PayMaya and beep™ team up to provide safer, contactless commute for all

Digital financial services leader PayMaya Philippines partners with beep™ to provide commuters a safer way to load up their beep™ cards.

Commuters can enjoy a safe and contactless commute by simply purchasing their beep™ load packages on the PayMaya app. With this load up method, there is no longer a need for face-to-face interactions with the teller, as well as exchange of cash, which can contribute to the further spread of the virus.

PayMaya users can choose among three beep™ load packages on their PayMaya app:
P100, P250, and P500 with an additional P5 convenience fee.

To buy a load package on PayMaya, simply follow these easy steps:

1. Tap treats on the app homepage 2. Select a beep™ card load package 3. Input your beep™ card number, then tap continue 4. Wait for a purchase confirmation in-app and via SMS 5. Head over to a beep™ e-load station and tap your card to receive the load package.

Once the beep™ card is loaded, it can already be used on LRT 1, LRT 2, MRT 3, as well as in Point-to-Point (P2P) and Metro Manila city buses. There’s also a growing number of modern PUVs, among other transportation modes, that accept beep™ cards as a payment method.

AF Payments Head of Business Development, Sharon Fong said, “We recognize the challenges and health risks that the daily Filipino commuter faces during the pandemic. We want to help mitigate those health risks by promoting contactless commuting. So instead of paying for your fare with cash that gets passed around by different people, you just tap your beep™ card. Loading your card is also safer and more convenient when you use cashless options, such as PayMaya.”

“As the country reopens, more Filipinos are starting to go back to work and use public transportation. At PayMaya, we’re committed to making cashless options widely available in the transportation sector in order to promote a safer and more convenient commute for the public. Our partnership with beep™ is just one of the many steps we are taking to achieve this goal,” said Shailesh Baidwan, PayMaya President.

Apart from PayMaya, commuters can also reload their beep™ cards through select Smart Padala agents in their neighborhood for a quick and convenient transaction. All they have to do is follow these simple steps:

1. Go to your trusted Smart Padala agent and ask if beep load packages are available. 2. Give the beep™ card account number and load amount. You can load P100, P250, and P500. 3. Pay for the load amount with the additional P10 service fee. 4. Head over to a beep™ e-load station and tap your card to receive the purchased load.

PayMaya has previously announced its support to the directive released by the Department of Transportation and the Land Transportation Franchising Regulatory Board mandating the use of contactless payments in public utility vehicles as part of the measures in what is dubbed as the “new normal."

In June, it has entered into an agreement ride-hailing app hirna and its partner taxi drivers to be able to accept cashless payments from its customers via PayMaya QR.

PayMaya has also previously equipped taxi operators in Metro Manila, Cebu, and Baguio with contactless payments, and enabled the first digital bus ticketing system with the Araneta Bus Port for cashless payments through credit and debit cards as well as via PayMaya QR.

PayMaya is the only end-to-end digital payments ecosystem enabler in the Philippines with platforms and services that cut across consumers, merchants, and government. Aside from providing payments acceptance for the largest e-Commerce, food, retail and gas merchants in the Philippines, PayMaya enables national and social services agencies as well as local government units with digital payments and disbursement services.

Through its app and wallet, PayMaya provides millions of Filipinos with the fastest way to own a financial account with over 40,000 Add Money touchpoints nationwide, more than double the total number of traditional bank branches in the Philippines combined. Its Smart Padala by PayMaya network of over 30,000 partner touchpoints nationwide serves as last mile digital financial hubs in communities, providing the unbanked and underserved with access to services.

BGC Bus Now Accepts beep™ cards

BGC Bus and AF Payments Inc. have announced that BGC Buses are now using the beep™ card system on limited public trial. Commuters who have a beep™ card may already use them to pay for their BGC Bus rides. Fare remains at P12 per ride.

“We are pleased to partner with BGC Bus as this will move us closer to our goal of making the beep™ card an all-in-one card for commuters in Metro Manila. BGC Buses serve thousands of commuters daily and our goal is to be able to provide them with a reliable and efficient payment system, especially those who hop from the MRT or the LRT to the bus,” said Peter Maher, CEO and President of AF Payments Inc.

“BGC Bus commuters can conveniently purchase and load their beep™ cards in the Ayala and Market Market Terminal. This is in addition to selected Bayad Center, Tambunting, Villarica and SM Bills Payment Counter locations, which also offer re-loading services for beep™ cards. There are also plans to add more loading locations in the coming months, including leading convenience stores,” added Maher.

“We are excited to announce this integration because this gives our BGCitizen commuters more convenience in their daily commute,” said Mr. Jun Galvez, GM of Bonifacio Transport Corporation.

The BGC Bus line connects BGC to EDSA and Ayala Center. It has a Euro-5 compliant fleet and operates 24/7 to serve thousands of commuters, mostly employees who work in BGC and Makati. BGC Bus also takes pride in its information systems, whereby waiting time for the next bus can be accessed using the BGC app, and are also shown in most bus stops within BGC.

BGC is a financial and lifestyle district in Taguig City. It is home to contemporary office blocks, storied high streets, and parks. It has grown into an urban oasis of unique selections for shopping, dining, and entertainment.

The beep™ card replaced the old Tap BGC stored value card. It can be purchased and reloaded at the BGC Bus Ayala and Market Market terminals as well as all LRT and MRT stations. beep™ card expands usage to RRCG P2P buses

Mega Manila commuters can count on their beep™ card for rides on another point-to-point (P2P) bus line. AF Payments Inc. announced that it has implemented its tap-and-go payment system in RRCG Transport’s P2P buses from Alabang Town Center (ATC) to Greenbelt 1 (Makati City) following a successful public trial last week.

The route operates from 5:30 AM to 8:30 PM with a bus that leaves every 30 minutes. The promo fare (extended until further notice) is P50, while the one-way discounted fare for senior citizens, PWDs, and students is P40. For concessionary beep™ cardholders, the discount is automatically deducted while students who wish to avail of the discount will have to pay in cash. There will be selling booths stationed at the ATC and Greenbelt 1 terminals for those who want to purchase or reload their beep™ card.

“After our rollout in northern Metro Manila P2P buses, we’re catering now to commuters down south. The RRCG Transport P2P bus service is a welcome option for commuters from the south. We are pleased that riders can use the multi-purpose beep™ card to pay for their fares,” said Peter Maher, President and CEO of AF Payments Inc.

The RRCG Transport premium P2P service aims to provide a more convenient and reliable transportation system to residents of southern Metro Manila. These buses provide free Wi-Fi to passengers and are equipped with CCTV cameras for additional security. Compartments underneath have provisions for storing bikes, wheelchairs, and other equipment.

The P2P bus service system was created by the Department of Transportation (DOTr) to help improve traffic as the buses travel nonstop from the terminal to the drop-off point. It also aims to ease commuter woes by cutting travel time compared to normal multi-stop buses. The P2P system currently has routes from Trinoma-Makati and Ortigas-Makati. More P2P routes will be added in the next few months.

The beep™ card is a tap-and-go payment system accepted in all three elevated railways (LRT 1, LRT 2, and MRT 3), select bus lines and at the Cavite Expressway (CAVITEX). It can be purchased for P20, is reloadable and valid for four years. Offsite reloading partners are also now available. More information about beep™ may be obtained at the website and on Facebook (beep card) and Twitter (@beep_card).

It's #NowNation as PayMaya empowers the Filipino millennials

The Rise of #NowNation. PayMaya launched today its new campaign #NowNation to empower the Filipino millennials to seize the day, pursue their passions and live in the here and now.

PayMaya Philippines (formerly Smart e-Money, Inc), the financial services arm of Smart and PLDT, launches today #NowNation, a campaign that aims to inspire and enable the millennials to seize the day and pursue their passions be it in sports, music, fashion, gaming, and travel.

With the rise of digital, there is no better time for the millennials to be whoever they want to be and do the things they have always wanted. However, the challenge of financial inclusion in the country hinders the unbanked (69% of the population have no bank accounts) and the uncarded (only 7 million Filipinos have credit cards) to access financial and digital services.

For instance, the lack of a credit card disables potential travellers to book flights every time they spot a seat sale. With PayMaya, by simply downloading the app on Google Play or App Store, users get an instant virtual Visa card that they can use to book flights whenever, wherever they are.
“We are thrilled to launch PayMaya’s #NowNation campaign to signify our commitment in empowering millennials to pursue their passions and the endless possibilities that come with being part of this generation. Now is the time to travel and get out of your comfort zone, to find new places to eat with people you love, and to game up your style to express yourself and be who you truly are. This is what #NowNation is all about, and it is living in the moment with PayMaya that we can unlock a life brimming with experiences,” said Paolo Azzola, Managing Director and co-COO of PayMaya Philippines.
Joining the #NowNation are PayMaya’s newest brand ambassadors who have persisted in what they love to do every day, in the here and now: Alyssa Valdez, the heart-strong Volleyball player we all love; Camille Co, a young fashion designer and style blogger; Seph Cham, an up-and-coming men’s fashion and lifestyle guru; Chichi Tullao, the food stylist behind the delectable Happy Tummy Travels; DJ Carlo Atendido, the first FIlipino to win the Red Bull Thre3style World DJ Championships in 2015; Jonas Roque, the popular travel with hugot blogger behind Wandering Weekend Warriors; finally, Team Mineski, the professional Philippine DoTA team who most recently represented the Philippines in the international Manila Majors DoTA tournament.

(L-R) Paolo Azzola, Managing Director and co-COO of PayMaya Philippines; Ram Cortez, PayMaya's Student Ambassador; Carlo Atendido, DJ Champion; Seph Cham, Lifestyle Guru; Camille Co, Style Maven; Orlando Vea, President and CEO of Voyager Innovations; Chichi Tullao, Foodie Extraordinaire; Alyssa Valdez, Phenom of Philippine Volleyball; Jonas Roque, Weekend Wandering Warrior; and Benjie Fernandez, co-COO of PayMaya Philippines and COO of Voyager Innovations.

With the #NowNation ambassadors, PayMaya hopes to inspire young millennials to go beyond dreaming and start living.

“Aside from discipline, sports has taught me so much about resiliency and I guess this is the best piece of advice I can give. In pursuing your passion, don’t get disappointed with failures in the beginning as the start is always the hardest. You will realize later on that the best decision you ever made is when you told yourself to get up and continue the game during tough times,” said Alyssa Valdez.

She continued, “However, to keep playing the game, it is important to have a balance between work and play. When I am not playing volleyball or training, I spend some time looking for deals online I can surprise my family with. I’m glad that my PayMaya app is so easy and convenient to use that I can shop and pay online without leaving my seat.”

Aside from providing the financial tools needed to enjoy the things they want and gain meaningful experiences, PayMaya also keeps innovating for its users.

Only with PayMaya

PayMaya is the only payment app and prepaid card accepted on Uber. Recently, PayMaya and Uber entered a unique partnership enabling PayMaya users to link their app or their card to their Uber app to hail a safe and convenient Uber ride. To celebrate this alliance and give users an additional treat, the partnership came with a promo[1] where users who download and use Uber for the first time get 50% off on their first Uber ride until July 10, 2016 by just using the promo code PAYMAYAxUBER.

In addition to its “Send Money” feature which allows users to send money to anyone with a PayMaya app, they can now also send and pick up funds at any Smart Padala Center, which has more branches than banks and pawnshops combined. Soon, users will also be able to pay their bills and government services like SSS via the app. This way, PayMaya makes payments easy and convenient for living in the now, be it for having fun or for meeting our day-to-day needs.

The economic power of the millennials

In the next decade, the millennials will be the largest living generation in the Philippines—and their numbers and lifestyle will drive the country’s prosperity. By addressing this frontier market segment, PayMaya helps build an important backbone of the Philippine economy.

The economy is estimated to grow by 7% to 8% within the decade on the back of its young population. Right now, most Filipinos are young and able to work—a favorable demographic where an increase in the number of working adults with bigger purchasing power will mean greater domestic demand and higher economic growth.

The spending habit of the millennial generation bodes well for the Philippines where private consumption accounts for 70% of its gross domestic product (GDP) as per 2015 data from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA)[2]. Retail trade, for instance, grew by 7% from 2014 to 2015; it’s now a half-a-trillion business[3].

This growing consumption is driven in part by rising incomes of millennials. For instance, families whose family head is a millennial are earning more than counterparts in the last decade[3]. In 2012, 2.4 million families with a family head aged 25 to 34 had a total of P447.9 billion in income. A decade earlier, 3.3 million families with a family head aged 25-34 earned P375.4 billion in total.

The top transactions on PayMaya from May 1 to June 13, 2016 based on transaction count are:

(1) Google
(2) PayPal
(3) iTunes
(4) Uber
(5) Spotify
(6) Valve
(7) Steamgames
(8) Facebook
(9) GrabTaxi, and
(10) Lazada.

Filipinos are also splurging on travel and lodging—services that were once exclusive to the banked and carded segments of the society.
