinking people were genuinely unprepared for the challenges of these unprecedented times. Globe believes that through technology, many people, especially the youth, have connected with others and even come up with innovative solutions to modern problems.

In partnership with Animo Labs of De La Salle University-Manila, Globe has launched #Globe5GHackathon, the biggest hackathon event in the country last April 27. Kicking off on Virtual Hangouts, students and young professionals from all over the country are invited to attend enablement workshops to inspire them to think out of the box and reinvent their power to create change today and for future generations through Globe’s 5G technology.

“Globe believes that the youth can unlock the nation’s potential through breakthrough innovations. By giving them a platform and the right tools to turn their ideas into reality, they can create lasting impact through the proper use of 5G technology,” said Issa Guevarra-Cabreira, Globe Chief Commercial Officer.

The workshops, slated to happen between May 21 and June 4, 2021, will give participants the chance to be coached and mentored by industry experts on 5G technology and innovation. They will then be able to cultivate their ideas and bring them to life through a nationwide pitch from June 21 to 25, 2021. Winning teams will get exciting prizes and get the opportunity to have their ideas funded by one of Globe’s partners and 917Ventures, Globe’s largest corporate venture builder. Awarding of winners is on September 3, 2021.

The 5G Hackathon is part of the telco’s continuous efforts to create a #FirstWorldNetwork in the country.

The company strongly supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly UN SDG No. 9 which highlights the roles of infrastructure and innovation as crucial drivers of economic growth and development.
