MVP Beyond the Suit - Advocacy for Tourism

A pause to recharge or reimagining a future that empowers Filipinos to co-build a more robust tourism industry in Batangas, Manuel V. Pangilinan (MVP) is not your conventional business leader as he strikes a balance of both endeavors.
MVP walked around CaSoBe and inspected Cocoons, the unique capsule-like rooms designed with a mural of sea creatures.

As Chairman of the infrastructure conglomerate Metro Pacific Investments Corp. (MPIC) and other numerous companies that provide essential services, MVP stays on top of the company’s COVID-19 response in support of the government efforts. At the same time, he jumpstarts the preparedness of the Philippine economy to bounce back from the global health crisis with his vision for tourism in Batangas.

MVP leads his team to have courage in facing the future with bright prospects through the uncertainties. He does all these while he visits the pristine beauty of the Landco’s latest Leisure Tourism Estates (LTE) – the 15-hectare Calatagan South Beach, better known as CaSoBē.
“Through Landco Pacific Corp.’s latest beachside projects: CaSoBē and Club Laiya, I take pride in promoting Batangas as one of the country’s top tourist destinations. These properties are responsibly developed to preserve the cultural and natural features of the place; provide employment for locals; and give Filipinos an opportunity to recover from these unprecedented times by not just building their dream beach homes but opting to create Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) that cater to the tourism market,” MVP stated.

Architect's Perspective of CaSoBe.

These master-planned estates are the newest projects of upscale real estate developer Landco, a subsidiary of MPIC. These developments under Landco BeachTowns are close to MVP’s heart as he foresees these lively leisure and tourism destinations in Batangas as the next big thing. The country’s answer to some of the world’s most vibrant beachside destinations: Ibiza, Spain; Ipanema, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; and Capri, Italy.

For more than three decades, Landco made its mark in developing exclusive and luxurious properties around the country. One of its leading projects is Peninsula de Punta Fuego, a premiere luxury seaside residential community situated on the 88-hectare of pristine coastline in Nasugbu, Batangas.

Leveraging on tourism as one of the key drivers for the country’s growth when it emerges from these challenging times, Landco with the leadership of MVP, envisions a revolutionary and innovative new concept.
Crusoe Cabins is Millennial Resorts’ unique beachfront accommodation at CaSoBe.

Landco CEO Erickson Y. Manzano supports MVP’s vision to position the LTE as thriving and inclusive seaside communities in the travel and leisure destination of Batangas, inspiring entrepreneurship and work-life harmony.
“It’s a gamechanger approach. Instead of making it exclusive, it’s open to the tourism market but remains aspirational and premium,” said Manzano. “It presents an opportunity for budding Filipino entrepreneurs or those who would like to work closer with nature. Eventually, the place will not just be a hotspot for local tourists but for inbound travelers from abroad,” he added.
CaSoBē offers a mix of seaside residential homes, and beachside retail and commercial establishments. There’s a Retail Row, a Harbour Walk, and an Activity Block – with lot sizes ranging from 356 square meters to 890 square meters. All these lots are near the beach and paved with pedestrian streets. There’s a common area estate WIFI, 24/7 security with CCTV, a beach promenade and a hotel-inspired property management service.

It's is a haven for those who prefer more privacy and a laidback and intimate lifestyle. It is near Cape Santiago lighthouse, a golf course, Little Boracay sandbar, Starfish island and the underwater pyramid.

Located on the other side of the Batangas coastline, the 24-hectare Club Laiya features a combination of residential and commercial-ready lots in the tourist spot of San-Juan Laiya Road. It’s a choice destination for the stylish and chic leisure seekers who love to work on their tan, get into water sports and hangout in the hottest party scenes. A row of diverse resorts, restaurants and bars already dots its shores.

Two to three hours away from Metro Manila, CaSoBē and Club Laiya are both LEED-registered with Landco’s commitment for long-term environmental sustainability.

MVP attests to CaSoBē’s significance as a tourist destination and an ideal work from the beach venue in the new normal. His business calendar was filled with Zoom meetings and online conferences with a seaside view and assistance by the warm and friendly local staff.
Aquaria is Millennial Resorts’ waterpark with a three-story giant slide at CaSoBe.

Helmed by Landco’s Senior Consultant for Hospitality Patrick C. Gregorio, the Edge-registered Millennial Resorts Corporation (MRC) is the hospitality service provider within the LTE. MRC owns and operates unconventional accommodations: Cocoons and Crusoe Cabins, select leisure facilities: Laiya Beach Club at Club Laiya and Aquaria, a waterpark with a three-story giant slide at CaSoBē These are the tourism attractions for which the properties are known for.

Landco projects are in line with MPIC’s commitment to help achieve the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals to make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable; and strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development.

For MVP, coming home to a tropical paradise in these LTE is a breeze. It’s going to be the newest trend in the travel industry.

Following their Philippine debut on September 23, these two products performed well in the market, with thousands of Filipinos placing their orders via exclusive e-commerce partner Lazada, and in over 5,000 realme stores and partner dealers nationwide.

The realme GT Master Edition, the brand’s latest flagship offering, was a hit among realme fans as proven by its sold-out status on Lazada in less than 24 hours since its launch. It also generated impressive results from the Lazada Sulit Sweldo Sale on September 30, as well as from the brand’s first offline selling weekend on October 2 to 3, making it the fastest realme smartphone to sell out on its first weekend.

Coming in two stunning colors, the realme GT Master Edition showcases the brand’s mastery of design and product innovation. Meanwhile, the brand’s first-ever laptop, the realme Book, also underscored its promising debut performance within the category, as it generated a staggering amount of pre-orders for both i3 and i5 variants, just hours within its official launch on Lazada.

The realme Book is lauded by the realme Squadfans, media, and influencers alike—for its slim and lightweight design, high-resolution 2K Full-Vision Display, and 54Wh large battery with 65W Super-Fast Charge, among many other notable features, all within an accessible price range. In addition, it runs on the latest 11th Gen Intel® Core™ Processor in i3 and i5 variants, and is equipped with Stereo Sound by DTS (Powerful Bass Sound by HARMAN). It comes in two stylish colors: Real Silver and Real Blue.

The debut success of realme’s latest offerings once again proves the brand’s ability to disrupt the industry with high-caliber tech products that stay within an accessible price point. “We are grateful for the Squad’s continued support and trust for our latest line-up of premium yet affordable products. Rest assured, the brand is committed to breaking the line that divides affordability and premium quality, to provide the best digital experience to every Filipino”, shares Austine Huang, realme Philippines’ VP for Marketing.

In addition, the realme GT Master Edition can be availed in all realme concept stores, kiosks, and partner dealers nationwide. "Baro't Saya Tuwa At Ligaya"- the first solo art exhibit of Edgar San Diego, all set to open on Oct. 9

SM Megamall proudly presents the first solo art exhibit of noted fashion designer EDGAR SAN DIEGO titled ‘BARO’T SAYA TUWA AT LIGAYA’
from October 9 - 15, 2021
Ground Level, Mega Fashion Hall at SM Megamall.

The theme of the exhibit is a ‘Tribute of Joy to the Filipina and her Traditional Dress amidst the Pandemic.’

Edgar’s love for the beautiful Filipina, traditions, costumes and production design is evident on his paintings, keeping in mind that the colors are bright and the subjects are happy in creating positive vibes which we need most in this pandemic. He chose to deal with beautiful characters in their colorful costumes and nostalgic scenarios.

Why this crossover from fashion design to visual arts ?

“I turned 60 last March 13, 2020. And then after 2 days, the lockdown was imposed. I thought that it was only going to last for a month or two. So to keep me away from boredom, I cleaned the house, reorganized my cabinets and do things that I neglected when I was busy with my dress shop. However, when I ran out of things to fix, I decided to pick up my brushes and called my canvas supplier. Luckily, she was open all the time to accept my orders. What I did was to order an extra 4 to 6 canvases which eventually gave me no excuse to stop.”

“I shared posted some of my early works on Facebook while daughter Abby posted them on her Instagram account. The favorable remarks and thousands of likes were heartwarming and encouraged me to create more. The choices for the artworks included in this exhibit is also based on how much people reacted to them.”
Just like in fashion, Edgar always takes inspiration from classic masters like Christian Dior, Balenciaga, YSL, Inno Sotto, and Joe Salazar. In the visual arts, he admires Gustav Klimt, Vincent Van Gogh, Edgar Degas, Diego Rivera, Claude Monet, Fernando Amorsolo, and Carlos Botong Francisco.

For his women of style and substance, Edgar’s inspiration comes from Frida Kahlo, Tamara de Lempicka, Betsty Westerndorp, among others.

Before Edgar San Diego became a fashion designer, he used to hand-paint on formal clothes for established designers during his UST Fine Arts days. He was also a display-window artist at the Plaza Fashion Mart where he had a chance to meet fashion directors, models and more designers whom he we will eventually work with after college.

In 1981, he was invited and became the youngest pioneer of the Fashion Designers Association of the Philippines where he eventually served as president for 4 terms.

Edgar’s citations and awards include: “Haute Couture Designer of the Year” in the Manila Fashion Designers Awards in 1989.

“Grand Prix Best Costume Award” in Carnival in Rio in Manila, which brought him to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil 19905-time winner in the Annual Flores de Mayo at The Manila Hotel.

Philippine representative to the 1989 Asean Fashion Connections in Singapore

Awarded as one of the Outstanding Alumni of UST College of Fine Arts and Don Bosco Technical Institue

As a costume designer, Edgar’s credits include Repertory Philippines’ “The Wizard of Oz”, “The Man of La Mancha”, “M Butterfly”, “Aladdin”, “The Sound of Music”, etc. ;Trumpets’ “The Lion , the Witch and the Wardrobe” , and “Little Mermaid” and New Port theater’s “ Priscilla, Queen of the Desert”.

He also made cinematic costumes for Star Cinema’s “ Sarah ang Munting Princesa” and “Ceddie”.

Edgar has also successfully promoted fashion and culture through fashion shows with Filipino communities in New York, New Jersey, California, Florida, Atlanta, Missouri, Chicago, Guam, Honolulu, and London. His solo gala fashion shows were also presented in Manila, Honolulu, Jakarta an Melbourne.

Baro't Saya Tuwa At Ligaya is co-presented by SM Appliance Center, TCL, Amelia's Garden, Artistshop, BERINGER Wines, Doltz Pilar, Flyace Corporation, Gari P. Palmani.

The production team of the exhibit are as follows: Dan Pablo (videographer), Jun Lopez (curator), Willie de Vera (photographer), Toots Tolentino (publicist) and Barbara San Diego (muse).
