In a groundbreaking move reinforcing RLC Residences’ commitment to sustainability, The Residences at The Westin Manila has fully transitioned to 100% renewable energy. Completed on December 26, 2024, this milestone makes it the first RLC Residences property to integrate renewable energy under the Department of Energy’s Green Energy Option Program (GEOP).

“We at RLC Residences are truly grateful to reach this milestone. Switching to renewable energy benefits both the environment and our homeowners, translating to energy cost savings of about 8-10% for residents. It’s a win-win for us, our clients, and the planet,” said Chad Sotelo, RLC Residences’ Senior Vice President - Business Unit General Manager and Robinsons Land’s Chief Marketing Officer.

This shift, in partnership with ACEN Renewable Energy Solutions (ACEN RES), marks RLC Residences’ pilot project under GEOP - a voluntary program under the Renewable Energy Act of 2008. This initiative allows qualified end-users to choose renewable energy as their power source, reducing reliance on depleting natural resources like coal and petroleum, lessening carbon emissions, and potentially lowering utility costs.

“The Residences at The Westin Manila is the first of many - which is part of our commitment to deliver 1 million sqm. of net zero condominiums to the International Finance Corporation (IFC) by 2031. Currently, seven more developments are transitioning to renewable energy, with completion expected in the first half of the year. Twenty more to be initiated to switch within the next two years,” adds Sotelo.

ACEN RES estimates that once 28 RLC Residences projects complete their transition, 344,281 kilograms of CO2 emissions will be reduced annually.

In 2024, RLC Residences partnered with IFC to commit one million square meters (GFA) of net zero carbon and resilient condominiums by 2031. The collaboration focuses on identifying, evaluating, and implementing green building measures using Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies (EDGE) certification and verifying resilience ratings through IFC’s Building Resilience Index (BRI) tool.

Released just in time for Valentine’s Day, the band’s cover brings a modern twist to the iconic track while preserving the original’s emotional essence.

The remake of “Close To You” features subtle upgrades and embellishments from their usual live version.

Clem Castro, the lead vocalist and guitarist of the band, recalls the origins of the cover, which dates back to 1999 when the Bulacan-based band was preparing the material for their debut album, Love In the Land of Rubber Shoes & Dirty Ice Cream. He explains, “I was inspired to create a cover version for live gigs and challenged ourselves to integrate our own sound. It has been a staple since then on our set list. On top of that, I am a huge fan of Burt Bacharach.”

According to Clem, one of the major distinctions from the original version is the absence of the transposition, which sets this cover apart from others. The band reinterprets “Close To You” with keyboard elements that elevate the track’s melodic appeal.

“The guitar solo rolling bass lines, and drum pattern is definitely O&L,” Clem adds. “The build up at the end was eargasm for us. It is safe to say, this is infinitely different from any version you can find on streaming sites.”

In addition to the release of “Close To You,” the Hanggang Kailan chart-toppers are gearing up for an international tour. The band will visit five cities across Asia and North America, bringing their beloved hits, fresh tracks, and rarities to fans worldwide.
