A Gathering of Icons - "The Legends and The Classics"

An unforgettable gathering of three iconic Filipino artists — Lea Salonga, Cecile Licad and Lisa Macuja – together for the first time on one stage, one concert! “The Legends and the Classics” brings together this incomparable triumvirate for an enchanted evening of song, music and dance at 8 pm on March 17 (Saturday) and 6 pm on March 18 (Sunday) at the Main Theater of the Cultural Center of the Philippines.

“The Legends and the Classics” brings together the outstanding talent and impeccable showmanship of three remarkable Filipinas who have shone brightly on the international stage and brought home countless accolades for their country. Each of them represents a lifelong dedication to the arts – whether in theater, music or ballet – where success is forged only through long years of training, unwavering commitment and an ironclad will in pursuit of excellence.

Multi-awarded thespian and singer Lea Salonga, who began her career in musical theater at the age of seven, took the West End and Broadway by storm with her unparalleled success in major productions of “Miss Saigon” and “Les Miserables”.  A certified child prodigy, concert pianist Cecile Licad made her debut with a full orchestra also at age seven, launched her international career as a piano virtuoso by being the youngest gold medalist at the prestigious Leventritt Competition. Meanwhile, prima ballerina Lisa Macuja learned her first ballet steps at eight and went on to become a soloist of the legendary Kirov Ballet when she was barely out of her teens. From these early successes, all three women artists continued to excel and to evolve — from ingénue to icon… to legend!

This dream concert will have the three artists dishing out several of their signature pieces – Lea with her lovely serenade of unforgettable Broadway and movie themes; dramatic solos from Chopin and Rachmaninoff on the ivory keys by Cecile; and Lisa’s breathtaking leaps and turns from ballet classics, to name a few. But the pièce de résistance promises to be their combined performances, the likes of which never before seen on Philippine stage, all in one evening you wish would last forever!

Joining the trio of muses are Gerard Salonga & FILharmoniKA, Ballet Manila, and cellist Wilfredo Pasamba. Musical director is Gerard Salonga, while Roxanne Lapus is stage director.

“The Legends and the Classics” is presented by Ballet Manila and Manila Broadcasting Company. Supported by Lifestyle Network, Sofitel Philippine Plaza, and Ayala Land Premiere.  Special thanks to McDonald’s Philippines.

Tickets are now available at all TicketWorld outlets. For details, check out www.ticketworld.com.ph or call 891-9999.

CHARICE’S NEW LOOK : NEW HAIR, NEW TATTOO

Charice has shows her “real” side with the new look.
“For me, just love me. I‘m a person. If you think I‘m a boy or a girl or if I look like a boy, then fine. I‘m Charice.”
She explains why she changes her good girl image into a more edgy look. She basically chopped her hair off, colored it light brown, then got a new tattoo that said “Love Eternally” with the infinity symbol in between.
"The tattoo that I have has a meaning. The tattoo says 'love eternally' and it has an infinity sign. It's for my love for people, for my fans and for my family, for everybody. So, every time I do something I always have reason," Charice said at a press conference.

Her tattoo was inked in Singapore where she had a concert last March 5.

“Yung ibang people sa management, gusto nila yung look ko parang Selena Gomez. The other one, they want me to be more like Avril Lavigne, which is what I like. Or more like Rihanna. That’s what I like. That’s what we’re trying to do. I thinkeverybody’s shocked. This is such a huge step for me and I love it. This is me. This is who I am. I just don’t want to stay a person that I don’t like… I’ve been thinking about it for years and years. This is a dream come true for me, Charice said.

Charice with long hair  covers the Preview Magazine January - February 2012 issue . Now with her boyish hair and tattoo,  some critics are out once again saying that she looks like a lesbian and even compared her new look to Aiza Seguerra, a Filipina singer who is openly lesbian.
“Are you kidding me? I’ve read tons of negative comments and I don’t care. Whatever they think maybe if I look somebody or whoever I don’t mind. I mean this is the look that I want. So, the only thing you can do is to move on.”

80’s New Wave Icon , Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark (OMD)  To Perform “If You Leave” and Other Big Hits Live in Manila!
Summary:  80s New Wave Hitmaker all set for their one night concert in Manila
“If You Leave” was one of the anthemic monster hits of the 80’s decade.  Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark  a.k.a. OMD, lorded over radio charts worldwide, and their hits pervaded over the playlists of disco-mobile parties.  “Secret”, “So In Love”, “Dreaming”, “Enola Gay”, and a whole lot more, solidified their iconic status in the age of synth-pop and new wave music.
The original frontmen of OMD –Andy McCluskey and Paul Humphreys, and their original band members Martin Cooper and Malcolm Holmes, are set to hit Manila for a one-night only concert on March 12, 2012, 8:00pm at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.  Billed as the “History of Modern” concert tour,  OMD is raring to hit the live concert stage and dish out their classic and influential hit songs to delight their Filipino fans and create a big dance party to celebrate a decade marked by hairsprayhair gels, shoulder pads, neon colors, strobe lights, and above all, great music!
OMD’s ‘History of the Modern’ tour marks the release of their 11th studio album, raved by critics and selling briskly in Europe, reaching #28 in the UK album charts.   OMD regrouped way back in 2007 and started touring the world and played successful sold-out concerts.  Since then, they’ve been recording and touring non-stop.  Their first US tour in March 2011, which took place 23 years after their last US gig in 1988, was a rousing success thus, they pursued on embarking on this Asian leg.
OMD’s music and career now spans 33 years, yet their music simply refuses to fade.  Their influence can be strongly felt in the style and sound of modern bands like The Killers, The XX, The LCD Sound System, and Glasvegas.  The brooding vocals, the heavy synths, are obvious stark references to OMD’s synthpop-new wave signature sound.
“If You Leave”, “Secret”, “Enola Gay”, “So In Love”, “Dreaming”  — classic songs that are all worth hearing and experiencing live!  They not only bring back great 80’s memories, it’s a generation celebrating the joys of youth  and a passion for life.
