"Mulan", a pre-X’mas show set on December 14 and 19

Kids Acts Philippines proudly presents “MULAN” with script and lyrics by Luigi Nacario and music by Eugene Belbis.
"Mulan's" special pre-X’mas offering to all schools, parents and children, set on December 14 (Saturday) at the Subic Bay Exhibition and Convention Center at 10am & 2pm, Efficiency St., Subic Bay Gateway Park.

And for those living in Metro Manila, there will be a show on December 19 at 3:00 PM, ST. CECILIA’S HALL, St. Scholastica’s College, Manila City

The story of Mulan, a popular Chinese heroine, comes from an old Chinese folktale entitled “The Ballad of Mulan”.

Originally a poem – Hua Mulan’s story has been adapted into a number of different versions over the years.
Fearless and determined, Mulan’s story starts out as China is facing the threat of the Huns. The Emperor seeks out the help of the men of different families to fight in battle. Former military man and Mulan’s father is among those chosen.

Too old and sick to participate but also too honourable to walk away from the duty. Mulan’s father and his family are faced with the dilemna of being unable to send someone in his place. Without a male member who is old enough to fight, Mulan steps forward to serve in the army in his place.

This version of Mulan’s tale, unlike the other popular versions, shows the perspective of her siblings. It also shows that her parents have given her their blessings to do what she must. Mulan will then take appropriate measures to prepare for battle.

The story unfolds around her buying the necessary equipment she will need before setting out. It also exhibits the different seasons she goes through during the course of the war. When Mulan comes home, she amazes everyone with the fact that she is indeed a woman.

A story of family, sacrifice and courage rooted in the rich culture and tradition of China – the production of “ MULAN ” is certainly a treat that all families will enjoy.

The cast of “ MULAN ” features Gian Gloria, Mary Anne Plamenio, Agnes Sarreal, Ces Dela Cruz, Hyacinth Leonado, Angel Yu, Shanelle Comia, Zscharmaine Barretto, Derrick Gozos, Terence Guillermo, Jose Herrera, Noel Comia, Kendrick Ibasco, Rupert Alvarez, Michael Fernandez, Dusty Suarez, VJ Parreno and Denzel Guiao.

DepEd receives Samsung tablets for recovery of school documents damaged by Yolanda

The policy of the Department of Education (DepEd) with regard to disasters is the immediate resumption of classes as soon as it is safe and there are learning spaces available. But tents and teachers are not the only things needed to resume normal schooling.

Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) donated 40 Samsung tablets to DepEd., during the turnover ceremony last 29th of November, 2013 (Friday). The delegation was headed by Her Excellency Ambassador Hatice Pinar Isik, the foremost official of the Turkish Mission to the Philippines. This effort was made to help the Department, as well as regional and division offices in recovering what was left of the documents in the schools ravaged by super typhoon Yolanda.

“Restoring and preserving records is just as important as providing education. The most affected group here are graduating students,” explained Assistant Secretary Reynaldo D. Laguda, emphasizing on the urgency needed to restore as much school records as possible.

With these 40 tablets on hand, the department would be able to ensure the proper documentation of school records which were soaked, soiled, or totally destroyed. This project also ensures the longevity of school documents from being further damaged by such calamities.

The said effort has four major phases to ensure an organized filing of the salvaged documents. It starts with the deployment of division-assigned personnel for the capturing of documents, with the use of the tablets, in the affected schools. The data would then be off-loaded to the home divisions for proper reviewing and renaming of the files. Once the files have been recorded and accounted for, they will be distributed back to the individual schools for their own record keeping. Once the system is in place, it will then be replicated for the schools and other division offices as disaster risk mitigating initiative.

“By next week, we will be bringing these (tablets) to Leyte and Samar,” Laguda adds. “This assistance from TIKA would surely help speed up the process in bringing back normalcy to the students’ school calendar and would eventually sustain our schools in the prevention of the same problem in file storage for similar disasters in the future.”

Status Hair Salon  launched their "Beauty for a Cause" campaign. From Nov. 26 to December 15, 2013, 20% income from the sales during the period will be donated to the victims of Typhoon Yolanda.

Last November 26, I was invited to join their epecial event titled STATUS SALON TRANSFORMATION TUESDAY held at their branch - LG, North East Building Connecticut St. Greenhills, San Juan City.

My friend, Kitty Lanto of Abs-Cbn's CinemaOne TV, asked me to choose the services I want to avail: haircolor, highlights, hair treatments, nail services.

I'm super excited. Foremost, I want to transform my hair and last month ago, I tried and had  a hard time doing my own coloring hair. So here, gladly and excitingly, I really sad yes to an invitation to transform my hair.

I got my hair done by Jerry and friendly staff. Status Salon Creative Director Nikki Bacay supervised the whole hair coloring and style. First, they had to bleach my hair, as I said, I had colored it black in the past week.

"Don't limit yourself to one shade. The season's best new hair colors are multi-tonal—think sun-kissed blonde with deeper honey undertones, hazelnut brown spun with fine streaks of gold and copper enhanced with dark woody layers. The look is highly individualized, in keeping with fall's runway themes, and makes for hair that's rich and uniquely chic." - By Kari Molvar
