Leading the Way: Forest Lake records historic ₱5.5 billion sales and sustains strong financial growth in 2025

Forest Lake Development Inc., the Philippines' leading memorial park developer with Total Memorial Care, achieved another milestone year in 2025 after recording a historic ₱5.5 billion in sales production—the highest in the company's nearly three-decade history and a 45% increase from the ₱3.8 billion recorded in 2024.

Built on nearly three decades of trust from Filipino families, strategic investments, operational excellence, innovation, and compassionate service, Forest Lake's record performance is a testament to the growing demand for accessible and comprehensive memorial care solutions across the country.

Beyond its financial achievements, the company proudly stays true to its promise of creating “A Better Place” for Filipino families through the expansion of its Total Memorial Care offerings, and by consistently making quality memorial services more accessible nationwide.

"2025 was a landmark year for Forest Lake. Our record-breaking ₱5.5 billion sales production, combined with strong revenue and profit growth, reflects the trust that Filipino families continue to place in our brand and the dedication of our people," said Alfred Xerez-Burgos III, President and CEO of Forest Lake Development Inc.

Forest Lake's record sales translated into equally strong financial results, reinforcing the company’s position as one of the country’s leading memorial providers. Its strong performance was reflected across key financial indicators, including revenue, profitability, liquidity, and shareholder’s equity.

Aside from the milestone ₱5.5 billion sales, total revenue likewise grew by 20% to ₱3.26 billion, up from ₱2.72 billion in 2024, continuing the company's sustained average annual revenue growth of approximately 20% since 2020–a testament to the company’s long-term business strategy and the growing trust of Filipino families nationwide.

Moreover, net income before tax also increased by 20% to ₱789 million, compared to ₱660 million a year earlier. Forest Lake also strengthened its financial position with total equity rising to ₱2.66 billion from ₱1.90 billion, while cash and cash equivalents surged by 121%, providing greater liquidity and financial flexibility to support future investments.

Further strengthening its growth trajectory, the Securities and Exchange Commission approved Forest Lake's increase in authorized capital stock from ₱1 billion to ₱4 billion, which enhances the company’s capacity to pursue new memorial park developments, expand memorial chapels and Total Memorial Care facilities, invest in technology and digital transformation initiatives, and develop innovations that improve customer experience.

Combined with the company's strong retained earnings and growing equity base, the increased capitalization provides Forest Lake with a solid financial foundation for more developments in the years ahead.

Held at PHINMA Plaza in Rockwell Center, Makati City, TOGA 2026 recognized ten outstanding educators whose work reflects the depth of Filipino teaching excellence.

Among this year’s honorees is Leticia C. Dela Cruz, a Teacher III from Navotas with 30 years of service, who continues to champion student welfare and learner rights.

In Cagayan de Oro, Ryan Capilitan Tura, a Master Teacher, serves Indigenous Peoples learners in a remote multigrade mobile school—bringing hope to students despite geographic barriers.

Meanwhile, in Isabela, Jerrypol Casil Palma, a Senior High STEM teacher, has earned national and international recognition, with his innovative PATIChem now used by schools across the country.

Completing this year’s roster are equally dedicated educators from across the country: Marie Joy Jacinto of Batac; Maureen Lou A. Aragoza of Vigan; Catalina M. Canasa of Cebu; Kim D. Grapa of Dipolog; Cesar Sucdad Martin of Benguet; Gloperlyn de Guzman Chavez of Bataan; and Ma. Cristina G. Bagas of Muntinlupa—each recognized for their commitment to advancing education and making a meaningful difference in their respective communities.

“Teachers are nation builders. In many ways, the future of our country is shaped every day in our classrooms, through educators who choose to serve with purpose,” said EastWest CEO Jerry Ngo. “At EastWest, we believe that recognizing and supporting educators is one of the most meaningful ways to strengthen families, communities, and ultimately, the future of the Philippines.

Beyond recognition, EastWest advocates for empowering teachers through financial literacy. In 2025, EastWest Rural Bank launched GuroWAIS, a financial education program tailored for Filipino educators. Covering practical topics such as income, savings, budgeting, and long-term planning, GuroWAIS has already reached hundreds of teachers nationwide, with sessions conducted in partnership with JCI Manila and local DepEd offices.

With GuroWAIS, we can help teachers build more confidence to manage today and prepare for tomorrow. And when they gain that confidence, the benefit goes beyond one person. It can reach their families, their students, and the communities they serve,” Ngo added.

Through TOGA and GuroWAIS, EastWest continues to champion educators, promote financial literacy, and invest in programs that strengthen communities.

Teaching Kids to Spot the Warning Signs Online

Every morning, parents send their children off to school with reminders to behave, and a familiar instruction: Mag-ingat ka.

Today, that reminder must extend to the digital world. Whenever children go online to study, play, watch videos, or chat with friends, they may encounter suspicious links, fake giveaways, hacked accounts, online strangers, cyberbullying, misinformation, and manipulated content.

The internet offers many opportunities to learn, create, and connect. But it can also expose children to suspicious links, fake giveaways, hacked accounts, online strangers, cyberbullying, misinformation, and manipulated content.

Just as in the physical world, parents need to ensure that children enter and engage with digital spaces that are age-appropriate and child-friendly. Before letting children go online and access apps, parents must check and enable available parental controls, privacy settings, content restrictions, and other safety features to reduce risks to children.

Teach children to spot the warning signs

Online risks do not always look dangerous at first glance.

They may appear as a message from a classmate asking for a password, an offer of free game credits, a viral video presented as fact, or a friendly stranger inviting a child to continue chatting privately.

Some messages create pressure by claiming an account will be suspended, a prize will expire, or someone needs urgent help. Others may come from fake or hacked accounts that look familiar enough to earn a child’s trust.

This is why children need more than a list of rules. They need a simple habit to use whenever something online feels unusual: Pause, Check, and Tell.

Pause before clicking or replying

Children are naturally curious, especially when a message promises free game currency, prizes, exclusive content, or access to something popular.

Teach them to pause before clicking a link, opening a file, downloading an app, replying to an unfamiliar account, or sharing information.

They should also avoid acting on messages that try to frighten, pressure, or excite them. Scammers often rely on urgency to keep people from thinking carefully.

A helpful family rule is simple: when a message says “act now,” pause and think first.

Check the person, message, and source

Children should learn that not everything online is as it seems.

A message may display the name or photo of someone they know but still come from a fake or compromised account. A video may look convincing but may have been edited or generated using artificial intelligence. A viral post may also present opinion, fiction, or incomplete information as fact.

Encourage children to ask, "Who sent this? Do I know this person in real life? Why are they asking for private information? Does the link or account look unusual? Is the information reported by a credible source? Could the photo, audio clip, or video have been altered?”

Checking does not require advanced technical knowledge. It begins with slowing down and questioning what they see.

Tell a trusted adult when something feels wrong

Children should know they can approach a parent, teacher, or trusted adult when something online makes them feel confused, pressured, threatened, embarrassed, or uncomfortable.

They should also be encouraged to speak up even if they have already clicked a suspicious link, replied to a stranger, or shared something they regret.

Fear of punishment can lead children to hide mistakes, which may give scammers, bullies, or online strangers more opportunity to continue contacting or manipulating them.

Parents can build trust by responding calmly, focusing first on the child’s safety, and solving the problem together. A child who knows they will be heard is more likely to ask for help early.

Cases or suspected cases of child abuse, exploitation, or other threats to a child’s safety may be reported to the MAKABATA Helpline 1383, the government’s national hotline for concerns involving children.

Finding support in an online village

Raising children in the digital age can feel overwhelming, especially as online threats continue to evolve.

Parents may encounter new scams, unfamiliar apps, AI-generated content, and online behaviors they did not experience growing up. They do not have to navigate these challenges alone.

Since 2022, PLDT Home’s Online Alerto has provided Filipino families with a space to exchange experiences, learn about emerging digital threats, and discover practical ways to build safer online habits at home.

The community helps parents learn from real-life situations, share warnings about scams and suspicious online activity, and become more confident in guiding their children.

Parents cannot keep children entirely away from the digital world. The internet is already part of how they learn, communicate, relax, and prepare for the future.

What parents can do is give them the habits they need to recognize danger and respond wisely.

Before they click, reply, share, or trust, remind them to Pause, Check, and Tell.

It can help children explore the online world with greater confidence, caution, and care.

Be part of the conversation and learn more about protecting your family online. Join the Online Alerto Facebook community at facebook.com/groups/onlinealerto.ph.

After months of fierce competition and hard-fought matchups from different legs, the vivo 3x3 Basketball Challenge Year 4 officially crowned its newest champions on July 12 at the SM Mall of Asia Music Hall, where Queenpin Basketball and Montero Hoops emerged victorious in the Women's and Men's divisions, respectively.

Now in its fourth year, the vivo 3x3 Basketball Challenge continues to champion Filipino basketball by providing aspiring and seasoned athletes with a platform to compete, gain exposure, and showcase their skills on a national stage.

Queenpin Basketball delivered a dominant performance in the Women's Division Finals, defeating QP 3x3, 21-10, to secure the championship title.

For their championship victory, Queenpin Basketball received Php 30,000 in cash and a brand-new vivo V70. QP 3x3 finished as first runner-up, taking home Php 20,000 and a vivo V70 FE. For Queenpin veteran Nic Cancio, the biggest victory wasn't just bringing home the championship, it was seeing women's basketball receive the recognition it deserves. "I am very happy, not just for the experience but really for the spotlight that it gives to women's basketball and to women in sport. I am very happy with this kind of opportunity. It's my first time joining vivo 3x3 and I hope it won't be the last," she shared.

As the oldest player on the team, Cancio shared that the tournament challenged her beyond physical endurance. More importantly, it reminded her of the importance of trusting her teammates and believing in one another.

"I'm not gonna lie, it really challenged me. I'm 30 years old, I'm the eldest in my team, but it challenged me not just to think about my physical limits but beyond that. It challenged me to help my teammates shine, to believe in ourselves, and to believe in our team, " Cancio added.

Years of persistence pay off for Montero Hoops

The Men's Division Finals delivered one of the tournament's most thrilling games as Montero Hoops edged Taho Story MFTG Corporation, 20-19, to claim the championship.

Montero Hoops received Php 30,000 in cash and a brand-new vivo V70 for their championship victory. Taho Story MFTG Corporation finished as first runner-up, taking home Php 20,000 and a vivo V70 FE. For Jerick Fabian, lifting the vivo 3x3 Basketball Challenge trophy was the culmination of years of hard work, sacrifice, and returning to the tournament with one goal: to finally become champions.

"Happy and blessed kasi ilang years na namin pinagpaguran ito. Yearly sumasali kami and ngayon nakuha na namin, so napakasaya. Lalo na yung exposure dito, napakaganda," he said.

Despite entering the tournament as underdogs, Fabian said their belief in one another never wavered. Every practice, every sacrifice, and every game eventually led to their breakthrough moment.

"Yung pagiging underdog namin kasi lahat ng kasali dito malakas. Pinagplanuhan din namin ito, nagp-practice kami, nagsacrifice kami para makuha yung panalo," Fabian added.
