Beautiful Stories of CHERRY Warriors : Stories of Courage and Inspiration

For years, October has been widely observed as Breast Cancer Awareness Month. It has been creating massive consciousness on the disease that affects millions of people around the globe.

As per the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), since the 1980s, breast cancer has been the leading type of the disease affecting the country’s female population, with 16 out of 100 women to be potentially diagnosed. According to World Health Organization (2023), breast cancer is also now reportedly the most common form of cancer in the world that caused 685,000 deaths globally in 2020.

CHERRY joins in this campaign to help spread awareness on breast cancer and the importance of early detection. It also aims to share inspiring message of the organization’s very own Pink Warriors— Ginalyn Tan, VP for Finance; Agnes Conopio, PR and CSR Head; and Sheree Maagma, Senior HR Officer. They all won the battle against breast cancer. It was a fight they overcame with their families, close friends, church mate and co-workers’ strong and reliable support.

Furthermore, one that significantly had a huge help during their challenging time is The Magna Carta of Women (MCW). MCW is a comprehensive law on women's human rights that aims to end discrimination by recognizing, defending, upholding, and promoting the rights of Filipino women. This includes the entitlement of those who have undergone gynecology-related surgeries of up to 60 days of paid leave.

This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the inspiring message of the three pink women warriors of CHERRY only punctuate that breast cancer is a fight that must be faced with courage and full of hope. This is where CHERRY underscores the importance of consistent check-up, regular breast self-examination, as well as of annual mammogram because early detection is your best protection.

For years, this is one of the advocacies that CHERRY has been in the forefront of magnifying. CHERRY believes that raising awareness on breast cancer is not to be carried out only by individuals but should extend to the society as a whole.

CitySavings ramps up disaster preparedness program for the public education sector

City Savings Bank (CitySavings), the thrift arm subsidiary of the Aboitiz-led Union Bank of the Philippines (UnionBank)  leveled up its advocacy for disaster preparedness for the communities it serves through its Disaster Risk and Reduction (DRR) 101 Program. This program ensures beneficiaries of public schools in the Philippines have the proper equipment to help them prepare for possible disasters or calamities in the future.

DISASTER PREPAREDNESS IN SCHOOLS: Together with the Aboitiz Foundation, City Savings Bank (CitySavings) has donated emergency and medical equipment to 16 School Division Offices (SDOs) and conducted 106 Weather and Tropical Cyclone 101 Training sessions nationwide since 2015. This is the Bank’s commitment to help create a better and safer learning environment to improve the country’s public education system.

In the aftermath of disasters and calamities, one of the most vulnerable sectors in the country is the education sector. In 2022, the Department of Education (DepEd) declared they needed around PhP 18 million to repair, rehabilitate, and reconstruct schools damaged during disasters and calamities that hit the country.

Together with the Aboitiz Foundation, the corporate social responsibility arm of the Aboitiz Group, CitySavings has conducted 106 Weather and Tropical Cyclone 101 Training sessions nationwide since 2015. This impact program aims to strengthen educators’ capability on disaster preparedness through basic weather knowledge, empower them to prepare and protect their communities and create their own disaster preparedness programs to reduce the impact of weather-related disasters.

Through its DRR 101 program completed this 2023, CitySavings has donated emergency and medical equipment to 16 School Division Offices (SDOs) addressing not just the issue of disaster, but also the SDOs’ call for help in alleviating the impact of the global pandemic. Donating to disaster preparedness means investing in systems that will allow the schools to deploy staff and resources quickly and effectively once a disaster strikes.

DRR 101 contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 11: Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable. DRR is an integral part of social and economic development. The program is also part of CitySavings’ commitment to creating a better and safer learning environment to improve the country’s public education system.

Teleperformance named as one of the Best Workplaces in Asia

Teleperformance (TP), a multi-awarded and leading digital business services company, has been named as one of the Best Workplaces in Asia™ in 2023 by the Great Place to Work®(GPTW) institute.

The company ranked 11th among 30 multinational enterprises spanning various industries. Teleperformance also stood as the second-best performer in the professional services category and earned a place among the “elite group of progressive employers in Asia” in the GPTW®-curated list.

The GPTW® researchers assessed Teleperformance by surveying over 90,000 employees across Asia. These employees were asked to evaluate key factors that make a company a great workplace for all, including workplace safety, gender fairness, diversity, and inclusivity.

The results showed that 91% of employees believe Teleperformance is a physically safe place to work. In addition, 87% of employees agreed that Teleperformance fosters a gender-fair environment, while 86% recognized the organization’s efforts to ensure inclusivity within the workplace.
