Restoring dignity in borrowing: Fuse Financing on breaking credit barriers for small businesses at AgriVerse 2025

Fuse Financing, Inc., the lending arm of GCash, led a discussion on fair borrowing options for Filipino micro-retailers and agri-entrepreneurs at the recently concluded Agriverse Summit 2025 held in Pasay City. The event brought together agripreneurs, government officials, innovators, and small business owners to explore how technology can support business growth, boost agricultural productivity, and promote sustainable farming.

L-R) PARJV Grosolutions co-founder and Pamantasan ng Cabuyao VP planning, research and extension Dr. Jessica Domingo Rey; GCash VP and head of corporate communications and public affairs Gilda Maquilan; Philippine Association of Stores and Carinderia Owners founding and national president Ms. Elilyn S. Gadia; Fuse Financing Inc. chief product officer and strategy head Baby Aquino; and ASBF Philippines founding trustee and president Ms. Arlene Padua-Martinez

Organized by the Asia Small Business Federation (ASBF) and Philippine Association of Stores and Cardinderia Owners (PASCO), Fuse Financing chief product officer and strategy head Baby Aquino highlighted the company's commitment to restoring dignity and fairness to borrowing for the Filipino micro-retail and agricultural sector.

In a fireside chat "Digital Wallets, Local Markets: Unlocking Growth for Micro-Retail and Agribusiness," Aquino also shared how Fuse is redefining access to finance through digital technology. The company replaces exploitative informal lending with fast, fair, and transparent credit products that can be accessed real time, anytime, anywhere, through a mobile phone via your GCash e-wallet.

Fuse’s innovation lies in its end-to-end digital process. By using data-driven credit assessment and digital collection tools, the lender removes the need for physical documents or in-person applications. This allows MSMEs to access funds within minutes, validating what Aquino describes as "true empowerment."

As of the second quarter of 2025, Fuse has extended credit to 9.5 million Filipinos and disbursed P287 billion in loans. Fuse is able to extend credit to segments underserved by traditional institutions such as MSMEs and women, with one in three are small business owners and three in five borrowers are women while four out of five are from the masses (SEC C2DE), underscoring the company’s wide reach and deep impact on inclusion.

The lender’s suite of products is designed to meet the different financing needs of small entrepreneurs. GLoan offers larger cash loans for business owners of up to P350,000, to support their business capital and growth, while GLoan Sakto, a sachet-type loan, enables eligible customers to borrow for as low as Php 100- an ideal option for the regular customers or the “sukis” of sari-sari stores, instead of them constantly borrowing from sari-sari store owners. This also relieves them of the hassle of collecting those small loans owners. Often used as “pambale,” borrowing even as small as P100 can give customers who were traditionally sidelined by formal credit institutions, an opportunity to build a formal credit history. This approach helps everyday Filipinos transition from informal borrowing toward long-term, sustainable growth.

Aquino emphasized that Fuse’s mission is to make formal lending accessible to every Filipino entrepreneur. "’Yung philosophy kasi talaga ng GCash is to allow Filipinos to borrow with dignity. Dapat ‘yong mga produkto namin ay klaro, fair, and transparent. (GCash operates on a philosophy that aims to allow Filipinos to borrow with dignity. Our products are clear, fair, [and] transparent),” she said.

Aquino concluded that the future of small businesses in the Philippines, especially in the agri-tech sector, depends on three essentials: access to finance, access to markets, and access to technology. Through digital innovation, Fuse and GCash aim to make these opportunities available to every Filipino entrepreneur.

Security Bank Foundation builds hope with new classrooms in Gapan City

Security Bank Foundation, Inc. (SBFI) turned over a newly constructed two-storey, six-classroom school building to Gapan East Integrated School (GEIS) in Nueva Ecija, marking another milestone in its flagship program “Build a School, Build a Nation: The Classrooms Project.”

Ribbon-cutting ceremony for the newly constructed Gapan East Integrated School building led by (from left) Ronalyn Velilia, Gapan Branch Business Manager; Maureen Grace Banalagay, Bulacan/Nueva Ecija Branch Banking Group Area Head; Melissa Aquino, SBFI Trustee; Rafael F. Simpao, Jr., SBFI Chairman; Hon. Emary Joy D. Pascual, Mayor of Gapan City; Dr. Enrique E. Angeles, Jr., Schools Division Superintendent; Hon. Paul Michael Amparado, Barangay Captain of San Vicente, Gapan; and Julita Aguilar, Principal of Gapan East Integrated School

The donation helps ease GEIS’s classroom shortage, giving over 1,200 students and teachers a more conducive space to learn, grow, and dream. Despite limited resources, GEIS has consistently excelled—scoring above the national average in problem-solving, information literacy, and critical thinking during the 2023–2024 National Achievement Test, even outperforming more than 90% of Metro Manila schools.

“Some of us may feel that the task of addressing the problems of education in our country is so overwhelming that the efforts we are exerting would hardly make a difference. But I do not agree because I believe in the power of persistent cumulative influence.”, said SBFI Chairman Rafael F. Simpao, Jr.

“Sanay po kami na ang LGU ang nagbibigay. Napakasarap po palang mabigyan at maalala. Mahiyain po kami kaya kami na bahala sa repair,” said Hon. Emary Joy D. Pascual, Gapan City Mayor.

“Sa pagtanggap ng gusaling ito, pangako naming pupunuin ang bawat silid ng mga kwento ng inspirasyon, pag-asa, at pagmamahal, mga kwentong huhubog sa mga kabataang magiging pag-asa at pagbabago ng ating bayan,” said Dr. Enrique E. Angeles, Jr., CESO VI, Schools Division Superintendent of Gapan City, adding that the new building symbolizes the shared hope and commitment to education of the city and Security Bank Foundation.

Beyond classrooms, Security Bank Foundation also invests in educator development through partnerships such as with Ateneo de Manila University and De La Salle Philippines, offering programs such as the Principals’ Training Program. One former GEIS Assistant Principal—now leading Lupang Pangarap Elementary School—is currently enrolled in this initiative.

To date, SBFI has donated 851 classrooms to 146 schools across 87 cities and municipalities nationwide—each one a testament to its belief that nation-building begins with a single classroom.

Christian Bautista and Raisa turn ordinary moments into something extraordinary in “Rainbow” music video

The two beloved artists turn quiet moments into symbols of joy and connection in a heartfelt visual narrative

Even the simplest moments in life can carry the deepest meaning if we take the time to notice them.

This realization lies at the heart of “Rainbow,” the latest single featuring Asia’s Romantic Balladeer Christian Bautista and Indonesian pop icon Raisa, whose newly released music video paints a tender portrait of hope, connection, and the beauty of the ordinary.

Filmed in an idyllic café in Jakarta, the visual narrative unfolds with both artists savoring a quiet reprieve from the bustling chaos of modern city life.

“The video is about how the simplest, most ordinary moments in our day can actually become the ‘rainbows’ we need — small sparks of hope that make a big difference,” shares Christian Bautista. “The music video was directed by Jonathan Tal Placido of Toothless Productions. He and his team flew to Jakarta to make this vision come alive, and they captured that message beautifully.”

Delicately crafted, the music video mirrors the song’s lyrical warmth with cinematic grace. Every frame invites viewers to rediscover fulfillment hidden within everyday experiences: coffee shared between friends, laughter exchanged across a table, and the peace found in simply being present.

Beyond its narrative, “Rainbow” also celebrates harmony between cultures. The collaboration between Christian Bautista and Raisa bridges Filipino and Indonesian artistry, and the choice to film in Jakarta infuses the visuals with an authentic sense of place and emotional truth.

“The city added warmth, texture, and authenticity to the visuals and helped us reflect the connection the song celebrates,” he explains.

Christian and Raisa first worked together in a recent 13-city ASEAN concert in Japan for more than a month, where they got to share the stage as fellow performers. Their chemistry in the project both as performers and friends translates effortlessly on screen, adding sincerity to the music video’s heartwarming storytelling.

“It was so exciting,” Bautista adds of working with Raisa once more. “Our biggest challenge was really scheduling — but once it finally happened, we were both thrilled to bring this project to life. Seeing it all come together after months of planning was such a rewarding moment.”

The “Rainbow” MV is a celebration of everyday beauty and the unspoken bonds that unite people across borders. Through this collaboration, Christian Bautista and Raisa reminds listeners that joy doesn’t aways come from the grand or extraordinary; it often shines brightest in the smallest details of our days.

Rainbow” by Christian Bautista and Raisa is now available on all major streaming platforms worldwide via Sony Music Entertainment. Watch the music video on Christian Bautista’s here.

IV OF SPADES returns in full force with sophomore album, Andalucia

Forged in friendship and fueled by freedom, the album reflects their evolution from breakout stars to generational rock icons

Filipino pop-rock powerhouse IV OF SPADES marks their long-awaited comeback with the release of their sophomore album, Andalucia, arriving on November 5, 2025, on all digital music platforms worldwide via Sony Music Entertainment.

After a six-year hiatus and seven years since their last full-length album, CLAPCLAPCLAP! (2019), the iconic quartet reunites with a record that captures the essence of friendship, artistic maturity, and rediscovered unity. Cementing their legacy as one of the defining acts of modern OPM, Andalucia reveals softness that exists in codes, articulating scenarios and moments in cryptic but poetic exquisiteness, never finding the need to explain or elaborate.

Following a surprise reunion last July through the double release of “Aura” and “Nanaman,” IV OF SPADES presents Andalucia as the full realization of their creative rebirth. “We needed to prioritize ourselves and our relationship first before working on a new project while we weren’t okay,” the multi-awarded band shares in a press statement. “It would’ve felt meaningless if we hadn’t fixed our bond before returning to making music.”

Co-produced by the Aura act with Brian Lotho and Emil Dela Rosa, Andalucia features twelve tracks that traverse genres and emotions while maintaining the band’s penchant for introspective songwriting and subtle sonic experiments. Leading the record is the explosive focus track “Monster,” a vibrant yet gritty rock anthem that fuses retro influences with modern edge. Other highlights include “Aura,” the first song the band wrote together after reuniting; “Nanaman,” featuring Blaster Silonga on vocals; “Suliranin,” an escapist anthem that invites listeners to leave their worries behind and eventually lose themselves; and “Konsensya,” a crossover tune with ‘90s alt, indie, and Britpop influences.

The chart-topping band explains, “Thematically speaking, we talk about things in life: flaws, people, and topics that often aren’t discussed openly. It’s more fun now because we have more songs. The direction is clearer, and the process is more collaborative.”

In making Andalucia, IV OF SPADES approached production with spectacle grounded in authenticity. “We wanted a sound that we could play live,” they share. “The production is ambitious, so we started by jamming the songs before recording them.”

After years apart, the band found their chemistry intact, perhaps stronger than ever. Their creative process was guided not by ego, but by intuition and respect.

Behind the music, moments of simplicity reminded them why they started making music together in the first place. “What truly matters are the small things. Eating together. Whoever’s late buys the coffee. Sometimes we’d turn off the aircon, so we’d all be sweating while recording.”

The release of Andalucia coincides with the band’s sold-out December 12, 2025, concert at the Mall of Asia Arena, with December 13 recently added due to overwhelming demand. Presented by Karpos Multimedia, these shows will feature IV OF SPADES performing new material for the first time alongside reimagined classics—a celebration of their journey and their future.
