Do you want to be an Artist? Join the annual year-end ABS-CBN Star Magic Workshops

Do you want to be part of Star Magic’s Artist Registry talent pool and get a chance to act in ABS-CBN’s teleseryes?

The annual year-end Star Magic Workshops are about to kick off! Have the chance to be part of our Artist Registry and act in ABS-CBN shows and digital productions.

Hosted by Lou Yanong, together with Kiara Takahashi, Andi Abaya, Kobie Brown, and Christian Bables, and Head of Star Magic Artist Training and Workshops Direk Rahyan Carlos, know more about how you can take part of this awesome opportunity anywhere you are in the world.

After the success of the recent online launch of Star Magic Workshops, they will re-open the Artist Registry of Star Magic, to welcome more talents from our public workshops. Now, students will have more access to auditions and will have a chance to be a talent for the network’s teleseryes!

When the pandemic shut down all countries, their borders and economies last year, Rahyan Carlos, head of the Star Magic Artist Training and Workshops did not waste time in studying and finding ways to transpose all workshops and training for the actors. “Last April 2020 after a month-long of intensive studying, auditing classes abroad and transposing modules online with my teachers, we resumed the training for acting, dance, voice and conversational tagalog via zoom. And it worked!” said Direk Rahyan.

Even if after the network’s shutdown happened last year, this did not dampen the spirit of Direk Rahyan to stop training actors. In fact, he and his teachers held all workshops online via zoom. In June 2020, Star Magic had a soft launch of all workshops online. “We had 250 students all over the world during the pandemic from 22 participating countries such as England, London, New Zealand, Singapore, Japan, Australia, Florence Italy, Virginia, New York, L.A., Guam, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, France, New Jersey, Dubai, Qatar and Canada. We had live and recorded online recitals and culminating activities of all our workshops and people were so entertained and cheered for their loved ones who participated in the online training,” said Direk Rahyan.

Last October 2020, Star Magic Workshops also launched its first-ever online workshop for participants in Canada in partnership with A.M.P. (Artist Movement Production), a group of Filipinos who provide education and training services in various aspects of the performing arts. The workshop was done in Canada EST time and the vernacular used was English since some of the Filipino participants were born and raised in Canada. Canada has the largest Filipino ethnic community and market for the performing arts. 40 participants graduated from the soft launch of the intensive workshop last year and it was a success!

This year-end, in partnership with Annabelle Regalado of E-Talent Musikademy, we will open our workshops in Australia. We will also do the first hybrid workshops in Canada under A.M.P. where 80 percent of training will be online and 20 percent will be face-to-face workshops as we will bring the rehearsal and recital physically to Toronto, Canada.

Direk Rahyan is the only certified Chubbuck Technique acting teacher behind the training of some of the most sought-after and award-winning actors of today such as Christian Bables, Coco Martin, Julia Barretto, Jake Cuenca, Liza DiƱo-Seguerra, Anna Luna, EJ Falcon, Alora Sasam, Ynna Asistio, Roco Nacino, Sandino Martin, Arjo Atayde, Paulo Avelino, Joshua Garcia, and Charlie Dizon, the recent Best Actress of MMFF 2020 for Fan Girl, among others.

More than the new elements in the Star Magic Summer 2021 Workshops, the same exclusive, focused and international-grade lessons through the help of the award-winning and seasoned teachers remain at its core.

Compared to other training, Star Magic Workshops are not only comprehensive --they are also exclusive to only a limited number of participants. Since all training will be done via Zoom App, the teachers will be able to focus on each student’s progress.

The adult acting classes are still handled by Carla Martinez and Rubi Rubi along with Lynnette Conception and Air Paz Pablico, while the kids’ acting classes are still handled by Edna Mae Landicho and HB Benitez. The dance classes are divided into three different genres namely jazz funk, hiphop and urban led by Nesh Janiola III of Axis, Brion Lim and Myke Monses of Manouvres Ignite and Geejay Romano, respectively. Meanwhile, the voice classes are still going to be led by Philippine Madrigal Singer alumni, Luningning San Jose, Julie Anne Reyes and Roland Roldan.

Those who aspire to be trained by professional and practicing teachers in acting, dance, voice and language are all welcome to join the workshops. Enrollment is ongoing, and all classes will start in November 2021. This will be on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Nadine Lustre, Curtismith, Ben&Ben top bill KonsultaMD’s free mental health concert

Telehealth service provider KonsultaMD is bringing some of the country’s top artists together for a night of healing, music, and fun in the first-ever mental health concert on October 9, 5:30pm on KonsultaMD’s official Facebook page.

The lineup includes popular actress and singer Nadine Lustre, indie rapper, singer-songwriter Curtismith, folk-pop band Ben&Ben, and two of the nation’s hottest DJs -- Nix Damn P and Marvelous.

The concert is the culmination of KonsultaMD’s month-long “Be Kind To Your Mind” campaign which aimed to spread awareness about the importance of mental health among Filipinos.

Cholo Tagaysay, KonsultaMD CEO shared that the Philippines has come a long way when it comes to mental health awareness, although understanding that there is still some work to be done in order to standardize mental health services in the country.

He said, “More often than not, what stops a patient from seeking professional help for their mental health is the shame or stigma that it’s admitting to weakness, but what we want Filipinos to know is that seeking help is actually a form of strength. That is why, we at KonsultaMD remain committed in making consultations accessible to those who need it through our platforms and programs. This concert is only one of many that we hope to roll out for our patients and customers.”

Artists Nadine Lustre and Ben&Ben have been long-time advocates for better mental health and well-being -- using their individual platforms to spread awareness and encourage others to take the step in caring for themselves and others.

Last September 12, KonsultaMD, together with Mental Health Matters actress, model, and former beauty queen Kylie Versoza launched the campaign to support World Suicide Prevention Day. The activities included free yoga classes and free meditation and sound healing.

There were also talks about navigating the new normal, keeping relationships during the pandemic, and asking for help as an adult with speakers such as Dr. Gia Sison, Thirsty and Thirty, Kara Gozali, Mark Agas, Maxene Magalona, Zara Carbonell, Dr. Kenjee Dee, Dr. Aubrey SeƱeris, and Kylie Versoza.

Customers can get a free one-month health plan with 24/7 unlimited access to licensed mental health professionals until Oct 31st. All they have to do is download the KonsultaMD app and use the voucher code BEKINDTOYOURMIND to avail of the promo.

Globe’s #PlantHappinessPH mental health campaign amasses over 168.7 million TikTok views in just a week

Globe’s #PlantHappinessPH mental health initiative has amassed 168.7 million views on TikTok in just a week, as it spreads hope and happiness to show that #AtinAngSimpleJoys no matter how difficult a situation may be.

The campaign went live last September 27, receiving over 275 video entries from medical frontliners, delivery riders, work-from-home moms, office workers, and entrepreneurs, to name a few. It brought focus to dancing and planting as hobbies that can help relieve people’s stress and anxiety. Scored by the song “Better Days 2.0” by Quest, the video challenge reminds people that there are better days ahead and everything will be alright.

“We are so happy that in just a short time, we already received an astounding number of video submissions from TikTokers who danced, showed off their plant collections, sang along, documented their COVID vaccination, and showed their other simple joys such as cooking, working out, and taking care of their pets to promote mental health and well-being,” said Yoly Crisanto, Globe Chief Sustainability Officer and SVP for Corporate Communications.

#PlantHappinessPH has become the battle cry for hope. The challenge had dance video entries from GMA’s Sanya Lopez, Mark Herras, Rodjun Cruz, Kiray Celis, and Chuckie Dreyfus; VJ Ai dela Cruz from Myx; Mikee Agustin and Joj and Jai Agpangan from ABS-CBN as well as social media personalities including Arianne Bautista, Lennie Enverga, Marlann Flores, Klio Manabat, and Claudine Co.

As part of efforts to go the extra mile to provide care for its customers, Globe will give away thousands of free seeds and seedlings to those who joined the challenge. The company wants to help channel the anxiety being experienced by customers into positive and uplifting activities such as dancing or taking care of plants.

Participants in the Greater Manila Area get Langka and Guyabano seedlings, while those in other locations are allocated Supa and Bignay tree seeds. These were sourced from Globe sustainability partners Philippine Native Tree Enthusiasts and The Mead Foundation. Visit the www.0917lifestyle.com website and check out using the promo code SIMPLEJOYS to get the items for free.

“We are always proactively seeking out ways to bring uplifting experiences and solutions to help our customers have good mental health. Healthy hobbies and the pursuit of simple joys are some ways to stay mentally healthy. We want to remind everyone that they are not alone in the fight against stress and anxiety. Globe fully supports their mental health wellness journey,” said Crisanto.

Based on the Mental Health Atlas 2017 of the World Health Organization (WHO), mental illness is the third most common disability in the Philippines. Around six million Filipinos are estimated to be suffering from depression or anxiety. The Philippines has the third-highest rate of mental health problems in the Western Pacific Region.

As part of the company’s mental health initiatives, Globe has also partnered with the DepEd’s Disaster Risk Reduction Management Service and Bureau of Human Resource and Organizational Development Employee Welfare Division to support the well-being of teachers through TAYO Naman! (Tulong, Alaga, Yakap at Oras para sa mga Tagapagtaguyod ng Edukasyon), an online Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) program for all education advocates, including teachers, non-teaching personnel, and parents under Globe’s Global Filipino Teachers Program.

In addition, Globe encourages the public to access its “lifelines” such as HOPELINE to receive FREE 24/7 mental health support. Persons experiencing emotional crisis and who are in need of immediate assistance may contact the hotline through 2919 (toll-free for all Globe and TM subscribers), (02) 804-HOPE (4673), or 0917 558 HOPE (4673). Globe and New Good Feelings (NGF) Mindstrong have also expanded their partnership to include telehealth service integrator HealthNow app where Globe and TM subscribers may quickly call the NGF HOPELINE for FREE anytime they want to talk to someone.

Globe supports the Philippines as it celebrates the National Mental Health Week in the second week of October. The company also joins the observance of World Mental Health Day on October 10.

Globe strongly supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly UN SDG No. 3, which ensures healthy lives and promotes the well-being of all ages. It is also committed to UN SDG No. 13, which underscores the importance of climate action to save lives and livelihoods to address climate emergencies and UN SDG No. 15, which promotes the protection, restoration, and sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems.
