Sony Introduces 2023 BRAVIA XR TV Lineup

Four new models have been announced to round out Sony’s highly anticipated lineup, with new features including XR Clear Image and Acoustic Center Sync, for a fully immersive at-home theatre experience

Sony Electronics Inc. announced its 2023 BRAVIA XR™ TV Lineup, with Cognitive Processor XR™, for the ultimate home entertainment experience. There are four new models in the BRAVIA XR line: X95L Mini LED, X90L Full Array LED, and A80L OLED. All models have the updated Cognitive Processor XR and are equipped with features that provide an immersive experience for watching movies, streaming apps, gaming, and more.

Key BRAVIA XR lineup features

For an incredibly lifelike experience, the Cognitive Processor XR replicates content the way people see and hear. It enables better backlight control for increased local dimming zones, increased brightness, and declared blooming. Plus, its 2023 iteration enters a new chapter in its development with advanced XR Clear Image, found in select models, that further reduces noise and blur in motion, creating scenes that burst with life.

All models also offer Acoustic Center Sync. When paired with Sony Home Audio products, such as the HT-A9 Home Theatre System or the HT-A7000, HT-A5000, and HT-A3000 soundbars, viewers can expect a truly exceptional at-home movie viewing experience.  This is because the Acoustic Center Sync synchronizes the TV’s audio system with select Sony soundbars and AV receivers to reinforce the center speaker channel for clearer, fuller dialogue and more immersive sound. Sony’s soundbars offer 360 Spatial Sound Mapping so it also generates phantom speakers and sound field optimization.

Other new audio features include the Acoustic Multi-Audio+^TM, found in the X95L model, which uses frame tweeters to elevate the sound to match the image on screen. Meanwhile, the A80L models feature Acoustic Surface Audio+^TM with actuators that vibrate to produce sound from the entire screen, perfectly matching what’s playing on screen.

For gamers, the 2023 BRAVIA XR lineup is also perfect in taking their PlayStation® 5 gaming to the next level. Exclusive features such as the Auto HDR Tone Mapping and Auto Genre Picture Mode generate optimized picture quality while gaming and streaming. There is also an easy-to-use and quick-access Game Menu for tailoring game settings like turning on or off VRR or Motion Blur Reduction and increasing the brightness in dark areas to easily spot objects and opponents with the Black Equalizer.

Whether gaming or simply watching, the new models’ XR Backlight Master Drive uses a Sony-developed local dimming algorithm to control thousands of tiny, ultra-dense Mini LEDs with absolute precision and independence, delivering extraordinary brightness, impressive dynamic range, deep blacks, and beautifully natural colors.

Additionally, Sony is keeping its commitment to decreasing plastic usage through its Road to Zero initiative. To reduce environmental impact, Sony is working on multiple aspects of the product life cycle, such as reduction of virgin plastic use, improvement of transportation efficiency, and reviewing energy consumption during use. At present, Sony is reducing overall plastic usage by approximately 60% and is cutting emissions by approximately 15% by using smaller and lighter packaging during transportation. The new Eco Dashboard included on all 2023 models also makes it easier for users to customize energy-saving preferences and settings.

Purchasing the 2023 BRAVIA XR TVs, even non-BRAVIA XR ones, also comes complete with the BRAVIA CORE app. It is a pre-loaded movie service that comes with up to 10 movie credits to watch the latest releases and popular classics and additional movies with up to 12 months of unlimited streaming.

With BRAVIA XR technology, Pure Stream™, and IMAX® Enhanced, content is delivered with stunning visuals and expressive sound quality. Featuring BRAVIA CORE Calibrated Mode, movies will automatically adjust to the optimal picture settings including IMAX® Enhanced mode to create a truly exceptional at-home movie viewing experience. Sony is redefining the standard zoom category of lenses with the introduction of the FE 20-70mm F4 G, known as the SEL2070G that boasts an ultra-wide 20-70mm zoom range in a remarkably compact, lightweight full-frame lens, with a constant F4 aperture throughout the zoom range.

According to professional photographer and Sony Philippines Product Expert Nicco Valenzuela, the FE 20-70mm F4 G is comparably lighter and more compact than most standard zoom lenses with a constant aperture. As a photographer himself, this lens will be of significant help when packing camera equipment for shoots. There are also instances when photographers do not want to carry a separate ultra-wide angle lens with them, so the capability of the FE 20-70mm F4 G to go all the way to 20mm wide is really handy and offers significant versatility.

The new lens boasts unique G Lens image quality that produces a state-of-the-art optical design that simultaneously corrects chromatic and spherical aberration for extremely high optical performance across the whole zoom range. Optimized coatings add high flare and ghost resistance to this superior optical design, for extraordinary contrast and clarity.​ Furthermore, beautiful bokeh is achieved with full-frame image sensors and is further enhanced by a 9-blade circular aperture and optimally tuned spherical aberration.

“The implications of this in landscape and nature photography is that it focuses closer. By closer, I mean this can focus at 0.25 meters close, and this is significant because most standard zoom lenses can focus at around 0.32 to 0.38 at most. This can focus on details much closer, such as flowers and medium-sized insects which counts as near-macro capabilities. At the same time, focusing closer can help landscape photographers do focus-stacked wide images of vistas that create the most detailed output possible. Even more conveniently, this close focusing capability can be used in tandem with the new Sony α7R V’s automated focus bracketing mode that greatly simplifies the focus stacking workflow,” said Valenzuela.

The lens’s focus group is driven by two of Sony’s latest XD Linear Motors, providing high thrust for a fast, quiet, low-vibration focus drive. Thrust efficiency has been significantly improved over previous models[i], resulting in up to a 60% increase in AF speed[ii].

Video performance designed for refined imagery

The FE 20-70mm F4 G reduces focus breathing as well as focus and axial shift when zooming to ensure that the highest quality images are captured.

AlphaTM series cameras’ Active Mode[iii] image stabilization is highly effective at the ultra-wide 20 mm end of the FE 20-70mm F4 G zoom range, providing excellent image stabilization performance, whilst maintaining a wide angle of view. Sony recently announced two new music players, the NW-ZX707, and the NW-A306 to the Walkman^® series family. Both players are designed for listeners to enjoy music the way the artist intended with high-quality sound with a sleek design.

Built with updated components of high-end models, the NW-ZX707 offers astonishing sound quality. With enhanced battery life, a balanced connection, a larger 5" display, and Wi-Fi compatibility for easy downloading and streaming functions, it is also portable and stylish for the most demanding music lover.

Inheriting the philosophy of the Signature Walkman^®, the NW-ZX707 has upgraded fine-tuned capacitors and an FTCAP3 (High polymer capacitor), and a large solid high polymer capacitor that offers large capacitance and low resistance. While an OFC milled block covering the digital block, allows the NW-ZX707 to bring listeners sound that appears to rise-up from silence. Additionally, a large 8mm coil for balanced output creates an improved sound resolution across all frequencies. All four kinds of components stated here are also used in the latest Signature Walkman^® model.
