Finding the Perfect Family Car

"Sponsored post."

In many places in the world, having a car is a necessity, not a luxury.

Every family needs a car that fits the lifestyle, suits the needs.

For some, it’s hard to know where to start when choosing a car. It’s so confusing that many people just believe recommendations from friends or buy something that catches their eye with wonderful design or seen at advertisements.

Figure out what you need. There are some practical considerations to keep in mind. There’s a much better way to pick the right car, a practical approach that also allows room for some fun.

Here are some tips on finding the perfect family car:
  • Assess Your Needs
  • Set your budget.
  • Choose the right or what car you want
  • Research
  • Make a decision.

  • Assess Your Needs

Functionality - It's best to think about what car you need — not just now, but in the future, too. How many passengers do you need to carry? If you have a big family, do you need a spacious family car? Do you need room for six passengers, or more? Will you be using children's car seats? Do you need a lot of cargo capacity? For your family, you’ll want enough room for everyone plus ample cargo space.

  • Set your budget

Decide how much you can spend for your family car. How will you finance your family car. First, are you paying cash for purchasing your car ? You'll need to think about financing your purchase or lease. Figure out what car you can afford and how much can you really afford to allocate toward a car payment every month.

  • Choose the right car

Choose the right car or choose what car you want to purchase. Narrow the field and choose the model that best serves your needs for your family.  Use a car finder tool to match your needs and budget.

Safety is a top priority. Test drive is a must. You also should test at least three cars, and review other comparable vehicles in the same class to make sure you haven't overlooked an even better choice and setting the parameters that are important to you. You can also compare vehicles you chose to more easily contrast features and specifications.

  • Research

Research. Research. Research.  Make interviews and talk to friends and family, ask them many questions and most importantly check online.

Before buying for the family car you need, gather as much information as possible, it is really very important to have a proper information about the car you need to purchase, so that you don’t make mistakes.

There are a lot of information online so take advantage of that. One of the best places to visit when trying to purchase a new family car is Cars.Com -  This site provides extensive reviews and essential information about a wide variety of cars, with videos, reviews, photos and lots more.

Ever heard of Pagani Automobili Hypercars?

For hardcore motorheads, hypercars represent the ultimate in automotive technology, a notch above supercars in terms of performance, technology, design, luxury, exclusivity, and rarity. With price tags in the millions of dollars, hypercars exist only in the rarefied world of the rich and famous, and ordinary mortals might never get to see one in their lifetime, except on a movie screen—or in a scale model box.

Some hypercars offered in the market are the Bugatti Chiron, the Lamborghini Centenario, and the Porsche 918. Exclusively creating only hypercars, Pagani is a marque that many Filipino motorists may not be familiar with. Founded in 1992 by Argentinian Horacio Pagani, the company is based in the Motor Valley, just outside of Modena, Italy, and is manned by just 130 employees.

The Pagani Zonda was first introduced at the 1999 Geneva Motor Show. Although it does not share the names of its customers, it is well-known that Lewis Hamilton owns a purple 2012 Pagani Zonda.

The Pagani Huayra, which was featured in the 2013 Transformers 4 movie, retails for US$2.5-million. It has a top speed of 378kph, and 0-100kph acceleration time is 3.2-seconds. Only about 40 units are built each year.

Pagani is most distinctive feature is the 4-tube exhaust—the Quattro Scarichi, in Italian—coming together in a circle.

There are currently no Pagani hypercars in the Philippines, but that may change very soon!

CARMUDI PH inks partnership with RAPIDE

In its bid to protect clients from buying defective vehicles, Carmudi Philippines—the leading online vehicle platform around the world—has recently forged partnership with Rapide Auto Service Experts, one of the biggest names in auto repair services in the country.

Last February 2, Carmudi Philippines Managing Director Abhishek Mohan has inked the partnership with Rapide Auto Service Experts General Manager Byron Lat to offer automotive inspections and certification for vehicles bought and sold on their online platform.

Under the memorandum of agreement signed by both parties, the buyers and sellers will have the option to have their vehicles inspected by Rapide professionals so that Carmudi could issue a certification describing the actual state of the vehicle. This system would reduce—to a great extent—the gap in information between seller and buyer.

Both parties were elated with the newly formed partnership, saying that this would bring the level of professionalism of online vehicle buying and selling into a whole new level.

For his part, Mohan said that getting a formidable partner like Rapide to screen the vehicles of clients would definitely create a new spectrum in providing the much needed information to its buyers.

"We are very pleased to announce our partnership with Rapide to provide certification services for used vehicles listed on our online platform. This is in line with our mission to provide the safest environment online, for buying and selling in the automotive space. We see certification as a crucial step towards bridging the information and trust gap between buyers and sellers that use online automotive classifieds to transact business," he said.

He expressed his full confidence to their freshly declared partner in their project, saying that “Rapide is unparalleled in its reach and is synonymous with trustworthiness and thus, a perfect fit with the values of trust and transparency that Carmudi stands for.”

“We are confident that this partnership, in the face of scams that exist elsewhere on the Internet, will redefine the online classifieds space and make it far more trustworthy,” Mohan added.

Meanwhile, Lat echoed Mohan’s sentiments, saying that the program would ensure clarity on the status of the vehicles. “The program would bring honesty and trust to all parties concerned with every transaction in Carmudi, especially with the system that our companies have devised.”

"The vehicle sellers and the buying public will definitely benefit from this partnership between Rapide and Carmudi as it brings out transparency and trust in every transaction that they make," said Lat.

Bumper to Bumper XI holds successful car show event at SM MOA Concert Grounds

(Manila, Philippines) — Bumper to Bumper, the longest-running car show and automotive lifestyle event, happened on December 5 and 6 at the SM Mall of Asia Concert Grounds. Now on its 11th year, the multi-event happening featured the biggest production setup in any car show in Asia.

"Filipinos love car shows because we can relate to the cars we see. It is always a delight for us to see so many nice cars in one place. You can always see the excitement in people's eyes when they are in a car show and you also know deep inside that they feel inspired—that one day, they will also have these upgrades or these kind of rides in their garage," mused Jonathan Chio, CEO of Ladder Events Production.

Since 2005, Bumper to Bumper (B2B) has been bringing the car show not only to Manila but to 10 key cities, including Baguio, Batangas, Cebu, Davao, General Santos, Iloilo, Laguna, La Union, Pampanga, and Pangasinan. It is the only local car show known to do so, in its pursuit to bring the best of the best automotive mods across the Philippines.

Chio furthered, "Bumper to Bumper Car Show is like a theme park of sorts, a theme park for car enthusiasts. We have a wide array of vehicles on display, we have full blown entertainment to fill in your time, and we have unique activities all the time during the event."

The event usually attracts a crowd of 70,000 car enthusiasts and spectators. This year promised to be bigger and better. Activities included a two-division (Pro and Street category) car show competition, off-road vehicle display competition, engine roar competition, drive-in movie, dance showdown, concert, and Sneaker Fever Manila for those who love kicks.

"There are so many things B2B has done to our market. A lot of shops that does not have big budgets for bigger shows were known to have started in our car shows. We have given work opportunities to our car show models. Our event has served as a playground for aspiring photographers and bloggers. But more importantly, a lot of long lasting-friendships were born in our events," said Chio.

Exciting events to look forward to in 2016 include the B2B Car Show Sinulog in January; "Hot Import Nights V Manila” to be held at Metro Tent, Metrowalk on April 23 and 24; “Hot Import Nights Davao” to be held at The Peak in Davao City; and the first-ever Race Wars Unlimited Philippines.

Bumper to Bumper XI was presented by B2BCarshow.com, Total Excellium, PenserQ Multimedia Company, Repsol Motor Oils, No Fear Apparel, Task Us, SM Mall of Asia, and Chevrolet Philippines, among others.

Training at Porsche for underprivileged young people in Asia

Prospects for young Filipinos in the growth regions

Since 2008 the Porsche Training and Recruitment Center Asia (PTRCA) in Manila has been offering Filipinos from underprivileged backgrounds career opportunities in the car industry.

The brands Audi and Volkswagen now become new cooperation partners in this initiative. In future the companies are planning together recruiting junior technical staff from PTRCA, with job opportunities mainly in the Middle East region.

The development of the PTRCA to PTRCA 2.0 with the new cooperation partners means that much more young Filipinos will be accepted in the training programme. Instead of the current 32 trainees per year, in 2016 there will be 120 and in 2017 even 145.

In the past six years, in cooperation with the Don Bosco Technical Institute (DBTI) and the local importer and dealer PGA Cars Inc. Porsche has already trained more than 250 young adults as motor vehicle service mechatronic technicians.

They cover the sports car manufacturer's growing demand for qualified specialists, especially in the Porsche centres in the Middle East and Asia Pacific growth markets. “Good English language skills and the good work ethic the people of the Philippines are known for are beneficial here”, explains Michael Drolshagen, Head of After Sales at Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, the reason for setting up the PTRCA in Manila. Training there was and remains first and foremost a recruitment programme. “But of course for us it means also practising social responsibility. Because a qualification from the PTRCA not only gives these young adults access to the international labour market, it also gives them a real opportunity to noticeably improve their own living conditions and to strengthen their family environment.”
Jayson Supan's story is an example of this. In 2008 he was one of the first graduates of the PTRCA. In February 2009 he started working as a motor vehicle service mechatronics technician at the Porsche Centre Al Nabooda Automobiles LLC in Dubai. The career of Jayson Supan has continuously advanced to the present day. He is currently making the transition from a system technician to a diagnosis specialist. This means that he is once again expanding his area of responsibility and his salary. Even his present salary is several times higher than the average wage in the Philippines. This puts him in a position to build his own house in the Philippines and to pay for his brother's schooling in his distant home country. In addition, he is helping his parents to set up a small rental company for motorbikes and vans in the Philippines.

The success of the training programme can also be seen in the extremely low fluctuation rate of less than three per cent – in regions where 20 per cent is usual. Robert Coyiuto Jr., businessman and owner of PGA Cars Inc. in Manila: “I am glad that we have – along with Don Bosco – established the success of the program from the initial idea from Porsche AG and us. Having reached our six year mark last December, we are confident of the skills of the graduates and long term potential of the advanced training curriculum. The PTRCA not only provides a highly skilled and proficient labor force for the global Porsche and Volkswagen Group network but also provides the underprivileged yet highly deserving Filipino youth the opportunity to become breadwinners for their families. This also underlines the fact that as a successful company we put a strong priority on our corporate social responsibility. This is my commitment.”

The 250 graduates of the PTRCA to date are distributed over eleven countries. The focus is on the Middle East where skilled technicians are highly required. There the extremely well trained motor vehicle service mechatronics technicians ensure the high service quality expected by customers in the Porsche centres.

Starting this year, PTRCA extends its scope by including Audi and Volkswagen for the Middle East region. Benoit Tiers, Group Managing Director of AVME (Audi Volkswagen Middle East) comments this choice:
“The programme has proven its value and we can build on it quickly and easily. It demonstrates the strengths of our Group by using synergies and know-how across the Volkswagen Group brands. We will be closely involved in the PTRCA 2.0 in the next years as we plan to participate in the development of the curriculum, but also to look at further training for teachers and eventually the equipment. The expansion of the PTRCA programme to include a body technician apprenticeship and from 2017 service advisor training programmes lends additional dynamism. This noticeably further increases the benefits for all Volkswagen Group brands and the dealer network.”
The Order Salesians Don Boscos play a major role in the overall structure of the PTRCA. With its Don Bosco Technical Institute the society has outstanding educational expertise and excellent technical know-how. In addition, the Salesians Don Boscos are the ideal partner for working with underprivileged young people. With their long-standing presence they enjoy a high level of acceptance, especially in the poor districts of the Philippines.

“The Salesians Don Boscos are extremely well geared to our needs. And the fact that they are represented in 132 countries means that we can multiply the training programme at any time, too”, says Dr Stefan Lutz, Director After Sales Market Qualification and Support at Porsche. His team has been responsible for the operational support of PTRCA right from the start. Among other tasks the team is concerned with the training content of the 24-month apprenticeship.
“Young people have a right to education, training and work”, says Christian Osterhaus, Managing Director of the German NGO Don Bosco Mondo. “Vocational training ‘Made in Germany’ is highly regarded around the world. And it is not only young people in emerging and developing countries who benefit – society as a whole and the companies involved benefit just as much. I am very pleased that a premium company like Porsche is also giving underprivileged young people abroad a chance. Together we are able to offer young people from extremely difficult social backgrounds prospects for finding a good job through vocational training and therefore the chance for a life in dignity. Here in Manila we are experiencing exemplary implementation.”
The development of the PTRCA to PTRCA 2.0 with the new cooperation partners Audi Volkswagen Middle East means that in future even more space is needed. So it's good that the Don Bosco Technical Institute is currently building a new 6,000 square metre training centre in Manila. On an area of about 1,500 square metres it will house seminar rooms and training workshops for the PTRCA 2.0 for the brands Porsche, Audi and Volkswagen.

With the appropriate equipment the brands also ensure that the young people are instructed in accordance with state-of-the-art technology. In addition, thanks to future cooperation agreed with the German Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry, after their final examination they will receive a certificate that can be even better compared with the European qualifications framework.

Top most in demand car features that buyers want

Technology plays an important role in society today. It spurs up the growth of the business and creates new opportunities.

Carmakers are investing billions of dollars to add new technologies that, it turns out, are not being utilized by many of the owners of those vehicles. In fact, the survey finds that at least 20-percent of new-vehicle owners have never used 16 of the 33 technology features measured.

Carmudi has analyzed data based on hundreds and thousands of global listings uploaded to the company’s car classifieds website to determine the most in-demand features worldwide.

The Philippines is the only country where tinted windows made the list of in-demand car features. Twenty-seven percent cars sold on its site have tinted windows and forty-five percent of cars in the site are equipped with advanced entertainment systems, followed by Indonesia at 36-percent and Vietnam at 34-percent.

One car feature that varied in terms of popularity worldwide was the alarm system. Indonesia posted the highest number with 57-percent users, followed by 48-percent in the Philippines. In Bangladesh and Pakistan, only 7-percent of vehicles sold on the site featured an alarm system.

Subir Lohani, managing director of Carmudi Philippines, said: “Technology has transformed the driving experience of every motorists. Motorists nowadays are looking for vehicles that are smarter and innovative.”

“The growth is due to the demand of needs of car buyers who are looking for cars that will change how they drive ,” adds Lohani.
