DepEd provides 184 SHS with IT equipment to support K to 12 implementation

The Department of Education (DepEd) is set to deliver information technology (IT) equipment to stand-alone Senior High Schools (SHS) nationwide to support the implementation of the K to12 Program.

Education Secretary Br. Armin A. Luistro FSC said, “What we need is to bring technology into the classroom and not be fully dependent on a textbook or the teacher. Computers will never replace teachers. Technology should allow teachers to spend more time to those who need it more.”

Each Senior High School will receive an IT equipment package which consists of 7 host personal computers (PCs), 42 terminals, 2 laptops, 2 projectors, 7 uninterruptible power supplies, 7 automatic voltage regulators and other network accessories.

In line with this, DepEd has conducted a demonstration on installation and configuration of the actual IT equipment at Pateros National High School. The event was attended by Education Secretary Br. Armin A. Luistro FSC and UNDP Country Director Mr. Titon Mitra.

 

“What you are seeing are digitized modules for grade 11. I’ve always dreamt that our schools should not be textbook dependent,” Luistro added.

DepEd partnered with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to procure and deliver the IT equipment package for the schools. With its global experience and track record in co-implementing programs with governments, including implementation of Government projects using Government funds, UNDP delivers the highest standards of transparency and achieves cost efficiency and timely delivery of project outputs through more flexible procurement procedures. 

“What you’re seeing now is the fastest procurement of IT packages in a government agency. UNDP came to us as an answer to our prayer,” Luistro said.

This partnership enables DepEd to have access to its global network of service providers and experts and use available corporate and regional long-term framework agreements, which can facilitate and shorten the procurement process. 

With just 3 months of procurement, UNDP was able to award contracts for the provision of 184 ICT packages to SHS stand-alone schools within the budget provided by DepEd.

 

DepEd has started the roll out of SHS nationwide beginning with Grade 11 this school year and Grade 12 next year to complete the 12-year basic education cycle under the K to 12 Program.

Some 11, 000 public and private senior high schools nationwide opened their doors to the pioneering batch of Grade 11 students.

Intuitive and comfortable operation

GROHE Rainshower^® SmartControl uses a very straightforward and easily understood triple button design which allows to control and memorize all desired shower settings. A combined push-and-turn button starts the flow of water and controls its flow volume. Its knurled surface means that the button can easily be turned even with wet fingers. To stop the flow of water, the user simply pushes the button again; the chosen flow rate setting remains memorized for the next time. 

The spray jet type can also be directly selected by pressing the push button, meaning adjusting the jet disc is no longer necessary. Blending several spray patterns – for example the gentle GROHE PureRain spray and the stimulating TrioMassage setting – is easy as well. The TrioMassage spray combines the action of two massaging spray nozzles with the dynamic GROHE Bokoma spray. Switching between the head and hand shower is just as simple by pushing the respective button. All controls are marked with self-explanatory symbols for intuitive operation, making this innovative shower system a joy to use.

The new flexibility in the shower sector

To create the ultimate shower experience, the system combines a GROHE Rainshower^® 360 DUO head shower with a GROHE Power&Soul^® hand shower. Measuring 360 by 220 millimetres, the lozenge-shaped head shower is a perfect match for the organically flowing lines of the control unit. A metal shower face completes the sophisticated look.

GROHE Rainshower^® SmartControl will shortly also be available as a MONO variant. While basically using the same water control technology as the DUO version, this model will feature only two buttons, given that the head shower will exclusively deliver the gentle GROHE PureRain spray pattern.

Proven GROHE technologies for safe showering

The GROHE Rainshower^® SmartControl shower system is equipped with GROHE TurboStat^® technology. A metal thermostat handle allows to set and adjust the water temperature. The preferred temperature is reached within fractions of a second and will be kept constant even in case of fluctuating water pressure in the pipes. A SafeStop button prevents users from inadvertently raising the water temperature to more than 38 degrees. In addition, the proven CoolTouch^® technology removes the risk of scalding by preventing the exposed metal surfaces from heating up.

BGC Bus Now Accepts beep™ cards

BGC Bus and AF Payments Inc. have announced that BGC Buses are now using the beep™ card system on limited public trial. Commuters who have a beep™ card may already use them to pay for their BGC Bus rides. Fare remains at P12 per ride.

“We are pleased to partner with BGC Bus as this will move us closer to our goal of making the beep™ card an all-in-one card for commuters in Metro Manila. BGC Buses serve thousands of commuters daily and our goal is to be able to provide them with a reliable and efficient payment system, especially those who hop from the MRT or the LRT to the bus,” said Peter Maher, CEO and President of AF Payments Inc.

“BGC Bus commuters can conveniently purchase and load their beep™ cards in the Ayala and Market Market Terminal. This is in addition to selected Bayad Center, Tambunting, Villarica and SM Bills Payment Counter locations, which also offer re-loading services for beep™ cards. There are also plans to add more loading locations in the coming months, including leading convenience stores,” added Maher.
